  • This is not a short video...and although the decision was not a hard one, it was a very personal one. For that reason, it was important for the Doctor to spend time explaining what went into making his decision, as others, with other needs, may find themselves realizing that they may be better off going in the opposite direction. As always, your thoughts and comments are welcome in the comment section.

    I have to say the CS does appear to shoot flatter . The CZ seemed way more flippy . As for that morning shakes . I had that same thing 7 years ago. Turned out I needed major bypass . I was told I was very lucky I didn't have a heart attack . I'd at least get checked . Not trying to be a know it all . But your shaking reminded me of what I experienced and thought it was from Coffee . Just as suggestion . At least a stress test : Thanks for video

      Thank you for watching this very glitchy video. Unfortunately, I can’t blame the glitchyness for my shaking. On a serious note, if given the choice irrespective of cost I believe I would pick the Shadow 2 Compact over the Staccato. Very tough choice but the rolling break trigger maybe is the tiebreaker. I’m lusting after the compact CZ because of my experience with the Shadow 2, I have shot Staccatos and have a STI Trojan that I love and have the highest regard for the STI/Staccato brand but I have never shot anything that works as well for me as the CZ. @DrTac I'm debating between both of these at the moment. Unfortunately I've only been able to hold the CS Though. Do they feel the same in hand at Backstrap area? When gripping the CS its backstrap ended right in the middle of Palm Area below thumb for me, and that makes it feel awkwardly small, like I'm not getting a full purchase.
    Does the S2C terminate at the same area of Palm when you're gripping as the CS?

    • @DrTac
      @DrTac  3 місяці тому +1

      The grips are totally different on these two guns. While I love my CS, the grip on the S2C is considerably more ergonomic for my medium sized hands. This is primarily due to the fact that there is no grip safety on the S2C and the grip constricts at the top portion which not only feels great, but allows for more control. In addition, even though their grips are pretty similar in length, the angulation of the bottom of the back strap presents in such a way that it actually terminates lower in my palm, allowing for even more control. All this said...so far, from a concealment standpoint, the grip on the CS allows for less printing. I hope this is helpful for you. Let me know what you decide...you can't go wrong😎

    I have a canjunized shadow 2 and it's an amazing shooter. A friend of mine has both the shadow 2 and the shadow 2 compact. Both were purchased from canjun gunworks. The cajunized updates to these shadow pistols are amazing and should be mandatory. Canjun gunworks sets the trigger position further back, creating a larger area for your finger while creating better ergonomics. The canjun trigger is much lighter also. Check out the other upgrades included in their package. I would suggest sending your shadows to cajun for these upgrades. I also suggest a set of lok grips. I am not affiliated with either company, but can recommend both. Thanks for the informative video between these highend handguns

    @rickh9306 5 місяців тому +2

    Ok, first off forget the rapid fire stuff at the end of the range session. That’s not a machine pistol and was never meant to be. It’s just a bunch of ammo being burned off with little to no weapon control. The rest of the video wasn’t bad, just wordy. Some of the shaking I think was related to shooting an unfamiliar firearm. Shoot it first for a while and then do the video. This also helps dump the caffeine jitters. Lastly, measure the trigger pull of the CZ from hammer completely down and then measure from the half cock position. I think you will be surprised at the difference.
    The Shadow 2 OR or Compact is a great pistol especially for the price. Buying a Staccato for myself would be a complete waste of money. My two favorites are the full size Shadow and the Compact. You can’t go wrong with either or both.

    • @DrTac
      @DrTac  5 місяців тому +1

      Sorry, the rapid shooting was for me; the guns actually made me do it. Both of their triggers kept asking for more. But seriously, your point about hammer position is well taken. I chose the partially cocked position because that is the position that 99% of the carrying population will carry the Shadw 2 OR Compact concealed in, so that will be the poundage of their first shot. I appreciate you taking the time to comment.

    • @rickh9306
      @rickh9306 5 місяців тому +2

      I guess I should have further explained my “hammer” comment instead of just leaving it kind of hanging. You can quite safely put a fully cocked hammer on the CZ Shadow into the half cock notch by putting your off hand thumb between the hammer face and slide before you pull the trigger. If by chance you lose control of the hammer it will simply fall on your thumb. You can at that regain control of the hammer and finish what you started. If you carry the Shadow in the half cock position you will discover much less force is needed to fire the pistol in double action mode. I was quite surprised by this as double action pull weight was almost 2 pounds less on both of my Shadows.

  • @ethanmccracken6489
    @ethanmccracken6489 5 місяців тому +6

    I’ve shot both and the Shadow 2 compact is better in every way. It’s cheaper, it’s thinner, it’s not much heavier, it has less felt recoil and less muzzle flip, the grip is shorter which makes it easier to conceal, the checkering is more aggressive so you have more grip. And you have the added feature of DA/SA instead of just SA. I carry a double stack 1911 all the time and even I like the shadow 2 better than the CS which is pretty similar to my gun.

    I have the same issue with the safety disengaging on my C2 so I didn't feel comfortable carry it with a round in the chamber, but you carry yours hammer down? Aren't you afraid if you drop it while unholstering? Anyhow, I'm wondering if I install a stronger indent spring maybe the safety won't be so easy to disengage. On the other hand, my daily carry is my Shadow 2 compact. It's the only gun I carry appendix, everything else is at 4 o'clock. Still love my Staccato.

    • @DrTac
      @DrTac  3 місяці тому

      Hammer down doesn't always mean hammer down; technically you have hammer decocked and hammer fully down...these are not the same thing. In the decocked position, the hammer is not abutting up against the firing pin and should therefore be "drop safe." The easiest and safest (although still not totally safe) way to do this is to hold the hammer firmly, pull the trigger (while depressing the grip safety), gently start to lower the hammer, while immediately taking your finger off the trigger, then gently ride the hammer the rest of the way forward, which should be considerably short of the firing pin...actually the exact same way you decock your CZ, only with the addition of a grip safety.

    •  3 місяці тому +1

      Yeah, when you said "hammer down" I thought you meant hammer down. Until I can rectify that issue with my safety, I think I'll start carying it with the hammer down as you do. Pulling the trigger back is probably faster still than racking the slide. There is a distinguishable click when I engage the safety but disengaging it hardly any resistance at all. Your thoughts on that? @@DrTac

    • @DrTac
      @DrTac  3 місяці тому +1

      I find the operation of drawing and cocking the hammer in one stroke to be just as intuitive as drawing and defeating the safety in one stroke, it’s just how you train. Cocking the hammer is a perfectly safe movement as long as your finger remains off the trigger. As for the less audible motion of turning off the safety, that doesn’t concern me because my strong hand thumb rides the safety on the CS so I have pretty good tactical sensation on its status.

    Can someone tell me why i hear so much crap about striker fired gun triggers that are primarily used for self defense then hear that a 8 plus pound long pull trigger is great in a self defense gun? I'm not trying to be sarcastic i truly want to know. From my perspective we are placing too much emphasis on slight variations of triggers that won't stop anyone from pulling the trigger or affect accuracy in a self defense situation where the target is less than 10 yards away.

    • @DrTac
      @DrTac  5 місяців тому

      Great question. The truth of the matter is that pretty much any gun can get the job done in a self defense situation…but that doesn’t mean that some aren’t better than others. When you go to the range and shoot paper and steel targets, you can get very proficient, but when you enter the competitive world of shooting, you really start to get an idea of how seconds matter, and that is where the different types of triggers come into play. I have several striker fired guns that I love, especially my Walther Q4 SF. One big advantage to striker fired guns for conceal carry is that most of them do not have a long, sharp beaver tail sticking out to dig into your body. However, while companies like Walther and Canik have put forward some really nice triggers, most will still say they’re nice triggers ‘for a striker fired gun,’ meaning that, simply due to their mechanics, they have an uphill battle to compete with a hammer fired gun. When you are dealing with a hammer, fired, semi automatic pistol, there are basically three types of triggers, DA/SA, SAO, and some DAO (like HK’s LEM trigger). The lighter the trigger pull, The faster you can get off a shot, the faster you can get back on target, and the more accurate your shot will be, as your finger has less fighting involved with the trigger. in a competitive situation, single action is going to give you the best results, but in a self-defense situation, a very light trigger could result in a catastrophic situation with an unintended discharge. That is the advantage to having a heavier double action pull on your first shot, while you are drawing from the holster and trying to get on target. I could go on and on about the pros and cons each type of trigger brings with it, but as I am writing this, I’m realizing it’s turning into a book. The only other advantage to hammer fired pistols that I want to mention is that the hammer can add to the safety of a gun when it comes to reholstering. Simply by placing your thumb on the hammer while reholstering your firearm you get tactile feedback that can verify that your trigger is or isn’t engaging on something it shouldn’t be.
      There really is a ton of information out there on this topic and your question is a great one. In fact, you’ve inspired me. I think I will do a video on this topic. Thank you for your question.

    • @MisterLou762
      @MisterLou762 4 місяці тому +1

      I recently had a similar thought and decided to try an experiment at the range with a CZ Shadow 2, Staccato C2, and Glock 45 (9mm).
      I shot 5x controlled pairs with each at 10 yards from the draw, followed by slow fire at 25 yards.
      At 10 yards, there was no major difference in speed or accuracy for me - the holster was more of a factor than the gun. You have to look at your whole carry setup as a system; optimizing one variable may compromise another. The level 3 Safariland holster for my G45 takes the most time to free the weapon, but once out of the holster it’s faster on target because I train with it the most.
      Slow fire at 25 yards is a different story. Shadow 2 wins hands down here due to the longer barrel and heavier weight, followed closely by the staccato.
      Trigger weight should always be taken into account with weapon weight. A 4 lb striker fired trigger on an 18oz P365 will be harder to hold steady than a very similar 4lb trigger on a 30+oz P320 with lights, lasers, optics, etc. think physics/inertia/momentum. Heavier pistol is more resistant to movement.
      What’s your intended purpose? What’s your entire carry system going to be? Do you want big/small brothers? I try to think that way more than the marketing hype of this gun vs that gun, although I love a good comparison video.

    • @MisterLou762
      @MisterLou762 4 місяці тому +1

      @@DrTac yes all three had optics on them. One thing to note at 25 yards, the C2 produced a circular group and the Shadow 2 was more vertically oval; maybe the weight or longer slide plus hinged trigger vs the straight back design on a 2011. I plan on running that drill a few more times to add more data to look at.

    • @DrTac
      @DrTac  4 місяці тому

      @@MisterLou762 That is interesting. I'll take the vertical oval all day over the the circle. The windage is more critical than the elevation. Since you are using optics, the longer sight radius on the Shadow 2's longer slide should be a non-issue and, while the longer barrel will increase velocity, it shouldn't play a role in accuracy (especially at distances less than 50 yards). Were you shooting DA and SA with the Shadow 2, or just SA to maintain an apples-to-apples comparison?

The CZ Shadow 2 Compact is a perfectly safe gun to carry. The concerns that have been expressed pertain to whether or not the gun is drop safe (which has nothing to do with carrying it in your pants) and those concerns have been pretty much dispelled except in cases where the gun has been modified with an extended firing pin.
      The truth is, I was concerned as well about the Shadow 2 Compact's safety, until I did further research and understood the facts. This video really does a nice job spelling out what is fact and what is fiction: ua-cam.com/video/7V71-HetWLs/v-deo.htmlsi=imx0g7jjiRw5m1BG

As such, I have spent a lot of time and effort studying firearms and all things related to firearms. As someone who loves guns, I just really enjoy sharing the information that I have accumulated, as well as learning from others who know more than I. In addition, I am a competition shooter...not a good one...and now days not a very frequent one...but more importantly, being a competition shooter allows me to rub elbows with some very knowledgeable and talented shooters and I've learned a tremendous amount from them. Finally, most professional coaches were not particularly great players, just excellent students of the game with good communication skills. All that said, it all comes down to this one little saying, "Those that can do and those that can't teach." Thank you for your question.
