Today we install the IXF budget crankset on my Trek Marlin 6. Amazon tool set: www.amazon.com/gp/product/B08... IXF crankset: www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07...
Thanks! Followed along on my Ozark Trail Ridge and it was a breeze! Tip for anyone reading: don't tighten the dust cover on the non-drive side too tight before you tighten the pinching bolts or there will be lots of friction slowing down the arm!
Installed same IXF cranks and BB myself on my budget build - Done over 2,000 miles of hard grinding and putting alot of torque on them, been utterly perfect! Will by again when/if they break!
I have the same bike and crankset but my dust cover won't screw in its way too short, am I doing anything wrong? I only have one spacer drive side it's a trek marlin 5
Could you have left the spacer out to allow putting the chainring on the outside of the crank brackets?? Thinking of doing this same conversion on a 2020 Marlin 7
for me having the chainring on the outside of the crank bracket's was to far out and I couldn't shift all the way into the lowest gear, but having that small spacer on the bottom bracket allowed just enough clearance so it wouldn't hit the frame and I could shift down to the lowest gear.
I looked at the specs of my bike online, so my bottom bracket shell on the bike is 73mm I added the one spacer to bring the new bottom bracket out to 73mm and to help get my chainring away from my frame. I did alot of youtube searching and most people say one spacer for 73mm bottom bracket and 2 spacers for a 68mm bottom bracket.
@@budycelyn For my btwin rockrider 520, you're meant to do 1 spacer on drive side for 73mm, and 1 spacer drive side, 2 spacers on non drive side for 68mm. That may be relevant to you?
Depends on your bottom bracket width. Mine is 73mm and I was going to put a spacer on drive side but it was throwing off my driveline too much. No spacers anymore.
On my bike there is about 1/4 of an inch. Not much but it doesn't hit the chainstay. That's a reason why I used one spacer on the drive side bearing for the bottom bracket.
@@ayrtonl9983 I believe it will work with boost frames. The bottom bracket shell width is 73mm same as mine. you might have to go with a smaller chainring because of the boost frame.

You answered all my questions in the first 30 seconds!
Thank you sir! Very helpful 👌
This was helpful 👍
I have the same bike and the same crank set this is a great help thank you!
Is it a trek marlin
Yes sir
Cool video dude, kudos Bro. What’s your background song?
I suggest you buy Snail chainring bolts cover if you install the ring on the inner side. Makes the crank look better IMO
Inside the spider is correct cus normal chainline for 32 34 would be in the original middle location
hello can you tell me please how's the crank set works now after that you use it a while?
Cool! Did you have to shorten the chain ?
Yea I had to take off a few links.👍

Was that an old tire underneath your frame to protect it? That’s a pretty neat idea👍🏾
Yea I save old tire's and tubes to use them to protect my frame. I have an old tube wrapped on my chain stay to protect the frame from chain slap.
Pretty common cheap method brother
Did you use a spacer on both sides man or just the drive side ?
Just the drive side.
Did you also put a spacer on the non-drive side?
Nope, for me it was just one spacer on the drive side.
What is the notch count on each cup?
How did you measure your spacer width 73 mm from what to what? I’ve never done this before if you could go over that would be great.

@@outdoorsandmoretv1445 when you say 2 spacers for the 68mm shell, is that 1 spacer per side or 2 spacers on the drive side ?
@@budycelyn one on each side is what most people do.

The cap thing fell on me during my ride What do you think caused it?
I'm not sure mine is still on. When I put it on I tightened it probably to much but it's not coming off 🤣
@@outdoorsandmoretv1445 hmm alright thx. i removed one spacer in my non drive side and I really tightened it🤣 hope it wont fall this time
Is that a trek marlin 4
How many spacers did you install?

@@outdoorsandmoretv1445 Thank you sir. Thank you very much for your advice and your time. I really appreciate this.
Do I need a crank puller for the ixf one
No crank puller needed to get the ixf crankset off.
those cranks with a 2x provisiobn wont work easily to convert an older mtb as the ring will be too far outborad
How many teeth on the chainring?
I believe it's a 32 tooth chainring
*34 tooth chain ring
