This car sucks, barely looks any different from the Mercedes SL. Imagine paying half a million for a fucking Mercedes... you could buy a brand new Lamborghini Aventador SVJ or a high mileage Carrera GT for that kind of money
the AMG GT is kinda the modern version of it. not as cool as this but they sound wicked in race trim

Yeah the Carrera GT isn't much of a grand tourer. I might be wrong but I think the name of that care may be an illusion to the 904 Carrera GTS racecar from the '60s.

The Carrera GT stands for "Grand Turismo," not "Grand Tourer." It's a hypercar, There's nothing luxurious about it.

Something about this car's design is absolutely timeless. It falls into the same sort of feeling as the Honda S2000 or the Carrera GT. All it needs is maybe a facelift and they could easily market it today. The SLS looks older than the SLR.

Bond Mercedes will start offering McLaren engines in F1 again (with all that Honda mess) and seems to be "friends" again, so maybe, just maybe, there could be some AMG-McLaren work in the future.
Well there are many variants of the SLR, there is the 722, the Roadster, Roadster 722s, 722 GT, McLaren Edition and my favourite the Stirling Moss. I had a chance of seeing one in a private collection and boy what a car that is.

The pointy hood, the placement of the exhaust, the way the tri-star sits, the long hood and the vents on the side. It's the perfect Batmobile
The SLR always reminded me of something of a German Viper. The long hood, side exhaust, roofline, character and sound are all reminiscent of the Viper imo. It’s also interesting that the SLR and the 3rd gen Viper were released the same year (2003) and Chrysler was owned by MB at the time. Coincidence? ... Maybe. Makes me wonder if there was any communication between the development teams.

I've never had the Motorola V60, but I will say it was way more durable with it's metal front and back cover than the plastic crap every other manufacturer was putting out at the time. I'm not surprised it still works well 13 years after your grandma got it.

I think the SLR aged the best out of the three (Enzo & Carrera GT). They could bring it out today and wouldn't have to change the exterior at all, it still looks modern.
I agree with you for the most part! I’d say everything other than the headlights has aged well(that style imo hasn’t aged well from the Mercedes cars of that era). But I think the Carrera GT and the Enzo have aged well too! Enzo the least out of all of them though.

I remember being 10 years old playing Most Wanted I hatted this car, but now, I'm 25 and I LOVE THIS CAR it's beautiful and amazing
The useable supercar, I live where these were made and a friend who works for Maclaren arranged for me to go round the test track at Dunsfold in one, yes, it is insanely quick, but what I remember most was the braking and also the heat radiating out the body after it had been driven hard, this is a Mercedes Maclarenan, a blend of two worlds, that is like no other car.

About ten years ago I got to play around with one of these because me and my best friend convinced a salesman at the Mercedes of Beverly Hills dealership that my best friends father and my uncle (we were first cousins in this story mind you) was a gazillionaire oil magnate and that as a surprise for his 60th Bday we wanted to replace his Porsche GT lmao
Amazingly the salesman actually was on board and bought our ridiculous alibi. Anyways, one cool feature or quirk as Doug would call it and which he neglected to point out is that I noticed the car had this cool feature where if you were listening to the radio it could rewind or pause the live broadcast. Almost like a radio version of TiVo which meant it had to have a hard drive of some sort for digital storage capacity. Just was rly impressed by that feature, especially all the way back then.
This incredible vehicle is criminally underrated and doesn’t get nearly enough love or recognition as if undeniably deserves many times over

The heavy steering and hard brakes could be the mode you have it in. If you switch to super sport of race mode it might optimize or change the performance depending on the mode you have it set to.

this is way too inferior to the carrera gt in MW. almost the same acceleration, but the handling is much worse

I had an incredible full metal remote controlled SLR when I was a kid. The remote control was the car key. It had automatic head/tail lights and a horn which was controlled with the key. The hood opening procedure was exactly the same as the car itself. The doors were like the normal car as well. The interior and the engine bay was exactly the same too. Probably my favourite toy of all time. It weighed almost 2 kilos bc. it was entirely metal. They don’t make them like they used to. I miss those days

As someone noted, the SLR engine is the m113k, but significantly modded (120 different parts, including not 1 but 2 intercoolers, both of which have more capacity than the single intercooler MB included on the SL55 - solving the main drawback to the m113k engine - HEAT SINK). The other mods grew the hp and tq numbers by 107 and 130 respectively. This is a rocket, trust me.
Impressive stats and info, I appreciate the share. I was actually not aware that this powerplant was a Benz engine. The SLR was the perfect marriage of two of Europe's best, Mercedes and McLaren.

The transmission on the SLR which is the Mercedes Benz 722.6 5 speed auto trans that was used a lot in their high HP high torque models like the McLaren SLR and the E55 AMG. This unit was known for being light weight and capable of handling 1000 HP/TQ with a few small modifications. It was used in a lot Chrysler products where it was known as the NAG1. A favorite auto trans among Mopar drag racers.
At the New York Auto Show in 2006 I noticed one small but really cool detail about the SLR. It was that it had a ram air intake right through the Mercedes Bez three point star badge in the front grill.

In the "controls"-section you could've mentioned the two levers for the wipers and turn signals.
Those come straight out of the Mercedes Sprinter, a big van/transporter.
