The Shadow 2 compact might just be my first CZ. Handled one while I was there in Wichita and it felt incredible

Idk what it is about this gun, but ever since seeing it released I’ve been obsessed. Went and got hands on one yesterday, (big mistake lol), and now own it. In-hand feel and trigger are SO nice, excited to get a few hundred rounds through it soon.

I am in that camp of competing with a Shadow 2 and would love to have one like the compact to carry. I’ve got a perfectly fine P-01 to carry, so I’ll wait out the big rush and get an S2 compact when things have quieted down a bit. Thank you for this report. Great Video, and appreciate the coverage, there hasn’t been many videos on this pistol. I was incredibly impressed with this pistol, and thought it shot extremely well, the trigger is far superior to the stock P-01. Shoot, it was better than my cajunized P-01 Omega. I was able to hit that dueling tree at TriggerCon range day, and the fiber optic sight made it easier to hit with more pinpoint accuracy.

I want to thank you for once again producing honest interesting content. As an early owner of the S2C (in fact one dressed up by CZ Custom and an owner of 7 other CZs I’d full agree that this gun is even better than what I’d hoped for and i had very high expectations. I’d even go so far as to say that the weight and smaller footprint make it a real candidate for a replacement for my S2 in Carry Optics. As for carrying it, the major downside is that you run the risk of losing it should you ever have to use it and that would be an absolute shame.
while what you say is true the loss of that gun beats the loss of my daughters life.

I just bought one the other day. Got it for the suggested price at a chain sporting goods store. Bought it online or I never would have gotten one by now. Haven't shot it yet, but I love the fact that it naturally seems to point much like a 1911 does. I'm not a big guy so it won't hide easy on me in the summertime, that's why it will be a winter time carry gun for me. The weight and balance seems really good for me.

I agree cuz I just got the Shadow 2 Compact and my other CZ is a P-01...
I don't care what it was designed for, carry, competition, or whatever.
The Shadow 2 compact is simply one of the best, most fun to shoot pistols out there.
Mine is fantastic and overall a better choice than even the DWX compact, IMO, when though the DWX sells for hundreds more.

I love mine. I’m 5ft 9in 165 lbs. carry appendix carry year round ,put a extended safety on it, carried and shot guns for 55 yrs carried one as a cop for 35 years
I’m sure it’s a great gun (my shadow 2 never disappointed), but I’d much rather they update the p07 and p09 with optics for a cz carry gun. The lack of a firing pin block also gives me some pause. Either way, as a guy whose go to carry gun is a p229, I’m glad to see more DA/SA hammer carry guns coming to market.
Yup. I do not understand the purpose of shadow 2 compact. It's not drop safe so it's not carry safe. It makes no sense to use for comps over full size shadow. And why not steel frame? Big pass for me
The half cock in the comp is almost flush. Extremely secure. As a 1911 guy though i appendix fully cocked n locked without a care 🤷🏻♂️
You have no carry worries as long as you don’t monkey with an extended FP or reduced strength FP spring.
Almost 6 months later... This thing is still sold out everywhere.
I picked up the shadow 2 compact only because I gifted my po1 to my future son-in-law. I am surprised just how tight the slide to frame fit is. There isn't any wiggle noise. My only real complaint is that the mag release button is very sharp, and when shooting left-handed, it does cut into my hand some. While the grips are attractive, I may look for some palm swell Lokgrips for this. They will probably be in the aluminum style (to keep the look). All-in-all, I think CZ has another winner here, although I had to adjust the rear sight some due to it shot low right out of the box. I know this wasn't me because it shot the same regardless of which hand I shot with.
Got mine from PSA last weekend for $1299! I walked in, saw it in the case, and immediately pulled out my ccw ready to purchase
for that price it's great
Just got mine out shooting today. Very very nice gun. Never had the full size. But it getting close to ds 1911 territory on how well it just runs.
Was waiting to get your perspective on this pistol. Looking forward to a comparison between this pistol and the Dan Wesson DWX Compact. While your at it, you might as well throw in the Staccato and Bul Armory carry pistols to see which one is the best High Priced carry pistol
I was atba Tier II irons only IDPA match a few weeks ago. One guy had this gun. He was 1st or 2nd overall and got bumped to CCP Master. It's definitely a fast gun.
it's an awesome gun for CCP - that's immediately where my mind went.

@billosby9997 Compact Carry Pistol. Basically, it's Glock 19 sized striker fired or DA/SA stock iron sighted pistols. There are a handful of minor cosmetic things you can do to them but really nothing that effects function. Single action only is a different division.

Eight more days till I can pick mine up. Already have my Holosun 507 Comp and Legacy firearms holster. And yes, I was gouged.
Love Mine! I shot it one trip without optic and one with. Honestly, I like it better without and as a carry I only carry Irons Sights anyhow. Fantastic Weapon! I do enjoy my Beretta 92X Performance more but just barely. But it isn't a compact which speaks volumes for the CZ.
I’m trying to decide between the LTTPX4 compact and the CZ shadow 2. In your opinion, what’s the better pistol and what gun is faster?
With no firing pin block, I don't think I would use this in my EDC rotation.
Many retailers have been heavily discounting the PCD, P-01 and P-10C.
CZ is going to introduce some new EDC product soon, I will wait to see whatever that is.

I wouldn't operate this gun as an SAO gun - I'd let it be double action.
Its interesting, but its behind the steel frame canik, and the oracle 2311... so probably a way in the distance.
How is it different from the Shadowline compact you made a video on like 5 or 6 years ago? Is this just a rebrand? Curious on your thoughts since you have them both or have shot them both. I haven’t either, but I love the ergonomics on a full-size Shadow 2 with the palmswell Lok grips 👍🏻😎👍🏻
The grip texture has changed and slide machining is different plus optics cut?
I get there is going to be a performance gap without a bunch of LTT parts, but I’m curious about a size and weight comparison between this and a beretta 92 compact.
I got a deal on a full sized Shadow 2 OR this spring and fell in love with it. It’s taking every fiber of my being not go out and drop another $1200+ on this thing 😥

My issue is the decocking not being there, and being forced to do it by hand is crazy to me.
put your thumb between the slide and the hammer, pull the trigger and release it and slowly remove your thumb - absolutely foolproof.

That still takes some skill and I've practiced manual decocking before with a CZ 75-BD, slipped sometimes and the hammer struck the firing pin.
Thankfully I had the gun unloaded as I was practicing, I will always use the decocker or manual safety. Not worth bothering to do it manually.
Pinch the hammer with your thumb and index finger. Pull the trigger and let it down slowly while pointed in a safe direction. Preferably outside pointed down at a dirt/grass surface if your new to this.
I'm not sure about the compact but the regular Shadow 2 come with a manual safety and also a decocker. You install whichever one you prefer.
Thanks for the video; very excited for the comparison with the DWX Compact and your opinion on which one dominates! I'm all in on CZ with the shadow 2 backed up by a P-01 as a CCW option; hoping the CZ S2 Compact wins out, but fully expect your experience and expertise on the single action double stack 1911 platform will push you toward the DWX. Was the P-01 even in the same league as the S2 Compact or does it get boat raced by this new offering?
Question on another topic; you say you prefer a polymer grip on something like a Staccato XC. Do you feel the aluminum grip is unnecessary weight, or is the recoil impulse just a little sharper than your preference? Would you prefer a polymer grip on something like the DS9?
Extra 4 ounces won't make any difference if you got a good belt
I had CZ 97B recently sold because license of .45 cancelled in KPK Pakistan. Nice reliable guns but super heavy.
Whats everyone's (or anyone's) opinion on weather to get Shadow 2 Compact or Cajunize my p01? This is for CC purposes.
This will be perfect for my wife the P10F grip is to aggressive for her. She likes the grip of the Shadow 2 it’s just too heavy. I love my Shadow 2 I got the OR version just in case I want to add a red dot later on. We can use the P10F OR as our home defense gun loaded with hollow points and the Shadow 2s as range guns.
David - is the ergo setup on the Shadow 2 C more compatible for someone with small hands? I've only been able to hold the 75 base compact, and I'm barely able to reach the mag release and not at all the slide release. I've researched some mod options but maybe the 2C is a better choice? Thanks! We enjoy your content, and husband has ordered me the lovely Whataburger hat you've been sporting lately.

Did 'they' say anything about the myopic feature set exclusions for the DWX Compact? Easy to see who wears the pants over there as DWX got slighted from launch w/out optic or rail.. on a compact EDC gun that starts at just under $2k. WTH who's getting fired or a bonus for making that decision?
Could you do a video on getting into USPSA limited optics division and what guns would work for that division and how to sign up and do matches?

I have a stock p01. I can’t imagine a gun that shoots better for a combat pistol.

hah nope. at the range we had 20 yard steel that was shot to hell and back.
@@TheHumbleMarksman better yet. i've found with my G21 and my sp01 that i shoot more accurately at 100 yards than 25, from the bench of course.
What does half cocked do ? Does it make it safe for carry or would you still have to rack it to shoot?
it would be a DA first shot with a touch more slack - but the hammer doesn't rest on the firing pin so if the gun is dropped the hammer won't impart any force onto the firing pin.

Anyone who walks around with a hammer in full cock mode, whether or not the safety is on or off, is asking for trouble. The half cocked mode carry is just fine, whether your gun is DA/SA or just a SA. Having to use your thumb to fully cock the hammer prior to a 1st shot, in a situation, is part of the safety of SA firearm imo.
Found mine at a much lower price. It costs no more than others that you have to modify to suit your tastes. It’s quality right from the box. Not buy this and then buy that to make it right. It already is EDC ready. I know if I miss it’s me not the gun.
I'm looking at the Shadow 2 Compact or a Platypus for first pricey gun purchase. Curious how these both compare for concealed carry and overall quality and performance.

the CZ Shadow 2 probably shoots a bit nicer based on the ergos of the frame. The trigger is nicer on the platypus. The platypus isn't as wide and will fit into a Beltline better.

Manually decocking when you’re pointed at the berm at a USPSA match is one thing but I don’t know how I feel about manually decocking a carry gun that I’d probably be putting on in my bedroom. I’d probably just run this cocked and locked and use it like a single action that just happens to have double strike capability
just use the thumb block method to drop to half cock - it's very safe and easy to do.

for CCP - yes. I'd rather a full size gun for CO.
In conclusion, considering features/ advantages / X Factor , which would you buy as your first Shadow 2, 4.89” Barrel OR 19rd, or the New Shadow 2 Compact?

Do you guys really think a 5" pistol helps in competition? I can see how it would help if you're shooting irons but in the era of red dots what is the real benefit? Yes, the velocity is better but does that really make a difference in competitions where most targets are very close?
I've never shot a pistol match, I plan on starting but haven't yet. I'm curious what you guys think about this subject because to me it seems like a 5" pistol doesn't offer a tangible benefit in the era of red dots. That said, I'm gonna shoot my first match with a Canik Rival and that's a 5" gun so yeah, is what it is I suppose.
A full size grip and a 40 ounce gun is more stable than a shorter grip that is less stable.
I want to ❤ this video … Seemed to lack BDE ;-). My question from competition standpoint in IDPA only. Have to pick between two SP01 (milled for optic) or S2 Compact in Carry Optics? Concealed Carry seems easier decision new S2 compact preferred option.

I’m in the same boat. I have small hands so I don’t need a full sized grip and I find the shadow 2 to be two heavy to be comfortable on transitions and draws. I currently have a shadow 1 that I am thinking to send out to get milled for optics , or just getting the shadow 2 compact. I’m leading towards getting the compact because then I could carry it sometimes but I don’t want to be at a disadvantage with the aluminum frame if there is a any downside there.

Just got my Shadow II Compact for less than $1200.
I rent it at the club. malfunction every 10-15 rounds. Extremely disapointed. I trust the p10C and p10F. But the shadow 2 compact was unreliable, sadly I won't buy it. Best feeling was the TS2. Waoo.

I want this so bad but is this even realistic for everyday carry? The lack of FPB is a little concerning too, would it even be dropsafe? I’m not a big person I’m afraid I’m going to be disappointed that I end up with just a slightly worse competition gun that is unwieldy and slightly unsafe.
1911s have been carried for over 100 years without a fpb. You're probably the type that's too scared to carry one in the chamber

Congrats on being the only influencer I’ve seen that even mentioned this doesn’t come with a firing pin block hahahaha. Is carrying it half cock really safe? I haven’t owned a CZ before and the Shadow2 compact peaked my interest….
So if you were to drop it - the force of the drop wouldn’t make it to the firing pin because the hammer is in the half cock notch. All the way down - that means that the ground can push the pin forward - which isn’t an issue unmodified but if you have an extended firing pin like most people who do a trigger job - then there is an issue

I really think a hammer carry gun needs a decocker. Dropping the hammer on your thumb w a live round in the chamber is far from ideal.

Don't carry at half cock. Its not intended for that. If dropped on the hammer the notch may shear off and the gun may fire. Hammer fully down is perfectly safe if dropped on the hammer unless you install an extended firing pin. Please inform yourself how an inertia firing pin works ...or trust Jeff Cooper on condition 2.
Put yourself in my shoes knowing a range officer has died from a dropped CZ with hammer down. Now go on the Facebook groups and realize most CZ guys use extended pins. I would rather the gun break and potentially not go off

You remove the grips for a good reason, cause they look good but ain't that grippy.
Still losing the rear sight mounting a rds is meh.
Maybe it's just me but why not have a type of safety that works with the manual safety so it has the maximum safety if it's on, but the best trigger when off?
What is missing here is information on the trigger compared to a S2, not to a p01.

I see a lot of comments here and elsewhere about no decocker. Have you never used a revolver or 1911? Point an unloaded gun in a safe direction and practice lowering to the safety notch a few times. You'll have an epiphany, "Hey, no problem, what's the big deal?"
Revolvers have a long and kinda heavy double action and dont need to be decocked with a round in the chamber.
1911s have manual and grip safety and don't need to be decocked.
This is a da/sa gun with no firing pin block, no decocker, flush and unusable manual safeties. I think "carry" is just a marketing thing, it sells better than "hey we made a gun for IDPA"
I dont really understand the point unless you find the shadow 2 overly heavy when competing and just want a lighter and (opinion) better balance. Given alternatives on the market i dont consider this an ideal carry option, nor would any shadow… or you really just love CZs and want an excuse to buy another and carry it… for some odd reason. Wouldnt mind getting my hands on a compact, fully cajunized, slide milled, optic and competing with it just to see how it feels for a lighter weight (perhaps faster draw?) rig. Essentially - gimmicky
I think it's CZs for the CZ boys.
No decocker, no firing pin block, not drop safe, and have to remove the rear iron sight to mount an optic. That certainly checks all the boxes for a carry gun.

My favorite gun right now - apart from 2011 style pistols - is the PX4 Storm Compact from Langdon Tactical. That gun is magic.
