Agneepath's remake mostly worked because the setting was completely changed. While AB Sr was a suavely dressed mafia, HR's version was more rustic and rugged. Plus replacing Mithun's character by a negative Rishi Kapoor's potrayal was a masterstroke
It only worked because of the cult status of the original . Amitabh Bachchan's character was hugely inspired from Corleone and Tony Montana as the movie is inspired from Scarface which was the reason his character had dark shades whereas Hritik character made me felt like another typical masala movie character . The BGM, Set design, costume match today's standards which couldn't matched by remake . Even today everyone remembers the original Agneepath and not that typical masala movie
The common thing in all these iconic remake was that both makers and main lead were never trying to mimic or copy the iconic things of previous movies but giving their own and new dimension to the characters and movies.....
true.. but today's filmmakers fail in both the aspects, whether its making a ditto copy (judwa 2, shehzada) or giving it their twist (bhola, vikram vedha)...
Hrithik's ability to reinvent characters in remakes is truly remarkable and deserving of more recognition. Whether it's in "Agneepath" or "Vikram Vedha," he doesn't merely replicate the original character; instead, he brings a fresh perspective and interpretation, crafting a new version that stands on its own merits.
Agneepath was far superior than vikram vedha story wise screenplay wise direction wise and of coarse acting wise. Original vedha was a overrated story with good acting somehow managed a huge TV audience for it. If you compare it with a thriller story like drishyam it doesn't even come close
As much as we love SRK in romance and action genres…..SRK in negative role hits a different mark… Darr.. Anjaam …Baazigar and for those who love Fan the most part was to do with how amazing srk was as gaurav. Don does hold a special place for SRK fans. Not only coz we love to see srk… but it is on an other level when he does anti hero. Which is specific to SRK unlike for Amitabh Bachpan or for Ranveer Singh… The fact the Srk with jawan and pathan has audience is such a high… that him in don 3 would have been euphoric for fans..

The language makes a world of difference - the english language is so limited in its vocabulary n hence there r lot of non translatables ! Ghajini in tamil felt like over the top when the twin brother thing came up and the climax fight scene looked like a matrix rip off. That's where the hindi remake made better of itself. But, the flashback portion worked big time in tamil thanks to the chemistry between suriya and asin along with harris music. If anyone doesn't know, harris was a near equivalent of ar rahaman given the similarities in both of their music.
I don't want to get into which version was better but the music of original ghajini by harris was so good so i would disagree with Jammy in this one cause I prefer the composition of the tamil ghajini than the hindi one by arr
@@krishnakrupaur3727 Both albums are great. Oru maari and Suttrum vizhi sudare are beautiful. In Hindi Ghajini Guzarish and Kaise Mujhe tum Mil gayi is always on repeat mode for me. But from BGM perspective, it has to be Hindi Ghajini
Not a remake per se, but Aashiqui 2 was an adaptation of A Star is Born (1937)... It was one of those rare Bollywood gems that worked as a perfect sequel and a beautiful adaptation. Not to mention the soundtrack... ❤️
I actually agree with your picks. I am a bit older than you and remember "Tere Naam" releasing like it was yesterday. That final scene just ripped our hearts apart! Salman Khan's expressions were something else! Same with "Ghajini". It's the emotions that made these remakes memorable.
The take on Agneepath from a stylised crime revenge drama (which is in itself iconic in its own right) to raw mass movie uplifted by refined take on the charceters truly made it something special. I vividly remember the time I saw in this in the theater and being truly mesmerized.
Manichitrathazhu always above all remakes. Suspense, creepiness and Performance are top notch and still highest rated and repeat telecast film in Malayalam History.
@@TriedRefusedProductions It's because of theme rather than taking routine horror theme and director Fazil & writer Madhu Muttam established proper plot on Ganga's Troubled Childhood and Mental Disorders and given importance to science and logic as compared to orthodox method and Dr. Sunny Psychological evaluation of character was also rare and great.
My jaw still drops and eyes still stop blinking while watching Shobhana in Oru Murai Vanthu Parthaya! Same as when I first watched the movie at age 6 or 7. Sheer brilliance.
I love the fact tat manichitrathazhu did not show it as a horror but actually told a story which was actually psychological thriller unlike the other eye rolling remakes! And SHOBANA maam will always be THE QUEEN!!!❤
Comparing and feeling that NEW AGNIPATH with a NON ACTOR LIKE HRITHIK - YOUR FAVOURITE is better than the iconic original really shows that how biased any person can be due to his love for his favourite actor and ignoring the brilliance of MUKUL ANAND AND AMITABH BACHCHAN I will be happy if out of 100 people at least 5 share the same opinion such as yours. Please don't be ANDH BHAKT Think rationally
Agneepath was soooo good that i went to watch it twice in a theatre. I never watch the same movie more than once. Hrithik was outstanding 😍 He is a super versatile actor
AajTak Maine Bas Do Movie Dekh Hi Roya Hu .... 1. Tere Naam Ka Last Scene Dekh Kar Jab Radhe Neerjala Ka Dead Body Dekhta Hai. 2. Koi Mil Gaya Jab Rohit Ko Preity zinta ka jeep ka seat m chewing gum chipkane ke liye hrithik ko marte h ar usko scooter tod dete h
Agnipath remake is best in all because it's just to the point, honest and more logical where original movie is over dramatic, lengthy and unwanted extended characters.
really the old one is dramatic look at the dinner scene in the original and how melodramatic they did it in the remake the old one was realistic while the remake was a masala movie
Had no idea about the changes which were made in the Hindi Ghajini. Thank god they made those changes because they really indeed made the movie much more intense. I guess that's where Aamir Khan comes in as a leading man and the producer of the film. He has almost always known what the Hindi audience wants.
@@Anonymous-bf5fk yeah and salman looks funny in it. His Crying scenes were really bad, just like dabbang and tubelight. salman can't do emotional scenes.
Tere Naam was such a huge cultural phenomenon in North India...that schools had to ban Radhe haircut.... The songs were a rage...replacing songs of Ajay Devgun's Dilwale on all Buses and auto rickshaws 😂
I agree with your statement about Ghajini, the emotional depth of the relationship between Kalpana and Sanjay is much more is much more profound in the remake. It's heartbreaking and sad when you realise that he never got to reveal his true identity to her. Also the grounded and realistic action in the climax makes it perfect
Almost all the priyadarshan movies in hindi which are remakes of malayalam movies are fantastic, the actors especially akshay, paresh rawal and rajpal yadav were just outstanding, its not easy to keep entertaining hindi audience for roughly more than a decade with comedic talent even Hrithik Roshan in bang bang and vikram vedha was phenomenal, bang bang just became one of the best remakes of a underwhelming movie in my opinion, and Vikram Vedha was watchable mainly because of Hrithik's performance as Vedha, atleast for me
For some reason Priyadarshan has not yet remade his best Malayalam comedies from the late 80's and early 90's. Hera Pheri, Bhaagam Bhaag were not even his movies in the original. His movies like Mazha Peyyunnu Maddalam Kottunnu, Aram + Aram = Kinnaram, Chitram were laugh riots and now there are more talented actors with great comic timing like Vijay Raaz, Pankaj Tiwari and Nawazuddin who can do some of these roles. I can imagine Akshay Kumar and Nawazuddin in Mazha Peyyunnu Maddalam Kottunnu remake which will be a sure shot blockbuster if they make it scene to scene and translate the dialogues like Hera Pheri .
Agneepath in my opinion is the best remake ever. I think remakes work when you don't copy the original but rather improve upon them. Don and Ghajini also do the same. Comparing the Ghajinis, I thought that Suriya was more charming in the romantic sequences while Aamir looked like a mini Hulk struggling to really move. The songs were good in both versions. The climax (no twins and him remembering Kalpana) and the eight pack of Aamir Khan made the Hindi version better. I don't agree with Tere Naam because the national award winning performance by Vikram has a special place for me. Bhool Bhulaiya is an insult to the Malayalam version. Vidya is no Shobana and Akshay Kumar's entry doesn't hold a candle against Mohanlal's. The fact remains that despite their skills, Akshay and Ajay Devgan have always paled in comparison to Mohanlal in all the remakes. I wish they changed something here or there in Vikram Vedha, because Hrithik definitely elevated it with his unique performance which was different from VJS. Akshay and Ajay should take a cue from Hrithik who brings out his own rendition of the character in remakes rather than try to imitate Mohanlal, which is impossible.
The twin Ghajinis ruined the Tamil Ghajini. It was such an unnecessary plot twist which had no contribution to the running plot. So, I loved it when the Hindi Ghajini left it out. Otherwise, I loved the simple chemistry between Surya and Asin. They are still my favourite on screen couple.
Malyalam audience ko chod ke nobody thinks bhool bhulaiya is bad and I get it but bb is a good movie Akshay nailed the character and made that character of his own same with hera pheri Raju is still celebrated among meme culture
It botched up the Korean film - Chaser, which is the real classic. If there was a standout part in the film, it was the portrayal of Prashant Narayanan as a eunuch. The Korean film is demented on multiple levels, and an incredible film actually.
Ghajini was a total suprise, There was a curiosity to know who is Ghajini and Hats off to Aamir Khan, what a transformation. Ghajini touched emotionally. Never had strength to watch it again, that particular scene is very scary and saddest when Ghajini killed Kalpana.
This is my personal take but I think Vasool Raja MBBS (Munna Bhai) & Unnai Pol Oruvan (A Wednesday) stand out to me as top remakes. Like its so good! Purely cos Kamal Hasan was there to elevate it with his acting!
New Agneepath's Vijay was an awesome character. and very few characters are written like him. He was ready to do anything to get Mandwa back, wrong or right doesn't matter. He plays game and double crosses Rauf Lala. Challenges Kaancha Cheena on his own turf. Loved that character. and special shoutout to Rishi kapoor. He did his career's best performance as Rauf Lala.
Emraan hashmi's "Awarapan" is an underappreciated emotional ride That was a remake a Korean film but damnn they made such a sadistic Indian style rendition that still makes me believe Emraan deserves more like these ventures
I remember rewatching it again. There's some brilliant poetry in that film. It's supporting characters and their lack of acting range slightly threw me off. But definitely had its moments!
The problem is that it's not a remake. It's an unauthorized rip off. Although, I agree Awarapan is a great film.. but the fact is that the Bhatt brothers are the top-notch plagiarists of Hindi cinema.
I think Sallu would have done a better job in awarapan. The climax scene when he dig out from ground needed a better hero. All in all awarapan was a avg movie but murder 2 was good, murder 2 by far hasmi's best movie
It's one of the few bollywood remakes of korean movies (or unauthorized remake) that is arguably way better than the original.. its Mohit Suri's masterpiece, Awarapan proves that he can make good movies when working with better writers. And it got Emraan's best performance and a divinely beautiful music album
I can agree you with all but Don and Agneepath. But when you said you were just a kid when you watched SRK Don, that clarifies a lot. To be in that moment of AB in Agneepath and Don's dialogue deliveries, were just mesmerising. The new Don and Agneepath were undoubtedly good movies but it cannot be compared with the original. Those movies were liked by those days audience, my age audience and your age audience... where as the remakes by SRK and HR can never be appreciated to that extent by my age audience and the 80 and 90s audience
I remember watching Ghajni when I was in 4th standard. I was bawling my eyes out and my parents had to convince me that Kalpana was alright to get me to stop! Naive me😅😅 honestly, rewatching it truly proves what an emotionally charged and engaging movie it is!! Amazing performances, beautiful music and the conclusion still makes me shed a tear!! Definitely one of the best remakes!!❤❤🔥🤩
@@jeevans7656 it is a trend nowadays to just dismiss bollywood and elevate south cinema. Even though its already proven by the success of salman khan after tere naam that his take was very unique and powerful , this movie solidified his career and made him all time superstar .
Completely wrong about Sethu(vikrams performance was more impactful) and Ghajini (The final action sequence were over the top but the relationship depth was better in the tamil version, especially Suriyas performance when Kalpana dies, nothing can top that).
An honourable mention I’d like to add to this list is Bang bang. Knight and day sure had its moments but Bang Bang had a soul to it. Hrithik added the right amount of charm to the role. He sure has an ability to elevate characters in remakes
The original Agneepath is now a cult classic. One video I saw that the original Agneepath came at a time when romance was peak. Also, Rishi Kapoor stole the show
The old Agneepath came out at the very beginning of 1990 and it was one of the first films to start the 90's decade. However, you're right about the fact that romance films were doing well at that time because all 80's action films were such a huge letdown that audiences had lost hope in the action genre.
Unpopular opinion but Asin was the soul of the movie Ghajini, as stated by Aamir Khan in many of the interviews . The innocence and the emotional depth that she brought to her character of Kalpana🤌 Can't imagine anyone else playing that character
Yeah man. I absolutely miss chiranjeevi,. When he used to play a lot varied characters (aradhana, vijetha and khaidi 786). To bhola shankar, Godfather and many more boring and frustrating stuff. Being huge of fan of legend chiranjeevi, deeply saddens me about his work nowadays
@@TriedRefusedProductions Chiru sir's next line up is brilliant. He is now doing Vishwambhara, directed by Talented Vashisht, who has directed Bimbisara. He will also be collaborating with AR Murugadoss for another social action drama.
Chirus range is yet to be explored ...but he has to bold ...apart from commercial he is respected as an actor also with movies like swayam krushi , aapatbaandhavudhu , chantabbayi ...Currently instead of playing safe work with new age Malayalam/tamil directors
Agneepath is the finest definition of "Better than the original". That movie is beyond a masterpiece. That movie makes me hella proud for being a fan of Hrithik since his day 1 on the big screen and mine in life. Yes he is not only the absolute first real person I became a fan of but also the first character i.e. I wasn't even aware of Batman, Superman when I became a fan of him. I still remember running off to my neighbor's house the moment I heard "na tum jano na hum" then crying cuz I remembered I missed most of the movie then my neighbor auntie calling out to my mom and telling her which channel it was on. It was on Sony Max. I had no concept of TV channels back then so I was ecstatic of the news that I'd be able to watch it at my home so I stopped crying. I returned home when adbreak came up. That man is the only celebrity who've never disappointed me. Not just his on-screen stuffs but in general.
Thank you so much for this video TRP ❤❤❤ As a huge Murder 2 and Tere Naam fan, This video is truly special to me... Glad that you acknowledged these gems of indian cinema 💎🥺
I always remember Ghajini (2008) unique trailers It made me restless to watch the movie . The physique of Amir Khan and beautiful BMG by AR Rehman It will always have special place in my heart ❤
The Climax Twist of Don 1 still gives me Chills The Way Farhan Akhtar presented Shah Rukh Khan in the role of Don was just out of this World Will Miss Srk in Don 3
Vikram was MIND-BLOWING in Sethu. But Radhe Bhaiya in Tere Naam is an emotion. The sad smile of him after seeing Nirjara's Body is so heartbreaking. And the songs in Udit Narayan voice are just awesome
I haven't seen rhe original Don or Agneepath but both the Ghajini films. Being a Suriya fan I still think Aamir's version is way better. AR Muragadoss kinda fixed the film's negative aspects with the Bollywood version. On the other hand Thuppaki (original) is far better than Holiday. I'm hoping Muragadoss make a good comeback with the Salman starrer film.
Thuppaki and holiday are exactly same even director told this story to Akshay even before the full script was not ready.akshay character was suited him as a soldier
Only climax of Ghajini is better than original because it justifies on the way hero kills the villain the same way how Asin was killed. Except that tamil version is better than Hindi version. Especially Surya nailed the romance better than Aamir khan
Yes, I do agree Tamil Ghajini is better for its music feels, songs and Suriya's romance❤. And I think that Hindi Ghajini stands out from the original, for it's climax and avoiding the double role twist
Rocky Handsome & Brothers While not superior remakes per se, those were two films that understood the essence of the source material and became truly faithful while also not being scene by scene remakes... Gems ❤
The problem with Ghajini remake is Amir. Surya was so much better in the original especially in the flashback scenes. Amir’s performance just doesn’t do justice to the original so I could never call it better than the original. The same goes for all priyadharshan remakes. None of the actors could match Mohanlal and the rest in the remakes. I mean it’s almost an unfathomable feat. Also Vikram in Sethu was sensational. Salmaan could never even come close.
My personal favorite is KAANTE. I watched that movie multiple times in theatre. And yea, even the original director Quentin tarantino praised the movie and considers an amazing remake of Reservoir Dogs.
You really had no sense abotu Tere Naam. Sethu was a far better movie than Tere Naam. It was one of the best movie of Salman khan but Sethu was more impactful.
6:10 I remember the backlash well. I was too young to understand what was going on but I knew that there shouldn’t be a debate. Also, RGV ki ‘Aag’ was the bigger priority at the time.
I feel Agneepath older version was better in below areas 1. Although Hrithik was good especially in the climax, I feel Amitabh's character was much better written and strongly enacted especially the introduction scene, scenes with his mother and with inspector played by Vikram Gokhale. 2. Sanjay Dutt's acting and his dialogues were the weakest part in the movie. Right from his scene with Rishi Kapoor to his laughter and some of his dialogues like Vijay Deenath ko marna padega were ineffective. Just going bald and bulking up doesn't make a good villain. Whereas, Danny Denzogpa was superb as a classy villain which was ahead of its time in Hindi cinema. His dialogue delivery style were anytime much better than Sanjay Dutt. 3. Background score of older one especially Danny's and Amitabh's intro scene, beach scene where Amitabh and Danny meet and the climax scene elavated the movie. Few areas where new one was better were the editing, Ajay- Atul's music and Rishi Kapoor's character.
Being a South Indian, I greatly respect Bollywood legends like Amir Khan, Amitabh Bachan and Akshay Kumar for their natural performances. But I am really not sure if the casting of Salman Khan for Vikram's Sethu was the right decision. While Salman Khan has his own way of entertaining fans, I don't think he is capable of performing emotional scenes to a great extent. - Just my POV :)
Chiyaan Vikram is for a reason no match to his abilities nor did salman out do. Maybe different for salmans filmography but not better than original coz he had to mimic Vikrams performance.
8:07 Childhood Movie Memories with Our ELDER Brothers is Something Else... No matter how old we get... we still joke and laugh about movies we watched when we were kids, and it brings so much joy... Thank you MOVIES for Existinggg!!
Hritik is awesome in Agneepath but accept it Agneepath was a blockbuster coz of hardcore merciless villains. Sanjay Dutt as Kancha was actually a "SHAITAAN" and Rishi Saab as Rauf Lala was mind blowing as cold blooded butcher and pimp. ❤❤❤❤
I think only the climax of the Hindi Ghajini made you think it's better than original. Other than that, there's nothing to differentiate between them, superb acting and though AR RAHMAN the legend composed everlasting music album in Hindi, even Harris Jayaraj in the original gave a chartbuster album, which we listen even today.
I have watched the Hindi one first and tried to watch Tamil one. Couldn't bare to go through everything in it and the climax was a different lv stupidity
Tamil Ghajini is better for its music feels and songs, and ofcoz Suriya's romance❤. But I agree that Hindi Ghajini stands out for it's climax and avoiding the double role twist
tamil version's climax was so ridiculously over the top tho. it looses its entire edge by that point. Its one of the things that hindi version did it way better
@@v-trigger6137 made by same Tamil director, cant say hindi version did it better. But its just that the director corrected himself in the second attempt
Aamir himself changed the second half for the hindi GHAJINI…. The climax and aamirs heart breaking performance made it the record breaking blockbuster that it became .
The list as Jammy mentioned is as per his judgement. Of the films listed by him, the reach of the remake was more to do with matching the local sensibilities. Sethu was made on a shoe string budget and no takers to release. The so called depth in Salman’s acting is a pale shadow of what Vikram went through for the role. He stood in hot sun for the tan and not applied makeup. Moreover the psychotic rage mentioned was more grounded in the original. The Salman Aishwarya relationship at that time was an aiding tool in propelling the movie to its present status. Nothing against Salman but Vikram was head & shoulders above Any other actor who remade it
I may sound bias since being a huge Hrithik Fan. But if you just put a Hrithik Roshan Factor also aside. Then for me Agneepath has be top notch remake till date. I would even say Vikram Vedha also comes close. But at the end it's box office. And crowd were more leaned towards Agneepath. It's remarkable , everything was perfect from top to bottom (music, bgm, screenplay, antagonist and many more)
The thing you mentioned about Shahrukh Khan that he is currently in his peak of his career where he is still able to pull off the role as Don and at that time Amit Ji was not in the condition to did that role . I Totally agree with your statement ❤
Hrithik is the only one I consider to be a star despite him not doing excessive commercial roles. His acting, has made him a star more so than his commercial choices. Whenever he has done commercial roles, even then he has absolutely aced the characters-be it War, Fighter, Vikram Vedha, Agneepath and so many more. I feel his strength is in the mass x class category of films where he can satisfy both the audiences and critics. I just wish he would not be disheartened by Vikram Vedha's failure and do more grey characters like maybe Dev ftom Brahmastra? Or maybe he could do mythical roles like Karna or Lord Shiva? I would have loved him as Raavan in the Ramayana trilogy, and even though Yash is a fantastic choice, I feel Hrithik would have been an absolutely perfect choice. Again, Hrithik has fantastic on screen presence and an even better acting prowess. I don't have to praise his dancing skills as well, they are already well known, but I feel his looks and dance often overshadow the fantastic actor in Hrithik.
Ghajini was a mash up of Momento and Pasand Apni Apni. (40% each) Where it won me over was the unique elements they dropped in (around 20%) which in the end made the story have great impacts and made the whole thing a beautiful film.
The reason i feel Salman khan stands out for his performance in Tere Naam is because its possibly the only movie where he really played the character and didn't try to put any personal touch towards the same..
Jammy I think what u don't understand is sethu is what put Vikram on the map.. an actor who was around for ages ...waiting for his break..this technically was his debut of sorts and pulling this off was not a feat many expected he could.. and yes chiyan was expected to be this fun loving ..yet intense guy ..
Tere naam will never be equal to sethu Bcos the personality of radhe is very easy to pull off as Salman's character is exactly the same. But Vikram's character irl is thoda alag ta . A true artist or an art is playing something which hard to pull off
The Climax of Sethu was more believable because Vikram looked the part (He lost half his weight), but Salman didn't. But, I agree that Radhe has better arc than Chiyaan.
The first Singham was leaps and bounds ahead of the original Tamil version. Rohit Shetty took a great script and added his superb 'commercial' sensibilities to it. The result was one of the best action films of Hindi cinema ever... I don't care if it was over the top, the film is still one of my favorite 'masala' films of the past 20 years. Dabangg and Singham changed the game for the past decade as far as cinema trends are concerned.
@@onasunnyday366 SRK's one is better than Dilip's one. Because it was elevated and has shown in a lavish way. Bengali's 1st two versions were way better though
Hindi Ghajini as movied is superb, undeniable. The climax is better executed, also better technical qualities. But two things makes the tamil Ghajini special. 1. Harris Jayaraj Music❤ ARR is the 🐐,. But man in gajini tamil version the songs and music is on another level. 2. Surya's Performance Even the Mr.Perfectionist Amir couldnt create that magic. Everytime Surya looks at Asin, its heavenly. ( Check that watermelon scene and when they enter the flat, i dont know those two scenes, if its the music or surya. Its just ❤)
The best remake in my view is " pyar tho hona hi tha " starring Ajay & Kajol which was the remake of telugu film " dongaata " starring jagapatibabu & soundarya as a lead And second one is " hum aapke Dil mein rehthe hain " again Kajol as main lead... Which is the remake of " Pavithra bandham " in which venkatesh & soundarya was a pair.... Both directed by anees bazmee and Sathish kaushik respectively... And yah tere naam was better... And Hrithik in Vikram vedha also nailed with performance... It's just a bad luck which killed it's quality.... Otherwise Vikram vedha is top notch performance oriented movie ..
Pretty good video Jammy though a key point to be noted is post the pandemic the consumption of original South content has increased manifold which makes remakes a very tricky business now. Drishyam 2 is probably the only remake to have worked post pandemic.
Drishyam 2 remake is also better than the original in my opinion. I watched the original Malayalam movie and thought that was the perfect movie, and the hindi version still elevated the the movie. The hindi version had cleaner screenplay and far more superior soundtrack.
After the 2000s Aamir Khan has been doing so many amazing movies that are so impactful or really keep you pulled in. Even in the 1990s he did some really amazing movies but those were the romantic comedy action movies. Now I feel like he does impactful movies to the point I still remember and rewatch Ghajini, three idiots, Taare Zameen Par, and so many more.
To me, Agneepath is still the best Hrithik Roshan movie till date. The direction, the acting, the casting, the soundtrack, everything was perfection. The scene where Hrithik kills Pankaj Tripathi and just walks off, face red and deva shree ganesha playing in the background is still one of my fav scenes in the entirety of Indian cinema.
The main point in all these is simple, not Ctrl+C then Ctrl+V ... The makers of the remakes had the vision & sense to make something different from original ... Be it story or characterization or pure story twist ...
8:47 Though I love Ar Rahman with all my heart I would like to respectfully disagree on this point , While the music in the Hindi version of Ghajini may be good but the original soundtrack by Harris Jayaraj is incomparable and maintains a timeless freshness to it since its release.
Agneepath, outside of the names of the characters and a small portion of the summarized plot really is not a remake. While Krishan Iyer MA is a depiction of a character who could be realistic for the time, the trouble is that explaining the context of such characters to 2000s kids is lost but 70s, 80s and 90s kids get it. His character was pure and innocent one who humanizes Vijay. It in essence shows the best aspects of humanity (saving someone, selflessness, loyalty, being faithful and honest) to not only remind the viewer that the hero of the film isn't a pure white hat. The sequences between the two parallel and help develop Vijay's true character. It shows that Vijay is a good person who has had to choose the bad path and can be the baddest guy. In the end this true honest pure guy, Krishan, tried to fight to save Vijay and upon failing he knows that had he had just a bit more time he could bring the pure good Vijay back. In 2012's Agneepath they reversed the development with, Vijay becoming bad. He murders someone who isn't on his arc, but because he is paired with a sinister (and more evil) Rauf Lala the story is now "Vijay is bad, but not as bad as these guys". The plans are awful with killing of characters which aren't on his arc, leading to Vijay being better (in the means of good) then Rauf to meet Kancha with a terrible plan and somehow not being killed. Rauf Lala (like Krishan) steals the show because (this is my opinion/thesis) they appear in the story to show you what the hero could have been. Had 1990 Vijay's father still living he'd be an educated pure hearted Madwha village guy, like how Krishnan is an educated, pure white good, kindhearted south Indian from a village. 2012's Vijay WANTS TO BE RAUF LALA... and Vijay has a love interest from the jump, even doing something heinous for that love. Both film arcs veer differently and like I stated outside of the names of the characters and a small portion of the summarized plot this is not a remake. These are not the same stories. Also, to say that Krishan Iyer MA is problematic and that changing Kancha CHEENA (as in Chinese) to a regular jacked Sanju can also appear in the chat. Standalone both are great films but too different to be a pure remake.
As much as I love Vikram in Sethu, (of course he played it better than Salman except the climax) I would still say Tere Naam seems a better version on a whole. In Sethu, Vikram overshadows everything else. Sethu and Abhitha had a very sweet chemistry but it's mostly because of Sethu only not Abhitha. Abhitha's innocence felt overplayed and at times, even artificial, while Nirjara felt more natural than her. Better songs, better production and even a more poetic ending make Tere Naam a better film.
No doubt Agneepath remake was a brilliant one But the original had some of the most brilliant scenes ever 1. Vijay introducing himself in the police station 2. Son and mother scene Apne haath dhoo lee Vijay is still brilliance to say the least
Aamir himself changed the second half for the hindi GHAJINI…. The climax and aamirs heart breaking performance made it the record breaking blockbuster that it became
Agneepath's remake mostly worked because the setting was completely changed. While AB Sr was a suavely dressed mafia, HR's version was more rustic and rugged. Plus replacing Mithun's character by a negative Rishi Kapoor's potrayal was a masterstroke

True ,specially Aamir khan ghajini which was superior in every given way
true.. but today's filmmakers fail in both the aspects, whether its making a ditto copy (judwa 2, shehzada) or giving it their twist (bhola, vikram vedha)...

The take on Agneepath from a stylised crime revenge drama (which is in itself iconic in its own right) to raw mass movie uplifted by refined take on the charceters truly made it something special. I vividly remember the time I saw in this in the theater and being truly mesmerized.

Agnipath remake is best in all because it's just to the point, honest and more logical where original movie is over dramatic, lengthy and unwanted extended characters.
That Mithun character still boggles my mind
really the old one is dramatic look at the dinner scene in the original and how melodramatic they did it in the remake the old one was realistic while the remake was a masala movie

It's heartbreaking and sad when you realise that he never got to reveal his true identity to her. Also the grounded and realistic action in the climax makes it perfect
Almost all the priyadarshan movies in hindi which are remakes of malayalam movies are fantastic, the actors especially akshay, paresh rawal and rajpal yadav were just outstanding, its not easy to keep entertaining hindi audience for roughly more than a decade with comedic talent
even Hrithik Roshan in bang bang and vikram vedha was phenomenal, bang bang just became one of the best remakes of a underwhelming movie in my opinion, and Vikram Vedha was watchable mainly because of Hrithik's performance as Vedha, atleast for me
For some reason Priyadarshan has not yet remade his best Malayalam comedies from the late 80's and early 90's.

Lost me at hindi gajini better than the tamil😂

Emraan hashmi's "Awarapan" is an underappreciated emotional ride
That was a remake a Korean film but damnn they made such a sadistic Indian style rendition that still makes me believe Emraan deserves more like these ventures

Vikram performance was far more nuanced and matured than that of salman.Still a very good performance
Imo , the only aspect the hindi ghajini is better than the original one was the climax
Original ghajini is better in remaining aspects
Me being a malalyali, I feel disgraceful him saying hera phiri is better than Ramji rao and even bhool bhulaiya
Suriya in Setu is good but Salman Khan is the trendsetter for audience .
Sethu is by far superior to Tere Naam... Vikram missed out the National Award on a closest margin to Mohanlal.
I feel Agneepath older version was better in below areas
Hmm. I like the versatality of Vikram. Nobody can Match his talent

I think only the climax of the Hindi Ghajini made you think it's better than original.
Bas kar bhai bollywood was always mediocre 😂

Agree and why not a joker would support a joker!!!
The reason i feel Salman khan stands out for his performance in Tere Naam is because its possibly the only movie where he really played the character and didn't try to put any personal touch towards the same..
Hell nah bro Sethu is leagues above Tere Naam, vikram’s performance was just too good
I do agree that Vikram is exceptional in the film. But there is a more unhinged energy to Salman's rendition, this is just what I personally felt!
Salman naturally fit in the gunda character.
Vidya Balans role in Bool bulaiyaa was great but what Shobana did in Manichitrataazhi was just legendary...Even Vidya has admitted it
Tere naam will never be equal to sethu
Bcos the personality of radhe is very easy to pull off as Salman's character is exactly the same. But Vikram's character irl is thoda alag ta .
A true artist or an art is playing something which hard to pull off
The Climax of Sethu was more believable because Vikram looked the part (He lost half his weight), but Salman didn't. But, I agree that Radhe has better arc than Chiyaan.
Salman Khan as Radhe ..... Something else ❤
Srk in Don and Devdas was just phenomenal ❤
devdas og was a bttr movie
@@onasunnyday366 you mean the og Bengali one right?
@@arka21thesun yesss
@@arka21thesun even dilip's one
@@onasunnyday366 SRK's one is better than Dilip's one. Because it was elevated and has shown in a lavish way. Bengali's 1st two versions were way better though
Hindi Ghajini as movied is superb, undeniable. The climax is better executed, also better technical qualities. But two things makes the tamil Ghajini special.
1. Harris Jayaraj Music❤
ARR is the 🐐,.
But man in gajini tamil version the songs and music is on another level.
2. Surya's Performance
Even the Mr.Perfectionist Amir couldnt create that magic. Everytime Surya looks at Asin, its heavenly.
( Check that watermelon scene and when they enter the flat, i dont know those two scenes, if its the music or surya. Its just ❤)
Murder 2 better than The Chaser? You need to stop reviewing films completely.
The best remake in my view is " pyar tho hona hi tha " starring Ajay & Kajol which was the remake of telugu film " dongaata " starring jagapatibabu & soundarya as a lead
And second one is " hum aapke Dil mein rehthe hain " again Kajol as main lead...
Dongaata was itself a remake of hollywood movie french kiss
Hrithik 👑
Pretty good video Jammy though a key point to be noted is post the pandemic the consumption of original South content has increased manifold which makes remakes a very tricky business now. Drishyam 2 is probably the only remake to have worked post pandemic.
Drishyam 2 remake is also better than the original in my opinion. I watched the original Malayalam movie and thought that was the perfect movie, and the hindi version still elevated the the movie. The hindi version had cleaner screenplay and far more superior soundtrack.
When I read thumbnail I remembered shankar dada mbbs.. surprisingly you mentioned that❤
After the 2000s Aamir Khan has been doing so many amazing movies that are so impactful or really keep you pulled in. Even in the 1990s he did some really amazing movies but those were the romantic comedy action movies. Now I feel like he does impactful movies to the point I still remember and rewatch Ghajini, three idiots, Taare Zameen Par, and so many more.
Awarapan slightly changed the story of 'A Bittersweet Life' and it worked so well. I won't mind to call it better than the otiginal
Murder 2 was sensational, incredibly fantastic!
The climax of Don being a work of beauty is for sure. Unbelievable ending.
The efforts made by Vikram and Bala for Sethu is unmatchable
As much as I love Vikram in Sethu, (of course he played it better than Salman except the climax) I would still say Tere Naam seems a better version on a whole. In Sethu, Vikram overshadows everything else. Sethu and Abhitha had a very sweet chemistry but it's mostly because of Sethu only not Abhitha. Abhitha's innocence felt overplayed and at times, even artificial, while Nirjara felt more natural than her. Better songs, better production and even a more poetic ending make Tere Naam a better film.
No doubt Agneepath remake was a brilliant one
But the original had some of the most brilliant scenes ever
1. Vijay introducing himself in the police station
2. Son and mother scene
Apne haath dhoo lee Vijay is still brilliance to say the least
Totally agree with your list💯. Just to add Agneepath had "Abhi Mujh Mein Kahin" to elevate the movie to another level.
You forgot Kaante which was way better than Reservoir Dogs which was affirmed by Quentin tarantino himself
Aamir himself changed the second half for the hindi GHAJINI…. The climax and aamirs heart breaking performance made it the record breaking blockbuster that it became
