I had hoped for it to be a smaller step up from a DT, but once I had taken in the following I guess I understand it better. So simply put, the SL2 is a hybrid between An SO10 (£96k) and a DT (£10k). Its closest relative is the SL3 at £21,350. The fact it’s less than the sl3 is surprising to me, I definitely appreciate the increased machine time and technology over the engraving of the SL3. The gun has a production limit of 150 a year maximum as well, which obviously affects the economics somewhat.
@@tgsoutdoors thanks fornthe reply. I'd personally have liked it more mass production with a dt style price tag, like a better, upmarket cynergy i guess. Ah well
I don’t think it is over priced, they will sell the 150 per year with ease. Sl3 for game sl2 for clays. At this price point buyers the cost isn’t a concern to buyers. They probably spend 10k-30k on shooting per year anyway
Every time a company re-invents jug chokes, I laugh a little harder. The concept of tight-to-open-to-tight bores + choking has been around since the 1870s and it comes around as the 'state of the art' and disappears again and again through history. The original jug chokes, then overbored barrels (which allowed gases to escape around the wad, creating the same slow-down a jug choke creates before being constricted), Cutts compensators, Tula chokes, Brain chokes, now Beretta doing it again (and with a 'normal' 12 gauge .724 bore diameter to boot). With all the simulations we have today, we forget that those before us could reach the same conclusions through trial and error. Many found 'better results through XYZ' and implemented them. Then, in our modern hubris, we throw it all away because "they didn't have the advanced technology we have," only to re-converge on the same results. What is old is new again, and with a much higher price tag to reinvent what we've known to work well for centuries.
The evidence that we are not the most technically advanced society is in plain sight in many countries across the world. Much of the evidence has been crudely altered but is there for those who have the eyes to see.
finally a gun that takes the detachable trigger from the DT series, the slim profile of the 694 and puts them together with many other improvements.. My son shoots a DT and I prefer the 694. both great guns. This SL2 looks amazing!, gonna go sell a kidney now to order me one!!!
Great video. My son, Austin (you've met a couple of times in San Antonio), sells these for Cole Fine Guns & Gunsmithing and said that the market reception is very good.
Thanks for another cool and informative video Johnny! All the good/great gunmakers steal like an artist and have for a very long time. This is meant as a compliment by the way. In watching your video on the SL2 I see elements from several places. Boss inspired action with a nod to Perazzi. Rizzini and other Italian bottom of the mono block chamber end where it has the square shoulders to lock into the action as an additional reinforcement to bolster the already excellent Beretta recoil shoulders. The bore work that can point to the work and innovation of several barrel smiths and companies through the decades. We really do live in a golden age of firearms.
Reminds me of a Benelli 828 Sport tbh looks similar a nice case full of bits, matt black metal work, long pointed forend and endless weight/ stock configurations.
Well, they're both contemporary looking guns but, other than that, they're nothing alike. The 828U is a piece of junk. This is an amazing gun - I've shot the SL2 - and it's a dream.
Wow, I have never been a Beretta fan and have been shooting a K80 for the last 10 years. I can Honestly say "I love this Gun", I haven't tried one yet but I am going to as soon as I can. Great Review Thx.
With no doubt another Beretta success. Not been biased, I LOVE Berettas guns in general, but with an exception for clay targets guns which they have a criterial that other brands have ever bitten. Not only they seat comfortably, but most important the slim line that helps reducing recoil drastically no matter the weight of the gun, by still preserving a terrific safe and strong closing mechanism where it doesn't need to be the size of a tank, like some other brands, to which I don't need to mention!! Bigger it doesn't mean better!! I know by facts that some old traditional shotguns metals that some well-known brand used to Royal in the past, they still reproduce the same designee and metallurgy as 60 years ago!! Say no more. I also like the way you represent and promote the Beretta in general, with hard to hide your passion for distinction from any other brands, including other Italian brands.!
Beautiful gun . Being a Beretta man myself ( 680 S , 682 Gold E and 692 X Trap ) It's what you would expect from Beretta . I'm in the market for a DT11 and can only dream of a SL2
I think it’s truly stunning my in every way. I’m very much a modern design. The traditional patters and game scenes do nothing for me so I like the clean lines of this, like the 694 etc. really loving these modern designs 🙌🏻
I shoot the new Beretta A 400 Multi Target and enjoy the tool working to increase my scores. Which has happened and I am very pleased with an outstanding firearm.
@tgsoutdoors great review. Since part of the video was at Beretta I was hoping to see the slow motion pellet pattern comparison between the Steelium pro barrels vs the pro x. Hopefully you’ll be able to showcase that in a future video.
@@AlsAllAussieAdventures look who’s using the k80. Look who’s won world titles with them. Yes the SL2 looks great and probably shoots great but saying nothing compares is a bit far. Krieghoff, Perrazi, invictus range, xs pro all great guns and it’s a matter of personal preference.
The K80 is far superior to any other over/under made today. Your kidding yourself if you don’t know this. The DT-10 and DT-11 still have trigger problems. Several shooting buddies have had their DT’s sent back to Beretta more than once.
Have you ever tried a pair of Maui Jim sunglasses for shooting? You owe it to yourself to try them out - so many different styles, shapes and lens to suit your preferences. I've used Maui's for years and my eyes thank me for it, day in n' out!
I’m interested just for that forearm like you pointed out. I tend to burn my fingers on my Browning , having that little bitty extension of wood seems real nice

Just out of curiosity I’ve seen another video of yours wheee you try the SO5, SO6 and SO9 and you were explaining how smooth, buttery and natural the SO5 is and if I recollect correctly you preferred the SO5 over the SO6 for your style of shooting Having tried both the SL2 and SO5, given the wonderful opportunity of acquiring one what would you pick and why ?
Great video, as usual, Jonny! Good thing the SL2 it's not found anywhere (not only to buy but at least to look at it), because I have a feeling that the price is "stellar"...oh... wait... was that "astronomic" rather?!
Love it, maybe a replacement for my fantastic Benelli 828 U Sport, I love the lines of modern shotguns, certainly if form and function compliment each other.
I know nothing about guns, but watched this with interest. It seems vey similar to road cycling for men. Over the years manufacturers have come up with so many variations and micro improvements which, quite frankly, make absolutely no difference to the performance of your average participant. Men have a weak spot for these intricacies which is fully exploited by the manufacturers encouraging the nerd within and charging as much as they possibly can. UA-cam videos like this support, facilitate and advertise the manufacturer’s propaganda and satiate the nerd’s interest and belief that any of it will make them hit more targets or ride any faster or do whatever the sport typically requires.
Very cool. I have a 682 gold e for trap, and love it. One day when I step up. I would love either a DT 11 or an SL2. Although offering tru oil finish… I guess it gives options, but how can you go past a natural oil finish? Beautiful
Yeah that thing is seriously cool. Right up my street. I’m fairly new to the sport so haven’t grown up with the overly engraved thing, so that is perfect. One question though - what happened to the Longthorne?
Interestingly the design, particularly the forend, reminds me a bit of the Fabarm Axis from about ten years ago. Nobody (but me) seemed to like the Axis back then... Maybe it's a shape whose time has come?
Starting price is in the $25,000-30,000 neighborhood depending on how the shop optioned the gun for their inventory (assuming you don't custom order, in which case ~$25k is the floor)
What a brilliant gun that looks great review and something that would be on the first to buy list when the numbers drop on the lottery😂. How does it measure up against other high end guns you’ve used?

It certainly is a sleek looking bit of kit, with that new foreend the whole thing just looks fast.
It’s a lot of money but then again so are Krieghoff and Perazz. It looks amazing to my eyes, lovely.
I was lucky enough to buy the launch edition bloody love it even better than my dt11 eel carbon

Will shoot very different to the K80, does look cool, but my K80 ain’t going anywhere, main reason is Alan Rhone vs GMK UK. End of story…
Beautiful shotgun very modern looking but not overly done. Would love to see one in person
That is a shotgun that has a level of craftsmanship that goes beyond anything I have ever seen outside of the Rolls Royce Factory.
This is very much a gun built for the American market.
