    I don't know where else we would get all this valuable information about these unspoken cameras without your channel. Another great review about another classic, thank you, and much appreciated!

    The Nikon F100 SLR has non auto load leader feature, which you can change in custom settings. I think the gain is if you load a roll for future use, you can change you mind later if you haven't started it. I've actually done this on my F100. I thought I would shoot a roll and just put it in camera but never clicked shutter to spool it. A week later I grabbed camera, saw E still on LCD and remembered I had not started the roll. I ended up swapping out that roll for something with higher ISO for the need I had that day. I like the feature.

    • @themikepadua
      @themikepadua  8 років тому

      Interesting. Is this something common to Nikons?

    • @EDHBlvd
      @EDHBlvd 8 років тому

      +Mike Padua not sure. My F100 is my only Nikon with auto film advance.

    • @touristbombs
      @touristbombs 7 років тому

      My Nikon F4 is this way as well, You must load, and then press the shutter in order for the camera to grab the leader.

      very good point!
      I Love my F100 as well. And Im not sure if im right here, but I see picture samples of other compact cameras such as this 35Ti and Contax and so, and the shots look too sharp to me. Lacking that film softness that i love. And im trying to stay away from the digital look [otherwise, whats the point of shooting film?]. To make my point even clearer- I dont like 120mm film, as image samples from this medium format feel like digital. Maybe the colors are nice and filmy, but the DOF, the sharpness...it just feels in many cases that this shot was taken off a DSLR. And i dislike that.
      Therefore, I wish i could find a compact film camera that will act the same as the F100.
      *p.s- i am aware that i may be wrong here, as the film softness i love may be actually acquired by my scan process itself, or from the lens i use [in that case, maybe those fixed lenses on the T35i and Contax or so- are too sharp to my liking...]

    • @vangstr
      @vangstr 7 років тому

      @eladbari mistakingly you are wrong here with the comparison of film to looking like digital. Analog is purely based on film and lens. If you're images are looking like digital then reconsider your processing and scanning. 120 and large format offers more tones than 135 could simply due to size. You may agree to disagree here but we both cannot lie to the majority of readers out there who truly love analog and see the difference or those seeking info on the medium.

  • @ghw7192
    @ghw7192 7 років тому +7

    This camera is on my wish list, but not until I can find one at better than current prices. It's difficult to justify paying $400+ for the Nikon when I have a collection of made in Germany Rollei 35's and 35S's that are smaller and don't depend on electronics Great video, though, and you told me a lot of things I didn't know!

    • @themikepadua
      @themikepadua  7 років тому +2

      ghw7192 they pop up for less sometimes but we are very much in an economic point & shoot bubble at the moment.

    • @vangstr
      @vangstr 7 років тому

      @ghw7192 At the current price hikes of (PS) point and shoots, I'll keep on buying more F5's since they are way more versatile, cheaper and durable than a majority of used PS out there.

    Thanks for the review. You mentioned it does not have exposure lock, wondering if you use the option for spot metering if this remains? Also can you lock focus...half press to focus and recompose? Anywho just bought mine and it should be here in two days:)

    Tell me
    I got this device in my hands. And when I try to shoot something at close range. The arrow of the distance is closer to infinity. And never shows a value less than 10 feet. Even if I come very close.
    I already did the reset.
    I can set for example 1.3 feet in manual mode. And I see that the lens is pushing more. Than in the same situation in the automatic mode.
    Is it a malfunction or am I doing something wrong?

  • @Sebochan
    @Sebochan 5 років тому

    Hi Mike! So how is the camera after 3years? Is it malfunctioning already? I saw some posts on twitter that it malfunctions a lot. Planning to buy one, but i have to know if it is built to last.

    19:44 the frame lines are also lit by led. If the camera is set to have the flash off by default it wont turn the frame line led light on automatically anymore. If the flash is set to on by default the frame line led light with come on automatically when the scene is too dark. Or at least thats what I have noticed with the 2 I have owned.

    i used to have a Contax T2 camera long time ago and the problem i had with that camera was the Flash and one day i noticed it had some small dust inside the flash bulb and it did not work so it was going to had cost me load of money to get it repaired and their are no main Contax Repair service in uk and i ended up selling the camera

    I may have missed this in the video but if you set pre-focus distance does the lens move to that upon setting it, half press of the shutter or full press?

    • @themikepadua
      @themikepadua  6 років тому

      In all honesty it's been a really long time since I've had this camera, but I seem to recall when you preset your focus the lens moves into position after the full shutter press.

      motoramps I would choose Klasse

    • @motoramps

      thanks Mike, I am basically looking for faster focus between the two.

    • @themikepadua
      @themikepadua  7 років тому +1

      motoramps that's a tough one. Neither are fast in that department, though neither are particularly slow either. The analog dials on the Nikon are pretty but not super useful. The klasse is much more ergonomic and easy to handle.

  • @mintcakes7232

    The reason that the "fake panorama" mode masks off the top and bottom of the frame is because, back in the day, photo processing machines recognized the black bars as panorama mode and automatically printed that frame on panorama paper. (Something like 4 inch by 7 1/2 inch rather than 4 by 6 inch...) I have never used that switch on my 35Ti, and I check it often to make sure that it wasn't bumped going into or out of the case. [If I want to shoot a panorama, I'll just use my phone rather than a point & shoot...]

    • @themikepadua
      @themikepadua  6 років тому

      Mintcakes i say fake panorama merely because it uses less of the negative as opposed to more of it

    • @mintcakes7232
      @mintcakes7232 6 років тому

      Mike Padua I agree, it's sort of pointless. It was really a "consumer" feature for people who got their film developed at Walgreens. Not sure why Nikon thought it was a desirable feature for a premium camera. Maybe they figured the market was rich non-photographers (and serious photographers would buy SLRs). I just wanted to explain the way the panorama masking worked...

    That top panel is one of the most unique designs on a camera. What do you think about this one versus the Fuji Klasse? I am almost pissed off about how damn expensive the Fuji is :/

    • @themikepadua
      @themikepadua  6 років тому +1

      newpixeldude the top plate is unique, and absolutely beautifulyl designed. It’s just not exactly useful for a point and shoot, since all I really did with it was point and shoot and not fiddle with settings or look at dials. Not knocking the camera at all, it is amazing. If I had to pick one over the other, I’d pick the Klasse, but that’s not taking into consideration cost.

      Except in size, speed, portability, noise, and choice and availability of film stocks. But it's absolutely a nice camera with a spectacular lens that offers a bigger negative.
