  • This is my Company Review of Teton Sports and what I have experienced after using and reviewing their products since they opened their doors.
This is a new series and in each episode I’m going to review an outdoor related company and share what I like, don’t like, what I think of their products and if possible, what it has been like interacting with those companies.
I will also share additional insights which have been shared with me from you all.
The first video in this series involved MSR and in this episode I will be reviewing Teton Sports which is an outdoor company that produces Budget tents, sleeping bag, sleeping pads, cots and more.

I do car camping 2-4 times a year. I have the Mountain Ultra 4p tent and Leef 0 sleeping bag. I did tons of research before buying from Teton and I’m glad I did. The products are awesome and cost 2-2.5 times less than comparable products! No issues so far. I plan to buy more gear from them, I’m sold on their product for my needs.

Hello Luke! Thanks for the review! Just took the Teton sports Celsius XXL sleeping bag camping in cold conditions over the Halloween weekend, I have to say I got the best sleep camping I've ever gotten. My husband just bought one for himself after seeing the great result I got with it. We both have Teton backpacks. I just purchased the Scout3400, he has the Explorer4000 and he loves it. I'll have to use mine before I can say if I like it or not. We love the channel! Thanks so much!

I have an Teton Oasis 1200 Backpack that I got 6 years ago. It had been in many mountain bike crashes and on many trips around the country and it is still in fantastic shape. No holes, zippers are still perfect. It has been fantastic.

Love your gear reviews. I am an old camper and my friends are old as well. I use an iKamper roof top tent, but for my friends who have some trouble getting on and off the ground a cot system works much better. For those who want to be off the ground, I recommend the following Teton products. 1) Outfitter XXL Camp Cot with pivot pin, 2) Vista 1-Person Quick Tent (for XXL cot), 3) Elite extended length rainfly for Vista 1-Person tent, 4) Comfort Lite XXL Self-inflating Sleeping Pad. The extended length rain fly covers the hight of the cot legs down to the ground. There are UA-cam videos of people using this system even in cold winter snow. My 60+ year old friends find this set up quite comfortable.

Great review as always! I've owned a few teton products. The only issue I've had so far is with one of the 2 person "pop-up" tents. The rainfly ripped down near the attachement point at the foot of the tent. They sent me a brand new rain fly within a week of contacting them. Additionally, I own their NEGATIVE 35 degree deer hunter bag. Granted, I've only had it down to about 3 degrees f, but it is by the far the warmest, most comfortable, well made bags I've ever owned!

I bought Teton Sports XL sleeping bags for my family for winter camping. I believe they are rated for -25 degrees fahrenheit. We used them in the Rocky Mountains with a low temperature of -10 and felt warm and cozy in the morning.
I love the products I have from Teton. I would add to your review that the products are great for "car camping," but probably not light enough for hiking with.

I have a Teton XXL cot and 2 of the plastic plugs located in the ends of the metal tubes fell out and I lost them, I emailed them and they sent me 6 not the 2 I requested and they followed up to see if I received them. This is very refreshing having dealt with other companies that could care less about customer service.

I bought a Teton sports pack as my first pack over 15 years ago. I still have it and it goes to everyone that wants to try backpacking with my for their first time. It’s adjustable and it fits all the creature comforts a Newb thinks they need on their maiden hikes. If they love backpacking they get a true fitted pack and carry the essentials. If not, no loss because it cost under $100 and goes to the next person who wants to moonlight as a backpacker. No complaints.

Appreciate these reviews by TOGR although I would like to add that many of these companies making outdoor products who report a USA address, use foreign labor and in many instances, materials. To me, this invites too many opportunities for failure of the product at inopportune moments in the field. In fact I have had to deal with the inconvenience, frustration and loss of time dealing with some major purchases from so-called good companies, much too often. My mantra is "you get what you pay for". Cheers.

The best way you can help a company out with quality control is to send them back their product with a letter explaining what was wrong with it. It's nice ifthey let you keep their failed items but it shows them nothing. I make formal wear. The only way I can address a problem is if I see it. The right thing to do would be send the item back with explanation. It will help them better. They don't want to lose any customers

The only Teton Sports product I've owned is one of their smaller backpacks, and I think it's around 15L, not sure. I will say that it was cheap, but well made and I trekked with it quite a bit back several years ago, and it held up beautifully. As for budget gear, you cant ask for more.

Hey Wolf I’m sorry to hear you had a bad Deer hunter. Just to set my experience with it, here goes. I’ve got both the Deer and Elk hunter and I’ve had NOTHING but INCREDIBLE experience’s with both I’ve slept in the Deer hunter down to 7 degrees on the Miracle Mile in Wyoming and was toasty warm. Both have more than generous room and I’m 6foot 5inches tall at 235 pounds. I always look forward to sleeping in either when it’s cold enough to use one of them. Seriously I can’t say enough good things about each of them. 👍hopefully it stays real cold over thanksgiving cuz we’re heading that way in the next couple weeks and I will have my elk hunter.

I’ll upgrade them eventually to lighter stuff but when you’re buying all your stuff initially I’m glad I went with Teton sports for what I did. I’ve always thought it was weird how they don’t seem to be a wider known brand. Seems like most of the other UA-camrs I follow have just been sleeping on them every time they do some budget oriented video.

I wonder if the size reduction trend is a consequence of weight reduction attempts in order to compete with the ultralight market?

    • @iceman857
      @iceman857 Рік тому +1

I doubt that. They would have to reduce weight a lot more and that would mean choosing different materials, which would increase costs. Maybe that was their thinking, but a competitive market analysis would tell them they don't have a chance competing on weight.

I've been waiting for a good sale to buy more, but each time they put on a sale, they also raise the prices, so the sale ends up being 10% instead of 20-30% as advertised. I wish they thought more of their repeat customers and were more transparent in their pricing policies.

I offroad and camp in remote areas. I have the Teton Sierra 12 canvas tent and two of their cots. I've had zero issues with the tent. It's survived -30C deep snow, +40C, deserts, torrential downpours. I don't agree it's budget gear. The tent is outfitter grade. I've had rivers of rain run under this tent and no issues/leaks. I've had one cot cross brace break. They replaced the cross brace. No questions asked, within a week.

My favorite tent of all time so far is actually from Alps Mountaineering (Lynx 2). I've been selecting It for multi day kayak and boat trips since 2011. I used it on the Upper Missouri Wild and Scenic Benton to Kipp (149 miles) in 2019 and this year on the 2022 Missouri River Rendezvous several 1 night camps along the river including what can only be described as a near miss by a tornado with hail falling g sideways. It was one of the tents that stood up to the wind and didn't leak. Many other blew flat and the wind was bad enough that it moved blew kayaks into the water! I'll be buying another when this one is finally done.

I commended on your post a while ago about Teton sports. I had a mishap with the mountain ultra where one of the poles snapped and tore through the tent and fly (my fault). Regardless, they sent me a brand new tent and it arrived a few days later. However one thing I have noticed that you mentioned is how their tents have been getting smaller. I first bought a mountain ultra 2 and the size was as small as my 1 person tent from another brand. I ended up with a mountain ultra 3 just for the added space.
PS: it's nice how you let the music play at the end of your videos.

As economical / budget gear goes Teton Sports delivers. I would say from my experiences, it would represent high value to low cost gear selection that won't break the bank. It is somewhat a back to the basics company, mostly conservative traditional, and trending a No Frills copy mode of well-established designs. It is good to hear reasonable evidence of the company standing behind product.

We bought the Ridgelight and we love this product. You cashed their site as they were sold out. Luke thank you for the honesty on the things you review. We value your opinion greatly. Say hello to your wife Susie from us. God bless you and keep you safe on your adventures. Sincerely Melvin Alejandro US Army Retired. Strength and Honor my friend

My girlfriend had an issue with her scout 3400L backpack. The pockets were sewn all crooked and couldn't fit a nalgene bottle, but mine could. She told contacted them and they were like tough luck call the website you purchased it from.

What's the song at the end? You should put music credits in the info! 🙂
On Teton Sports, I have the Mountain Ultra 3P tent and it has been great this summer during 3 outings, including one light, but constant rain event, with no issues. I also have three 0deg C bags (2 Jr and one regular for me). The kids bags were good enough at ~30 deg F that they slept soundly. I however did not during that first low-temp campout with my old bag and purchased the regular version for myself - at 28 deg F on the next campout slept cozy in a 3 season coleman fast pitch 4P tent. They are budget, they are good. The 3P tent is small and light enough that I strap it to the bottom of my pack no problem for an outing with a kid in tow that likes space. The bags are warm IMO but rather bulky compared to lighter, more expensive alternative. Definitely a good place to recomend people start when camping.

Nothing wrong with budget friendly gear, and a company that backs up their products.

Every time I hear companies do well in customer service it makes my recent experience with a Kuhl rain jacket look that much worse. I bought direct from Kuhl, rain resistance failed after wearing once in a moderate rain for 10 mins. I was soaked. I emailed them and they said it was too old to warranty (it was 3 months old!) and said here’s a $40 coupon to buy more junk from them. Unbelievable.

I wish I could share your sentiments about teton sports but, I don't. on my 2 person. I had 3 poor examples! All had crappy zippers. All had poorly applyed pu coating on floor that literally comes off and allows water to come up from underneath. One I can understand.even bigger names have a bad one slip thru. But 3 in a row? they sent me 2 more and all had the same issues. I will however say the warranty and customer service was excellent! And that's good when they are selling a product with this bad of quality control. Maybe I got a bad batch. Bad luck? Either way I would never recommend this product.

Hello fellow TOGR fans. Can anyone tell me the name of the backpack Luke talked about in one of his episodes that is around $85 to $90 dollars that he said he likes and can't go wrong with buying it? Was it the Teton Sports?

Too many companies that sell on Amazon get bought by Amazon. Sometimes Amazon makes cheaper copies of their better sellers through the companies they own. Buyer beware.

I have had great experiences with Teton, my only complaint is more just silly and irritating. I hate the color of my ultra mountain tent’s, yes I have three. In the gray color it is so out of place in the woods, beach, campground, I wish it was a true earth tone, brown, o.d.green. But the color of my Teton backpacks, and sleeping bags are great

I've been sleeping on the teton sports xl cot, xl cot pad, pillow, and xxl celsius sleeping bag for the past week straight. Flat out I sleep better on this than my actual bed. No complaints at all. I will say this. They don't really advertise all of the features of their products well. I find new stuff on my sleeping bag all the time. I just realized it had a pouch built into it.

I have a couple of their inflatable pillows, both work well and still hold air after a few years use. I also have their Explorer 4000 backpack and have taken it hiking (with at least 50lbs of gear in it) and on multiple backwoods camping trips. It performed great and still looks pretty much new. Budget friendly, quality, good customer service and excellent warranty... what more could a person ask for.

I trust your reviews. This tent, or the two-person version, have many quality attributes. There is one negative … it is made in China. Call me Xenophobic, but I don’t think it is irrational to not want to give money that is being used, in part, to improve their military at the same time publicly threatening to harm US interests, or to threaten our allies, knowing that any military action taken against them would (or should) involve direct military action by us to protect our allies.
