The authenticity of your channel and dedication to budget oriented gear keeps me here!
Heck yeah man! That is awesome, we will try and keep it that way for sure, but I will give you a little insight just cause you are a subber!:) It looks like we are getting 2 pairs of forks that are waaaaaaay not budget, now dont get upset its just a company that wants to work with us a little and gave us hell of a deal man!! So we couldn't pass it up:) Now that being said brother man, other than a situatio like that, we will keep it BUDGET!!! 💙💙 Thank you we really enjoy hearing from our subbers man:)
I second that!
I watched this video last summer (and all your videos...love them) and it was one of the reasons why I installed the IXF crankset to my GT avalanche build. But while riding in winter snow, slush and mud, one of the BB bearings seized so had to swap it out.
Anyway my BB width is 68mm and when I initially istalled I didn't put any BB spacers like how you did. However, i recently learned that spacers are important and are needed when installing a BB.
For 68mm width BB you require 1 spacers on nondrive side and 2 spacers on the drive side.
If you have a 73mm BB then only 1 spacer is need on the drive side. This keeps a better chain line and leaves a little bit more space clearance between the crank arms and chain stays.
Also I learned that if your BB gets seized, you can just replace the bearings instead of buying a new BB. The sealed bearings for IXF BB or any Shimano hollowtech BB is "6805 RS" (rubber sealed) and this measures out to 25mmx37mmx7mm which fits exactly in a Bottom bracket cup/shell. I purchased 10 sealed bearings for $20 Canada (cheaper for US). Way better then spending $30-50 for a new BB. You can even buy ones with ceramic bearings which cost more but are supposed to be better.
Just some money saving since I know bike parts add up. Shimano, Sram and other companies say you can't take out the bearings which is not true. I fixed my IXF BB and it works like new and just as good as my Shimano hollowtech BB.
Cheers Guys.
Cheers brother, I appreciate the review and part numbers. I have learned after many bikes and cranksets the spacers are recommended but depending on the job, it does vary. But all in all it's a good rule of thumb 👍 Thanks for watching all of our stuff brother, and totally got to get me an extra BB now!!
That’s almost exactly the same setup I just ordered. Only difference is the brand of chain ring. It’s a 34 tooth. Then I hope to turn it into a 1x10. Love you guys and your channel. Let’s hear it for the budget MTB riders. Not everyone has 3 grand to drop on a bike👍. But buying affordable then upgrading over time is the way to go. Love it!
Absolutely agree man %100, its nice to be able to piece together something ha ha and not brake the bank BUDGET!!!!!!!!
This was hilarious to watch! I too made a switch to the IXF crankset but I still go with a traditional round chainring. (I made pretty much all the same mistakes the first time I installed a hollow tech crankset.) It is important to check your pinch bolts on your crank arm after several rides, as it takes time to seat the splines and it loosens up.
Glad you got some enjoyment brother!! HA HA yes its been a fun and very bumpy ride but I think I have managed to kinda check stuff!! LOL Appreciate you watching us brother:)😂😂😂
Hey, I know this comment is a year old but how is that ifx crankset holding up for you?
Wolf: You don’t know 🤬…
this is my favorite father son UA-cam channel 😅😂
LOL!! Have to watch t again!! Love that intro as well, thanks Andrew! So cool you are checkin older stuff
I bought this set as well. Installed it yesterday and this is what I got as experience: I am converting a 3x8 to 1x8. Bottom bracket of the bike is 73mm. Before I disassembled the previous square taper bracket I measured the chainline. It was 50mm to the largest cog in the front and 45,5mm to the middle ring. Everywhere I read they recommend to use one spacer on the drive side. When I do this and mount the chainring on the inside, I get 50mm chainline. Bike works as if you are always on the largest gear on the front and chain stays straight with gears 6-7-8 on the back. But if you switch to lower gears like 5-4-3-2-1, then the chain angle is too steep. So, I removed the 3mm spacer and re-mounted. Now my default chainline is 47mm, which is closer to the middle ring on the front. Chain angle is not so steep on the largest and smallest gears. I am going to install 1,5mm washers, so I get the default for this bike 45,5mm chainline. This way it will always be on the "middle" ring on the front and that's the best you can get for an older bike I think. What I am saying is spacers are not always required for this set. That's my two cents.
Well that is very extensive reasoning and thank you very much for the breakdown. I didnt use a spacer and didnt take it out after reading everyone saying I needed one. Then I installed one and it sounded funny so I removed it and whalla, its very smooth now and run it like that even with the 10 spd. So thanks for getting my back! You must of read th ecomments
You guys really need a sitcom
Would you watch it hahaha? Thanks man🙏👍😎
Hint of red cause it matches the lockout on the shocks 👍🏻
Yeah, yeah, I can see that, good thinking. Hmmmmm...
Have been looking for a crank set for my GT. This was one of the sets I was looking at. Glade I found this video.
Awesome man, we use the hell out of them!!
Hey guy I work in a bike shop and recently we have had to use a blow torch to melt out the bb style square taper bottom brackets with plastic cups as they get stripped out also we had to do it after a customer went at one with a chisel
LOL!!! Man I bet you could tell some storys!!!! Thanks for watching and commenting brother:)
Just got my ixf crankset on with a 34t funn chainring. I had the same thing happen to me when I inserted the shaft the spacer popped out. With a little finesse I got it back in thanks again for your videos they help me alot.
No problem Casey! It happens to the best of us ha ha. Appreciate the comment brother.
That red color is nice bro. I installed this ixf crankset and snail narrow wide chain ring combo in black. After two weeks of using it never failed me. I use 1 spacers each side and it work great no alignment issue.
ok well, I was wondering? After i posted the video, people told me I should install the spacer or spacers atleast one on the drive side? Why should I do that? just alignment? Thanks and hope to hear back from you soon. Thanks for commenting man, I might just keep e'm red!
Arrow is supposed to be lined up with the crank arm on the oval
OK ok. I just got that in the comments and asked where its supposed to go so thank you!And of course completely bassackwards
So is the arrow supposed to be parallel to the crank arm? I just got this set up in the mail all black. Am going to try and do it myself. Hopefully I get it done correctly. Thanks for posting all your videos. It’s made me consider them for my GT aggressor pro as well!
Hey man did you ever get stuff answered? Sorry man you just showed up and it shows 3 weeks ago? But to answer your question the arrow is supposed to be parallel with the crank arm. Glad you got the same bike and glad our videos are giving you the upgrade bug! Hope all is well brother and again sorry to respond so late late:( love the name by the way
Yes, that’s what I ended up doing at the end. Paired it with the same crank arms and a 11-46t sunrace 10 speed cassette and shimano deore derailleur feels like a new bike!
But you’ve been doing all the leg work and discovering all the measurements. I’ve sort of just been following your build to par but trying to keep it all black. I’d love to send in a photo of it once it’s all done. Maybe you can feature it on your channel? I’ve seen a few other bike channels feature follower submissions. Might be something cool to add to your videos !
That is my favorite of all your bikes .
It's a good one man, the bike that built the channel 🤣🤣🤣
Wolf tic NationYou guys rock! I use a latex resistant band & rap it around my fork & to my frame so I can change out my handlebars and stem without dropping out my fork. It works well on my stand, you have to have a lot of tension on your rap To keep your forks from the hitting the floor. You guys give me the inspiration to try new things and build my own ride my spank Boundary is trail worthy and looks sharp.peace & love brother.
Dustin that is a good idea! LOL I got a few of those (rehab bands) at the gym!! Need to do that :) appreciate you being apart of the channel and so glad to give you some inspiration man!! Just wait till we break our 6000 SUBSCRIBER BIKE OUT!!You will be even more INSPIRED:)
craziest thing i used to take the main front crank and chainring off was yesterday, cutoff disc on my angle grinder, it was super seized up.
LOL!!! Dude I totally did that with the Temissor!! HA HA Thanks
Well I’ve used a red a pipe wrench to remove a cassette from a HG Shimano free hub 🤷♂️. Through past experience & A lot of Aggro. I’d like to think Im a little bit older & a bit Wiser now, probably the best thing to do is to get the right tool for the job. It just makes life easier. I’ve got an IXF crankset on my bike too & up until now I’ve had No problems . I placed a spacer on the drive side because the bottom bracket if it’s 73 mm it will need a spacer , I also put the chain ring on the INSIDE of the crank set that’s where it goes.I can say that I’m happy with it for commuting but I probably wouldn’t recommend it for doing any Gnarly jumps with it. Anyways cheers for upload & stay safe.
Hey thanks for the comments man, and a pipe wrench? What you think your me lol. I am hoping to hit that WISE stage someday instead of being frantic and scrambling for who knows what!LOL I just took my spacer off i think it will ride better and align better? Ill find out i guess and its been great so far man glad you watched and glad yours is holdin up. If you havent already checkout the 1x10 drivetrain video the XT derailleur and crankset do wonders you will dig it! Thanks again Andrew and hope to be hearing form you soon:)
WOLFTICK VIDEOS I’ve upgraded recently to a Shimano XT M8000 rear mech plus the XT 11 speed right shift lever. I went a bit more budget friendly on the cassette & installed a Sun Race CSMX8 11-46. I’ve had to completely replaced my sr suntour xct forks , I commute a lot to work & back so the winter plays havoc due to the roads being Salt gritted, the upper forks had totally rusted & pitted away , I ended up buying some Rockshox Recon silver Tk air 100 mm travel @ $200 Ouch!! but needs must they are AWSOME forks compared to the sr suntour’s . Mind you I’ve had the bike 5 years now so I’m having to invest to keep her going. That’s a nice GT Aggressor you’ve got they are Good bikes Anyways have a good one 👍🏴.
Man that's crazy to know that your riding in weather that requires salt on the roads. I don't ride if it drops below 50 degrees lol. I got a new fork coming soon so make sure you watch for that and let me know what you think. Take care brother.
WOLFTICK VIDEOS will do 👍 Thanks stay safe
Cool man and you as well!
I really enjoy your channel. I love mountain biking, but a lot of people out there just wanna have a fanciest/ latest stuff and forget about having fun. You guys keep it real. Thanks!!
You are very welcome, thank you for the comment and it's about riding! Not the 5000 dollar bike people can't!
I put an IXF on my 73mm Axum BB this week. The spline is about 8-10mm shorter than it should be. I was not able to use a spacer to put the chain ring where I wanted and the left side was 6mm short of letting the crank arm all the way in. I sent a message to see if I can get one with a longer spline, have not heard back yet. The crank is working, but I want the correct one.
Correction: spindle
Man that sounds like a pain in the a**, I understand you want the correct one but do you need a spacer? Hope they get back to you man, if I were you I would email EVERYDAY!! That is the only way we get stuff like that handled these days:)
Hi my name is Jhayz from toronto i really love watching ur video i learn a lot.. i have same gt aggressor you have and i upgrade my crank on same color that you have red.. I had a really bad day on taking out the old crankset that is square i have to use my electric cutter to cut the arms just to take it out.. its worth it on all the hard job that i did thanks to ur video hope u have a lot of video to come for gt aggressor... God bless always and safe ride....
Well Joseph we know all about struggling to get the old crankset and bb off🤣. I'm glad you found us don't be a stranger man. We have a whole playlist for the GT you might want to check out.

1. new shimano rotors
2. new specialized tires and tubeless set up
3. box three prime 9 1x9 drivetrain with new rear derailleur , shifter, and chain
4. cheap bolany air fork with remote lock out
5. cheap bucklos cranks with single speed chain ring and bottom bracket

3. multi tool
4. torque wrench
5. chain oil

Overall i’ve spend about $200 of my own money on tools and parts and i got about $300 worth of parts i asked for as gifts, i am 13 btw and bought the bike for 279.99 on sale so as a pretty good base i can build off of it and i now have basically i need on the bike, maybe i’ll get small things like handle bars and grips but i’ve upgraded all the components and am running smoothly
also everything i bought is from amazon and jenson usa
@Max Hansen That is awesome man! How much of the work have you done yourself? We are going to be doing a viewers bikes segment this winter, when we can't get out as much from the weather. We would love to possibly feature your bike and some of your story maybe. With you being so young you would need to ask a parent first of coarse. So if your interested we would just need an email with pictures of your bike and information, like what you just gave on here. If this is something that your interested in, than talk to a parent and get back to us, so we can give you our email. Either way great job on the budget upgrades, and keep us updated. Thanks little man, you made our night.
Great video Jeremiah ! I bought two Maxxis ardent tires 27.5 x 2.4 for my Gt and Now I’m watching this video saying wow that looks great so I think I’ll look into a new crank set in the near future thanks again man for all you do
No problem at all dude, im glad you got some sweet rubber! In the future let me know how they stick. Thank you so much for commenting and viewing man!!!againlol
Added Maxxis ikon for speed tires are awesome
@freddie A man just got some Goodyear tires gonna do a review and update on in the same video! and may or may have not picked up some Maxxis's!
Yeah I just ordered this...
the links you posted in the other video didn't work I got the blue for my grey and blue GT (same bike) don't see you posted an update but I still see it still on the bike... so It can't be that bad thx for being real dude and taking ur time... coffee beer coming ur way 🍻
Awesome to hear Rj-sent you some affiliate links on the last comment. Thanks for the heads up and good luck;) Also we have 5?? Or so updates on the GT, be sure to check them out in order, LATER MAN!! IXF CRANKSET- amzn.to/3mRIOx5
RISK 34-34MM HEADSET- amzn.to/3v73TYc
@@WOLFTICKVIDEOS I don't know maybe it's my phone I had no problem opening the ebay link and this looks like a good package deal but the links aren't working... Idk 🤔 and I've seen the update on the bike at least one or two videos I haven't heard anything about the crank being bad from this set
Hmm....Maybe the user;) Now the IXF has been solid man, its nice
Purple for the crank! :) Recently had to remove a steel without spider cassette off an Aluminum light weight hub. After the normal chain whip, the rivets holding cassette together had to be drilled out (the cogs had sunk in at different depths. Then remove freewheel with cassette on, place upwards on two peices of wood, and hammer the top of the freehub with another peice of wood to remove cog. Turns out the plastic spacers were also melted a bit too. After a little gap was made, each cog had to be pried off with a flat head screwdriver.
OH MY GOD!! I can totally see myself tearing into a cassette like that too!!🤣🤣 Thanks for the story and input brother.
I love all the loud colors man looks great. That baby blue GT is such a solid color as well
Haha when we got the red crankset we were going to paint them and then they grew on us. Thanks man!
A little pop of red looks good. That’s my vote. Your bike though. I have learned a few things about bicycles today. The oval. New to me. Positioning have no clue. May be preference may be a right way and a wrong way. Might say it the directions. Maybe. Who knows.?. Cattle syringe huh. Alrightay
Thanks for the input and I think i just might go with the red, now about that cattle syringe. I used it to help in bleeding my hydraulic brakes! Very budget that and some of dads aquarium tubing ha ha.
Y’all are a hoot. !!Now back to the cranks.
Appreciate that Burke, never planned on recording our encounters but ever since we have had our channel, we just hit record and go about our day. Glad you like the openers I know alot of people do and dont.
Watching this at the end of August, 2020, but have used a 4" cordless grinder with a cutoff wheel to remove some cranks, after stripping the threads on the crankarms removing them from a square taper BB...
Ouch!!!! Just went through this back and forth with a guy who did the exact same thing!!!! LOL Thnaks man for the comment no matter how late we still appreciate it!!
I used a C clamp to install my lower headset on my Schwinn Al Comp, and use it for other headsets, I also use Electrical tape for the chain slap....LOL... ( don't try this at home)... You and your dad make me laugh specially when Wolf is ranting about stuff . lol Keep it up!
Lol that's great creativity man!! Ha ha I love it sounds WOLFTICK THRU and THRU😂🤣🤣💯 Appreciate the love and see you around man!!
Haha I use a strap wrench to put my bottom bracket on .just food for thought I would leave one spacer on the drive side I noticed there was a bit of a chain alignment issue with my bike
This video was a thousand laughs.
Damb and i thought i was country!HA HA And as far as the bb goes its ok to have space between the inner pipe thing? Please explain
Are you asking if ok to have space between the bb shell the bb .if that's what you mean then it fine it's just mm my friend Or maybe I'm not understanding your question.
The inner shell that sits between and inside the big bearings. Its ok if the inner piece is not completely equal? picture this 0=0 compared to this 0I=0.Does that make sense? lol We may just have to go on a conference call!:)
Does a 🐻 shit in the woods . That's fine . That plastic tube is only serves the purpose of keep out moisture and debris but I feel as long as you have enough Grease you should have no worries 😁
Just ordered to change out my old square taper still gotta get the proper tools hopefully it goes smoothly
"PROPER" is the key!! HA HA GOOD LUCK!
I thought I saw the wrong video. From the start of the video, it's like the wizard Gandalf talking to his fellow Hobbits.
😂Welcome to Wolftick Videos🤣
You seem like a nice, cool guy...I’ll send you something soon enough! You should get some Hand up gloves and 5/10 shoes...love them both!!! 😀
Dude!!! Looking forward to it Jason. Ill do you proud brother, thanks again!
There is an arrow on the oval chainring that shows you that the crank arm should be where the arrow is that's where you'll get the vest performance from the chainring
LOL thanks man! It was right there in my face! I got that response a lot when it came out, appreciate it brother.👍
@@WOLFTICKVIDEOS yeah no problem
I used a piece if cardboard with an adjustable wrench to tighten a race face bb because of course I didn’t have the right size bb tool! I mean even Seth did it in one of his videos!
Dude thats a great ideaLOL. When you dont got the stuff make do!
It’s look good keep it red
Ehhh? I might lets see what the total is after a while so far black. Thanks for the opinion man, red isnt so bad?lol
Everyone should have a Frankenstein bike in their garage.
We AGREE!! LOL 😆
Hope your finger heals. Love the 'real world' install in this vid, fraught with the usual oops'es, injuries and 'which ways.' I fitted my IXF (red also) with the chain ring on the inside as well. Only comment I have about this product is that no two weights of any crank arm pairs are identical; I've purchased four. They range from 643 g (silver) to 696 g (gold).
Well thanks man! Love to try and show people what to expectLOL But thank you very much and I now have a scale and need to weigh everything like you! Ha Ha Bill hope you stick around a while man:)
Lol that 1st part reminded me of Captain and Gilligan from the show Gilligan island.
Hahaha we should be them for Halloween😂👍
Another great video! I ordered the same cranks for my bike and both of my boys' bikes and they've been good performers for us. I did shell my BB after about 3 months so I replaced it with a shimano saint and haven't had had any more problems. Neither of my sons had the same issue so I must have just got a bad BB. Keep up the good work!
Awesome man! Thank you for watching brother, the IXF stuff seems to be pretty legit. We are happy with our 3 or 4 of them!! Lol thanks for commenting and hope to see you Friday!! Himalo fork initial impressions and....10,000 sub teaser bike!!!
nice vid my man !! you earned my subscription
Hey man we appreciate that👍. Welcome to the #wolfticknation 🥰😂
Before i have used for one year Chinese crankset named Goldix, for about 5k km it was fine and then arm broken. Now I have found many good reviews about IXF crank and decided to try, maybe it will be stronger. I made weight comparision to old Goldix broken crank when IXF crank arrived and IXF crank seems to be stronger, arm is a little thicker. One IXF crank weight about 250 grams and Goldix arm is 210 grams or something like that so i'm happy that IXF has more material so it might be stronger. I will see how IXF works with time. Here you can see video of Chinese Goldix crank broken, my weight is about 70 kg and it looks like it broken with fatigue, i noticed on second arm that wasn't broken yet a crack in the same place where another arm broken so it wasn't problem with one arm only and after some time second arm would be broken too, Goldix crank is just too weak. I hope IXF will be better --> ua-cam.com/video/FNRnFlV2agQ/v-deo.html
Your dad is so funny in the beginning of the video
He is a mess man!!!
I used a tool for removing plastic caps in cars to remove a crank arm. You should put in a spacer on the drive side of your bottom bracket it just gives a small amount of clearance and it gives you a better chain line. On the chainring, I don't think it should matter just set it the way it feels comfortable.
For sure brother and thanks for the comment! A clip tool huh? I got a budget tool video coming out Friday I hope you watch, some pretty cheap good stuff. Got some good buys from harbor freight speaking of cars tools. But I tried to add a spacer and it made a funny sound, right after i did the video as a matter of fact. Then took her out and very clicky sound from the back, i removed then very quiet. So I think i will leave it for now , but thanks for looking out :)brother
Awesome vid thanks I’m going to buy this Crankset for my mtb 27.5
Right on man! Its a very smooth conversion, hope it goes well for ya:) And also hope you use the link;);) Thanks for watching man
I reviewed these on my page and they so far have held up great.
Cool man I watched the video, thanks for the update:) Hope i get some life out of them as well, hope on putting some on other bikes if thats the case
did that crankset come with the hollow bracket? I am looking to do the exact same upgrade on my GT Aggressor pro
Yeas it did, there is also an option to order the chainring as well. Here is an affiliate link brother:https :) //ebay.us/BUTJWH
Not so much crazy tools... But I often find myself doing some woodworking if I don't have the correct tool. Just a round little piece with a hole though it and some threaded rod will make for a nice press to get your headset gently pushed in place.
Nice to hear man, thank for the ideas!!! HA HA!
Nice look in your bike, I have it in the same way you installed chainring behind the crank pedals, I have the same brand but mine are purple and to give a little match I bought the handlebar stem in purple also.
Nice video my friend , keep them coming 👏👏
Good to know man. I was wondering you told me that the "pedals didnt match the purple", and i was thinking what purple?lol That explains it! Thanks alot brother i appreciate you man.
@@WOLFTICKVIDEOS anytime my friend
Love the content guys :) you guys are always talking shit to each other which is hilarious and then all the sweet sweet upgrades u put on :) I mess around with my bike like that too. Very cool
Well thanks Grudzien, its a working relationship between father and son and most of the time we do not get along!!!!LOL But glad you appreciate that, oh and the upgrades too😁😁😁
@@WOLFTICKVIDEOS absolutely:) I will make sure to talk to my buddies about your channel and get everyone to subscribe!
I think what you’re doing is awesome and I wish u guys the best of luck. Thanks for the awesome content. Later
I got this chainset in China (cheap here) because my heavy square taper oem chainset on a cheap bike gave up.
The left crank arm was bent. It took two rides and about 25km to "straighten" it 😂
Approx 600km of road/commuting later, with nothing bigger than jumping off kerbs, the bearings in the bottom bracket are starting to make little clicking sounds.
I'd say it was value for money compared to the cost of Shimano back home in the West. And I'd also not want to be leaving the ground off road unless I was the weight of an xc whippet.
For sure man, glad you gave it a chance and its worth the money, mine has been flawless so far and it is def cheaper than the alternative cranksets, well as far as hollow goes. Thanks for commenting and watching man, stay safe in CHINA
Great video! But is it plastic?? I rec’d my IXF and the bottom bracket is plastic. The bearing rings are plastic as is the tube that encases the crank shaft. Was your bottom bracket plastic and if so, how is it holding up??
Hey brother, the bb is aluminum and is holding up fine, this is the second one though. First one I replaced after it had a crack in it after about 6 months, so b on the lookout. Really though is just a separator to the outside moisture:)
I just installed those last weekend in black, I love the way my GT feels now vs the 3x. Red looks good but maybe I’d do black or light blue flat pedals.
Now that idea I like! But it kinda looks like a mess and it almost works. Probably will paint them, thanks for the thought man!
FordRacerForever Yup...just get some nice black crankbrothers stamp 1 flat pedals...there a decent price and look sharp!!! 😁👍
Hell yeah all sonds good!
Did you have any problems on the 8th gear?
Well I didnt get a chance to run it with the 8spd. Planned on it but waiting on parts got me!lol So i can tell you I had problems after i upgraded to a 10 spd on the 10th gear with a spacer. So now i have removed the spacer and have not had a chance to ride yet. I think you will be fine with the 8. Thanks for the question and hope it was helpful. Watch the latest video if you havent already to see what im talking about. 159.00 budget drivetrain test.
I don’t hate the red cranks on the blue frame, but the pedals throw the color scheme off. Thanks for making these videos man. Love my Aggressor Pro so much that I bought my wife one too AND my daughter a GT Stomper (she’s 11 and has been bitten by the MTB bug). Take care bro.
Hell yeah man thanks for the comment! And hope yall watch Wolftick Videos together! Just wait for my next bike my dad bought me!Budget Budget Budget its a backup bike should be out soon! Thanks again man stay safe
Can’t wait to see it.
Cool dude, I can safely say "I CAN!"LOL
Is that RTV on the lower chain guide to protect from chain slap?
Silicone stuff? No brother that is eurathane, its a windshield soft adhesive. But yes it is for chainslap. Does very well
Usually there is a little blip on the chainring that lines up with the crankarm. You want to be pulling more chain when the arm is at the 3 o'clock position.
👍👍Thanks for the Input man:) Since then we have found an arrow/blip. Thanks for Looking out Charlie
@@WOLFTICKVIDEOS I still have a tripple set of BioPace chainrings from my first mountain bike: a 1986 Univega
JESUS!!! LOL 1986 :) I was not even born YET!!! ha ha "Damn kids, Ive got chainrings older than you!!"
That's a cool tutorial dude! Iam changing my crankset for the third time now and I just bought a ZTTO SLR2, I just wait to recieve in few days. I'm going to upgrade my 3/9 crankset to a 1/11, I think it's gonna be cool! And by the way, I used a blowtorch for my crankset's bearing ;)
Dude that sounds like a great build!! Thanks for checking us out and we will check yours out as well:) Very interesting on the BLOWTORCH!!!!LOL Very cool as well man thanks for sharing ha ha ha😂😂😂😂 Let us know how it goes brother:)
@@WOLFTICKVIDEOS I will make a video when I recieve my Gear. You can even check other video on my channel where I rebuild entire bikes if you want. 😉
Sounds good man! Will do, thanks man
I would think leaving the spacers in if it works would add more stability spreading the bearings out further and less twisting pressure when I pedal ape (chicken noise) up some steep hills.
😂😂 Very good thinking!! Lol🐔😉😉
Hey man...love the videos!!! I got a few hardtail bikes too...I have a 2019 Giant talon 1 and a GT aggressor comp! 😁👍👍
Nice man! You ever wanna sell that comp let me know I need another project bike!lol Thanks for watching man and hope you get something out of it, if you havent subbed be sure to please! Be safe and ride on man:)
Lmao nahhh it’s my new project lol...it’s pretty nice bike...I got in the satin black.
Sweeeet! Im jealous man, looking for my next as well!LOL:)
I 3D printed a BB wrench for my IXF crankset installation. I already had the filament and figured, why spend 8 bucks for a tool I'll probably only use once? PLA+, worked like a charm.
6:15 I did the exact same thing, except my thumb was in the way and the edge of one of those holes on the inner side of the crank sliced me right open. =/
awwww man 3d printed!!!!:) Thats way to cool lol. I would be so dangerous with something like that ha ha, I would build me a new bike!!! And man oh man does that suck with getting slit open, my hands I thing have enough wear and tear to sustain most dumb stuff but its always those little things that get you!!:) Later man and thanks for watching
Can you share the file for that please?
The high point of the oval chain ring goes perpendicular to the cranks
LOL Appreciate it man, think Ive gotten it down, I think???😂😂😂appreciated brother. Love the name by the way
So what was the consensus on how the chain ring should be I bought an oval one as well and curious which way is best...
LOL the CONSENSUS IS IN!! The chainring has a small arrow showing were to align it on the spider:) But long side with parrallel with the crankarm.
The original crankset wasn't very easy to remove. The crank side stripped out. The other side no problem. Had to use a cut off tool on a grinder. But the bottom bracket was finger loose.
God man that sounds like a total mess!!!! LOL Been right there with ya man! Had a guy recently say the exact same thing, he sais man do the threads go completely through cause I think I just stripped them if so ha ha ha! Thanks fir the comment brother
I just did this too. Completely stripped the crank arm
I installed mine with 1 spacer on the drive side like a lot of people told me to do, my chain line is a little off in the biggest 2 gears, would removing the spacer “hurt” anything. My chainring is already on the inside of the spider. My other option would be to get spacers or a chainring that already has an offset. I’m just worried the way it is now with the spacer on the bottom bracket the chain will really wear my drivetrain when I go to a 10 speed
My Dad just brought the same thing up to me when we were testing the GT. When mine is in the lowest gear it is at a pretty steep angle and it starts to click. Much like you I had people telling me to run the spacer, but I'm taking mine off to see if it helps. I don't think that people are telling us wrong from their experience, I just think it was on other bikes that may have needed it. I will probably include some of this in a upcoming video somehow, but I will let you know my findings sooner, after some testing of what I find.
WOLFTICK VIDEOS I did a little remedial math and research on my end, the bottom bracket we have calls for a 48.5 mm chain line and as per the video I linked. I measured out a 49.5 chain line I’m wondering if spacers between the spider and the chain ring will get us to where we need to be plus a little extra. And congratulations on over 1000 subscribers, keep up the great content a lot of people have these entry-level bikes and are very interested in upgrading them. ua-cam.com/video/0lN3Zf9gpp8/v-deo.html
Great! Hope everything works out on your end, mine is doing wonders! And thank you for the congrats , it means alot from someone that is a subscriber themselves.
Always the best introduction videos ever. 💀😂😂
Thats what im talking about!!! Makes us feel good about going through all that footage we film and hope theres something LOL thanks alot brother!
I've been upgrading my GT aggressor X to a 1x9 drivetrain I've done most of it ie cassette chain chainring and rear mech but I'm still running the square taper bottom bracket in a week or so I will be upgrading the crankset to an IXF crankset with hollowtech bottom bracket as I want to do away with the square taper they just look so dated and horrible
I used some old mtb bars on the allen key as I didn't have enough leverage to undo the nut holding the crank on
Wish UA-cam could have picture sharing would love to show a picture of my bike with all its budget upgrades
Man that sounds totally BUDGET!! LOL Now when we start doing Viewers rides once again it would be nice to see it:)
@@WOLFTICKVIDEOS are you guys on twitter or another social media platform
Hahaha well you never know😜
I'm late but you can use oven cleaner and itll strip the anodizing right off and itll be raw aluminum again
Dude thats ok! And let em tell you that just got me EXCITED!! LOL Thanks man!
To install my headset and bearings, I used 2 pieces of scrap aluminum and a vice clamp in place of a headset tool.
Funny thing is it worked perfectly fine.
Ha ha ha holy crap! I thought of using a wood clamp as well, but aluminum?? Lol very creative man, thanks.
@@cmelton.photography ha ha ha ok Caleb!! Ha ha whatever you say😉😉😉🤣
those yellow pedals are awesome with the red!
Ha ha I'm glad someone else liked them yellowish pedals with the red crank arms. We were big on it as well, but some did not like it so much haha. Thanks man.
@@WOLFTICKVIDEOS sometimes you have to break the rules! Haha

Hey brother love your channel and have learned a lot in a short time from you. To say the least.lol I have a question for you and I'm sorry to bother ya cause I reckon ppl are asking ya them all day. Anyway, I have the ixf crankset like you. Have had them for 6 months now n no problems til now.lol I took them apart tonight to check my bearings out and now I have these 2 bushing type things n have no idea where they go. I'll try n send a pic of them if I can. Any help would bw so appreciated buddy and Thank you!! Keep them videos coming n safe riding. Right On.
Sounds good man, thank you for watching and hopefully we can get your question answered, the only bushing style things I can think of are like almost bronze style pieces that go over the shaft outside the bearings, but I could be wrong...
@wolftick what pedals are on this bike in the video, are the neon green or yellow, i want to put them on my huffy scout that has the neon green brake calipers
Here you go brother, good luck and sorry it took so long to answer!!! Affiliate Link

there is a complete tool set you can buy for around £49 on amazon with everything needed to fix a mountain bike well everything except a crown race puller
Hmmm. Thanks MidiMurder. Been looking into a multi bike tool, ill check it out! Thanks for the idea & watching, hope you subbed!!!:)
Were you get the bottom hollow bracket at? What brand is it? My tapered bracket sucks crank arm keeps falling off . It’s all jack up
There should be a link in the description. I think the option of the crankset with the BB sold out, but thats how I got mine is with the set. Make sure that it all comes together if you order them. Let me know what you find and I will try to help if you need it.
hi how is the IXF crank and the bottom bracket is it still holding since May 2020? I am about to get one too thank you
Hey brother, the IXF and all its parts are still alive and kicking!! LOL Its a great set that I have not serviced since we installed them. Thank you!
I'd match the frame color on that crank with some black pedals. 👍
Man, after a few years it got to be voted red 😳 lol thanks for the input brother.
Hey , quick question. I bought all the parts to do the 1 x conversion (same crankset and BB) . Did you have to buy anything additional ? My local bike shop says that the crankset is not compatible with my bike (GT agressor Pro) and I'm lost because you have it installed on your bike. I have the BB, Crankarms , Oval chainring ...not sure what else I'm missing. I thought it was straight forward.
If you got the ixf hollow bb and the ixf crankset then why would they say that? You should not have any problems at all. I mounted my chainring on the inside of the crank arms and I didn't use any spacers. It lines up perfectly. Some people use the spacers on the drive side, but I didn't need too. If you got any more questions, feel free don't hesitate to ask.
@@WOLFTICKVIDEOS hey ! I managed to put on the IXF crankset but my chain drops everytime I spin the pedals fast or backwards. some folks are saying its a derailer compatibility issues. I figured I ask you since you have the same bike and set up. did you need to adjust your derailer again after installation ? changed the chain or anything else? I have a 32T oval chainring. if it helps lol
So I'm guessing by reading this you did not shorten your chain. If you didn't already, you need to shorten your chain by 4 links. You will need a chain breaker, and a master link. Once you do this if everything lines up, you should be good. I had maybe 2 chain drops once I shortened my chain and went to a 1X8, and that was some hard riding. Let me know what else I can answer, and I will try my best to help you. Sometimes it takes me a while too get back to people, because I pretty much only get time at night, sometimes late.
@@WOLFTICKVIDEOS I did not shorten my chain LOL. I forgot about that. Thanks man ! I'll try this tonight and get back to you. I really appreciate all your help.#bigfan
@@WOLFTICKVIDEOS I ended up removing the links like you suggested and it ran smoothly but dropped when I got to the largest cog. They suggested using a 9 speed chain and a chain guide. Thanks for all your help !
Help🤦🏻♂️....so my son and i are pretty new to mtb and definitely this channel. Seeing a dad and son cracking on each other is so real life relatable. Any who so we budget upgraded to these cranks on both our gt's and i have a few questions which kinda went back and forth with all the comments. 1st after shortening the stock chain 4 links did you have any alignment issues? The shifter is not going into the gears correctly and its noisy(yikes). Spacer or no spacer on the drive side? I don't see a chain guide in the video so I'm guessing not an issue with chain drops? Also the non drive side crank is it suppose to fit flush against the inner tube so i can screw in the dust cap? I'm currently not using any spacers and the crank arm is not flush. Is this normal??? Thank you guys for your help.
First of all no spacers and I mounted the chainring on the inside of the crankarms. But to answer no alignment issues. No issure of chain drops after I shortened the chain, but everything got better when I upgraded the groupset. You may want to look into the Acolyte? Its pretty hard to beat man. What you need to do is setup the chain to were it fits straight from your chainring to your cassette, meaning the 4th or 5th cog. Then try, but we are no bike mechanics!!LOL Just a little experienced:) Good luck and let us know if it works! Thanks for watching us two!!
Keep up the good work!!! 🤙
Hell yeah man gotta get that stuff in the mail coming sooner than late!
Did you end up using no spacers , I’m doing the same conversion on my aggressor pro. Thanks
Yes sir, I ended up putting one on the drive side in the end.
Hi, my bottom bracket is clicking alot.. and im guessing it will need replacing.. are these new bottom brackets better than the square one that it comes with? becuase i am having a hard time finding the right size and was thinking of just getting the new type..
Will def have to be replaced, the newer style is a lot lighter and usually lasts a while when it comes to the bearings.People do not like the square tapered cranks because they usually strip out...Here is an affiliate link and hope it helps!! Good Luck and thank you for watching- amzn.to/3mfIkBQ
I'm looking at these cranks with a 32t to replace my factory 28t 1X10. Will I need to lengthen the chain to go up 4 teeth in the front ?
Most likely yes, but if it were me I would that minimal of a tooth count I would get an oval and see of you can get away with that. Good luck man and let us know how it goes, I am curious!
The chainring should have a mark (dot or notch). That mark needs to be aligned with the crank arm.
Thanks brother, it took a minute to figure all that crap out! LOL Appreciate the input
@@WOLFTICKVIDEOS Same here! Thx for the videos! Keep'em coming.
my craziest thing was to use my freezer.
I pout a hex key in the freezer for few minutes, I put warm water on frame, and undid a bolt, which Trek over tightened, probably Giant cus they manufacturer Trek frames and build them.
that thing just would not move, it should have been 10nm, but it probably was past 30 closer to 40 or 50 I guess. probably manual work no machine or torque wrench was used, just crazy torque by hand.
Wow that sounds lika mess dude! lol Ive done similar stuff at the body shop, good thinking Johannes
I know you've updated since (been browsing through lots of your vids and they are awesome) but were you pairing this with the stock rear cassette and derailleur in this video? I'm getting ready to do this upgrade but probably won't upgrade anything at the back until next season. I'm curious of what chain legnth adjustments you had to do if any with this crankset. Thanks!
welp I guess I posted too soon lol. Just got to the end where you mentioned about the new derailleur.
HA HA!! Thanks for doing a little more digging man:) If you plan on running this with your stock setup, it will not be a problem. Checkout one of our drivetrain videos were we shorten chains to fit:) You will need to but, lets see...Hang the chain around your chainring and around your biggest cog on the cassette, no derailleur. Then touch link to link, count 4 links down and BAM!! Oh and be sure to get some tools and a 8spd masterlink! Good Luck

the triangle on the chainring goes behind the pedal arm
;) Thanks man! Finally got that figured out now LOL:)
Hello there , I just bought my bike today already going to do some upgrades, I want the 1/x drive. I went through the comments to find a link to the product ebay link was broken but I found one on Amazon, but my question is about the oval ring, are the hole spacing the same and can I run stock chain with the oval ring ? , sorry I'm new to the cycling world , and where I bought the bike I was explicitly told not to modify the bike in any way
Hey brother, thank you for letting is know the links are dead. We will fix that, now regarding the chain, it will work with an oval without issue. Just make sure to size the chain. We have a video on that 😉
My ixf came with plastic spacers, luckily I didn't need them.
Really lol, dude you dont know what you will get, ive had several with plastic and most with aluminum? Its like a box of 🤤🤤
Loving the videos man🤙🏼
Hot springs real soon!!
For sure man! Glad you are watching and hope to hit Hot Springs up soon. You busy this weekend?Might otta take a trip saturday! Let me know man
WOLFTICK VIDEOS dude I’m down for Saturday! I’ll give you a call this evening
WWWOOOOOHOOOOOO!!!!! SEND IT SON!!! IMMA LEARN YA
Is there any chance to replace that bottom bracket with original Shimano Hollowtech II? Are they the same or is that crankset compatible only with their own bottom bracket? thanks! Also, can i use hollowtech || wrench to tighten bb?
I would say it would fit, I am pretty sure it is compatible. It would be a risk I would take. Now as far as the wrench it looks like the same exact one?? :) I would go for it man, but I have never had it before. Good luck and I know the sram is the same as an IXF
Hey jere. How did you like the ixf crankset. I'm thinking of getting one. Any problems?
I live live brother, please checkout the latest video of the GT Laguna were we install. They are bulletproof and I am a huge fan. Easy to install and you can save some weight 2!
I’ve just down the exact same thing the spacer has pushed out the other side now I can’t get it back in!! What did you do!? 😭 needs to be in cause it’s wobbly otherwise
LMAO!!!!!! Sorry but you had me in tears with that emoji. I can picture it, wow. But man i wish i could help, really its not that hard to put back in at all, i just picked that thang up off the floor spit on it and vwohla! Grease it up son! Let me know, damb you are hilarious.
WOLFTICK VIDEOS 😂😂😂 it didn’t help that I first put the crank arms on the wrong sides ffs! .... should not of had those beers. Anyway I fixed it/bodged it in the end all good (for now) lol!!
Appreciate the update man!!!! And drink afterwords, i know i know not as much fun, but holysh** wrong sides ha. You may just have a problem?LOL
I tried to look for your followup video & couldn't find it. How is this crankset? Is it still on your bike? What is your long term verdict of the crankset? People have complained about the bottom bracket but I haven't heard any complaints about the crankset itself, what do you think? Any information you can provide is good as I am considering trying this bottom bracket with a shimano xtr bottom bracket possibility.
Hey brother, crankset is an ace:) Atleast for me it has been fine, no stripping out or anything. Just did a GT updates vid a while back and as you can see still on there! Its a very nice cheaper alternative and gets the job done, since then we have ordered about 3 more:) Thanks for the comment man:)
@@WOLFTICKVIDEOS Thanks for the response. One more thing, did you use the bottom bracket that came with it? Or a different one? I'm trying to decide wether I use the BB that comes with it or just go for a shimano XTR or something nice.
Went with the one that came with it.
I just used the Bosch demolition saw to cut off a crank set
I think you should paint them black and I think that the way you have the chairing is correct. The craziest thing I’ve done to my bike is probably is my stock crank fell off so I just bashed it back on with a rock.
LOL! Same here man the woods were loud that day. I think I otta go with black as well maybe a matte. I dont know lets see what everyone else says. Oh and im with you on the chainring brother, you wouldent believe the amount of comments it has stirred up, maybe were wrong?
I had to use a drill file to remove my locked up pedal the threads on the inside where stripped so I grinder it out so I could have a flat side to get it off with a big wrench
Nooo! Thats terrible man:) I hate when threads strip for sure. Then of course accidently cross threading is a pain in the A**!
hahahaha. Back in the days, Pipe wrench, grip players and hammers was all I needed..lol. But now on modern bikes and components you better use the proper tools. It's fast and easier to use to get the job done...
For sure man, it's nice to have the modern tools but sometimes you have to resort to the good oll blue handled channel locks!! You know what I'm talking about😂😂
I installed my lower external bottom headset cup with a block of wood and a hammer. Didn’t want or need to purchase a headset press tool.
Golly that sworse then me! LOL I thought a screwdriver was crazy but a 2X4 ? LMAO!!!
used a can opener to tighten a seat once hahahaha....I think I need a new crank on my bike it's starting to make some wicked noises on the hills....
😂😆Now how in the world did you do that???? Can Opener! HA, and for the crankset OUCH! Gotta get you something built one day these days especially with that sweet little bit your work throws in $$$
Does the ixf crankset come with the bottom bracket and will it fit my GT Pro Aggressor
Yes and should! Good luck and checkout the affiliate link please:) It fit mine and still use it today:)
Great job man have the same bike upgrading mine as well
Cool man! Glad to hear another GT rider well man hope you have subbed and continue to watch for more aggressor videos!!!
