    Dry sump engines usually need to be ran up to temp before you check the oil level in the header tank/reservoir. Oil runs back down into the sump when stood. You probably overfilled it right at the start, that's probably the cause of the leak at the end, overspill back out of the reservoir and possibly also the smoking when booted, (if you're lucky).

      spot on, mclaren engines will do exactly the same thing when overfilled especially the smoke

    Someone had some deep pockets racking up big mileage in one of these. An uncle had one and the thirst was biblical especially if pressing on. The suspension in dynamic was unusable on the road because it was so firm. They’re a heavy old thing and that weight makes itself known when braking or arriving at a corner.

    Welcome to the V10 club… Turbos and wager Intercooler kit, decat and tune and you have a 800hp-900hp monster.. get the gearbox upgraded too and you can turn the boost up for 1200hp with the right fuel pumps and turbos…
    DRC leaks in shocks can be expensive to fix.. a lot of owners remove the DRC and replace with quality adjustable shocks…

Simmilar but without the turbos and DRC, it's a great car and I always wonder "what could have been". I'd guess you've paid around the £12k mark? Either way you have the skills and tools to get it sorted and I'm made up you have!

    I have nothing to offer in terms of knowledge, but I love this car. It may be my ultimate. Not too new, not too high tech. I had a 4.2 V8 A6 recently, had gearbox issues, was off the road for over a year for many reasons. Never fully recovered, ended up scrapping it when exhaust gases found their way into coolant, suggesting head gasket had gone. Absolutely gutted, I loved it. Bought a 2012 S3 subsequently, which I like, but maybe should have held out for a V6 A4.
    Looking forward to this immensely. Good luck, I’ll swap it for my S3 when you’re done if you like!

  • @Blazs120gl
    @Blazs120gl 2 роки тому +7

    Was this the first start? If I had no info about the car and its engine's state, I would have hooked up VCDS and do a full scan, including checking some measurement blocks BEFORE even trying to start the engine. It could have been e.g. DTCs warning about timing misalignment which could have cause a jump during engine start, especially if it has been sitting for a while (and possibly no pressure in the tensioner). Even better to manually turn the crankshaft to get a feel about how safe it is to start the engine. Don't do a _start of faith_ when you have the right tools to get an insight on what you can expect when you start it. I don't mean to offend you in any way, just pointing out - IMO - how lucky you were.

  • @MikelDog

    Agree with the comments about the oil overfill but it normally takes longer for the oil to leak past the turbo seals so suspect the turbos are quite worn. Oil leak underneath is from the oil pump drive shaft rear oil seal - it'll be cooked. Its about 80p but the work involved to replace it is epic - but then it's the same for just about every job on the car, even changing the oil takes a couple of hours if done properly.

  • @juvenitto
    @juvenitto 2 роки тому +1

    Interesting how much it was, i reckon 8-12k, hopefully because if it is as serious as turbo issue that will be costly, and the suspension to be sorted as well. And if you would replace turbos do it with hybrid, but look after temperature to be not to high when driven more agressive. Other then that great car mate.

    And one long journey so far..
    This week I put in for MOT and it actually failed on tyres..
    I noticed yesterday that all tyres are same size 225 but the rears are 50s /R17 Fronts are 45/R17..Tyre wear looks poor so possible tracking maybe out..
    So I love the rear tyre looking size but can I fit 245/50s or 45s R17 All round.?
    What's difference between 50s and 45s..?
    I know prices vary.. However there was a brand I never heard off that seemed to have a great review..
    Look forward to your reply..

    An a6 or rs6 with the start and stop button works different as you think. You can use either the key in the ignition, or use the start button. If you like in this shoot first put in the key and turn it to ignition (pos1) the start button doesn't work. So you either use your key or the keyless option.

    Theres an RS6 lives near us, in blue on the way to daughters school. It sounds scary when cold, whilst not unflattering, a bit rough. Once it's accelerated it sounds fabulous. I would hope you paid £7k max. Nice car if you are into expensive cars and can afford a petrol tanker to follow it!!
    Good luck Dean, I think you might need it.
    Cheers, Bob

    How do you insure the cars when driving them on public roads? Do you have good trade insurance? I’m struggling to get cheap quotes 🙁
