@@anmoldani6258 The whole point of the movie is that Arthur wasn't born a psychopath. He was mentally ill, but harmless. No thats when shit got boring just like this whole damn movie. You can totally see the budget of this movie. It's just a camera following one guy around and that's it nothing else. Honestly I think it just made so much money because of the anticipation not the movie itself. I know nobody that has seen this movie twice. It's just that super boring.
i was kind of disappointed he didn't do it with a vanishing pencil. with the rubber tip as the stabbing point. this is not the sadism that i was used to, i find this too soft. then again, this is THE origin story of joker, he wasn't THAT advanced. YET.
I just noticed that after he shot Murray, his laugh is different from all the other laughs earlier in the film. The laugh at the end was authentic, meaning he’s finally himself and not a facade.
Somehow, it was the most human laugh he had! The rest was because of his 'condition' that society created. In this scene, he's decided to hell with society and is laughing genuinely, because he chose to. Brilliant.
Oh my gosh! “Society society society”. Society didn’t do shit. People get beat up, abused all the time. Not everyone turns into a sociopathic killer. He knows the difference between right and wrong but he doesn’t care. This movie was for children who haven’t seen the real world and are amazed at this little glimpse of the “other side”. It’s sad so many applause the movie. His acting was great though 👍🏽
@@Em-os1yz "Its so sad so many applause the movie". I'm pretty sure you're the child if you cannot understand that this is art, not a documentary. Its a fictional film with hidden meanings and messages hence we were engaging in complex analyses of the themes, the symbolization of the character's body movement, etc. You're not supposed to interpret all of that as "This movie is bad because it tells us to put clown makeup on and kill everyone". Lol.
@ musikkforeva You said I was spamming in all the comments but here you are... replying to me...again. My thoughts on this movie won’t change. It’s cool you like it enough to defend it in a UA-cam comment section... twice. I understand the meaning, really I do. I just don’t like how it’s a cliche movie. There have been at LEAST 3 (that I know of) like it in the past half a year. (only with different characters, same story though). Your thoughts on this movie won’t change either, and I respect that. It’s not like I hate the whole thing. Just the cringe parts... which is actually a lot for me. That’s how my brain works, I apologize. Have a nice day.
Joaquin Phoenix is soo fantastic. He seemed genuinely upset like he was about to cry when he said “if it was me dying on the sidewalk you’d walk right over me...”
What the joker is highlighting the breakdown of the traditional values in the west. The joker is as creation of the hedonistic selfish culture that is overtaking the west. All throughout the movie Arthur is failed again and again, hoodlums beat him up, thugs in suits do so as well, government shuts down his treatment and he has no family or support system to turn to. All through the movie no one helps him, people on the street walk by as he is beaten, his "friend" at work gets him fired because he is "wierd", and his family situation is all kinds of mess up................ the end might have been avoided if anyone or thing had actually provided support, instead they do nothing and eventually Arthur snaps completely.
I don't think it's meant to show nervouseness. He's in a fight or flight mode, an adrenaline rush. it's the cause of the tenseness and shaking, I can almost feel it.
Rewatching this clip because “if it was me dying on the sidewalk you would walk right over me” is exactly how it is seeing how all of a sudden the cops seem to care about murder victims as long as they’re rich
2:50 Seriously you can look into joker’s face and see he’s thinking to himself you’re not even going to hear my side of the story or even cared why I did it, you’re basically agreeing that with those 3 men who almost BEAT ME to death.....now I look at you as one of them *5 seconds later* bang‼️
He almost says it like a child too. He looked up to Murray as a father figure in his absence of a father in his life. This seemed like Joker's realization that even the man he looked up to his entire life is just as awful as the rest of them. Very brilliant voice acting there and spoke a lot.
It's just a reminder that when you look for the "awful" people in society, you're going to inevitably find those who are "not much better" and then you'll start going full vigilante on them too-perpetuating the cycle.
@@desipop3654 This was a great movie - One of my all time favourites because of the character depth. But I watch Nolan movies for a different reason than a character study. I thought Tenet was amazing. Same as a Tarantino movie... you watch it for a completely different reason than a movie like this. Depends on your taste and the mood you're in.
I will forever love how he refused to mention they were beating the living hell out of him and he killed the first two originally in self defense and went with how he felt while killing the third one.
The show is about people's rejection of actual reality in favor of their own take. By this point he didn't care anymore to try and reject Murray's presumptions. There's an earlier scene where he finds a photo signed T.W or something and he just throws it away. It's not important, no one around him care about what actually happens anyway. And in the comics... Batman is a detective.
He just wanted to be a hero, if he killed those guys in self defense and not for a cause... There is no cause to fight, no chaos, and thats what he wanted. Chaos.
@@yol_n Problem is this was not a batman or joker film. It was a random film that used famous comic book names. To draw in audeinces and throw out polotical propaganda. It may not be leftist propaganda but its the same tactics, Used by shows like Velma. Just becouse its far right does not make these tactics ok. Propaganda is propaganda. You and everyone praising the film ate it up. Yet you same people will scream to the heavens, about how Velma is the worst case of political propaganda in the last 2 years. You would be correct. It is political propaganda. But so is this.
@Jim Goose ah i see now... that actually makes sense. I guess in that sense this movie was catartic for many people who were mistreated by crappy higher figures
The voice crack on when he says "you get what you F'ing deserve!" Full of convection. Acting is top notch and this scene will forever be in my bank of "goosebump moments"
Swapneel Patel while true, tomb doesn't fit the context either Plus if you listen closely to what he says he clearly says "tune" and not "tomb". They sound different when said aloud.
Look at his chin quiver and listen to his breathing, he has this kind of rage where he’s almost trying not to break down, everything done was truly exceptional in this film
His body is shaking and he seems like hes unconscious right after he shot murray. That was a class act...The acting is so out of this world we can see how realistic those acting were
This is just my interpretation. He's not unconscious. He's just sad that he needs to kill people. But he can't express it the way the majority of the population does. That is his sickness. You can say he regrets it but to offset the fear and other effects you feel after a murder he must laugh or he will go insane for real. Joker. the hero we deserve but did not know we needed. Fruck off Batman, this is the dark night.
@@NoneofyourBusiness-hy5ln I watch this scene from time to time and I still get goosebumps. The acting and whole chemistry is on another level. It makes you forget we are watching a movie.
The reality is that Murray was never actually awful, sure he did make fun of Arthur, but that’s what every comedy talk show does, Jimmy Kimmel, SNL, hell I wouldn’t mind if Kimmel made fun of me on TV, Arthur just went through so much that he took it at a psychotic and personal level, Murray was never really aware of Arthur’s uncontrollable laughter, he thought it was just a part of his comedy act, Murray was never actually aware that Arthur was a very mentally troubled person
The detailed analysis people have on the Joker is always entertaining. My interpretation of his character is that he could be anybody; just an average dude that had one bad day. Or in this case, had a life of hardships with no overcoming of obstacles and suddenly became the chaotic person we hate to love.
@@the4given196 Leto's Joker could have been awesome if he actually had screen time lol. You do realize there was actual comics of a Joker version like Leto's right? It wasn't just a random hipster decision by Hollywood.
@@kevinjung4797 Maybe I'm just old, but the Joker has always been a crook/criminal with a flair for theatrics. The Heath Leadger and Joaquin Phoenix characters are very far from the Jack Nicholson Joker that lends itself much more to the comics. Not that they are bad, they are just atypical portrayals.
@@margarethmichelina5146 Yup. He thinks Arthur is just another fool. Most of the people who got mistreated like this never ever rebel. For Murray, it's just another day so he wasn't cautious.
The most inaccurate thing about this movie, as has recently been proven through an extremely heartwarming event, is how few people were celebrating afterwards. The joy is much more universal in real life, and that's wonderful.
I mean, Murray was a jerk that exploited insecure people, but that's the extent of his actions. It makes sense that only very few would celebrate his death unlike a certain someone
I could say the more inaccurate thing is the difference between Joker and the real life shooter.. he shot the CEO in the back and ran away and hid and still failed and got arrested.. at least I would admire the dude if he had stayed and made a speech.. Joker is not a coward
@jonathanchui I doubt the guy they caught is actually him. They just need a fall guy to save face. Why the heck would he be carrying all this evidence on him days later? Also, sticking around to make a speech would be pointless and stupid. That's not cowardice, that's common sense.

When the rich want you caught, you more than likely will get caught.
"I killed those guys because they were awful...you're awful Murray." That should have been his first hint to slowly defuse the situation and get himself out of there.
@@wiseconqueror533 Even so, it’s pretty clear Arthur is *very* unstable and he should leave. Instead he starts trying to argue with the guy who’s happily confessed to killing people
@@beegchung2490 gotta get those tv ratings. Nothing makes you look better in the public eye than looking tough against criminals. especially since you'd have security guards to take the guy away if he started attacking you, which is more publicity as you'd be able to talk about how you got attacked on T.V. his only mistake was having too much confidence in his clearly inept guards. If Author didn't have the gun then this would have gone much differently. IE him getting taken away.
Honestly in real life there’s no way this would have happened. In reality they would have immediately stopped recording the show right after he confessed to murder and called security or something. The fact that Murray and the rest of the show hosts continued to record him after confessing to murder is probably the most unrealistic thing in this movie.
@@redengine6382 well there is a good chance that scene was all just in his head. Considering the ending and all. He isn't a reliable narrator. which makes it all the more entertaining.
This didn’t even feel like a movie. It felt like an actual live event that happened it’s just so lifelike it makes me realize how much work was put into this production.
NGL, that quote resonates with me. This year has shown me how people truly are. And it's frightening. Especially as a guy who always believed in and connected with others.
god i love it. with the rising intensity and volume of the drums, you cant help but feel anxious. you know something bad is coming. then it does, and the drums quieten, but they dont disappear, just echoing. its haunting.
Love the way he laughs after he shoots Murray, it’s the first time Arthur isn’t suffering laughter as an affliction or using it to fit in when he doesn’t understand social cues. Powerful acting.
I love how Murray uses all the tricks in the book to control the narrative. He tells stories, he deflects, he tries to paint the picture he wants but despite every effort, the joker is so spontaneous and crazy that he can't control anything
I don't know to what extent this is true but a couple of months ago a 85 year old photographer fell off in Paris and was hurt so badly that he couldn't get on hos feet. EIGHT HOURS did he spend on the floor and NO ONE helped him. Since it was a cold night, the photographer sadly died.
That's how I'd live. 100% true. Not EVERYONE gets their own kazuma kiryu who comes along, helps you as a kind soul and wishes you well. Some people can just enjoy their pathetic, tacky, perfect little lives! If I was being crushed by life, and abandoned like a homeless bum, even some of my own favorite celebrities and heroes won't always care! They just selfishly move on!
i remember when i watched this film in theatres, so many people gasped at this scene. after the film, an old couple next to me, in absolute fear the entire movie, discussed to each other how this movie will “justify mental health” and “cause the mentally ill to riot”. bless their hearts

I just noticed that after he shot Murray, his laugh is different from all the other laughs earlier in the film. The laugh at the end was authentic, meaning he’s finally himself and not a facade.
Yeah good one mate
Do yall know any other words besideds "genuinely"?
I bet all he had to do is think about his brother river and the tears would come out like nothing, but other than that hes a very gifted actor!
Omg that is so sad I love him 😔
