For anyone who want to consume the egg raw but aren't sure about the freshness you can pasteurized it first on the stove with water around 60c (±2c) for 3.30 min. Make sure to put on the heat low and control the temperature with adding bit of water gradually.
I was raised in Tokyo from 1954 to 1956. Sukiyaki was one of my favorite dishes (just behind sushi). Thank you for sharing this recipe. As for the egg, I simply use my boiled egg slicer and have the slices. Not quite the same, but still, what a meal! Tomorrow night I dine!
For everyone doing this with a non stick frying pan: be extra careful and pay attention to the surface of your pan after the cooking. Ours' corroded on the surface apparently because of the acidity of the broth combined with the long cooking time and water. The pan's coating had some copper in it, could be the reason it reacted to the broth this way. Will be buying stainless steel for this type of use in the future.
I loved your channel. I love Asian flvours and I'm trying cook a lot, not only Japanese, but you helping me how to cook in Japan style. Thank you very much ❤
I wish I would have watched this video earlier. I just spent two weeks vacation in Japan. It was fantastic experience. However I poured the raw egg into my rice while eating Sukiyaki instead of dipping the meat and vegetables into it. Hope the chef behind the counter didn’t laugh at me🤭🤭 thank you so much for all videos. I think I will go back to Japan sometime in the future. Two weeks was not enough to explore the culture, history , landscape and food in Japan. Again , thank you.
This is a a very simple meal and oh so delicious! Love your take on it and that you clearly show all ingredients with brands . With your recipes I know exactly what to do. Sure do appreciate that. 🌸
I'm surprised there is no sesame oil? I need to get mirin and dashi to add to my Asian cuisine spices collection which is fabulous. I love cooking foods from around the 🌎. It's alot of work but if you make it a night with your tribe it's a great tradition. It's so much fun with music and drinks. Thank you for sharing. ❤😊
I wanna say that your sukiyaki is so completely different compares to my country.I want to try yours soon because it looks so good.greetings from thailand.
@5:00 don't forget to run the water before dumping boiling hot water onto your stainless steel sink which also goes into your PVC pipes which will eventually cause warping and plumbing issues.
Please try and use only highly marbled beef. (He used very lean beef and it looked very tough after cooking it - the way it curled, etc. When I make it, I use a nice, marbled boneless rib eye roast and, if possible, have butcher slice paper-thin. If not, I semi-freeze and use electric slicer rotating blade to do the same, just more work for me. This dinner is sooooo worth all the efforts and cost. It's simply wonderful.
I love your "slurp alert"! I had a giggle! This recipe is similar to Chinese hot pot. The difference is that you cook everything in the sauce so no need to make dipping sauce. I am new to your channel and I'm glad to learn how to cook easy Japanese home cook food.
I have so much admiration for you, for sharing so much of your culture thank you so much ! If u ever want to give up don't !!! U're amazing !!!!! I love ur videos❤
One of the most beautiful and wonderful meals in all of reality. Sukiyaki ain't no joke. Please find a restaurant in your area and try this fantastic meal with your lover or friends. It's worth whatever it costs.
Hello and thank you for your great videos. When I was a child, it was also common to eat raw eggs in Germany, at least where I grew up. Unfortunately, I never dared to do so again as an adult. I do miss the taste sometimes. Greetings Isabell
I’ve heard of the song “Sukiyaki” my mom lived in Japan as an elementary school girl. When I started learning Japanese she told me about it so that I could add it to my Japanese music playlist. It’s a really sad song, by kinda romantic as well.
its not really a sad song. its original name is "Ue wo muite aruko" meaning walking with my chin up. it is a situation that is rather sad, but it tells us to keep walking with chin up.
I watched this again as I have it saved. Oh my goodness is it just me or is that a lot of food. The food you have to prepare there is as much as I would eat in a whole day spread out over three meals. Also for me personally I could not do the raw egg because I cannot do anything with a slimy consistency. Slimy and I do not get along very well at all. But other than that it looks absolutely delicious. When I tried it it came out very well. Thank you
When we cam back to the states from living in Japan my mother would make this for us and our aunt and uncles. I’ve only found one restaurant that makes this after my mother past. Now I have the true recipe so I can make it myself. Thank you so very much.
Great! While not traditional, the raw egg can be replaced with blocks of Tamago yaki , lightly cooked in the wonderful sauce. My old shoe would taste ok when cooked in that sauce!
~ One of my favorite Japanese dishes. 🥢 I’m so happy to have come across your video, Taiji. I have never made it at home; have only eaten restaurant Sukiyaki. I will definitely make it now. Thank you for sharing…⛩
First heard about it from the anime Ranma 1/2. First had it last year as a celebration from my very excellent manager. We also had okinomiyaki and soju among other things.
I lived in Japan for a few years and I miss the food. Sukiyaki was one of my favorites during the cold winter months. You did a phenomenal job on the recipe. Thank you. New subscriber. 💛✨️😊
My friends from and I from Japan studied abroad in Germany. One day we missed sukiyaki so much, we ate raw eggs from a German supermarket and prayed hard that we don't get sick. Two years down the line, I can confirm that we are all (5) doing well. Needless to say, I wouldn't advise anyone to do that.
Well..even though I have never preferred the raw egg dip; I'm just enjoying watching you eat. I was thinking adding pepper to the egg would also be great..and perhaps a dash of soy sauce or chilli flakes w/wOut pepper.
Amo a cultura asiática e a maneira de cozinhar grata por seus vídeos serem traduzidos para o Português do Brasil assim posso aprender mais amo cozinhar🇧🇷🇧🇷 😊
I never heard of Maroco Sakura, but it is probably a anime/manga called Chibi Maruko-chan. its not at all difficult to make it, so hope you give it a try!!
Thank you, this looks great. One question: I’ve purchased packaged shiritaki and even after boiling, it was hard and crunchy. Not what I am used to eating in Japanese restaurant. Do you know why?
hey, thanx for your comment! to answer your question, the only reason, how that could happen is, when it has been frozen once. If you didn't freeze it, then it could be, that it was frozen in the delivery process...
I wish the whole recipe was sumarised in the format of the first 20 seconds. Sometimes I am just looking for inspiration, and not a 10+minute video. Don't get me wrong, I love your, and others' full explanations with all the little details, but sometimes I am happy to rely on my past knowledge and experience to make sure something works out, so all that is needed is a bullet-point style video.

wow, didn't know this technic!
thanx so much for sharing this info!!
put the raw egg in a glass of water. if it sinks, its fine, if it floats, dont eat
@@cheerubebayonettaholopaine2638 that only tells you freshness, not if it may contain salmonella. Even fresh eggs can be contaminated
This is very helpful thanks 🙏
@@FoxiiGoGrr if the eggs contaminated with salmonela then why its in the market anyway?

I’ll have fresh egg over rice any day but how you were having it is very interesting! I must try now
Thank you for a great recipe!
Is the white cord around you neck and arms just to keep your sleeves out of the way whilst you prepare the meal?
Nice presentation and we like your teaching style. Thank you.

Gostei, vou fazer, mas sem esse ovo cru.
5:29 Where TH did I hear this music before? From a game? Cant remember,,,
Thank you, this looks great. One question: I’ve purchased packaged shiritaki and even after boiling, it was hard and crunchy. Not what I am used to eating in Japanese restaurant. Do you know why?

to answer your question, the only reason, how that could happen is, when it has been frozen once. If you didn't freeze it, then it could be, that it was frozen in the delivery process...
Our shiritaki comes dried and you have to soak it. Save the water for broth.
