Sukiyaki beef #4 Canteen Cup Tuesday

  • I couldn't find a definitive receipt so I went with this dialled back version based on some I found that had good feedback.
    Beef cooked in a sweet broth. the original used both beef and tofu which I find pointless but use it or substitute it for beef as desired. the trick is to use a decent quality mirin as some are a strange concoction of ingredients that don't resemble the real thing.
    I hope that you give this gourmet one a try as it makes a light lunch or starter to an evening meal. The broth is delicious. Seriously, give it a go.
    Ingredients
    Beef, any cut that has the fat trimmed
    Half packet of Instant Noodles
    Mushrooms, about six
    Two or Three Spring Onions
    A clove of Garlic
    A Chilli
    40ml Soy Sauce
    20ml Mirin Wine
    20ml Saki or if not available another 20ml Mirin
    Stock cube, Beef Chicken or Vegetable
    Freshly grated Ginger, amount to suit
    Enough water to bring to about 600ml
    Almost any cut of beef will do as long as it has had the fat removed. I tenderise meat by hitting it with a hammer while its still in its supermarket vacuum sealed rapper. Works a treat. The quantities are not vital and the ones I have given are as a starting point for you to devise your own recipe. When everything is cooked remove from the heat nd add the instant noodles. They will dehydrate as the dish cools down to a temperature that it can be eaten at.
