Please Dean, when you do the rebuild, show us a great deal of the work involved. I don't think I'm alone in liking long videos. For those of us who are now armchair mechanics, our kick is seeing the ins and outs of what makes things tick. Really looking forward to this one.
I love Vice Grip Garage for this very reason, even if I usually end up falling asleep halfway through I come back to finish the rest of the video later
Dean, hands down bruv, climbed to one of my favorite go to channels. I suffer quite bad with my mental health and my survival instinct to calm myself down is always to watch or re-watch one of your many amazing vids man. I already had a pretty decent mechanical knowledge but I know a lot more theory now than I did before, so I have many things to thank you for! You're one of the reasons why I decided to splash out a whole months wage on a 2006 CLK 320 Soft-top and I'm way more confident with it's internals than I would be if I hadn't spent so many hours watching your channel! Love bro x
Hi Tom, thanks for the great message! Really happy that my videos can help you and others gain confidence in doing things themselves. Hope the CLK doesn’t give you too much trouble ❤️
That oil leak is most likely blown oil cooler lines. It's a common issue with the original cooler, there is an updated version with better lines. Also, it's a dry sump system so you can't check the oil level while it's cold. Drain it all and refill with the correct amount. Overfilling is really bad.
Yeah unless the cooler was completely ignored too they don’t normally cause you to loose a catastrophic amount….bearings locking up is normally over rev when cold on these….
No matter how old it is, it is still as stylish as if it was only one year old. I hope you manage to fix it like everyone else and I look forward to the new video for this car.
Dean your ok you are in the brotherhood of cars well done and welcome to the club... If you weren't we wouldn't have anything to watch Keep up the great work John
Nice car Dean, should be a walk in the park as you’ve done a V8 before!! The RS4 engine rebuild is why I watch your videos, that was interesting to watch, especially as I now own one!!
Hi deen the only person who can built any top engine is u and then two Asian lads who do UA-cam u guys are the best salvage mechanic keep up the good work 👍🏾
Wow what a project this is going to be, looking forward to this one dean, longer in-depth vids please!!, A cracking choice, roll on part 2, nice one Dean.
Can't wait to see the results. Looks like a good buy. I made the Quattro TV commercials when that was built. Now I have a 2ltr m2 8j TT. I was the first to drive one at the factory in Bavaria c1997/8 I think. I wish I had your skills!
Oh Dean we all suffer from the same disease 🤣. Be afraid very afraid, dry sump ,belts on the wrong side ,lots of body work to pull and absolutely no room to work. Will love to watch your new adventure ✨️.
Ricky at RE performance has done a buyers guide on R8s and he mentioned the oil lines are known for going, especially the early models with black steel pipes. Bet the oil leak is from a blown oil line? Then WeBuyanycar ignored the red oil light?
The RS4 was a brilliant project that you just kept going at till it was sorted. Sure this will be as good and probably better - looking forward to you getting stuck into this amazing engine - with your previous experience of the RS4 sure it will up and running before too long👍
Best thing for seized motorcycle engines , surprisingly is brake fluid , one of the absolute best penetrating oils to drop down the plug-holes. gets to the rust on the rings & bore.
Wonderful car. I have driven one of the very first R8s for a whole weekend and tested it on several hillclimb tracks here in Germany. All I had to pay for was the petrol. That was about somewhere north of 800€ XD. I used this experience to implement my knowledge of the car handling into my R8 real feel mod for GTR Evolution, an old sim. Later when I supported the development of Project Cars 1 (another racing game) I tested it on the Nordschleife. It´s like a fine tailored suit. It sleek, doesn´t get in your way and looks noble. Imho it doesn´t have much of a character like a Ferrari, but its a proper car that wont let you down in the frame of its intended purpose.
Great content thanks. If it’s any help car needs to have run up to temp to check oil level and then left for 2 mins. Obviously you can’t do this at the mo! There are two flexi oil lines on the passenger side rear behind the liner that go to a cooler. Maybe one of these has failed. Good luck!
ALL the best on the repairs i was the 2nd to your bid on the car and i must say it looks like a nice car I've been waiting for a black manual car on copart for a while but i had the wife looking over my shoulder and so i got to the price where i thought there was enough room for repair money i.e replacement engine or with the listing saying water damage i thought it would be heads of and sort the bent valves out when turned the computer on and seen the title a knew it was that car i was bidding on so all the best
Awwwww Dean that was so sad and I thought my drug and alcohol problem was bad ☹️ but funny 😂, wow give me your addiction any day lol 😂 what a car 😳 spectacular looking and I have a feeling it’s gonna be EXPENSIVE FIX 🤔, also my wife said mine shouldn’t be that small either but it does get twice the size on occasion 😂.
You have an amazing channel, one of my favourite in this topic! What do you suggest for somebody who has a huge interest in doing car repairs themselves, and has done some repairs here and there (i have a 3.0 TDI audi A4), and wants to get better, but is afraid that he will mess something up? I’m not a mechanic but i have an extreme interest in this topic and being able to fix cars myself. Many thanks for your answer!
When you do pieces to the camera, eg right at the end, could you consider using a static tripod mount rather than waving the camera about on the end of your arm?
Please Dean, when you do the rebuild, show us a great deal of the work involved. I don't think I'm alone in liking long videos. For those of us who are now armchair mechanics, our kick is seeing the ins and outs of what makes things tick. Really looking forward to this one.
Agreed
It’s the UA-cam algorithm I reckon that dictates shorter videos. But he could do a Patreon link with a longer version maybe ?
Armchair mechanics 🤔 here aswell
I love Vice Grip Garage for this very reason, even if I usually end up falling asleep halfway through I come back to finish the rest of the video later
Agree with this. I could watch a couple of hours of this at a time. Exciting project.
Can’t wait to see this one unwind,my favourite car of all time.

Looking forward to the rebuild, loved the intro 😁

You're*
Nice car Dean, should be a walk in the park as you’ve done a V8 before!! The RS4 engine rebuild is why I watch your videos, that was interesting to watch, especially as I now own one!!
I've been looking forward for a build like this, finally. An R8 on the channel. from a fellow R8 owner to another, well done Dean.
You ain't got no R8
Why wouldn’t he? It’s an attainable car.
@@kingston2411Don’t be bitter. Maybe if you could type out a sentence correctly you could own one yourself one day.
Brilliant! Great decision. Looking forward to the rebuild series.
Dean, that intro was golden, I feel like I was watching an episode of My Strange Addiction with that intro
🤣
Loving the content recently easy my top 3 channel at the moment. Reward us with a long video on the engine teardown and inspection. Much love
Thanks mate!
Dean knows no fear! Videos like this are the best on YT, mere mortals mucking about with exotics. Bravo sir.
v8 + manual gearbox = best r8 combo.
Best intro ever fella !!!! Great video and good luck with this next project
Best car vid intro ever!!! Loved the RS4, looking forward to this. What an amazing looking car!
Only recently found this channel, got a recommendation after a salvage rebuilds video, enjoying these videos a lot and subbed..👍
Hi deen the only person who can built any top engine is u and then two Asian lads who do UA-cam u guys are the best salvage mechanic keep up the good work 👍🏾

Cant wait to see this car drive again, i hope you decide to keep this car for a long time, you deserve it for saving it with your own hands
Love the one man band approach to your videos pal! Each one never disappoints me keep up the excellent work 👍🏻
Nice acting in the opener....or is it acting 😂
Deffo not acting haha
Awesome looking car Dean, I’m looking forward to watching this go from a non runner to fully functioning…! ❤️👍🏻
I loved the RS4 series! I can't wait to see this thing running and driving again!
Brilliant intro! I have a ghost2 on my s4 it's a blessing and a curse, looking forward to diagnoses and remedial action on this one
Great video as ever Dean. Looking forward to progress on the R8.
We are all excited... Looking forward to the rebuild
I hope it all works out well for you there mate. I was an apprentice at Audi when the R8 was launched.
Wow what a project this is going to be, looking forward to this one dean, longer in-depth vids please!!, A cracking choice, roll on part 2, nice one Dean.
That will be great content - really looking forward to it! thanks Dean!
ps. what about v10 swapping it and steaking two turbos behind it?! 🤪
Can't wait to see the results. Looks like a good buy. I made the Quattro TV commercials when that was built. Now I have a 2ltr m2 8j TT. I was the first to drive one at the factory in Bavaria c1997/8 I think. I wish I had your skills!

This is your best yet, so many of us would love to own an R8, can’t wait to see you fix this one.
Loved the start of the video 😂😂
Really looking forward to this following this build 🙌🙌
Blimey you have landed yourself some serious work there Dean
Just started watching, love the beginning 😂
What an intro ! Cool car waiting for brand new episodes with engine repair 😉 💪🥳
Oh Dean we all suffer from the same disease 🤣. Be afraid very afraid, dry sump ,belts on the wrong side ,lots of body work to pull and absolutely no room to work. Will love to watch your new adventure ✨️.
YES!!! Genuinely excited for this series!
Ricky at RE performance has done a buyers guide on R8s and he mentioned the oil lines are known for going, especially the early models with black steel pipes. Bet the oil leak is from a blown oil line? Then WeBuyanycar ignored the red oil light?
Will be good to see the issue and a good length vid for the diagnosis and repair
The RS4 was a brilliant project that you just kept going at till it was sorted. Sure this will be as good and probably better - looking forward to you getting stuck into this amazing engine - with your previous experience of the RS4 sure it will up and running before too long👍
Let’s hope so! Hope the engines salvageable too 😬
RE Performance is your go to youtuber for R8 stuff.
Thanks mate! 😊
Best thing for seized motorcycle engines , surprisingly is brake fluid ,
one of the absolute best penetrating oils to drop down the plug-holes.
gets to the rust on the rings & bore.
Best intro ever. 😂😂😂 Really looking forward to this one too! Good luck Dean.
Wonderful project Dean ,now the fun begins 👍
Can't wait to see this rebuild, hopefully it won't be as bad as the other ones in and out 3 or 4 times 😬, the next video should be interesting
Nice… will look forward to the two engine rebuilds 👍
Great content.
Brilliant video dean, look forward to the teardown

I love this kind of videos!
subscribed mate keep up❤
nice! Dean looking forward this
That intro, hilarious. But what a new project!
one of these is on my vehicle bucket list
Lovely Jubbly car and future video's I'm sure, but I think you need to sell some more to fund it Dean 😳
Lol the intro tho! Ur a dam genius Gump!
Am looking forward to this rebuild Dean I was thinking of buying a R8
Some fantastic projects on the go here!
Great car Dean looking forward to this build 👊👍
Nice intro Dean,
You are more and more confortable.
Love This car. Love what you do. Can’t wait to see you work on that beast ❤
oh my god, im nervous too lol but i cant wait to see the outcome, good luck 👍
Love that intro! We KNOW! 💛👍
This is going to be a good series for sure. Also congrats on the second R8, let's not brush over how big of an achievement that is 🙏🏽
Thanks! The V10 will have to go though 🤣
@@SavingSalvage That's going to be sad, but it's worth it for that gated manual paired with the V8
Balls deep as usual - fair play!
Great content thanks. If it’s any help car needs to have run up to temp to check oil level and then left for 2 mins. Obviously you can’t do this at the mo! There are two flexi oil lines on the passenger side rear behind the liner that go to a cooler. Maybe one of these has failed. Good luck!
That start is just perfect can relate so much 🤣🤣
Oh yes 😂 loving the confession intro, you have a problem but it’s great for the channel lol
Another reason for the V8 instead of the V10 is the great noise. The V10 is all well and good, but nothing else really compares to a crossplane V8.
Dean. Have you ever thought about wearing bard wire underpants. There is just as much pain but your hands aren’t always covered in oil.
I've got a picture in my mind's eye of the type of person who owned that particular car...
ALL the best on the repairs i was the 2nd to your bid on the car and i must say it looks like a nice car
I've been waiting for a black manual car on copart for a while but i had the wife looking over my shoulder and so i got to the price where i thought there was enough room for repair money i.e replacement engine or with the listing saying water damage i thought it would be heads of and sort the bent valves out
when turned the computer on and seen the title a knew it was that car i was bidding on so all the best
Always fantastic content 👌will really enjoy this one dean 👍👍👍
I feel your pain Dean , I'm in the same boat mate ,cant pass a damaged car
Loved the intro - so true
Can't wait to see this one. You should tag WatchJRGo in this, as he wimped out and bought a new engine for his.
Love the intro 🤭😂😎 great content too
Try putting it in a high gear and push it or tow it that will show if the engine is seized, saves messing up the starter motor.
Dry sump oil level can’t be properly checked like that… danger of overfilling
Looking forward to this rebuild 💪
Another awesome series
Great video Dean looking forward to seeing the next one is it seized 😳😩
Ambition is critical as they say 🙌
I get where your coming from but hey keep striving Dean
Awwwww Dean that was so sad and I thought my drug and alcohol problem was bad ☹️ but funny 😂, wow give me your addiction any day lol 😂 what a car 😳 spectacular looking and I have a feeling it’s gonna be EXPENSIVE FIX 🤔, also my wife said mine shouldn’t be that small either but it does get twice the size on occasion 😂.
Mrs Salvage must be very understanding
Haha I do watch these and think oh my gosh he’s bought another one! 😅🤦🏻♀️ (Mrs Salvage) ❤
You have an amazing channel, one of my favourite in this topic! That intro alone is an insta like.
You are a brave young man!🙏👍👏🇸🇪
Best of luck with the strip down and rebuild.
Loved the intro dean
Lovely motor , good luck
When you do pieces to the camera, eg right at the end, could you consider using a static tripod mount rather than waving the camera about on the end of your arm?
And we love you for these reasons
Charles trent broke a 4.2 v8 this week. The engine was ok it maybe up on their website for sale now
Looking forward to this one, had a V10 RS6 from new for 3 years and always wondered about stripping a big engine down, only wondered........
I'm looking forward to this one, I really like that car.
go ed Dean lad, this is gonna be good👌👌💪💪
