I have the same bike and crankset but my dust cover won't screw in its way too short, am I doing anything wrong? I only have one spacer drive side it's a trek marlin 5
Is that a trek marlin 4
How many teeth on the chainring?
I believe it's a 32 tooth chainring
*34 tooth chain ring
Thanks! Followed along on my Ozark Trail Ridge and it was a breeze! Tip for anyone reading: don't tighten the dust cover on the non-drive side too tight before you tighten the pinching bolts or there will be lots of friction slowing down the arm!
I bought the Advent X 1x10 setup for my old Rockhopper. The cassette came in a few more pieces than yours plus a spacer ring. When I get the cassette finally torqued down, I'll be a lot happier. Same setup on my girlfriend's old Specialized and runs like a champ...and for a very budget friendly price. Nice video!
Thank you sir! Very helpful 👌
What is the notch count on each cup?
You answered all my questions in the first 30 seconds!
I never see any review comment on the chainring size that gives the best range with the AdventX for good uphill + downhill gearing.
hello can you tell me please how's the crank set works now after that you use it a while?
You use 32T in combination with advent x?
30 or 32 or 34 .. depends on wheel size too.
@@chadkline4268 thx Chad .. i have 650b - would you lean toward 30 or 32 or 34?
@@collegeofsocialsciencesuhm2259 I'd lean to a non riveted crank and chainring assembly so I could try different chainrings to see which I like best for the type of terrain I ride on 🙂👍 Chainrings are cheap, so you can buy a few to try 😁 I see many for around $20.
@@collegeofsocialsciencesuhm2259 I can't answer exactly, because I have 29in wheels. And I live in a very mountainous area.
Cool video dude, kudos Bro. What’s your background song?
Was the cable already fully ready with its plastic housing or did you have to buy the housing and thread the cable through it?
Doesn't come with housing, just the cable.
Is this compatible in 3x setup?
I might work in a 3x but the Chain would have lots of slack in it to be able to fit over the 3rd and 10tj gear
@@outdoorsandmoretv1445 alright thanks mate!
@@bikechowfunyou can just remove the front derailleur and then select the chainring you want to use. Start with the biggest, and then you can cut the chain and move the the next biggest until you find the chainring that works best.
@@chadkline4268 thank you so much! 🥰
@@bikechowfun also, if you are interested in the AdventX, many find using an 11 speed chain to work better because it is thinner and allows more clearance between the cogs. KMC chains are highly regarded.
those cranks with a 2x provisiobn wont work easily to convert an older mtb as the ring will be too far outborad
The ten speed advent X is hard to beat at that price point. But the ten or eleven speed Deore with a M5120 clutched derailleur is not far off the same price, in fact a bit cheaper so the win goes to Shimano . I have never had issues with any of my Shimano equipment while the Advent stuff is still a bit unknown .
So, what do you take if both are free? 🙂
How many tooth in your largest sprocket?
Largest is a 48t sprocket.
@@outdoorsandmoretv1445 oh i see ty for the info
What adjustments did you make to shape the wake for left foot forward vs. goofy?
Didn't change the weight on either side, it is weighted evenly. Just moved the surf gate to the other side.
Did you use a spacer on both sides man or just the drive side ?
Just the drive side.
I have the same bike and the same crank set this is a great help thank you!
Is it a trek marlin
Yes sir
Could you have left the spacer out to allow putting the chainring on the outside of the crank brackets?? Thinking of doing this same conversion on a 2020 Marlin 7
for me having the chainring on the outside of the crank bracket's was to far out and I couldn't shift all the way into the lowest gear, but having that small spacer on the bottom bracket allowed just enough clearance so it wouldn't hit the frame and I could shift down to the lowest gear.
I suggest you buy Snail chainring bolts cover if you install the ring on the inner side. Makes the crank look better IMO
I like 11-46.... What l really like about microshift is the way you can mix and match shifters and other components and the reasonable prices and good quality....
Greetings...if I may ask, what kind of rear Hub are you using? Is this hub setup good for all "1 by 9 or 10 speed"? Getting some ideas, as eventually I'll be doing a build from the Frame up. Great job on the Marlin. Cheers.
good work, I took a different path. I sold my 2019 Marlin 6 [exact same one shown] and bought a new Talon 2 with Microshift 1x9. cost to convert to 1x9,10 would have cost about the same except I got a new bike with different color for a change. so far without 1k miles, I really do like the Advent. no issue at all and has been reliable and have not even done any tuning/maintenance since first assembling/adjusting.
I have the same bike, 2021 Giant Talon 2. It's a great bike.
This was helpful 👍
Installed same IXF cranks and BB myself on my budget build - Done over 2,000 miles of hard grinding and putting alot of torque on them, been utterly perfect! Will by again when/if they break!
Inside the spider is correct cus normal chainline for 32 34 would be in the original middle location
Was that an old tire underneath your frame to protect it? That’s a pretty neat idea👍🏾
Yea I save old tire's and tubes to use them to protect my frame. I have an old tube wrapped on my chain stay to protect the frame from chain slap.
Pretty common cheap method brother
Did you also put a spacer on the non-drive side?
Nope, for me it was just one spacer on the drive side.
Do I need a crank puller for the ixf one
No crank puller needed to get the ixf crankset off.
How did you guys weight the boat? I just got a 2003 Malibu wakesetter 21 xti. Interior is the same but the hull is shaped to make a bigger wake/wave compared to the sunsetter
We have two 400lb big bags one on each side. A 90lb cement block under each front seat and 230lb of cement blocks under the back seats. Making the custom cement blocks was a cheap and easy way to get some weight in the boat. We also have the wake wedge on the back which Malibu claims is equal to 1,000lbs of ballast.
@@outdoorsandmoretv1445 ok thank you. Curious how many people did you also have in the boat and did you all sit in the back?
@@turtleheadrudy1720 We had 3 adults sitting in the back. And a few younger kids up front.
Is there enough clearance between chainstay and chainring?
On my bike there is about 1/4 of an inch. Not much but it doesn't hit the chainstay. That's a reason why I used one spacer on the drive side bearing for the bottom bracket.
@@outdoorsandmoretv1445 Thank you very much. I'm wondering is this crank able to install on a boost frame.
@@ayrtonl9983 I believe it will work with boost frames. The bottom bracket shell width is 73mm same as mine. you might have to go with a smaller chainring because of the boost frame.
@@outdoorsandmoretv1445 Thank you sir. Thank you very much for your advice and your time. I really appreciate this.
How did you measure your spacer width 73 mm from what to what? I’ve never done this before if you could go over that would be great.
I looked at the specs of my bike online, so my bottom bracket shell on the bike is 73mm I added the one spacer to bring the new bottom bracket out to 73mm and to help get my chainring away from my frame. I did alot of youtube searching and most people say one spacer for 73mm bottom bracket and 2 spacers for a 68mm bottom bracket.
@@outdoorsandmoretv1445 when you say 2 spacers for the 68mm shell, is that 1 spacer per side or 2 spacers on the drive side ?
@@budycelyn one on each side is what most people do.
@@budycelyn For my btwin rockrider 520, you're meant to do 1 spacer on drive side for 73mm, and 1 spacer drive side, 2 spacers on non drive side for 68mm. That may be relevant to you?
I have a question. if I put a crankset for 1x11 I will have problems?
You would have to mess arround with adding more or less spacers on your bottom bracket and/or changing how you mount the chainring.
@@outdoorsandmoretv1445 thank you
Just try. Honesty 1 x 10 no issue. Adventx good and long. I don't need any hype like Grx 810 group set. Like my friend hype me to get grx groupset but climbing hill they no power leg.
I ordered the Shimano Deore 170 mm 1x10 or 11 crankset and I am wondering how much fiddling it may take or maybe none at all. I read from several sources the 1x12 cranksets will work, but chainring is different with 1x12 setups, which doesn't seem like a big deal as long as the chain does what it is suppose to.
Would like to have watched you make all the adjustments. I just ordered mine and looking forward to setting it up.
I am no pro and adjusting it, but out of the box all I had to do was tighten the barrel adjuster on the shifter a little bit and and it shifted perfectly
Cool! Did you have to shorten the chain ?
Yea I had to take off a few links.👍
You're gonna be climbing the steepest of hills with ease!!! Sick.
The cap thing fell on me during my ride What do you think caused it?
I'm not sure mine is still on. When I put it on I tightened it probably to much but it's not coming off 🤣
@@outdoorsandmoretv1445 hmm alright thx. i removed one spacer in my non drive side and I really tightened it🤣 hope it wont fall this time
How many spacers did you install?
I added one spacer on the drive side. 👍
Depends on your bottom bracket width. Mine is 73mm and I was going to put a spacer on drive side but it was throwing off my driveline too much. No spacers anymore.
Nice vid
