"Is this the character...are they a hero, a coward?" Oh man, I never thought about it like that when considering a sprite's run cycle. I'd just hope that it turned out okay, didn't even think about the personality behind it. I'll have to consider that now!
The "naked" animation from min 16:48 looks more alive than me holy shit how can those weird drawings convey someone running so convincingly, awesome job dude
what I learned halfway through this, is I needed to stop focusing on your pixel by pixel movements and start thinking of the big picture and how I can apply this on my own. Awesome video, I learned a lot, though its not great now, you can actually tell my character is running now haha
I'm so impressed at 5:45 that I can see the run animation already with just a single swinging line and a bobbing circle. It looks so easy and I know it's not
Now this is learning. By watching you i can create my own visual because i understand it, not only imitating some artist without knowing the meaning of their actions. Keep your spirit sir! 🙏🏻
ive been watching through the pixel art class playlist, and i think my favorite part of these videos are the chiptune remixes of crypt of the necrodancer songs in the background
that bounding box technique is smart; I like the idea of having that freedom to work, but having the visual reminder of the space you're trying to stay within
hey dude, just wanted to say that I am developing a game right now for the first time and I can not explain how much youre helping me. Thanks a lot, I hope that youre having a great day!
That's so fascinating. I decided to learn this to make my own games. After 19 years of playing them I want to have a side project. Thing is I haven't learn anything like that. I'm a programmer but not an artist. But I'll give it my all. This helps so much so thanks for showing this off. You're amazing. Cheers
your Tutorials are one of the best pixelart tuts out there, and also your art style is amazing , for me am still advancing 16x16 pixelart but once i feel i'm good with i will start with a bigger size and follow along all your tutorials :) . thank you so much
Wow, I've been developing in Unity for the past 4 years and have made a few games with pixel art, but my animation was still terrible 😅. But after I watched this video, I made the best running animation I have ever made! (Even if it's still in its rough stage) Thank you so much!
thank you so much for creating this channel and for the constant and amazing content. I feel inspired by it and I've been learning a lot!! this video here is a true gem!
Wanna thank you so much an old cartoonist i recently wanted to discover the world of digital/pixel animation .You videos are very well done and you are not only an amazing artist but an amazing teacher. Thank you so much for introducing me to this fascinating new world of art !
Thanks very much. This tutorial is amazing. I think you're the best pixel-artist on whole youtube! I never seen animation what looks greatest than your
Thanks! This was eye-opening. Not sure if I´ll be able to reproduce it because it takes a deep understanding of the movement but it definitely made me better.
Thank you so much for uploading all these, really inspiring and entertaining. You're a great teacher as well. Hope to catch you in one of your upcoming streams!
this video was great! I followed the tutorial and made my first ever pixel art and first ever run cycle and it managed to turn out really good????? how
Im halfway and you might correct this by the time the video is through. But I noticed the legs are moving in sink with the arms instead of opposite. This is great process though. I love animation.
Found your channel yesterday and m8 you have been so helpfull! Thanks for all the help you are providing. I'm new to this but it's super fun and super fun to learn from u! Thanks!
Thanks man, I'm a beginner at animation, I've been using drawing software and making frames I cant even animate in layers lol. Your videos are helping me understand faster techniques for animating because I work very inefficiently. I have a question, Can you please explain more of how moving frames foward and back to offset your animation works? I kind of got it the second time you did it but I'm not too sure, one of my issues is with getting timing right and every time I have the issue, I start erasing and redrawing everything. (Sorry if I made you cringe by saying that)
hi i love your videos and theyve been super helpfull for me as im starting out trying to learn all this stuff, heres some small constructive criticism i hope its taken well because like i said i really love your stuff, BUT with this video, i feel like youre moving very fast during the head bobbing construction and your giving very little commentary what youre doing frame by frame there so i found it very hard to follow along with your thought process and what direction you were moving the head in the different frames because i had to constantly look down to see what fram you were editing and by the time i saw id have to look back up to see what direction you moved the head which i often missed (because like i said its moving very fast) which led me to having to constantly rewind and rewatch the same segment over and over to try and figure out what was going on, so my tip and hop is if you at some point remake the video/make a similar one maybe do a little more commentary on what youre actually doing it would help immensely. That said i reiterate love your stuff and appreciate the hell out of you for making videos to help beginners like me out!
I have a hard time planning the movement. I can tell you know exactly what you're planning for each frame, but I'm just seeing random adjustments to the head and arms. IMO, it's not explained clearly. I'm seeing how you process the run cycle, but less the theory and planning behind it. I did learn from how you do the process in Aseprite though.
Loving your videos, only recently stumbled across them as I want to take game development more seriously. I have no artistic bone in my body but I want to learn. What software do you recommend for a beginner?
It's kinda funny how "easier" it is to animate a character as a sprite running/standing or doing anything else in pixel art, while with actual animation (high resolution, using different pens and stuff) it feels super hard, i wonder if i could use this method to help animate my characters on flipaclip better
Hi Adam, what is that Aseprite's function like a mask between the Layer1 and Layer2 at 1:45? That function that turned red the background. (Sry for my bad English)
Short question did you mix front hand and back hand? Because as far as I can see your front leg moves with the front hand, or I am just bad ^^ nevermind. I have to learn to comment after I finisht the video ^^
ive been using asersprite for some time now , its a little weird at first mainly cause the icons are so small even in this tutorial i have to go back in the video a lot just to see the little things that change in the timeline.
I can't even begin to express how fascinating and educational this is. Obviously you're an artist but you are also an ... artist.
you're*
@@socio637 Thanks.
@@socio637 By the way, do you just go through things and correct grammar on 6+ month old comments? That seems like a pretty weird hobby.
@@zolan4277 it's a hobby of unpaid employees of oxford university 🤣
@@samratix2497 That caught me off guard and I actually snorted when I laughed at that.

This made me realise how much meaning is conveyed by movement alone. Amazing stuff.
NEW MISSION: like every one of his videos so he goes up in the UA-cam algorithm, so he gets the recognition her deserves!
I'm a total beginner and I must say, animation looks incredibly intimidating. Even when it is so nicely explained
Dude, please keep these videos coming. This is great stuff. Crazy how much I learn from just one of your videos.

Really informative! Thank you very much! You’ve saved me so much time in my learning journey I’m about to begin!
I was confused for 8 minutes straight because of that off handswing. Questioned everything. Ty.
You gotta say it still kinda looked good even though it was completly off.
muito obrigado cara, essa aula me ajudou bastante a fazer meu primeiro sprite do personagem correndo, muito bom trabalho :)

He caught it at the end. I sat through that whole run cycle session watching backwards legs and arms.
I am very noob in the draw but I love your style I will learn that art style cuz I love it so much
Great tutorial man! i should try this workflow, usually i am just doing the final thing straightaway

I'm curious why you start your animations from the extremities instead of the center of mass. Maybe I need to go look at your other animation video...
Loving your videos, only recently stumbled across them as I want to take game development more seriously. I have no artistic bone in my body but I want to learn. What software do you recommend for a beginner?
The software aseprite looks great and im looking into getting it
Amazing tutorial mate
great stuff! but can you upload a video how to do an idle animation?
Hey man, love your stuff
Can u tell me what is the best /most aesprit-ish pixelart app for the ipad?
Lol, ok so I used to use Usain Bolt for reference because you know, Usain Bolt. But as you said, just go with Forrest Gump instead, can't ever fail.
It's kinda funny how "easier" it is to animate a character as a sprite running/standing or doing anything else in pixel art, while with actual animation (high resolution, using different pens and stuff) it feels super hard, i wonder if i could use this method to help animate my characters on flipaclip better
very good video bro but you have to talk when you do a procedure because later people get confused and don't know what you're doing
Amazing !!!
you should make sections
😄
I like you very much Adam, you're cool and it's great that you exist. K, byeeee.

Thank you so much 🙏
thank you so much
do you export full animations into the game your making or do you upload a sprite sheet and manually assign the animations to run buttons?
Amazing tutorial, very helpful! What program are you using for this?
thank you!
Short question did you mix front hand and back hand? Because as far as I can see your front leg moves with the front hand, or I am just bad ^^
nevermind. I have to learn to comment after I finisht the video ^^
So front legs and arm layers go in front of body layer and back go behind right?
Good tutorials! but chatting window blocks the screen :(
From 7:00 to 7:02, how did you fill in the motion blur (not sure if that is what it is actually called) like that?
ive been using asersprite for some time now , its a little weird at first mainly cause the icons are so small even in this tutorial i have to go back in the video a lot just to see the little things that change in the timeline.
what program is he using? looks pretty nice and easy to use
with pixel art animation would you do it on 24 frames a second if its for a game ?
Thanks u so much :3
he said, just like this, very easy.
when you did,
Ótimo vídeo obrigado
Nice tutorial congrats... this is asesprite?
Yes it is
Hola que medida es recomendable para hacer un personaje en pixel art
I want to know how you assign the hotkeys, can you share it?
