Didn't know that underground train brought him straight to Sweden.
+DarkInvader The very first part is in Denmark just before sweden. You can just spot the copenhagen metro
Exaclty. They cut the middle part out. He indeed gets on the Eurotunnel shuttle and then... wait for it... Sweden!
No no, it goes under The Netherlands
Alex Veldhuis you thick mate lol, the Euro tunnel connects England and France
You don't say, only been thru it a dozen times, and I'm Dutch. Makes you more thick for not getting the joke, lul.
2:46 priceless shot.
That was brilliant!
Looks like part of a movie trailer
Cinematographic perfection 😍😎😍 that will still look fantastic in 20 years' time.
did anyone notice the windmills creating a revolving Mercedes symbol
Brilliant dop....
that "Mr Hammond is unwell" moment never fails to raise a laugh.
the most james way of saying hammond is puking into the sea
Also love when May says “Well, I guess I don’t have to run!” Lmao
Supposedly he wasn't seasick, just supremely hungover from the night before.
Surprised he didn't shout "I'M FROM BURMINGHAM"
"Oh, Hammond's come round...hello"
The music coming in a 2:32 is the most intense part of any race they ever did, at least out of what's been uploaded to the channel. Goes to show just how determined the three of them are. Hammond and May going through the sea in a tiny little boat, praying it will make it to the finish line, and Clarkson having driven nearly 1,300 miles still hammering that masterpiece of a car, not knowing what was about to unfold. Beautiful.
What's the song? Does anybody know?
@@yovanbungaroo4727 M83 - Moonchild
M83 - what a masterpiece
they cut out the most iconic shot of the race from the original roll. This music originally played when Clarkson drove over the great belt bridge, with the camera panning out into a fantastic panoramic view.
@@TDCflyeranywhere I can find that clip?
When you realize that the Land Rover used by the filming crew also covered the same distance, at the same speed as the McLaren
LOL
Ya because it’s so hard for a car to drive that far. wow
It’s because they do the race first, and THEN record all these shots after the race results have been determined
@@duolingoowl7043 no sir there's no such thing
Everything is pre planned... It's just for show
@@thegreatafrican3367 Yeah, but what I meant is that they actually do the race, and then go over the route for 2-3 days taking all these dramatic shots of the vehicles. The Top Gear crew confirmed it in one of their FAQs in the Big Book of Top Gear.
@Roy Sunshine 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Years later and watching 2:32 onwards still gives me chills. The music and the video are so surreal.
Just EPIC!
Best top gear race imo 👌👌👌
Can not stress this enough.
It puts me back in late 2010 when I was binging these shows. The music. The roads.
Back in the days when Top Gear was properly produced. Loved it!
The song is Moonchild by M83
I still can’t believe its been 17 years since this challenge..
Good times pass so quickly..
The roads have improved. It is now 110 km'h highway all the way to Oslo from the Sweden-border.
Makes me so sad, the nostalgia of this race alongside this music...
I wish there was a way to know you're in the good old days before you've actually left them.
-Andy (The Office)
Years passing by and we can't catch it. When you look back you can breathe your time in one breath. It's just inconceivable thing about time and life. When this trio shows up, time passes like a one deep breath.
So you believe that hoes cash toxic social media and brainwashed leftists along with 2 big financial crisis is a good time?
how much did they skip????
Emilio Kuhlmann alot skipped. Sweden skipped france skipped denmark skipped the 1st boat breakdown skipped netherlands skipped germany skipped the boat part skipped the longest highway skipped belgium
None, there is part 1 as well type Mercedes SLR Challenge part - 1 Top Gear.
about half an hour
Many
What do you expect lmao. They don't want you watching this shows on fucking UA-cam. Want the full episode watch then
“Get the window down because I love to hear the noise”
Cue the top gear sound editor
The place they ended up in is called Stavern, and it is located about 1 hour and 30-40 minutes from Oslo. They drove with boat past my cabin once and walked past my other cabin in “the place we have no idea where” (Stavern, Larvik)
jeg måtte bla ned kommentarfeltet for å se om noen sa hvor de var, jeg kunne mene at det så ut som Stavern.
That's fecking cool man!
But they didn't 'end up' there, earlier you can see they are on much smoother waves going through what looks like Oslofjorden and then somehow they ended up on open sea again (it doesn't even look like a sund with and island, the land on either side rises too far up). They also intercut some of the footage of Jeremy driving 'near' Oslo with footage from what looks like the Netherlands.
Oh well, English people don't know the first thing about what the rest of the world looks like so it's all fine I guess.
@@michielvanderzee457 I’m Norwegian and know this.
@@jaalanstrmsnes5447 No you're right it's Stavern (my girlfriend is from Stavern), I didn't mean that, I just mean they seem to have taken two different boat trips. But maybe I'm wrong about that part, could be Tromøysund? Or near Sandøya, Askerøya? Please explain if you know.
Why didn't they upload the road from England to Norway? I mean, the part 1 was when Jeremy caught a train in the Eurotunnel, and part 2 is when he is in Sweden, very close to the destination point. And this is not the first time they miss a big part of a challenge.
+Metallica Fan I agree, it's stupid....
Yeah.. The official uploads are incomplete, they edit a lot out to besides the obvious bits between parts.
search up full episodes
I think this was uploaded before UA-cam's 10 minute limit, or was edited before the 10 minute limit. If so, they had to cut too many things.
Because they want you to watch it somewhere they make money off of it
2:46 beautiful shot that synchronizes with the music perfectly
2:33 Moon Child by M83.
Again with the amazing music!!
Thanks!
Thank you my Good Sir!
Top Gear always had a good choice in music.
Thank you! ^_^
❤️
2:34 This gives me chills man
Beautiful shot at 2:45 the windmills matching the M logo

the parts where moonchild is playing are so powerful, what a great moment

The noise the SLR makes is unique and oh, so fabulous!
1:20
This was recorded before June 10, 2005. The bridge Clarkson is driving on is the Old Svinesund Bridge at the Norwegian / Swedish border. The new bridge was opened at June 10, 2005. It’s a motorway bridge, hosting the E6. You can see it seconds before, the bridge with the arch in the background.
That's Awesome!
" I think Hammond's dead "
Jeremy: :D
Me: XD
I think James and Richard would have won if they didn't lost
Ellen Kingsley Or the boat didn't break down.
Yes.
Yes they would have.
No...they would have won, if clarkson lost.
No shit sherlock🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
r/technicallythetruth
This show was a huge part of my childhood & teenage years. Nothing has replaced it & I’m doubting now if anything ever will. The three lads feel like they are my friends rather than blokes off a tv show. That’s how you know a show has got into the heart & mind of the viewer. Top Gear, Top Class 👏🏼
Wish they do a modern version of this challenge with a P1 on the new amazon show
Do u mean prime or bbc?
[Insert name Here] Prime
p1 not exactly a cross country machine .
Zac Youngson But Jezza did drive across belgium in one and P1s have taken part in Gumball in other rallies with loads of miles
he drove around a town/racetrack .
Disappointed! I came here to see the moment when Clarkson crosses the Öresund Bridge, which is missing between part 1 and 2.
Agreed! That is when the song M83 (at 2:32) is supposed to play.
I know your comment is 6 years old, but yes. That shot, the car, the music. It is one of the best shots in the history of the show and perfectly encapsulates the theme of the old show.
Found the missing part :) www.topgear.com/videos/top-gear-tv/mcmerc-oslo-part-34-series-6-episode-6
5000 kroner is £417
Yup, the missing part. Arriving in France, stuck in traffic in the Netherlands, then speeding on the Autobahn and finally gets sleepy throughout the Denmark section which Jeremy gags on Spunk.
2:33 min. Moonchild M83
Thank you good lad
THANK YOU SO MUCH KIND SIR!!!
Another thankful person!
Marcin Siedlaczek i always come back to this video just to hear that ambience and see that SLR together
Fantastic music!
The beat drop when Clarkson entered the tunnel is criminally underrated
4:02 that's actually a real fight unlike the usual jokey stuff they do hahaha
Jeremy's response to the gps at 1:27 is so freaking funny. He just seems so fed up with it.
I love Top Gear! It was a big part of my childhood
4:14 music name : Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory - Ruthless (Reprise) by Amon Tobin
5:33 "I'll be thinking of you, so, um... take care."
Me: wow, does he actually care?
*hangs up and immediately laughs his ass off*
Me: yeah, that's what i thought
I loved Jeremy's reaction at the end, right when he ended the phone call!
4:23! That’s a song from my favourite OST, from Splinter Cell Chaos Theory!!
I am really going to miss this trio on top gear. All good things must come to an end.
Top Gear wasn't good, it was great.
Indeed
+Alex Skelhorne netflix just bought them they're not gone yet
+9eberra It was amazon not netflix.
Dilip Tien bet new top gear have fallen prey to junk environmentalists/road safety “experts” pump out
4:15 Splinter cell chaos theory music
TG used a lot of Amon Tobin's music back in the day. He made the Splinter Cell soundtrack.
its incredible to hear fans of splinter cell
the old producers of top gear had great taste in music. i remember them using easy muffin by amon tobin for the carerra gt video
I love how cheerful Richard is when he talks
This challenge was just epic, the music, the car, everything.
I love that Moonchild song and the noise that McLaren makes is awesome, pure powah =P
One of my favourite noises a car makes.
u alive m8?
I remember seeing a SLR parked right down the street from my house the most beautiful car ive ever seen.
"Mr Hammond is unwell. I think he's dead"
I LOVE James.
Oh my God mercedes!!! The SLR has the purest engine sound ever... Really one of the few legendary cars...
brrrrrRRRRAP!
when this monster came out all the V12 super cars were shittin them selves, The mighty V8 :)
But it looks so damn ugly!
Crazy hamburg3rs and dead jesters are kinda unexpected things you don't see often Check the 722 and the Mansoory editions

Im now watching this, And this is the first time I'm seeing this. Its the most fascinating event they done. 2:33 This Soundtrack is the intense part of the race and give me chills.

Come back to watch this time to time. I rediscovered the song Moonchild back in 2014 and couldn't believe I had actually heard it the first time during this challenge. That segment was put together so well and as others say it still gives some chills. It's crazy how this time back then with those phones and cars etc felt modern in the moment, and now looking back I miss those times. A Mercedes SLR is very very difficult to obtain now :D
90% of the charm of the SLR is the glorious sound.
The SLR is such a great and timeless looking car
Top Gear + M83 was a vibe, iconic
This episode introduced me to M83 when I watched it years back.
4:14 Ruthless (Splinter cell chaos theory OST), I wasn't ready for that one :D
Holy shit so i wasn't crazy, they legit used Splinter Cell Chaos Theory sountrack lol!
@@nostrodelaantares8416 no no you are not crazy :p
That's not the first time they used SCCT ost in their short films
6:43 NOK 5000 is around £416 in 2021, which is around £276 in 2005 when this race was filmed. So maybe not a pencil sharpener or a car, but maybe an overnight stay at a fancy hotel.
If you notice, they started the race from Heathrow airport. Had they started from their own homes or from the Top Gear studios, the win would've been even bigger for... well, I won't spoil it ;)
lapamful well, they could have taken a flight from Heathrow to Oslo, so that argument is a fallacy.
Give this sound editor a medal!
top gear has great background music
- “We’re wandering around, I have no idea where, looking for a bus I suppose”
Makes you appreciate a modern phone.
Looking at the phone, it should have been able to display a picture/map, since I had an old bugger that I was able to drive with, but it needed an external gps sensor.
Also, the internet access was wildly expensive and slow.
It's one of the 'actual' improvements compared to a few years ago.
“I think Hammond is dead”..😂😂
this has always been my favourite Top Gear challenge/episode ever.
I really like how the 20-year old 405 parked behind the SLR doesn't even look old.
I love it when they did things like this! Race across a country or continent in some dream sports car ! I miss these old shows. Chris Harris, Andrew Flintof and Paddy McGuinness can try doing similar challenges but they don’t have the chemistry of these three old gents.
2:10 Hammond looks pretty damn sick
Jeremy is genuinely and uncontrollably thrilled! 🤣
Clearly the three greatest tv presenters of all time. Legends 💖👍
The sound of the SLR is pure power. No fake shit like new Ferrari's and Lamborghinis.
I disagree. Lamborghinis and Ferraris are still powerful, but they just have a different way of voicing it.
If you talk about new Ferraris, you'd be right. But dont say a word about Fezza from the 90's, because everything about them is pure.
Xzander wow No he's right. They put in computers everywhere even the exhaust sound isnt natural.
Firemarioflower sorry, but, no. It's natural. Just different.
Xzander wow Dude wake up. Its computer controlled, even the car itself. Its not funny any more. Cars are nowadays as fake as a hookers smile. (sorry for the hookers who take offence, i dont mean the ones whos smile is real).
man I love the sound this car makes, gotta be one of my favorites
They seriously played a clip of "Ruthless"? Good taste and appropriate.
Why is Jeremy's laugh so contagious
For me this is one of the top challenges they ever did. This is back when challenges were “just the facts” and not really smacking of any embellishment.
Brutal ass drive Jezza made….and he ended up winning.
I think I would rather make that drive straight through. The flights and boat overnight is nice….but the final 50 miles for James and Richard was brutal. No thanks.
you could write down, that this is Part 3, because I was looking for it for a long time :D Finally!!!
Oh, I've seen this one on TV. So much fun you guys!!
4:31 The Cameraman just HAD to do it at that angle
With 5000 kronor you can buy 500 cheeseburgers at McDonald's in Sweden 😂

Whenever I look at Hammond in that little boat before they get off it, I can’t help it, I get the Frodo vibes 😂🙌🏼😂😁
Clarkson: pretty much single lane all the way to Oslo..
Proceeds to travel on multi lane from that statement on... lol
I absolutely love TG. I've watched this show from the early 80's. The challenges are a real joy to watch. Can some one tell me the name of the music that starts at 2.35. Keep up the great work guys. The show is a real credit to everyone on screen and behind the scenes.
