    The flash: You can disable it by configuring the camera into Flash Cancel mode by default, Page 80 of the manual. Im gonna go ahead and gripe that the in depth review didn't seem to include manual reading.

      As they say, when everything else fails, read the damn manual!

    Where would you rate the Nikon 35ti amongst the other big name premium compacts?! BTW if you haven't seen the video shooting this bad boy check it out here: ua-cam.com/video/La8ghQlMoVg/v-deo.html

    Flash off
    1) hold down 'set' button and switch camera to 'p'
    2) change numbers in lcd with 'mode' and 'set' buttons to read '01 1 01'
    3) depress shutter release button half way

    Good rundown on one of my fave cameras.
    But you’re wrong-you can set the 35Ti to leave the flash off by programming the binary code for Flash Off, as I have. Then you turn the flash on by pushing the Flash button on the front.
    Read the manual.

    This camera is not sought after for ANY of those reasons. Let's face it, it's that beautiful display on the top!

  • @bayfield95

    You can actually program the camera using a numerical code which turns the flash off completely! The only down side is that if you want to use the flash you must hold the flash button down whilst shooting. It is basically the reverse setup of how it comes as standard but I very rarely use flash so it works much better like that for me personally

    At video 9:14 "the flash itself will actually never turn off" - Not quite, the flash will fire when it deems it necessary. Also, you can actually release either of the flash buttons as long as you hold the shutter release down. So basically remember, the flash is very smart and beautifully integrated with the Matrix metering...

    B = Bulb T = Time. Cameras with B require you to hold the shutter open and the shutter closes when you release. Cameras with T open the shutter on the first press and close it on the second press. Some cameras have B and T speeds.

  • @analoguetravelogue2677
    @analoguetravelogue2677 5 років тому +2

    Nice video, man! The difference between BULB and TIME mode is that with T mode you press once to start, and once more to stop. It means you don't need to hold the shutter button whilst it's exposing.

    I recently bought a 35Ti, and I’m not sure how I feel about it yet. Only 3 rolls through it, but it seems to go through batteries pretty quickly, and my first roll had a date imprint on all the frames. I would think it would do that just off the frame based on what I understand the placement of the “display” inside the film bay.
    I like it, but I’m not entirely certain if it’s my bestie just yet…

    Great review and I love the analog display on this camera! Unless you're trying to be discreet on the street, it's actually a cool idea that flash is automatic because it enables you to use wider apertures during the day.

      This is a refined camera, but there are many inexpensive alternatives out there. I have featured the Pentax PC35AF (which also has a 2.8 lens) and the Olympus Infinity Stylus on my channel recently. One of my favorites is the Nikon Lite Touch AF (also known as Nikon AF600) - Video link here: ua-cam.com/video/n60T52yD0Yc/v-deo.html

    • @gottanikoncamera
      @gottanikoncamera 5 років тому

      It’s not a hack. The manual covers how you can program a binary code using the two buttons by the viewfinder to turn the flash off. It’s a factory designed feature.
      He just didn’t read the manual.

    I remember that camera from back in the day, when it was sold in stores, but it was so crazy expensive like it was made out of pure gold - over $2000 if I remember correctly , same as for its wider sibling, the 28ti. Back than, you could buy two Nikon FM2's new out of the box with cheap 50/1,8 primes for the price of this little dinky camera alone...

    • @gottanikoncamera
      @gottanikoncamera 5 років тому

      The flash button is there for two reasons: if you have it programmed to disable the flash, pushing the Flash button turns it on for the one exposure.
      If you have the camera set to default to flash when determined by the Matrix meter. Pushing the Flash button turns off the flash for one exposure.

    The fact that it 's fully electronics and high price, I would have to pass. In fact, you could get a similar output from a cheaper Contax T or Rollei 35. The latter is fully mechanical except for the light meter.

    Very interesting and good video - thanks! From what I have seen here, if you gave one of these to me as a gift, then I would not decline it; however, I don't think I would trouble anybody who is selling a Nikon 35Ti, even for $10. What is the battery, by the way?

    Many years ago, I decided to buy a PnS camera, so I bought both the Contax T2 and the Nikon 35Ti. I used both. I ran a serious lens resolution test on both lenses. The T2 has better resolution wide open (when much of the Program settings use, and is more even across the image. The 35Ti has better maximum resolution in the image center at many stops. Neither camera has a lens to match the Konica Hexar AF. The controls on the T2 are fewer, but they are logical and easy to use. The Nikon has a multi-level menu which operates many features, most of which are never used. You cannot actually use that menu without the camera manual in hand, so you never really learn to access much of the nonsense anyway. The analogue data dials in the cluster on top of the body are too small for many folks to easily see, so it is mostly useless. All of the little control buttons are flush with the body, so they are difficult to use. (Later in the 35Ti model run, Nikon changed the buttons to make them more usable.) Answer to the title question: No, the Nikon 35Ti is not the best high class 35mm PNS camera. I sold mine and keep the T2.
