When I watched this on TV I was in awe of Hammond. You have to be a pretty damn fast cyclist and have a great deal of stamina to do that. So to all you commuters, buy a boat!
Hammond deserved to win. The Stig took the most sensible form of transportation. Jeremy's use of the Thames as a sort of motorway was pretty clever. And James simply took the wrong mode of transportation for London. Honestly, you can crawl faster than you can drive in London when the traffic is really thick.

That's something I always wonder about in these episodes - what is the camera crew doing to keep up with them, especially when they're doing something difficult or impossible. What were they filming Jeremy's boat from? Similarly, the episode where they used trucks to rescue Hammond from a snowy mountain, or crossed the salt pan in cars (the first time that had ever been done), or went to the North Pole in a truck (another first), and so on. They emphasize how difficult it is, how specialized their equipment, and so on, yet the camera crew follows along with no difficulty somehow. How in the hell are they doing it?

Priced when New back in 2008 the Specialized Globe Pro was $1,300 USD and it came with 27 Speeds which was really an 9 Speed Bike which had 3 chain rings on the front and 9 cogs on the back! I still have the Specialized Globe Pro but its sitting in my Parents shed!

Here in Germany our great humorist "Loriot" had a few cartoons about "Der Familienpanzer Susi II" ("The family tank Susi II"), making fun of oversized, bulky, heavy cars. This was in his book "Loriots großer Ratgeber" ("Loriots great advisor") that was published in 1968 - way before the first SUVs appeared on European streets at all...
With regards to filming Jeremy, there's a separate camera boat, but shots within the boat itself are almost certainly small, fixed remote cameras (as often used in cars to show the driver from multiple angles without the complication of hiding the film crew from various shots).
Also I'm sure they do b roll shots so before of after the actual race they do the same route (or at least a few small bits of it) with a camera man there to get different shots. For instance they show shots looking out from his boat that are not obviously shot by a person holding a camera as they show different angles and movements. That's why there are so many different shots without the crew slowing everything down.
The stig talked aboubt this they sent a camera car with it and then afterwards depending either him or someone else would take the car and get B roll shots, this let them get all the good shots without messing too much with the whole race(though at least the first race the did was nowhere near as close as they which is part of why Jeremy was a bit drunk since he was waiting a while but that was more them learning what actual average speed of the road was like vs looking through the route and planing it, second was actually close, sure they have an ideal of the car will win if it can manage this average speed since this is the route and timetables of team public transport are taking So yeah Ben aka the stig got to drive the veryon back the way they came so they could get the bigger camera shots is if you can’t tell if they are in the car or boat they literally might not have been near it when the shot was taken

I knew Hammond would win as that speed limit at the beginning really slowed Jeremy down and I knew May and Stig would never beat Hammond because...well..May was in a car and Stig in public transportation in London. Anyone whose been to London knows just how much of a nightmare the congestion is there. I will never understand why anyone buys a car who lives in London, it takes forever to get through the constant congestion there.
Roman Guerin trust me london has even smaller and more congested streets than amsterdam. In amsterdam a car still has a chance, but public transport would win everything because of the tram services within amsterdam.

I love how one of Hammond's guesses as to what vehicle Jeremy would be driving was a Harrier Jump Jet. It's a pretty neat jet capable of hovering and doing VTOL, it would be funny seeing Clarkson trying to get clearance to land at the airport, and knowing how these guys can drive most vehicles, I wouldn't be surprised if one of them could actually fly a Harrier ;v;
