Missing that childhood is one aspect. But, the simplicity and effectiveness of those stories is what we miss the most. Look at the comedies of 2000s and compare them with recent comedic disasters. Simplicity of dialogues and storytelling is what makes 99% of those earlier films so memorable. Edit: Wow, i didn't know so many people agreed with my perspective. Thanks for the likes guys!! 🫶🏾
There is merit to the argument that the stories seemed less like the hollow corporate projects of today. A Welcome vs. Welcome To The Jungle is in such sharp contrast simply from a production POV
@@slayer81 I did say "missing the childhood is ONE aspect." Main hoon na isn't attached to my kindergarten time. It was a fun film and that's how I remember it. Bollywood may have degraded in quality but it has produced some fine gems of cinematic history. Opinion shmopinion 🤷🏾
I'll add John Abraham. A guy who did movies like No smoking, Taxi no 9211 and Madras cafe has now reduced himself to typical Bollywood movies. I wish I could see more of that John
Even films like Attack were huge experimental projects that failed miserably... he has ranges from doing Comedic roles in Garam Masala and Housefull 2 to doing no nonsense spy thrillers like Madras Cafe, Batla House or A Parmanu... I'm excited for his upcoming venture Diplomat btw
Ultimately every actor at the end of the day has to put food on the table for himself / herself and their families. So before your pursuit to experiment ends up burning a hole in the pockets of your producers, it's better to deviate towards what is best liked by the large population of your core audience. If you want to still keep experimenting with your roles, become a co-producer and show the willingness to absorb those financial shocks if in worst case your project flops. That's the standard mentality
Ranbir kapoor should get some credits for portraying in films like wake up sid, tamasha, rocket singh, rockstars, jagga jasoos etc..Took so many risks in the peak of his career and each of these films were masterpiece..
Why aren't we talking about Hritik's role in Lakshya. It was such a heartwarming story of a young boy turning Into a mature adult while showing us the life of an soldier. Hritik plays all of this with such an conviction. Laskhya has inspired many to opt for Army as an career.
In an interview both Farhan and SEL talked about how the film lived longer than it's box office performance and how everyone got stuck on its fate as flop when in fact over the years it's recognised as some of the best work they've ever done.
Even Akshay Kumar completemented Hrithik on public saying k " main aapse senior hoon lekin Maine aapki movie guzaarish dekhi aur main saaf keh skta hoon k acting k maamle mein aap mere senior ho"😢😢😢 Such kind words from him!!
We can't just blame the star actors tbh. Us audience ACCEPTS mass films more, and auteur films usually don't do well or just flop on box office. The stars and studios have accountability but we, as the audience, also olay a big role imo.
its definitely a mix of both. I would like creators to place their bets on films like 12th Fail more often, a small film marketed really well. So was the case with OMG 2 last year. I think there can be a balance of both, if there is conviction in the storytelling of course
@@TriedRefusedProductions I don't think Bollywood would take risk atleast in next 2-3 years. Maybe because of Politics, media, and most importantly the financial success of mass cinema
Personally for me Guzaarish is Hrithik's best work, these films that are risks bring out the best in the actors and I feel they should be taking more risks as those are the ones that may not work at the box office but will live longer than the commercial performances they've given. Those are the ones that people talk about and will be valued in posterity.
Even Akshay Kumar completemented Hrithik on public saying k " main aapse senior hoon lekin Maine aapki movie guzaarish dekhi aur main saaf keh skta hoon k acting k maamle mein aap mere senior ho"😢😢😢 Such kind words from him!!
So what if Guzaarish is being recognised now? But at that time people were skeptical even to go and watch films with such subjects. The problem is with majority of the Indian audience. They should not be only confined to a certain genre of commercial mass movie, but also should learn to watch, experience and shower love and support on creative films with beautiful and unique subject like Guzaarish. Doing well in the box office is ultimately the goal for any movie. If that doesn't happen, inspite of the film being good in terms of it good subject and storyline; naturally filmmakers and actors becomes dejected in choosing such scripts from next time.
Idk about others, but I would most definitely want an SRK-Kajol film in 2025. Partly because I am missing them but also because I want SRK to act with people his age, not popular young ones like Deepika. And 90's actresses have so much potential, I don't want to see them playing only mother roles. A mature love story with srk and kajol with a good script would be nice where they play their own age.
Anushka Sharma really deserves a special shout out. Pari is so underrated! Her production choices are really bold starring herself or not. And she has delivered praiseworthy performances in Pari and NH10 more than in those commercial blockbusters where she plays the supporting role for a male hero. I think she and Katrina can do a wonderful action film in a whole different world. YRF spy universe is getting lame now. These two ladies can do a better job if they put their minds to it.
Alia Bhatt is one actor I look forward....from playing a character of girl next door in SOTY....She immediately played a role of a traumatized girl in highway and after that Commercial role in Badri series and 2states to doing movies like Udta Punjab , Raazi , Darling ....she is a versatile actress and her upcoming project Jigra where she is going to play an action hero ...not wrong to say She is going to rule Hindi cinema for long time❤😃😘
Bollywood is not scared of taking risks, but people are facing Inflation. In our Childhood, tickets price were Rs.25 and now is is Rs.250. Another factor is the emergence and ease of OTT making the makers nervous whether to release the movie in theatres or OTT.
Pvr Inox and many multiplexs are the reason true pop corn and cool drinks rates creates a fear in audience the reason south industries are still surviving because of the single screens they are affordable national cinema day made huge impact footfalls have increased in multiplex but ticket rates should come down
I think Ranbir made clever decision by doing movies with content driven plot and interesting characters like in Barfi , Sanju and Jagga Jasoos at the initial stage of career. As this cements his reputation of being good actor. Now 10yrs in noone can question his acting or say he is only here due to nepotism. Same goes for Alia. Her switch to Udta Punjab and Highway from snubby SOTY character was amazing.
12th Fail has been the biggest game changer this year. Not just critically acclaimed it has become a huge commercial success so much so its still running in packed houses in many screen in its 12th week even after releasing in OTT. Even movies like OMG 2 and Sam Bahadur did so great at the box office. Hope these gives confidence to both stars and producers to take more risk. Only thing the content has to be great as Sirf ek banda kaafi hai or 12th Fail, then audience will definitely go to theatres.
I think it's a combination of the factors combined. 1. Times were simpler back then which was reflected in movies as well. We weren't constantly stimulated like we are now hence were able to enjoy whatever we could see. Society has seen drastic changes in past 1 decade. 2. There is this human aspect to it that we tend to forget the bad times (unless it's something monumental) and hence same goes for the movies we saw. I remember mocking Imran Khan back in 2009 especially after his movie Kidnap and Luck released but now I look at those movies and feel nostalgic. It has nothing to do with the quality of cinema but my current situation which is kinda stressful compared back then. At the same time, comedies were really good and simple. They weren't trying to make us laugh intentionally contrary to what current movies try to do. 3. Our understanding has really evolved; we are discussing the movies lot more due to social media and hence this scrutiny which was absent back then. 4. We all are Nostalgia merchants: Pretty sure 10 years down the lane we will feel nostalgic about movies today done by Arjun Kapoor remembering songs from Two states and Ishaqzaade. 5. Increasing competition and decentralisation of entertainment: We are exposed to so many movies and TV series that it is difficult to create novelty. Hence risk taking is also becoming difficult because then one has to come up something very intriguing and new to gain same commercial success. One has to tap in into some unchartered territory to get that attention 6. We as audience are hypocritical: We don't award good movies being made rather go with the trend. And this is not something new but was there since past many decades.
What if an actor takes risks, and his or her performance turns out to be a game-changer in cinema history? What if taking that risk costs his or her career and leads to losing everything? These two general suppositions represent the biggest paradoxical dilemma that every actor faces.
For some actors, whenever they try something different it becomes their highest grossing, for example Salman Khan. Bajrangi Bhaijaan & Sultan are his two highest grossers worldwide. While for other actors like SRK, their experiments like Swades, Ra One, Fan fail at Box office.
@@Anonymous-bf5fk true, but there are several parameters including audience, director's vision, marketing, trend in that year, genre of the movie which come into play. Salman Khan's case turn out to be better than SRK's case because of these factors.

Accept or not WE are majorly failing as audience and as a cinephile it aches my heart. Everyone is targeting Hindi films as their personal problems. Yes, Hindi cinema industry is no saint or a fair industry but we should also see and make sure that good films should get their due. And sadly I feel that time has long gone. Everyone is looking for big action theatre experience though smart story telling is left the chat, creativity is drowning, screenplay, editing, cinematography, musical nuances ....khair rehne do!!🤦🏻♀️
Not only that, but Trademarks for movie titles have also been appearing in droves from the 2000s onward. I guess that partly explains why jungle hero movies (usually unofficial Tarzan adaptations) aren’t made in Bollywood anymore.
South centric/appealing films and "mass" have ruined the whole Bollywood scene right now ,both industries have good talent but the "mass" hero worship culture has ruined quality and depth in movies.
Ajay Devgn between 2002-2006 had killer filmography: 2002- Company, The Legend of Bhagat Singh, Deewangee 2003- Qayamat, Gangaajal, Zameen , Bhoot 2004- Yuva, Khakee, Raincoat, Masti 2005- Apaharan, Blackmail, Tango Charlie 2006- Omkara, Golmaal He effectively portrayed all characters across genres...I don't think anyone else among the active actors today has got such a filmography....
His excessive smoking and consumption of tobacco has killed his ability to emote well on screen. Otherwise he was so fluid and clean with his performances. Compare a Golmaal (2006) with Golmaal Again (2017) and you can notice the difference. The comedy in the latter looks far more manufactured rather than spontaneous.
That Salman Khan movie on Aids was Phir Milenge. I could never have imagined now that Salman, Shilpa and Abhishek would come to do a movie like that. We have let them down.
I think a big factor is also the rise of OTT, with many people willing to wait for Movies to come to OTT instead of watching them in theatres. This has maybe motivated many actors to skip movies which might be a success in that space rather than in theatres. But I am still hopeful with movies like 12th fail showcasing that if there’s a movie with a tight storyline, people will come to the theatre to watch and turn it into a commercial success.
The undisputed fact is tastes have changed for big screen with the coming of OTT. Previously all films had tobe presented in theatres as there were no alternatives. Now audiences have made a clear choice to pivot to theatres for the big budget star films or a visually appealing vfx heavy film in fantasy genre. Very few mid budget alternative genre film can find space in theatres now as we can watch them in ott. Screening of these films in theatres do not add to their cinematic experience and can be easily experienced in urban homes who are the primary consumers of such films. All films need not be released in theatres to be considered a success.
Risks were taken because people were less judgemental back then. Compare Akshay Kumar wearing full namavali and surrounded by half naked women who wear the same in bhoolbhulia song but now Deepika wearing gerua bikini made headlines. Nowadays everything is politics how can you take risk?
So true, too tired of big stars only doing high budget commercial films instead of something more meaningful. The mid-budget genre is basically dead and is now exclusive to ott
I still remember the first frame of Laal Kaptan.. obviously the movie had it flaws but still the cinematography, Saif's stoic personality.. waooo. A under appreciated masterpiece..
I am not blaming the film makers and Stars. But here comes the factor that audience now created a mindset that there are two diffrent categories for movies. Where experimented movies falls into the category of OTT watch and Mass films into the THEATRE watch category.
A problem I've seen when it comes to a lot of experimental movies is that they tend to be lesser known films. Whether it's due to lack of marketing, unexpected/unknown castings, etc. They just don't generate enough attention from the public, regardless of their quality. It's not that these films don't get made, it's that viewers have to go out of their way to find such films to watch.
This is something that Vasan Bala spoke about regarding MKDNH, that it becomes the responsibility of the creators to make sure the movie reaches out to the audience at least before its release. So many of the movies dependent on WOM are crowd driven, taking the onus themselves to spread the word
Hey @@TriedRefusedProductions! I would highly recommend you to watch the Interview of Sandeep Reddy Vanga, Karan Johar, Rima Das, Rani Mukerji and others in Galatta Plus, because that interview will make you uncomfortable especially Rani Mukerji's part 😢
@@disneyfox5726unique concept, different genre, cinematography, camera work, color grading, action, visual in every aspect foreign cinema is better than Indian cinema
Animal was an experimental film despite being a commercial film. It wasn’t just an action hero without a personality . Sandeep reddy vanga’s characters have a personality, even though they may be morally corrupt. At least the unpredictable actions of the main character keep you engaged, rather than just a hero who has no other personality other than being strong and loud
I think we should also mention Paheli when it comes to risks taken by Srk. Also RaOne, though it was a commercial movie but to have a vision like that at that point and pioneering the scene for vfx in India itself was a step which should be lauded.
Ramayan 2 is actually a huge risk. Specially after what happened with adipurush.. Also, ranbir percieved image is widely against what people percieve lord ram to be
I would mostly blame the audience for this. In Malayalam & Tamil they're making these experimental or risky subjects because the audience are more accepting of these stories. (I mean there are also some good films which unfortunately flops ) In Bwood the majority are looking for reasons to boycott and of course that's gonna scare a lot of filmmakers, producers & stars.
on top of of every thing said about SRK in this video, I would love to say that SRK also gave his all for the amazing film called RAONE, I still remember that people were so harsh on that movie when it was released on theaters back in 2011, now we miss that level of creativity and risk taking by bollywood, but when they were doing it, we went too harsh on them.

Rocket Singh.. What a film man! The film has it all.. I never wanted to watch such a film in OTT.. I don't why it failed at the box office. Maybe lack of promotion..
You forgot Lakshya, Jodhaa Akbar, Mission Kashmir, Fiza etc (Hrithik was not afraid to experiment)! Even Fighter is a huge risk considering hindi movies don't get large scale VFX budgets like Top Gun and still he tried. Even Krrish for that matter
Ajay devgan did many such brilliant films in the 1995 to 2010 period which have become cult classics now. Bhagat Singh, raincoat( my favourite), ouatim, gangaajal, company, omkara all were so good.
The competition today of our films isn’t just within the periphery of Bollywood, our films are now being served in a pool of choices & a market where the flow of content is humongous. The fact that we’re now exposed to so many options, varieties, it’s becoming equally challenging not only for actors but even for directors to come on terms. With every decade things change & get more perspective, the later is something the industry would need to work upon
Ajay Devgn make more risk taking movies like Apaharan (2004), The Legend of Bhagat Singh (2002) and obviously Omkara (2006), even Sunny Deol has made risky movies like Ghayal: Once Again back in 2016 but the audience rejected it because that was a totally new story which focuses more on the younger youth than the main lead itself.

We as audience need to start accepting big stars for small films and roles. Only then will they experiment. Not everyone is a Vijay Sethupathi or Fahad Fazil to risk everything and keep experimenting even if the role is small. The problem is partly us.
Earlier, there were director-actor combos like Subhash Ghai-Jackie Shroff, RGV-Manoj Bajpai, RGV-Vivek Oberoi, David dhawan-Govinda, Rajkumar Santoshi-Sunny Deol, Priyadarshan-Akshay Kumar, Priyadashan-Akshaye Khanna, AbbasMustan-Akshaye Khanna etc who have given blockbusters to be remembered for years. The problem nowdays is the budget and recoveries....the fees of a superstar is all time high even with a strict budget a srk or salman movie will go around 200 to 250cr...eventually with a risky films to do 400 cr is tough....so hard for producers too latest examples is dunki ..so better to make big lavish action entertainer and aim for better collections and go with flow till the taste of audiences changes ....
In a recent conversation with Bharadwaj Rangan, Hrithik Roshan opened up about the challenges he faced with films like Vikram Vedha, where he invested immense effort but faced box office setbacks. This experience prompted a reevaluation of his choices, leading to a shift towards more commercial projects( FIGHTER,WAR 2 ,KRRISH 4 ).However, His words underscored a genuine wish to be introduced with a focus on his craft as an actor, rather than a superstar . Towards the end, there's a subtle reassurance to himself and his fans that he will continue to explore the actor within him, even within the realm of commercial ventures.
I think we will have to wait for Hrithik the 'actor' for a bit because he will be fighting bad guys and doing superhero things (I am not complaining) atleast till 2025

Another risky venture of SRK is Paheli. It's a supernatural fantasy drama directed by Amol Palekar which also stars Rani Mukherjee. Most people won't even remember but I highly recommend it.
People are no more interested in investing 300 rupees and 3 hrs in the theatres, unless it provides a larger than life experience, yes, that's indeed true. The times have changed, the mindsets have changed, people are clear about their choices, whether to watch them in theatres or OTT. Not telling that content based movies don't work at the box office, it's just that he margin of error is so less. These are days where people are addicted to insta reels, youtube shorts (not even videos), Facebook memes, and thanks to COVID, OTT became so prevalent, that entertainment is no more socialized, rather it's personalised. for them to watch in a theatre for 3 hrs will be tiresome.
I think the concept of pan masala films has affected films in this era because most stars look for a mark as pan Indian stars rather than choosing good and simple scripts. It's very shocking however, how some of the most midiocore projects become successful yet films like Laila Majnu etc don't get the success they deserve

Fantastic topic. An exception for (despite his inteview) is Ranbir Kapoor. He is willing to take the risk and irrespective of movie performance and content this guys brand is untouched. Maybe because he seems ballsy by nature and perhaps sheltered by his family lineage (we forgive easily) and yes he is that damn talented. But... Not all films have a theatrical audience. Stars by nature were made in Theatrical. I do not believe new stars can be made in OTT. OTT can provide a great platform for Creators but it feels too common and accessible and loses the mystique of stardom. But the conundrum is that Stars are made by the audience in theTheatre. Fans ask for Prawn and Chicken Masala Biryani Noodles but actually want Dhal and Roti every day from their moms. This is the issue with Bollywood and Tollywood right now. Stars are unable to take risks. I believe Tamil and more especially Malayalam is able to have audiences who can cheer for their stars. I do miss these risks in Bollywood from the Mainstream Stars but it has come with Brickbats for the Stars and we will never see this era again. Because it hurts their brand. Somehow we are more forgiving towards our Actresses than we are to the Actors. That topic for another day. Actors like Saif and Ajay can take risks as they are neither Superstars nor bound by Stardom.
Fans doesn't want experiment bcz after dunki's under welming performance every one wants action films ,There are rumours that srk doing slb film ,as a fan we doesn't want him to do a love story ,but if he still wants to work ,then they should re think about female lead ,it looks weird and cringe If srk romancing with alia ,the young actresses like Kiara , Rakul ,aditi ,tripti suits with him more, they look young mature women with him ,just like ajay and Rakul despite the age difference story they look good in film
So many reasons: 1.Ticket prices in Multiplexes are prohibitive and easily avoided for a nuanced film when you can wait for an OTT release. 2.Actors charging huge amounts which forces Producers to make movies which have a high probabilty of breaking even at the least. 3.Polarising politics and danger of violence 4.The audience is largely male and rarely prefer women lead films unless the gaze is male and hypersexualised. 5.Stars and their megalomania.
Srk and my name is Khan is one of the biggest risks I guess he took. It was such a beautiful movie and so hard to not fall in love with SRK and the complex message he promoted. Such innocence and different storytelling deserves all the praise to the director and the actor.
Our audience don't deserve good movies that's why Bollywood is more focused on making money nowadays. Also they don't want to hurt anyone's So Called Sentiments lol
Quite surprising that there is reluctance to accept that Dunki did well. I mean a bland, documentary-kind-of-a-movie making 200 crores domestically should be seen as a victory.

It may take some time for the old era to come back because rn producers and actors want the audience to come back to theatres after the pandemic which is why they are focussing more on massy films
Great vedio with so much information, i always wanted ajay devgan to play a role of villan , in my opinion there are only two reasons that we didn't see old Bollywood 1st is this vedio and 2nd i thing we don't have effective supporting actors like paresh rawal , om Puri , amrish puri , rajpal yadav , Jonny lever , anupam kher , Nana pategar , nasruddin shah , gulshion grover , Sanjay Mishra who are as important as leading cast

I think a good movie is a good movie and it has nothing to do with our childhood. Sure, because of nostalgia we associate more to certain movies but we still enjoy them today which proves their quality and that they have stood the test of time. To give an example, I recently watched a Hollywood classic "singing in the rain" in an open theatre and I just loved that movie and that movies is from 1952, even our parent were not born then so forget about us. So their is only a partial merit to the childhood theory.
I think everyone has a phase in their life. A person will be experimenting. They would be in their teens and 20s, but after getting married there is an additional responsibility where you have to do everything soch samajke. It's even applicable in every industry, in my opinion. After responsibility is over, you will again be a free bird, I guess..
Same story with srk Ranbir Kapoor did short film before his filmy career karma and srk did umeed before his filmy career Please i want to see more srk acting in type of movies like Umeed (1989) swades (2004) , and fan 2016
As a westerner, I only discovered the magic of Indian cinema about four years ago, and even I believe the films made between 2000-2010 were bolder than those made today. Today's films are great and entertaining, but the films of the past definitely seem more original and interesting.
I think the dearth is in terms of opportunities too. A Raj and DK or a Sriram Raghavan project find it tough for their projects to get green lit vs Farhad Samji or Ahmed Khan.
@@TriedRefusedProductions agreed. People like us would any day watch a Raj& DK / Sriram Raghvan movie over Farhad Samji movies, but most of the audience still watch a movie based on the actors rather than the creators.
The thing is in general occupations there is something called promotion. Actors are the same. They start with performance oriented films, sports films, rom coms, love stories, dramas, thrillers and then they get promoted to mythology, action, action comedies, spy thrillers, fantasy, big tentpole films. So what if srk/hrithik doesn’t do general dramas like swadesh? A vikrant massey will. So expect what to expect from the right person! 👍
The truth is...... even if they made these movies today, they would still UNDERPERFORM at the BO.... People love to PREACH on social media, but the same people themselves NEVER spend money on such movies and then cry why mostly Cr@p masala or action films make money!!! Making niche plot based movies is STILL bad for business..... Period!🙃

Bollywood is not scared of taking risks, but people are facing Inflation. In our Childhood, tickets price were Rs.25 and now is is Rs.250. Another factor is the emergence and ease of OTT making the makers nervous whether to release the movie in theatres or OTT.

One has to tap in into some unchartered territory to get that attention
6. We as audience are hypocritical: We don't award good movies being made rather go with the trend. And this is not something new but was there since past many decades.
Very well thought out and written as well. 💯💫

Nowadays this is one aspect is missing badly. Directors and actors are scared of the smokescreen called "Social media".
Kabil is such a underrated movie, the acting the story was immense. You will in many scenes because of their expressions and the ability to show emotions in the truest manner.
Besides good acting of hritik, Kabil was dumb film
So many loopholes in thriller is not acceptable
It's not only us ,those movies were really good. I introduced my son with dil chahta hai , jab we met and DDLJ who is 17and he just loved it. Then movies were really better than what we have now.I feel we were lucky to be born at that point of time
The problem nowdays is the budget and recoveries....the fees of a superstar is all time high even with a strict budget a srk or salman movie will go around 200 to 250cr...eventually with a risky films to do 400 cr is tough....so hard for producers too latest examples is dunki ..so better to make big lavish action entertainer and aim for better collections and go with flow till the taste of audiences changes ....
What would he expect from a remake movie 😂. All over India people are rejecting remakes.

Hrithik did Lakshay, Guzaarish, Kaabil, Vikram Vedha .... All Bombed at BO. Shahrukh did Swadesh, wasn't a great success at BO. Saif did many experiments (may be more than any other star) all failed. We as a Audience are responsible for this. Thanks to OTT we are still able to get quality content. Bollywood corporatisation will not let good movies come out. 12th Fail will come once in a blue moon
The problem is the audience. Like satyajit ray said back in the day. Indian audiences are backward. People like mindless stuff rather than just something with great artistry. Medicority is considered as standard over here.

From the past 4 years every weekend I prefer to watch Bollywood old films.. watching these movies took me back to those beautiful days and I feel myself lost completely in the past..I do this on purpose because during these 2 Days of I forget my adulthood, responsibilities and every bit of stress which I consumed at my job for the whole week..in these 4 years I almost watched every Bollywood movie from 1988-2007..these old movies are the only thing which make me feel happy and free like I used to be 15 years ago.
we don't simply miss those films from '90s and '00s because of the nostalgia attached to it
but because of how innovative and different those were at the time
personally I don't feel like going to cinemas anymore because it feels like every hero is doing the same formulaic thing
one action movie becomes a hit and then you have every A-lister doing an action film for the next 4 5 years
which made me lost interest in bollywood
the risks and niche movies you mentioned is exactly why i fell in love with the movies
i feel every actor should do what comes naturally to them and not try to be another
I miss:
akshay in comedy/action
saif in urban rom-coms, character roles
ajay in understated roles
shah rukh in romantics
hrithik in out of the box never seen before roles
salman in mass comedies
aamir in unique roles whilst not taking himself too seriously
How I loved Laal Kaptaan...! I saw it on ott platform few years back and was blown away by Saif and Deepak's performance and the story telling ...!!! Tht movie was a visual treat .!
The number of challenging and twisted roles Ajay has pulled no so called 90s and early 2000s star did (I am excluding Ranbir here....Hrithik is still the last superstar) An omkara followed by golmaal an Apaharan followed by golmaal 2.... killing it in commercial space like Singham and Drishyam....but establishing himself as a terrific actor with diverse work like company, bhoot (best horror Hindi film), Masti (best sex comedy of early 2000s), Yuva, Raincoat, Gangajal and Deewangi his career best role....I know Aamir has given better screenplay and Stories with good acting but always played since sarfarosh a morally upright character.... where as Ajay went full monty in risky character portrayal
I think we are gonna reach a saturation point soon in these Big Mass Action Films (only the IPs which have been developed till now will work) in the future if they don't bring something new to the table.
You are bang on about this!

I remember you made a video about Shahid Kapoor (The unlucky Bollywood Actor who never became a star). I was expecting that you would mention some of his work too in this video. But unfortunately, he failed to make the list. But I absolutely agree with the context of this video.
You must accept Hrithik is very big risk taker in Bollywood....💯
They cast shanya kapoor with srk 🤡
So many reasons:
1.Ticket prices in Multiplexes are prohibitive and easily avoided for a nuanced film when you can wait for an OTT release.
2.Actors charging huge amounts which forces Producers to make movies which have a high probabilty of breaking even at the least.
3.Polarising politics and danger of violence
4.The audience is largely male and rarely prefer women lead films unless the gaze is male and hypersexualised.
5.Stars and their megalomania.
Srk and my name is Khan is one of the biggest risks I guess he took. It was such a beautiful movie and so hard to not fall in love with SRK and the complex message he promoted. Such innocence and different storytelling deserves all the praise to the director and the actor.
So true the film is an industry not a socitey. It is an exchange of money so producers are scared of risks

As a westerner, I only discovered the magic of Indian cinema about four years ago, and even I believe the films made between 2000-2010 were bolder than those made today. Today's films are great and entertaining, but the films of the past definitely seem more original and interesting.
It's like what Adam Sandler is doing nowadays:- Murder Mystery 2 to Spaceman. As he said once 'One for them, One for us'.
There is actually a dearth of good filmmakers with a vision I guess & the budget & the average ticket prices might be an issue for a moviegoer.
