I'm in the market for one of these after talking to a couple GR1 owners who talk about how often the Ricoh's fail. That said, I don't love the VF on my Klasse S. Still it is a good camera and very compact. Ergonomics are awesome. It is my analogue X100S.
+Rediscover Film I don't love the VF, but I also don't mind it. I don't feel that it's unusually small. I keep bringing up the Leica Minilux because if you've ever seen the VF on that thing, it is crazy small.
how does the viewfinder compare in size to the stylus epic vf?

I think I prefer the Klasse S to other P&S cameras. I really like the results it produces and the lens is excellent.
Danvil feature-wise, they are super hard to beat!

So, I’ve seen so many reviews for you and here is the thing.. I NEED help from a professional like you in making a choice.
It terms of lens quality (sharpness, contrast & color rendition) .. who wins in those:
35mm - 40mm
1- Leica minilux
2- Contax t2
3- Nikon 35ti
28mm
1- Fuji Klasse w
2- Ricoh gr1v
3- Nikon 28ti
All the above now are in the same price range, so don’t count price into the comparison.

I'm going to be very honest here: If you took photos of the same exact scene, using all of the cameras you listed above, and showed me prints of the resulting photo from each camera to compare, I highly doubt I would be able to tell them apart. They're all going to be excellent. I would worry more about the features each camera has, and what you may or may not find useful with your shooting style. One thing i want to add: I've had multiple Contax T2s that had focusing issues, so I would personally stay way from those.

Hey Mike - Great review, is there a meter reading in the view finder? If not, how do you know if you're under or over exposed? Thanks
+bko90 Thanks for checking it out! The viewfinder only shows the shutter speed that the camera chooses--there's no meter reading per se--being a point and shoot with no full manual control, you just have to assume the meter is accurate.
Good review but I feel showing some example photos you've taken would have made it better. Of course, I can look elsewhere for them but within the same video would make sense. Anyway, nice explanations dude! Really want this camera
I appreciate you watching! In later videos I do include some photos but I've always been a bit hesitant to do so, only because in the context of a compressed photo in a UA-cam video, the picture could literally be from any camera and no one would ever know. I tried to make it more about the camera rather than my pictures if that makes sense. BUT, it also makes plenty of sense that someone would want to see photos! It's a great camera, but a little harder to come by nowadays. Let me know if you ever end up getting one.
Hello Mike, have you found a good place to get these serviced? The flash on my no longer charges up (probably a simple capacitor or electrolytic issue) and looking to get it repaired.
Nippon Photoclinic in NY is the first place I'd contact for this kind of camera/problem
Regarding the lens movement/delay when focusing...what happens if you have the AFL activated? I'm assuming there's no delay, like you'd see with zone focusing. Thx.
There is still a delay--the assembly still has to physically travel to the predetermined focus spot.
Wow, just checked the price of them...in the 2 years since this video was posted they've gone from $400 to over $1000...beats the stock market!!!!

Most likely the Fuji based on form factor. The Nikon doesn’t really have any must-have features that put it ahead for me. You can’t lose either way, though!

They are the same in every way except for the focal length of the lens

I think the Klasse W is a better all around camera - great lens, more features, better build. But the price difference between a Yashica T4 and a Klasse W is absolutely huge.

Interesting.... My Klasse S lens assembly moves after I press the shutter.
Custom function 4 changes that.

Mark Union depends on the model, but I would Talk to Lezot’s Complete Camera Center in Williston VT and see if they can work in your model, or if they can’t, to ask for a recommendation.

Raychristofer thanks for commenting man! Very fair point indeed. The way I look at it is this: it’s a camera review, not a “my pictures” review. If I took pictures with a completely different camera, you wouldn’t even be able to tell in a UA-cam video! BUT I hear you, that’s why in some later videos I do include photos for a fuller experience 👍
Both this and the Nikon 35TI, seem like serious point and shoot overkill for what they are. At the prices they are selling for, there are so many infinitely more capable 35mm cameras available. My first point and shoot, a Nikon L35AF2, set me back a whopping 4 dollars, less than a roll of TriX. Plenty of money left in the budget for film. And I won’t be heartbroken if it breaks. I would if this one was to break.

Yes I know you can thrift them for pennies but they’re becoming less and less common in today’s market with how demand has skyrocketed.
Mike Padua Yes, I was thrilled to find for $4. My mother found one for me before she passed away, that had the case, but it didn’t work. Now I have a working model, a case, and a parts unit. Thrifting is hit or miss, but sometimes when it’s a hit, it’s a home run. I’ve seen the Fuji sell for 400 dollars, and the 35TI for $700. Absolutely nuts.

Honestly, things got nuts. I remember getting a Klasse S in 2013 for $180 and if I recall correctly this W was $250 at the time I bought it.

@@themikepadua UPDATE: I got one! I showed up from a UK seller on ebay so I didn't need to pay any extra import taxes! - happy to have got it for 500, almost half what I expected!
I think everybody needs to get off the dick of the contax t2. I bet my left testicle if you shot the same image on both cameras and told somebody which is which nobody will be able to tell. The klasse has a max shutter speed of 1000s at f16 and 500th of a sec at 2.8 the t2 has 500s max and you cant use 2.8 unless the camera deems it necessary due to low light. T2 looks great but lets be real it does not even romotely come close to the klasse
