If you need to re-thread anything that carries fluid, consider timeserts with a small about of sealant instead of helicoil as fluids can easily move between the inner and outer threads making it more likely to leak, especially for a fixing that has to be removed and replaced regularly. I once had to drill an engine block to pick up a water gallery in and out for a water to oil cooler. It made a terrible mess with helicoils.
Mate you took the leaks so well even on camera 😂 I would have been cursing big time! Now I’m hoping the next big project is the long overdue TVR? Please say yes 😃
Neat job Dean. I'm not a fan of heli coils - I had too many come out on the end of the plug! My favourite is Timesert by Wurth. Looks like a lovely car and one someone will get a great deal of pleasure driving. Not me though - my back won't get me out of it!😄😂
I feel for you, a never ending leak, but patience is a virtue and you’ve surpassed yourself. If, on the other hand, you’ve lost it and you wouldn’t have sorted it and it would have gone way too wrong. Kudos to you and great work.
Was looking forward to this video. Dean, as always just fantastic! Thanks so much for all of your work both on the cars and of course the cameras and editing as well!
27:30 With a manual transmission it's not going to blow up if you'r losing some fluid from it and driving it even a long way. Even if you have lost ALL of the fluid from it and still need to get to a shop or home you can drive it sensibly for many miles to get there and not have a big worry. It's not like an Automatic where the fluid is a must for the clutches and torque converter etc.
Brilliant. Vidéos Dean, really felt for you when you had recurring fluid leaks, but your skill and tenacity showed through and the problems were solved. This really is a set of videos that would win an Oscar in the category of classic motors rebuilding 😂 👍🇬🇧😎
Didn't you watch the bloody video?? At 19:59 he clearly said: " I've left it for about 45 minutes.....might leave it for another 15".....maybe YOU should "watch the bloody video". The second time he left it for longer.....
I had a huge bong after the bung leak was done! Congratiulations (You earned the full word!) I only hope the new project is worth it- You weren´t the first one having seller´s regret syndrom... I had (still have) regrets on selling my first guitar wich happened to be an old Fender Strat. I was clueless at the time (1993) but now I´ll never have one again. Too broke for that. Sigh.
see the ice blasters all the time tavarish having the p1 done seems to have made the process popular over here with uk youtubers never used to see it before
Those leaks would have driven me bonkers I would have gone all Basil Fawlty😂 Car looks amazing although needs silver wheels really. You have done a cracking job on this one bet you will be sorry to see it go.
Hi Dean, this car loves to leak. But thank God it's finished now. Great job, bro. What's next? Austin Martin, Ferrari??. I can't wait lol. Thanks for all your hard work, mate. 💯👏👏👏🇮🇪
Some gasket sealers if you buy them online are fake, so always go with name brand from name brand shops i use Wynns from euros normally, not had an issue
Nice project is coming to a end ! Well done and this car looking almost brand new to me. However for my personal i don t understand why Audi , s are so call premium cars, because what i reed and hearing that there are many problems with electric and oil leaks.... So for me no Audi ! But this car is back on the road and that is the important part of this project ! Nice Job !!!
Nice to know that someone managed to shaft webuyanycar for once. Gotta say I agree the R8 would look better with silver wheels. But sweet car all the same.
You're using the same crap helicoils as i do. I've been having to use red loctite with the helicoil to avoid them retracting out. Genuinely stronger though.
Waw it looks so good Dean its like a fiew month old car looking at the underneath of it shame about that little leak you found man the car is amazing dean looks bloody lovely clean as hell scrubbed up well man lol 🤣 nice bro like the video man for real!... ✨👌✨👌👍👍👍
It has been re-sprayed Dean, and it looks like it was done right - there's no way the paint looks like that on a 17 year old car when there was rust / dirt / oil all over the chassis
Someone I know done the same with an S4….. engine was goosed and they took it to WBAC and he got a decent sum from them,it went to auction and reappeared on Audi pages on FB for £19k and it’s now down to £13k as no one will buy it
Beautiful car....great to see it looking so good. So pleased you didn't buy a set of black Audi rings for it....Yes, it needs silver wheels IMO....🤔😏😀🇬🇧
Hondabond or Yamabond everything! Oh, and watch Allen Millyard about assembling techniques. For some reason he can make everything leak free and perfect.
Dean..good video you don't cut anything if you mess with cars/bikes engine's that's how they go sometimes..it looks mint..for the year what a car..a keeper..will be going up in valve..give it 10 years..they maybe a 50 60k car..👌
The engine has 11 liters of engine oil, I don't think anyone would drive long distances with a large leak without noticing it. The fact that the oil lines leak is a known problem with the first models. There was a recall campaign "17E1" in which the oil lines and the oil cooler were replaced
You are the picture of patience. You didn't throw anything. Leaks are just a life altering aggravation. Great job, great video.
Not on camera anyway 🤣
@@SavingSalvage 30:10 is there a torq missing from the sump chap? Third from right as your looking from front bumper
@@Cestmoi-q5d I noticed that aswell
@@SavingSalvageI you keep busy Dean, cool name by the way, how did you learn to fix cars.
They must cost a lot and so time-consuming.

It's a joy watching somebody who knows his onions! from a retired engineer, well-done mate!

That is one of the nicest cars you have saved
Neat job Dean. I'm not a fan of heli coils - I had too many come out on the end of the plug! My favourite is Timesert by Wurth. Looks like a lovely car and one someone will get a great deal of pleasure driving. Not me though - my back won't get me out of it!😄😂

Oooooohhhh! That sealant failure must have made you cry😢 but she's looking sweet Dean. Great job.
Knowledge and perseverance pays off. Excellent work Dean
Great tenacity and temperament coupled with true grit to get through that! Brilliant job, Dean. Well done. Look forward to seeing the next one.
Chinese loctite , we use Wynns sealant and never had issue , oil, water , hot ,cold the lot, good luck for the future Dean
Was looking forward to this video. Dean, as always just fantastic! Thanks so much for all of your work both on the cars and of course the cameras and editing as well!
That ice blasters have done an amazing job ' the Audi looks well mint now 👍
Nice Work, Dean. You will be glad to see the back of this R8. Massive amount of time and work went into this beast. 💯👏👏👏 🇮🇪

Absolutely hate black “invisible” wheels!! Unbelievable condition for a 17 year old car though 😁
What a car and 100% worth the effort, sweet job fella. Fingers crossed for second time around!
Fantastic work. I felt your stress, you’ve done a great job and you can hear the exhaust on the video…sounded lovely.
Amazing results from that dry icing Dean. Made it look almost new.
Should’ve waited for the job to be finished with the leaks n all
Dean, you made that tapping difficult by not securing the plate to the bench, however well done, got it done mate!
sick rebuild you do some of the best work on youtube rebuilding crashed and salvage cars
Thanks bud!

What a nightmare, well done dean for patience and sorting it out
One of my favorite Audis
Same especially with that gated manual which is something you don’t get anymore these days.
I've been lucky enough to drive a manual V8 R8. Words cannot describe how epic it sounds
Its was a challenge this time, leaks all over the place, but you took it on the chin and got on with it, well done.
Good series - the leaks just added to the whole experience of car ownership. But Dean man you now need a cameraman asap.
Best to leave sump/sealant overnight before introducing oil.
Which he did didnt you watch the bloody video?

Well done on getting it finished. I would love an R8 in a light metallic colour.
Fantastic result, and lots of patience, another classic car saved.
👌
It’s London ULEZ compliant too yay 🥳
love watching your videos, can't wait to see the new project
You are single-handedly saving the used car market 👏🏼👏🏼
Can’t wait for the new reveal!!! Awesome job on the Audi!

Nice dry ice transformation of the car. Frustrating oil and water leaks. Looks a great car.

Well done for persevering Dean, but so brave to change oil in a light coloured top! 😲👍
Patience of a Saint!
I had exactly the same issue with locktite sealant. It dissolved in the same way.
Great job as always Dean. Can’t wait to drive it. I’m due a win at some point 🏎️🏎️🏎️🏎️
On this occasion I'll pass on the raffle 😂 A train crash waiting to happen, good work though.

I had the same problem with loctite sealant on a transit timing chain cover
Hi Dean, loved the show, Audi R8 my dream car, don’t usually enter comps, but I just have to 😂
I av a 225 mk 1 tt love it but your r8 is stunning but running cost are scary
think i would just replace the sump if not to pricey and available
It’s a R8 only sump. It will be £600+
@@SavingSalvage ah u did the sensible option then
It’s around £600 mark when I bought mine I saw it on the invoice that’s from Audi dealership
Wow perseverance to the max well done another great car done by you great video
Yet another cracking video dean. ❤. Audi expertise at its best. Cheers Dean top man.😮😅
That dry ice is gangsta 💯
I had a problems with different sealants not working right I use Wurth brand sealant now and never had an issue since
Some gasket sealers if you buy them online are fake, so always go with name brand from name brand shops i use Wynns from euros normally, not had an issue
Bolts holding the underside of the rear bumper need replacing those horrible crusty one ruin the rest of this immaculate machine 👍 good work
That’s annoying with the oil leaks. I find with vw group cars that the white sealant from the dealer is the best to use. Expensive but worth it
Best sealant to use on exotic cars is hondas honda bond
Got my tickets for this one 🤞 you did well not to lose the plot with chasing leaks!

Oil leaks only occur when driven under load unfortunately, they can sit idling for ages and not leak
That engine bay looks brand new!
Seen the newer R8 in the background, could that be the new project? :) Great vids brother!
Love that buy any car got humped 😅 usally the other way round. Will buy tickets for it

Do you have to take off a bunch of plastic covers to get to the battery?
I remember the blue r8 with a auto box ?
Should have let fully it dry before even running it up dean? 🤔🤔🤔 Did you not use the dirko ht stuff?
Your new project is a gray new shape Audi r8 I think as that’s what I seen in back ground I hope so
Hi mate what was the total cost for parts to rebuild the engine

Use Hondabond mate my goto for sealing sumps
Great video and car looks superb. 👍👍👍😊
I’m amazed there was enough material still there, for you to cut those new threads.
Did you check the expiry date of the sealant? These products degrade after time or if not stored in correct temps.
Immaculate …feel you Chief!!
Isn't reinzosil the best for that sump? What you used the first time?😮
Honda bond is the best sealant known, it's the only sealant I'll ever use, Rj in Oz
The best sealer you can buy for future reference is Victor Reinz Reinzosil,it’s the best by far and is OE quality👍🏻
