Traditionally, we view aging as an inevitable consequence that happens to our bodies as we get older. We think that as we gain more years of life, it is a given that we begin to slow down, become less agile, lose our memories, and gain more chronic diseases.
Longevity researchers are beginning to reframe and reclassify aging as a disease, not a consequence. This is a very crucial distinction because according to the Functional Medicine model, diseases can be prevented, treated, and cured.
When we start to look at aging as a disease, we can start to ask what the cause of aging is. And, guess what? We actually have some answers beyond just getting old. There are a lot of different functions within your body that contribute to aging.
In this video, I discuss all the steps to creating a healthier life for optimal aging.

I hardly eat sugar. I’m 45 and was asked if I was 20 over the weekend. I looked much older when I was younger. I started working out 15-20 minutes 5x’s a week and overcame my addiction to sugar. When I was 30 I looked 45. I also removed toxic people from my life. I follow my happiness.

I need to give up sugar again. I did a few months ago, lost 10lbs in a week and my friend from church said my skin was glowing and that I looked 10 years younger. Weird compliment for one guy to give to another guy, but the change your body can make when sugar is removed is crazy fast.

My mom is 102 1/2 and is all there mentally, physically and she can walk for hours at the mall, climb 35 stairs, sings, dances, goes out to eat, doesn't use anything for walking assistance, it's amazing no one believes it. She does everything, that a 70 year old maybe more. I'm blessed, she does everything with me and goes everywhere with me. Loves to go out and about. Since, I can remember she always said, "You're as young as you feel", she never talks about her age, because she believes it's just a number.

I lost my momma when she was 56 unexpectedly she had arthritic psoriasis and was on a biologic Stelara which I believe contributed to her death along with the doc who wasn’t treating her properly she went to New York with my dad came back with a cold it was almost identical to Covid but was in Jan 2014 . I agree. If you aren't careful, people will try to talk you into being old. For instance I enjoy a 12 hour drive South at 84. What I get all the time is, "aren't you too old to be driving that far"???You cannot let people tell you what you can do at what age. Your Mom is correct. I admire her.

The saddest thing is that in this country we actually focus on separating ourselves and isolating ourselves. When we get on elevators we are supposed to ignore each other and look forward. When we come to a stop at a stop light? We are supposed to stay looking forward because to actually look at someone is a social fall part and extremely dangerous. As we walk down the street we are not to look at each other. I now live in a state where people are weary of 3ofthosewhowerenotbornhere. We are actually called foreigners. Americans who come to this state who were not born here are called farners, How sad.

@@cavsomecadence6117 I sure don’t fit in to the non social category. I start conversations with people even on a short elevator ride. And on escalators or waiting in line at a store. She was sharp as a tack, always telling jokes and looked 80yo tops. I knew she was 106 because I had seen her ID. She was born a few months before the Titanic sank. It wasn't until she was 102 that she started using a walker for balance. I've searched Google every now and then for an obituary for her since I've left but I haven't seen one. I’ve worked as a RN for 22 years in major teaching hospitals Aus. I can assure you, that diet your father was on, is the same for patients everywhere. It all comes down to costs. That’s it. Sugar/ carbs/ boxes fruit juices etc are cheap cheap cheap- and that is all the hospital cares about in terms of food. I tried to change things for years- it never worked. It all comes down to money. My advice is; if you have a relative in hospital- take them home cooked nutritious foods- because all they will be served in hospital is junk food dressed up as breakfast, lunch and dinner. All junk.

Almost all carbs my sugar never seen under 200 most days it was 300+ they’d leave me like that for hours blaming it on the “infection “ but yet when I got to er my sugar was 130 I kept my sugar under 150 . I wanted to treat my BS myself but they said I couldn’t I was so happy to get home and fix my sugar it was back down within 24 hours maybe it was the IV antibiotics idk they give it with dextrose but some nurses said no it shouldn’t raise my sugar . I didn’t eat the carbs most days I just ate the little blob of eggs next to the pancakes or French toast !!

    Great information!
I changed my diet a few years ago, lost 50 lbs, feel and look younger and have more energy than I did 20 years ago!
I use a lot of herbs, teas, and eat a big salad with lots of yummy vegetables, nuts, etc, eat clean organic meat and foods. I try to stay away from toxic chemicals, drink filtered water, and use good healthy oils - like organic coconut, extra virgin olive oil and avocados. Amazing how satisfied I am everyday. I dont think about eating all the time. I do intermittent fasting, and enjoy the benefits of that. I like to jump on a mini trampoline and use weights, strength train and swim. I prayed for healing many times through the years, but when i prayed, " Lord, if there is something I can do naturally, please show me." The NEXT DAY my daughter in-law's mom gave me a tape (years ago) called "Dead Doctor's Dont Lie." I listened, followed it and it was what put me on a new way to live with God's wonderful phytonutrients. He had it planned out all along!

I am in clinical medicine as a Chaplain, and I know the problems with tradition medicine especially as it relates to aging and how people over a certain age, weight or race are treated in hospitals. The one area that I want to really thank you for including in this video has to do with your spiritual health and relationships. So many people underestimate how important a role God and relationships play in their health. I am currently dealing with breast health, no cancer, as well as some microbiome issues. Dr. Hyman, thank you for all your efforts to bring us back to good health. This is ALL very involved, especially going through all the testing, but I agree is optimal. However, I don't think most people have the money for all these tests and supplements. The best, and theoretically most effective thing, would be to ban the thousands of toxic chemicals in our environment, take all the additives out of our food supply, and retrain all the allopathic doctors who practice prescription writing instead of healing. In other words, go back in time when these health destroyers (big food corporations, etc.) didn't exist. That would be incredibly healing for all life on this planet. Then we wouldn't have to worry under what conditions the strawberries were grown in, what chemicals they sprayed on the lettuce, and if the salmon was farm raised or not. So, the REAL problem is societal, and the greed and the quest for the Almighty dollar has contaminated EVERYTHING and is destroying humanity.

Despite a very healthy/improved diet, I looked into being evaluated for ongoing inflammation/toxicity by a doctor who does this (hard to find in my area to begin with) and could not proceed, though I needed to do so, because insurance would not cover the thousands of dollars of evaluation/testing/detox work of this particular kind that's necessary. People needlessly suffer and die for ridiculous reasons like this because of the allopathic model's predominance in our very broken healthcare system. Only the conscientious/informed rich who can independently afford this kind of heathcare apart from insurance restrictions have a chance, it seems. What a pity.

Ate vegetables. Had a huge beer gut. Never exercised. My uncle was super healthy, never smoke or drank, died of cancer at 40. My mom worked in a factory, didn't have a healthy diet, died of lou gehrig's at age of 45.

All of what Dr. Hymen explains arrives naturally once you stop eating crap and exercising . Started living off grid with my horse, during the pandemic, no wifi . Dr. Hymen, thank you, you really are something. Awareness of all that went in, listening to this podcast, gives me a language to understand what all went down!
a better person stepped into my place. Life became enjoyable when I started listening to my body. (and podcasts like this.)
Our brains are programed for survival. We become null to pain. Horses are our mirrors, reflecting who me are. They say a horse will never show pain, until it is too late.

Thank you for stating the truth about the limitations of meds. Addressing the root of health issues is key to restoring and maintaining health. I am fortunate to know older doctors who believe meds are to be used as a short term intervention, not a permanent solution to managing healthcare. The most important things we can do is encourage others to be responsible for themselves, and be their own healthcare advocate.

One clinic is rural with a lot of farming and pesticides (unbelievable number of breast ovarian and uterine cancer and some colon) the other town about 20 minutes away is mostly homeless people who walk everywhere, no farming. besides the consequences of drug abuse very little cancer. I wish I had time to do a study. And to note, I do the same cancer screening in both places.

I am so very thankful for this man of integrity and wisdom, I was born with a congenital scoliosis, I was born addicted to heroin and alcohol. I’ve had a lot of trauma in my life, I was almost being certified as a Functional doctor when Covid got a hold of me, even though I don’t believe in it but when I went to the hospital, they were give me insulin shots in my stomach for two whole months and steroids and everything. The only thing I know that I had was a sinus infection that I was there a total of two months then I had to go to rehab for speech lessons, I couldn’t walk I couldn’t think and I ended up weighing 200 pounds more than I did. I was a perfect way I was very active and looked young. They poison me in the hospital that was January 1, 2018. I had a sinus infection in December 2017. I know what happened my in-home care provider bought me Mucinex that had the cough medicine that I’m not supposed to take with my other medication because I couldn’t stop my breathing, I didn’t have coronavirus or SARS or anything but stopped. My breathing was the inner reaction of the medicines, I didn’t know my in-home care provider didn’t know what she was doing in the hospital just ran with it and use me as a guinea pig I’m still not back to, the house I had before working hard every day. My problem is I don’t have one human in my life and I haven’t had since I got sick. I have a daughter that lives 10 minutes from here. That makes very good money that she doesn’t visit me won’t pick my medicine up. Will help me with anything I live on the second floor. I’m still on oxygen and use a walker, I’ll be 69 years old July 10 of this year. I keep praying to God to send me somebody to help me I don’t know how much longer I can take this loneliness and I feel like I’m dying of a broken heart and I know that’s possible I’ve been rejected from all these people that I helped when I had money Had a nice home and I was in good shape once I got sick everybody just disappeared. I didn’t even know they didn’t care about me. My therapist said that their covert narcissist or something like that and they keep gaslighting me to make me think I’m crazy I think they’re trying to get rid of me so they can get all my money, but it’s not like I have a lot. I hate being in the system I wanted to start my own UA-cam channel I’m functional medicine or something. Oh I could tell you a lot of things that have been but I don’t want to do that I’m not looking for somebody to feel sorry for me. I just need some help Dad‘s helping me and I know God is not coming down here in human form to help me. My parents died when I was in my early 20s I didn’t really know my father but I have hardly any relatives living set for my adult siblings, and my adult children, and none of them are talking to me, it’s my fault for something I don’t know they’re all doing really well and making good money but you know how it goes. It’s always mothers fault. Well I am thankful for this doctor just to be able to listen to him and I watch all of his whole videos because it gives me hope that there is help. I just don’t know anybody that will help me. I live on the second floor I have no vehicle and I have no help from humans, the Lord is keeping me alive when I have someone call the CASE MANAGER that takes me to my doctors appointments but he wants me on 15 different medication‘s that are made in China and I can’t take them. I break out in hives and I can’t breathe. Oh yeah, the pharmaceutical companies are getting our prescription drugs from China and they’re full of toxins but I don’t want to take them anyway.

I made everything from scratch. He started talking easily no problem. The doctors wanted to put back on wheat after a year off and he instantly reacted. He became very autistic, aloof and frightful. However the one thing I noticed was his pupil's dilated until eyes looked black. I was terrified he wouldn't come back but he did after 4 days. As he was 5 and abit. He could explain what happened very well. So he knows he can't eat certain things. I could go on and on. I had support from our once great NHS so, I had to take on board that I had to research and do something about it myself

Thank you very much Doctor Hyman. I believe you're my guru soul mate. Most of you're teachings I have naturally practiced. I am not a medical doctor, but have been a health fanatic naturally. People never believe my age, they have always told me that lied about my age. Now that I have you life, let's take it to the next level with your guidance. The only problem i have had persistently is prostate issues. This did not show up until I got to age 70. It's been a big challenge, & a great learning experience. I try to apply all variables that work, including fasting, diet, & exercise. My greatest delima right now is dealing with low medically induced low testosterone. As you already know dealing with prostate cancer, my very high level testosterone was zapped, inorder to halt the growth of prostate cancer, according to their explanations, prostate cancer grow on testosterone. Unfortunately. I really prostested for a long time, before i let them zero out my testosterone level to minus 10. (-10). Cancer proliferation had been halted, & steadily monitored. Sadly, my six pack, which I had worked hard for all my life is gone. Oh boy, they got me pregnant now😂. It's good to have you, so we can get rid of this swelling stomach. I never envisioned myself on a big stomach. I never like it. I have also lost my muscles. My girls use to call me Hymen, or Hercules. I have had several nick names based on my good looks. My profile picture on facebook is an evidence. Currently, I still exercise, do periodic fasting. I just did, 3 days fast with only water intake. In the past I did 40 days water fast, thinking that it will get rid of the prostate cancer completely. But it did not. Then later, about one year ago I had prostate surgery. (TURP). This procedure slowed me down, for almost 7 months, I couldn't walk. But, now, I have healed. Pain specialist here in Odessa helped me out. So, am back to the gym now. I go two or three times a week. I feel better, & looking upwards. The other day, I fell down chasing the tennis ball, at the tennis court. My oncologist blamed everything on the zytiga & prednisone medications that i have been on for about 3 years. I currently have some therapist working with me. Our goal is to return me back to the tennis court shortly. Somehow, for some reasons, my right leg is weak, that's why I lost balance chasing the tennis ball and thus fell. In addition with all my great workouts at the gym, we have added the kettle bell workout to help strengthen the glutus muscles & other exercises to strengthen my right leg, that way i can run again, & hit the tennis ball without my right leg giving in on me. My running, has been slowed down. Little jogging, I will be huffing & puffing, with a great discomfort on my chest cavity allover until i stop & catch my breath for a minute... I am looking forward to having you be my doctor. I hope you're good with Medicare, Humana. I have been meditating for a long time since 1983, from transcendental Meditation to breath focus, Desciples Affirmation, Prayer of Saint Francis, etc. My phone number is 770-480-3860. Send me a text, so we will figure out how we can work together. Then be able to share my progress with the world. Thanks a lot.

I find it ironic that a lot of the ads are from Dr. Gundry who claims to be the world’s best heart surgeon and now diet guru. He has also done a lot of alternative types of healing for himself, and
others. He must spend a lot of money on ads because no matter where I go on the Internet his face pops up. I am pretty sure that Dr. Hyman would not agree with many of the things that Gundry preaches.

They are all so focused on food. And it is true that Americans put food last. But my mom did everything she was supposed to do and she got dementia. I wonder if it's not the calcium they pushed on us for decades and in everything. BUT one thing that these doctors miss when comparing us to the old Italians is not ONLY about food. It's the lifestyle. I remember visiting my grandparents in Italy and I can honestly say the only times I ever saw them sit down was for meals, and if a visitor stopped by. They moved ALL DAY LONG. They were physical all day long. An hour in a gym is not the same. They were outdoors in the sun. They didn't own a couch for the longest time, and then even when they did, they didn't use it. The grandchildren did. ALSO, do NOT believe that they didn't eat cured meats, pasta and breads (daily). And even a piece of homemade cake for "merenda". Also, for now, Italy won't allow Monsanto in. So their seeds are all heirloom. In fact, it is illegal to bring any seeds into their country. In my opinion these guys are all focusing on only one thing. Oh, and one more thing, don't believe all the olive oil you find in stores is truly olive oil. I've seen real olive oil. That's not what we have in the stores, and we should all be having it unfiltered.

But of course you are right . Funny how Germans try to mimic Italians. If we eat what they eat ... Sure , Hans , if you wash out all that pig carcass remains. .. Sorry , you're still German . Tough luck

‼️I dealt with digestion/acid reflux issues almost every day. I would have to take omniprazole daily just to cope. I knew the benefits of a plant-based diet for a while, but after watching a few of your vidoes, I was convinced.
As you mentioned for you, I too was an athlete. Muscle memory has always been good to me so aestheticically my physique just looked like I'm a solid athletic football player. At 6'2 305 lbs, few people would think I were more than 230. But I know I wasn't my healthiest inside. That extra gut and heavy breathing became motivation to change.
I'm a week into my vegan diet and I haven't had to take omniprazole once. Changing the approach to food has greatly assisted. Thanks for the educational tools you provide. 💪🏾

Thank you confirming what some of us suspected all along. We've wondered why modern medicine refused to examine fixing the problem instead of treating the symptoms. My family overall is healthy because we eat mostly healthy foods, spices/herbs, get exercise, and take particular supplements.
How fast are other doctors taking on this mindset and how do we get ours to join in?
Any suggestions for those with chronic and severe migraines?

    • @volume2517
      @volume2517 10 місяців тому +7

For migraines, buy ginger root at the supermarket. Cut off a small piece of an end and lightly rub the juicier side of the piece on your forehead or anywhere else you feel pain. It works within seconds. Your migraine will be completely gone in under 5 minutes. I believe that incorporating real ginger (root, tea or supplement) into your diet daily will help long-term but direct contact with the skin covering the painful area brings the fastest relief. You can cut it up and freeze pieces in Ziploc bags- they're fresh frozen for 3+ months. Don't take them out of the freezer unless you need them right away because they will get soggy after a couple of days. Try to save pieces separately, in smallest snack-size Ziploc bags or even the tiny Ziploc bags made for daily vitamins/medicine doses for travel. You'll be amazed how quickly it works for your migraines. I can attest. It's a little miracle!
