Review Pros :
Top notch quality
Excellent price, especially for the sale price that I picked it up for, $85.
Absolutely waterproof
Very sturdy when staked and guyed out. I’ve had this in winds around 30 mph and it has never had an issue
Excellent ventilation - body features a ton of mesh
Good quality materials for a budget tent -
Large mesh overhead pocket
Lifetime Warranty - this is huge, if you have an issue, Teton Sports will take care of you and that issue. I’ve heard from a lot of viewers over the years, those rare few who have issues have always been taken care of.
Tent has numerous vents including one on the door.
Easy setup and break down
Good pack size
Review Cons :
The biggest con that i have for this tent is the size; it is small - so small in fact that everyone is going to be able to use it.
Because of the small size, condensation can form on the inside of the tent body as well as on the fly. The fly is to be expected but on the tent body is a bit of surprise. This goes back to the size of the tent; because the inside of the tent is so small, you have fabric close to your body and with the release of moisture from your body as well as heat, condensation can form around you and especially down towards your feet.
One of the vents can’t be addressed when you are inside of the tent
Somewhat heavy but that is to be expected with a budget friendly tent which uses polyester as the main material.
The Tent Stakes aren’t the best but they work in most situations. These are of a Shepherd’s hook variation and the issues with them is that they bend easily and spin.
I wish the storage bag was a bit bigger; storing your tent in the bag at home where you can easily roll everything is one thing…it’s completely different out in the field.
Funny Amazon Review :
“My wife and I are heavy smokers, we got this tent by saving up our Marlboro cigarette points, the tent is great, the storage pocket holds 3 or 4 packs of cigarettes plus my inhaler.”
Summary :
For the money, I can’t think of a better quality shelters; Teton Sports has really impressed me with the Mountain Ultra; I’ve owned older versions of tent and I am glad to say that I can still recommend this shelter.
It’s waterproof, sturdy in the wind, the quality is top notch and the price for this tent makes it hard to beat.
I have no problem recommending it; way to go Teton Sports.
Stay tuned to my channel for more Teton Sports reviews as I have been working hard for months to test out a number of their products.

Grateful for your channel but more importantly, your integrity! After watching all your videos on this particular tent, I purchased one and am not looking back. First use was a great success! And many more to come. Thank you!
I have owned the 2 person tent for about 1 year and it's a good fit for 2 average sized adults shorter than 6 ft. I used it on 2 solo camping trips without issue, but on my first camping trip with my wife, she managed to tear the tent around the zipper. The mesh is delicate and doesn't stand up to an impatient person wanting to get in or out hastily.
I haven't patched the tent yet, but plan to do so before my next trip coming up soon. I don't see the ripped mesh being a huge issue, but be mindful of the mesh around the zipper and use 2 hands to open and close the zipper. Impatiently yanking hard with one hand when the zipper isn't moving, doesn't do the tent any favors.
I wonder How Am. Indian enters/exit a TP. Very good observation to use caution
to hold tent w both hands WHEN zipping to close or zipping to open ; Another hurdle is respecting bathtub or other few inch high tent material to clear w knee
& feet while slowly crawling through entrance.
Thanks for the great review Luke!! I decided and went with the 2 person ultra after seeing the dimensions. I’m 6’3 so knew right away the one person was a no for me. That being said, and for a tall person the two person tent is amazing!!!! Have used it in many conditions and very pleased with everything! Thanks again
I bought the 3p version in February, love it! It does not have the same problem as the 1p where the fly touches the tent
To start I’m 5’ 11 And I have the 3 man version . It doesn’t have the condensation problem you ran into with one man . I slept in it during a torrential downpour . When I set it up it had just started raining and by morning there was a couple inches of water surrounding the tent. Luckily this version has 2 doors and 2 vestibules . There was a dry spot at back of tent so luckily I could get out . It stayed dry the whole time it was like walking on a waterbed there was that much water . I recommend you trying the 2 or 3 man Version. The 3 man is really two adults and room for gear.
Happy Father’s Day my friend! Love watching your videos! Strength and Honor!
hey Luke how are you?....hope all is well. I love the content, been watching the channel for about a year and not even close to caught up, your impartial reviews are the very thing that everyone should watch before buying equipment. I DO have one tiny issue, I watch your videos late...between 11pm and 1am...and many times the volume goes from comfortable to Blaring when you get close to the camera, maybe I'm just one voice on this. anyway, love your work, keep giving us the great information !!!!!
I have the older versions in both 1 and 3 person and they are awesome tents especially for the price and quality. The reduced size of the 1 person now would be a deal breaker though
Thanks for all your work reviewing this tent. I'm looking forward to a larger version :)
Luke I’ve watched all your videos for over 2 years, I only have one comment you hardly ever wind test the tents! I live in the U.K. and many people here wild camp in exposed sites so waterproofing is important but also will it still stand up in a gale or storm weather! Will it stand up in 50+ mph winds. Many tents simply do not work in a storm!
That I think will be super hard to test ... would be nice to see though
Hmmm. So he just needs to build a wind tunnel...🤔
Very true most moorland or costal camping in the UK is windy. I have tried a few of. The US tents like Big Agnes AND MSR and they struggle bad in even moderately strong winds. All the reviewers mainly are in sheltered woodlands and trails from many US reviewers
Like all tents, it makes a lot of noise flapping with the wind. I was kept up one night due to 35 km winds and the tent was just fine. No tears or damage in any way. I tightened the guy strings and the noise was reduced, but hours of flapping in the wind loosened them up by morning.
That's when you truck camper shell it or sprinter van. Only thing that'll do in a storm like that in way of a tent is a Bivy sack.
Luke, I love to see a review of the 4 person tent. Thank for all your work.
Happy Father’s Day! Look forward to the larger size reviews. I’m 6’4” so this wouldn’t work. Looking for great quality like these from Teton. Any recommendations for this old guy?
Nothing to add about the tent, but thanks for your time and excellent commentary. Appreciate it.
Happy Father's day Luke! I hope to see your review on the larger version. You always do a great review and can't wait for your next adventure and review
I have the 3400 backpack and love it and I use the 5500 for winter camping. The waist belt was smaller on the 5500, so I made an extension out of paracord. I don't know where I found the info but if contact Teton Sports they will sell you an extension. They charged me $6 including shipping.
Just received the 3 person this week will post thoughts when I get to set it up .
I have a 4 person version from 4 years ago. I love the tent. 100% waterproof with amazing ventilation. I do use aftermarket aluminum stakes. You can stakeout the fly on my version but the included bungee attachments were insufficient. Some added 550 cord solved that. The only thing I didn’t like was the yellow color. All in all I would definitely recommend this tent! Awesome review!
You should partner with someone like Teron or Onetigris and make an TOGR line of products where you can make sure things like "Where are the tie offs" can be addressed.
A Very Happy And Blessed Father's Day to You, Luke and All the other Dad's in your lives!💙🦸🏼♂️💙 GOD BLESS YOU ALL ABUNDANTLY!🙏🏻😇🙏🏻
Happy Father's Day to all the dads who are actually involved in raising their kids as well as others kids too!!!
Happy Fathers Day Luke, a great review as always ! Keep up the stellar work !
I scored this on Amazon for $56! I’m looking forward to backpacking with this. Thankfully I’m 5’2” and I don’t expect wet feet 😂
I’ve been a subscriber since right after you created your channel. You seem to be a pretty honest guy but you say things are bought with your own money. That’s just simply not true they’re bought with patreon money. You should acknowledge that and thank your patreon supporters. Because you’re making out very well for yourself because of them.
I have the 3 person version of this and I love it!
Looking forward to the 2 person tent review. Thoughts on using tarp clips to pull out the bottom for ventilation? Thanks for all you do.
I have their -35 deer hunter sleeping bag and I'm using it in -26.
.
I'm seriously going to look at this company first for my outdoor needs.
Happy Father’s Day!
It’s a nice tent but everyone at Teton must be your size , I’m 6 foot and 175 # and it’s snug , may give it to my grandson.
I have a geartop 2 persons and it’s great also and budget friendly.
Ventilation is great on the larger ones. They come with 4 vents, the ability to stake the fly away from the body
I’d like to see the 2 person version reviewed and wonder if that would be big enough for someone over 6 feet tall.
Maybe they're looking to take over the scouting market? Kids might really enjoy that, and the parents would love knowing their youngins are in a quality tent!
Love your channel buddy. Have or can you make a video on your top picks based on your extensive test knowledge for each season and larger size tents for every budget category please. Thank you.
Luke did that watch come with the tent? Baller! Happy Father's Day Luke!
Happy Father's Day Luke. Way too small for me but smaller folks may enjoy. Nice review, thanks.
Luke, just bought a one person naturehike for $70 dollar's, because I think of the color red,,and purple tent also all other colors were $100dollars..But looks very much like this one your testing now...mine is 37 inches wide tho.Like all your videos
I bet this tents price goes up bye like 100 bucks now just cause it’s got thr Luke seal of approval.
Can you share your strategy for finding gear on sale? Ebay, mfg website, Google alerts? Thanks Luke.
Great review, Luke. Have ever considered reviewing the sunglasses you've worn on your adventures?
Happy fathers day Luke.
Im still using the improved one man combag shelter, milsurp. Great little tent, but it is LITTLE and it is HEAVY. And it failed my winter test, even though my sleeping bag was adequate, the air inside the tent got so cold the air coming in the tiny peephole of my mummy bag was enough to freeze my nose everytime it poked out. Thinking about cutting some tarp to cover the mesh on the tent for winter and see if that improves things, just gotta stop ALL the warm air coming off my body from escaping out the top of the tent. Still, i should upgrade to something lighter but larger, but what?
Consider some DIY third layer for winter seasons. You can cover it partially and it will make a difference.
I saw some comments of people doing these upgrades to their tents.
The fabric will be affordable but it will require some work. Obviously it will add some weight as well.
First and foremost Luke Happy Father's Day to you young man
Accent video as always and take care
Could you test the Magellan king peak 2 its a backpacking tent you can pick up at academy for under $100 and has two vestibules and vents
you really can get a teton sports tent from marlboro with the rewards points. ive been looking at it myself
Been looking at this one . Thanks
Happy father's day my friend. Be well.
Hey Luke, have you ever tried the Naturehike 1p tent? I think its called the spyder.
Thanks Luke 👍
have you ever try swags tents and swag bags you might like them or at least review
Good review! Steering clear of that one.
Really enjoyed Luke ty😊
Hey luke, are you able to get hold of the oex phoxx 2 v2 tent in the states? If so give it a go. For the price it's an excellent tent and I would love to see your review of it.
Teton sports is a budget brand.
Try Alps Mountaineering for quality reasonably priced gear...
.. Cheers to you. ..
I believe that you also liked the Naturehike Mongar two, which do you think is better and why?
I ordered a Teton backpack a few years ago, and was concerned about the status of my order. So I called and nobody was available so it sent me to voicemail after a while. I hung up. I called back like 30 minutes later. VM again, hung up again.
To my surprise, I get a call the next day from a woman because they noticed I called a couple times.
Excellent customer service.
Thanks for sharing brother
I'm 6' 2", what do you have for me?
Specs in link shows 80" X 30", Not so ?
This tent design reminds me of the mongar 2. Did you ever review it? I’ve only had a chance to set mine up for backyard camp outs, I haven’t been able to test it in any type of real weather. I’m curious how it might perform, it’s large enough to fit me my wife and my 11-year-old son, I would like to be able to trust it for a backpacking trip. It packs smaller and is lighter than my scorpion 3 person tent. I’m curious if the 3 person version teton would be a good option as well.
He did review the Mongar 2, I don’t remember how long ago it was but I actually bought one as a result of Luke’s good review. I used my Mongar 2 on a backpacking adventure in the Ocala National Forest, rained all night long, it performed great!
@@dniemi58 I remember he did a set up video and maybe a test night, I never saw the actual review, I’ll check again, thanks.
Nice video
i wonder how long it takes for the price to rise now that quite some ppl will buy it after this review.
@theoutdoorgearreview
Hi Luke,
Would you recommend this tent over the mongar 2
Sounds like a good tent, until to have to go inside it.
Luke and Susie hope you got some time to together
Not a tent that would sell very well in the Netherlands with an average length for males of 6 ft. I am 6'4" myself
I’m 6.3 😢
Yeh a lot of people make this tent and do it for a lot less then 4lbs jeez for a one person ouch
I've always been a fan of Teton. I mean, with a name like Teton, you know you can trust it.
For those who don't know, Teton is french for nipple/breast.
Yea man, i have figured out, i'm about 6 feet tall, and When i lay down, my pillow and how i sleep with my arms under the pillow, takes an extra 6-8" of space, and i absolutely need 1 foot of space in front of my head, and 1 foot space at my feet. If the tent was 8 feet long that would be bare minimum for me. Even 7 feet long, while i do fit, is very uncomfortable and i can't sleep like that. especially with condensation it's a nightmare. keep those walls away! lol
in holland u pay 400 dollars :(
Not stealthy, so it doesn't matter much.
don't care if I buy it? I'm over 6 feet tall!
Because of condensation your clothes and sleeping bag will be wet? This tent has no pros. This single con makes it unusable.
HAPPY FATHERS DAY 👍
That size is interesting. I have the Mountain Ultra 2 for car camping and I think that thing is HUGE for a 2 person tent. My partner and I joke that it's BARELY smaller than our Kelty Trail Ridge 3.
Happy Father's day my friend Luke and thank you for sharing your thoughts and adventures testing different equipment and sharing the facts and truth about the equipment.
I wouldn't go smaller then a 2 person version for a single person plus gear, or better yet a 3 person version
Always divide the person capacity by 2 for comfortably.
Honest question, is there any benefits to certain colors? I personally don't like bright colors because they stick out but was wondering if anyone had any other feelings or ideas
This is great cuz it pushes the prices down for big agnes, nemo, and msr, all these other companies that are trying to charge us $5-600 for a dam tent.
Getting smaller also because of the demands from the Ultralight community
I like mine so much I bought two two person tents too , my only complaint is the colors are awful. My gray one looks like it glows in the dark green woods even at night
Yes, three in total, a single for myself, and a two person for my wife and I . And a two person for my two kids. All are gray/ white
I very recently acquired the Mountain Ultra 4-person unit, I've used it (almost) every weekend thus far in and around Central PA and the surrounding DMV territories. I 100% agree with every single pro you mentioned about this single-person unit; I'll gladly mention that due to the increased size of my bigger unit, even in rainy/humid conditions, condensation has been totally eliminated from the equation and is not a concern - quite literally ZERO build up anywhere. Thanks for reviewing this! I've been looking into the single-person unit for solo backpacking on some weekends and think it will do just nicely
Can't wait until you test the 4 person version, I am a large guy ( 6'4",260) and I use an xl size cot and have been searching for something other than the massively heavy canvas wall tent to take camping.
I was thinking the same thing. Of the. 2 man is good, won't the 4 man be good too?
Checkout unboxing & detailed review of decathlon MH 100 Fresh Black Tent - 3 person ua-cam.com/video/BhsUAuEgTfs/v-deo.html
6’4 guy here, my girl and I have the three person tent version of the tent and it was perfect for us. Dog was even comfortable inside.
Great tent but I am 6ft 1inch it is sad they don't have a option for tall folks..
Great review Luke thanks so much bro
Great video as always. I like it when you include metric conversions, any chance you could go back to doing that?
looks like a cheaper version of an msr hubba hubba
The thumbnail for this vid caught my eye as I have a very similar tent from another company which is the Atom from New Zealand company Zempire. Similar size 1p tent that is slightly roomier than the Litefighter LF1. It has a 5000mm fly with 75D ripstop fabric, a 10,000mm floor and weighs just under 4lbs. I’ve seen it for sale at REI for US $179. I’ve used mine in heavy rain and never had a leak. The fly is away from the inner mesh so the airflow is excellent. The Teton looks good value but I can definitely recommend the Atom.
I love your thoughts. I love my Eureka tent. I love it from the boy scout days. I love your hiking vidoes
Absolutely the best tent I've ever owned is my Eureka Expedition tent. Never had one problem with it. All seasons.
Best tent ever
Just get the two person tent instead of the one person tent….
That should give you enough room to avoid the condensation that would form on the one person tent
So happy I stumbled across this tent. Just moved to NC and I've been looking for an all mesh tent for the hot summers here. Specifically for car camping, So weight doesn't matter. Just wish this tent came in some Earth tones. Not a bright color tent kinda guy. Might get the grey.
I have a thick, heavy canvas shell 0 degree sleeping bag from Teton I keep for possible blackouts or just extra cold Winter nights. It'll basically cook you. Happy with it.
Tent is designed for short people.
Presumably in China? (Average height 5'7").
Shouldn't be too much of a shocker!
I guess with me being 6'2", this isn't the tent for me.....Out of curiosity, do you think that you'll be reviewing the Samaya brand tents anytime?
A marble and a guy line with a stake would fix that condensation issue and pull the fly out from the body...dirt simple fix, but I agree you shouldn't have to, they should know better. That's a fair trade off though for the price.
Hey Luke, happy Father’s Day! Great job as always. We really appreciate how you take your time to get everything right. Keep up the good work. The funny thing about that Amazon review is, they actually did have a rewards program for Marlboro smokers years ago. I think one of the prizes was a tent. My dad got me a Swiss Army knife one Christmas!
The amazon review had me rolling!! You should keep including those funny ones haha!!
G'day Luke, great to see value for money, I'm impressed, however, there's a lotta folks around 6 ft and above. As one of those, oh well, just another sale they wont get. Cheers Duke.
Looks like a great tent for the price. I do not mind a small tent; I actually prefer it in most cases. If I am car camping, I use my Kodiak Canvas tent. As far as the tent stakes goes, who cares, I can buy the cheap ultralight ones from walmart. The thing that will stop me from buying this tent is the ventilation/condensation issue. I do not mind sleeping in a small space but getting wet in the wilderness sux, drying gear can be difficult, and it can be a big safety concern.
And I'm 5'11" and unsure what to do 🤣😭 I've had my eye on this for a while now and the Snugpak Ionosphere. Can't make up my mind.
Can't wait to see your next review because I am 6' 4" tall and weigh 250 pounds and I would love to see that review
