This car sucks, barely looks any different from the Mercedes SL. Imagine paying half a million for a fucking Mercedes... you could buy a brand new Lamborghini Aventador SVJ or a high mileage Carrera GT for that kind of money
the AMG GT is kinda the modern version of it. not as cool as this but they sound wicked in race trim

Something about this car's design is absolutely timeless. It falls into the same sort of feeling as the Honda S2000 or the Carrera GT. All it needs is maybe a facelift and they could easily market it today. The SLS looks older than the SLR.

Barney Stinson generally in high end cars the fuel cap has some neat little quirks that average people that drive average cars wouldn’t expect cuz other than a sticker basically saying you probably shouldn’t turn your car into a giant road flare there isn’t GENERALLY any quirky features with your fuel cap

I've always loved the way Mercedes engines sound. You can always tell it's a Merc from a mile away on the AMG cars.

Yeah the Carrera GT isn't much of a grand tourer. I might be wrong but I think the name of that care may be an illusion to the 904 Carrera GTS racecar from the '60s.

As far as I know, this is exactly what Jay Leno was telling Doug about. It’s a hardcore GT (as in grand tourer). Very fast and nimble, fairly comfortable, and a trunk...

Bond Mercedes will start offering McLaren engines in F1 again (with all that Honda mess) and seems to be "friends" again, so maybe, just maybe, there could be some AMG-McLaren work in the future.
Well there are many variants of the SLR, there is the 722, the Roadster, Roadster 722s, 722 GT, McLaren Edition and my favourite the Stirling Moss. I had a chance of seeing one in a private collection and boy what a car that is.

I've never had the Motorola V60, but I will say it was way more durable with it's metal front and back cover than the plastic crap every other manufacturer was putting out at the time. I'm not surprised it still works well 13 years after your grandma got it.

'Battery in trunk' seems to always blow his mind.
The SLR always reminded me of something of a German Viper. The long hood, side exhaust, roofline, character and sound are all reminiscent of the Viper imo. It’s also interesting that the SLR and the 3rd gen Viper were released the same year (2003) and Chrysler was owned by MB at the time. Coincidence? ... Maybe. Makes me wonder if there was any communication between the development teams.

this is way too inferior to the carrera gt in MW. almost the same acceleration, but the handling is much worse

I think the SLR aged the best out of the three (Enzo & Carrera GT). They could bring it out today and wouldn't have to change the exterior at all, it still looks modern.
I agree with you for the most part! I’d say everything other than the headlights has aged well(that style imo hasn’t aged well from the Mercedes cars of that era). But I think the Carrera GT and the Enzo have aged well too! Enzo the least out of all of them though.

I'll never be able to afford such a car unless I won the lottery but I think this is my favourite supercar. It's slightly mad yet with a hint of sensibleness. I also like the fact that it's been somewhat forgotten about. I'll never forget when Jeremy Clarkson raced Richard Hammond and James May to Oslo in one of these. One of my favourite TopGear episodes that reminds me of being a child in the mid 2000s. Great video!

I will always remember this car because of GT4 Mission 34. Took me quite a while to beat it (US edition) without any track cutting. The sucky part was the 2 minute wait each time you had to start over!

Here's a unique feature, the turn signal is designed to be useless at certain angles. NIFTY!
its really not a big deal lol you only really need to see if someone is turning or changing lanes or has their hazards on if they're in front of or behind you. there's no need to be able to see another car adjacent to you indicate where it's going. plus, maybe the designers thought the car looked nicer when its blinkers are off
Ok, so the rear indicator won't show at an angle from the back but remember as you change that angle, you can now see the door mirror light... That is how it was designed.

I had an incredible full metal remote controlled SLR when I was a kid. The remote control was the car key. It had automatic head/tail lights and a horn which was controlled with the key. The hood opening procedure was exactly the same as the car itself. The doors were like the normal car as well. The interior and the engine bay was exactly the same too. Probably my favourite toy of all time. It weighed almost 2 kilos bc. it was entirely metal. They don’t make them like they used to. I miss those days

Same here, only instead it was Carbon. I always had trouble getting it around corners, though, and now I know why.
I would have to disagree. Tuners may have been slower and low on power, but when I drove a tuner, it didn't matter the race, it was so much easier than any other class. But that's just because of how I race. I value corner speed very highly, and make up whatever speed is lost and then some. Darius was a breeze when I drove the Lan-Evo or the R34.
I can't begin to imagine how much a car like this in great condition will cost in 20, 30 years....start saving..
