Jack was always chasing after more, something he didn't have, whether it was fame or musical perfection or whatever, that ambition drives him and makes him the great musician he is today. The line, "Easy come, easy go, Be a star of the show, I'm giving up all I know to get more", says a lot. In the end, his constant drive for more caused him to lose the most important thing in his life, his soulmate. She was sitting next to him the whole time he was searching for more. Meg is the Rita that Jack couldn't hold onto in the end. The whole song is a beautiful ode to her and their past and regrets of what could have been. A truly heartfelt moment that I feel honored and privileged that they shared with us.

She loved him so much she got on stage with him and helped him fulfill his dream. Then she eloquently let him go to fly into the stratosphere. The director said they had just had a party that night celebrating the 10 year anniversary of the band so I am sure there there was nostalgia but she was not happy. She's exhausted. The romance part of their relationship is like 7 years in the past. She's tired of touring and she's probably tired of Jack. People have said that she would cry in the middle of a set towards the end. Not surprised that 10 years later, she doesn't answer his phone calls.

Anyone claiming Jack is heartless here, as he ironically sings his heart out next to someone he deeply cares for and made a lot of wonderful music with, just know you are terrible at reading social cues. Not trying to be mean, but the way he held her at the end and she put her hand on his arm shows how much they both deeply care for one another, and are bonded for life, even if apart. Also, humans show emotions in so many different ways, but even without giving that caveat, I felt like he was full of emotion here. Quite possibly the most emotional I have ever seen him.
