HR is not a Police Department. They are not there to play judge and jury. They are just workers like everybody else. If there is a conflict between two workers, HR is going to do what's right for the company, not the victim. They will usually get rid of the victim, especially if he/she is on the lower hierarchy of the corporate structure. I have heard and read stories about people who complained to HR about harassment. The end result was the victim ended up resigning and in other cases, HR did nothing about it. The only reason I went to HR is that my lawyer said, "You should let HR know because I can tell you right now that the law is not going to help you." If you are being harassed at work, you have to stay there until you find suitable employment. That's what the Unemployment Commission told me.
Basically as an employee you either put up and shut up. You are at the mercy of coworkers and management who can run you out as long as they don't target you for 'protected' reasons.
They are looking for monetary damage and retaliation = wrongful termination. If you filed the "written" complaint to HR/Management and they fire you, that's retaliation $$$.
I literally filed a retaliation complaint with HR , they started an “investigation” and a week in to the “investigation” , I get fired for “performance issues” . When i tell you I never went so quick to the EEOC.

I agree with this 100%. As someone who has worked in Human Resources (HR) for a time, I can tell you that HR is there to strictly benefit the company or business, not the people who work there. HR’s sole purpose and reason for existing, is to manage humans, whom a company or business views as simple tools, a resource, to achieve an end goal. HR then attempts to protect the company’s or business’s investments and assets by trying to ensure those tools act and behave in the exact and proper way that they were hired (bought) for, that those tools are following all the proper designated processes and procedures (to avoid legal issues), and ultimately that those tools don’t end up dulling or breaking all together (burn out and/or performance issues). Otherwise, those dull or broken tools will be quickly and easily thrown away and a new tool will be acquired as swiftly as possible as a replacement. EVERYTHING an HR department does, is ultimately from this lense. If it ever seems like your HR department “cares” about you or is doing something nice for you, know that the ulterior motive behind it stems from the singular purpose and goal I mentioned above. It’s basic manipulation tactics via Psychology.
*The biggest revelation I learned from HR is that being "Unethical" is not illegal. HR and Management can be as unethical as they want, and there is nothing you can do.*
This is all VERY true. I had an issue with my employer, a Fortune 100 company. I lawyered up early and started collecting information, emails etc. I had months of emails that I turned over. The company did pay me a settlement.
I studied HR. During my studies I was told HR is supposed to put the right man/woman at the right place and you have to caress your workers for the capital that they are. Then I worked in HR and soon found out HR is nothing but a buffer between higher management and the workers, tasked with implementing impopular policies to maximize profit or settling personal grudges any manager may have. Workers are only prescious capital when they add value to the stocks of the company, nothing more. Obviously I quit, because I couldn't morally reconcile my conscience to what I was supposed to do to get payed... and I detest anyone working in HR to this day.
@@BlueDude-cf9mk No it’s not my case because She was fired and it was discovered under our new Sr Manager she was falsified internal documents. So know your facts before making statements. Thanks
Everywhere I've worked, HR were ALWAYS very snobby, arrogant and loved to intimidate employees, acting like you should be terrified of them. You are ALWAYS guilty until proven innocent.
So basically work is just a terrible place to be. You spend years of your life wrenching yourself out of bed at an ungodly hour every morning, drive to an unsafe place that’s uncomfortable and a giant pain in the ass, you’re surrounded by two faced snakes in the grass, your bosses don’t give a single F about you and will screw you hard at your most vulnerable moment. Thank goodness I retired 4 months ago and never have to deal with any of the BS again.
@@Adoniss99 I was a science teacher and department chair so I wouldn’t consider it really a low end position. 23 years of teaching forensic science and astronomy was definitely not assembly line work.
Start your own company. What do you think working for others is really all about? It's about the boss getting rich. That's ALL it's ever about. If I had a company, I'd use you for my cash flow, too.
The thing about HR reducing legal liability by getting rid of the complaint boggles my mind is that it doesn't fix the problem in the most efficient way possible. Maybe they should reduce legal liability by fixing the cause and the employee who complains is almost never the cause. If you fix the cause, you won't have another of the same complaint from another employee.
I worked at companies that don't have an HR department. What do they do when there is a conflict between two workers? They let both workers go and hire workers who can get along with each other.
The problem is that oftentimes an employee only goes to HR to complain about someone higher up on the totem pole, like a supervisor or a manager. In which case, they have a choice: act against the higher-up guy the company values more, or get rid of the lowly grunt the company BARELY values at all. Even if they end up having to do it 50 times the company will literally consider it less costly to go through new grunt laborers every week.
Never complain to HR. Ever! This should really be taught in high school. I was fired at the age of 45 years old, I never knew not to complain to HR but I know now. Yes, even if it is harassment it is better to start looking for another job than to go to HR because you will be fired, if you bring a complaint. Unions also are not on your side. If you are going to sue make sure you ask for a lot of money because jobs are hard to come by today and if you are fired you no longer have a reference from that company so you have to contact a previous managers which could be a problem - they have left the company or they don't want to provide a reference because they have issues! Laws need to be changed to protect workers. No, one should have to put up with being harassed at work.
My managers and supervisors drove me to severe suicidal ideation which began to form plans and behavioural actions. Took what they were doing to me, massive documentation list and recordings, to HR. My managers got promoted. I quit the next day and no one asked why I was leaving. Yet I was always the one they called when short staffed. Every time.
Twenty-one years ago I suffered occupational over-use injuries. I worked for a school district. L&I at that time required an investigation of work-place injury within ten days of (W694816) report. ESD 123 granted themselves four (4) 90 day extensions, denying payment for on-the-job medical injuries' treatment through all that time, and after having worked with overuse injuries for a year I retained an attorney as medical providers had sent me to collections. By the second 90-day extension I understood who I worked for and every email was printed and kept in a file at home. During discovery the school district claimed to have "lost" my email account but we demolished them. 'This principal emailed our client here, that administrator emailed client then, do you have their emails? Defendant has repeatedly demonstrated bad-faith.' Repeated L&I violations by a government agency are akin to qualified immunity. Keep up the good work!
As a retired employee who never dealt with HR (thank God!), I've watched a few of these videos and they all are pretty much the same. So now that I have this knowledge about HR, this is what I would do if I were in a situation where I needed to file a complaint with HR. First, I would go to my lawyer and share my complaint with them. Secondly, I would file my complaint with HR with a letter from my lawyer establishing strength to avoid any monkey business from HR. This approach, I believe, protects and weaponizes me to the level of the company and forces HR to do it job correctly. And if HR doesn't like this approach, well, they can take an aspirin.
@@SonicDeeHedgehog Seeing a lawyer for a letter of representation is just a few hundred dollars. It's just saying, this is my client. Treat him well, and I won't have to take legal action. Companies don't like legal action. It cost them too much in legal fees and bad publicity.

I think if you have an issue big enough to where you're thinking of taking it HR, talk to a lawyer first. Have your lawyer write HR a letter. Once the company knows you have enough money to afford a lawyer and can sue them, they're less likely to turn on you and make you the problem. However, if you can't afford a lawyer, instead of going to HR, go on Indeed and start looking for a new job. HR will NOT solve your problems. They will make YOU the problem and they will activity work towards making you go away.
The way you're describing it makes me wonder if there's any point of HR at all. Sometimes I have wondered if there was any kind of HR department I could have complained about at various jobs I hated and left in the past. I also know in many cases your immediate supervisor isn't even the one making any decisions when it comes to whether you are fired or not. One thing I know for sure is when I got fired from working at graton casino I can tell by the tone of my supervisors voice that even though she told me that they were firing me I could tell by her tone that she didn't actually agree with their decision. She knew I was a really good worker and that it was unfair that I got fired over one incident nobody
The point of HR is that it is a buffer between management and the executives. It exists as a tool to implement impopular decisions that affect the entire company (cost reduction, profit increase) or settle personal grudges any manager may have against you (which means you will eventually lose your job). HR will NEVER intervene on behalf of an executive: representing an executive against the company would hurt the company and representing an executive against another executive would put the reputation of the company in jeopardy. In neither case HR has nothing to gain.
That is not a true statement. I thought my union was there to protect me and I found out my union was working with my employer to fire me. That is why my employer has gotten away with this for so long. Someone before me had endured 18 years of bullying and harassment and discrimination and had to quit. Same as the agency I worked for before. She had worked there for 24 years and was bullied and harassed and to constructively terminate. Oops, there were two people that work there for 24 years the other one was fired.
Unions do nothing more than protect the weakest link. Good, productive people end up paying for the knuckleheads and slackers. If you really have worth, you shouldn’t need to depend on others to get paid for it. Don’t let 5he slackers hold you down.
the main difference between the company and a union is the union doesn’t make shit or have to balance the books. they both exist to protect and promote themselves.
If you're experiencing any issues at your company, document everything and consult a lawyer. If that's not an option, consider changing jobs. Remember, HR has never been, and likely never will be, your ally. Regardless of how wrong the company may be, HR's priority is to protect the company, often at employees' expense, potentially even casting you as the villain. So, it's best to rely on someone other than them for support.
A coworker made HR complains for sexual harassments from another coworker. They completely swept the case under the rug because they HR claimed "oh he wouldn't do that. I don't need to talk to him. You can go back to work now" . She was harrased once again, and she quit. HR was begging for her to stay, but she refused.
Follow up every complaint or word of mouth interaction with an email. Make copies of that email. Don’t ever sign anything. Document everything with dates and times. Hire a Lawyer. HR and said defendant were caught in lies during their “investigation” because I did as mentioned above along with legal advice from an employment lawyer. They have no choice but to settle now. They screwed themselves with their own investigation. If they didn’t get caught lying it would have been a tough road because they tried to cover everything up.
Can we get a video for those of us doing the grunt work in HR (like data entry) on how we can protect ourselves? HR doesn’t just go after non-HR employees. They go after all of us at the bottom too, only we have to engage with HR every minute of every day and risk having the beast turn on us too. It isn’t just a once in a while interaction. Every single day you walk in can be the day that breaks you
I have experienced all this nonsense. It's true, HR should ALWAYS be considered as an adversarial entity. They are not just not your friend, if you are having problems at work, they are your enemy.
I learned this ages ago. HR protects the managers. It must be a depressing role to work in. The best thing to do is to join a union, but workers should be suspicious of them too. Depending on the union, they can make their living by being cantankerous. That is, they’d rather exacerbate matters than seek a resolution that both the worker and employer can be happy with. I believe this is deliberate.
never go to HR. well maybe to ask a question about health benefits or the time of day. but when I asked about my health benefits, I was handed a brochure, and then she just stared at me.
Subscribed! A coworker of mine made a complaint to HR about a problem and i decided to do some research on HR departments and came across your channel!
You gotta treat HR like an enemy, they are the number 1 threat to your job! Even if you ever witness anything at work and they ask you about it always deny it and never go to them for help!
HR does come through sometimes. A leader was fired at my job was fired after all of their direct reports complained to HR about their behavior and huge amounts of evidence was collected. They decided he was more a risk than losing his whole team.
another excellent video, thanks ! yes, HR is definitely not what it feigns to be. revealing is that X number of years ago (decades) there weren't any HR departments, this is a newer invention, and it was not made to support staff.
This is so very true. One time during an investigation into an employee in our division, all of us were called by HR to discuss a toxic situation. I know i and others felt safe to say what was witnessed or how we were impacted and were hopeful that justice would be on the side of the innocent. Our expectations were smashed when HR called the division manager and revealed everything and who said what. We were retalliated on and the working conditions became hard to work in for quite awhile, meanwhile the innocent were condemned, we were treated disrespectfully, and the problem worsened. H.R is not on your side
They want to talk on the phone or in person so there are no records. What you do, after ea h call or meeting, is write HR an email that contains the details of what was discussed and any action agreed to. Conclude the email by saying you want to be sure you understand everything that was discussed. Ask them if you email is correct. If they say yes, goof for you. If they say no, they have to commit their version in writing. Also, check the laws where you live. You may legally be able to record them without their permission. If so, never discuss the recordings they're for if you go to court. BUT CHECK THE LAW! in some places it is illegal to record a conversation without the permission of everyone involve. Do not break the law.
This is why people hate big corporations so much. This is why there is no company loyalty anymore and most people only work to the rule and eventually quiet quit. It's the equivalent of having a coach that doesn't give a shit about the players on the team. They just won't produce for him. It's a losing formula based on no trust, treachery and selfishness.
3 months before I left company manager of department 2 told head of department I, they want me working for them full-time, I won't be going back to department 1. Shortly thereafter the head of department 1 (Indian) got Indian employees to start harassing me (walk past my chair saying 'head of department 1 said he won't stop harassing you until you leave', head of department 1 wants to get rid of you, you think because you of .... nationality we must be scared of you, etc.). Not to mention on my way out of building (going home) an Indian employee threatening me with a knife and gun. Told HR I'm fed up with the harassment, thinking of going to arbitration association and going to a labor lawyer. Next day called into urgent meeting, suspended for 45 days, then called into disciplinary meeting (accused of fake charges) and dismissed. 4 days later received email stating company received my resignation letter - I never resigned. Prior to above happening to me another white employee (different department) was targeted by same head of department 1, the white employee resigned with Immediate effect. His work was moved over to department 1 (Indian employees). Does that sound like nepotism / racism / discrimination by head of department 1 (Indian) ? Was the intention to replace me with Indian employees of department 1 (just like with other white employee) ? I chose to fight unfair treatment at work (unfair labor practice) by not responding or retaliating (just ignored it), but reported issue to HR. What is the lesson in above scenario, don't ever trust HR (human resources), if you're an employee, they are not your friend. Don't complain, just get another job, then resign.
What i find absolutely CRAZY is why is the superior, the higher paid employee being complained about the one being defended. Like how is the one pointing out racial discrimination, bullying, hostile work environment, making people qanf to kill themselves etc why isnt the PROBLEM the one that gets seen as the risk and not the ones suffering.
I believe it is because if you bring these problems to light, then someone has to literally do something, and heaven forbid someone has to do some actual work.
I didn't do anything but stand up for my rights. Ticked off everybody. I was faced with a hostile work environment, nasty things being said about me. All type of things. Because I was tired of being taken advantage of.
When I worked in a factory. The only times I was called into HR was so i can fill out my information for payroll and signing up for direct deposit. I would say hi to the Hr ladies when i came into work daily. They were friendly but I didn't trust them. So i kept everything brief.
Shalom! I am currently going thru this right now. One manager has already contacted Human Resources about me. She and another manager issued me a PIP. I maybe on my way out.

I appreciate the info sir! I just lost my job with a island municipality here in NC. However since this is a right to work state they can fire me because they didn't feel good that day and just wanted to see a man crushed...
Who says you can't do anything? Im pretty sure in Texas if your manager or HR department cuts your throat, they must immediately start sleeping with one eye open and stay out of any place public or risk taking a severe beat down in front of their family
I remember telling my friend who worked as a grievance coordinator for a big PBM that her actual job was to "protect" the company's interest, not help the customers, and although helping the customers can be a part of it, its not the main focus of that job. My friend refused to believe me... This is what happens when you live in a corporate dystopia and I hate it.
You need to get all your proof like any emails, notes about what went on out of the company's reach asap. Once you report, your chances of keeping it are diminshed.
During my first job as a teen I thought HR was a position to kind of fight against the company in your favor. Boy I was wrong, made a legitimate claim against my shift manager, 2 weeks later I was fired for suspicion of theft. Now I'll be honest with you, I was thieving up a storm, but they never actually knew that, they just wanted me gone
This is why most people who get fired are not victims, just bad workers lol! They probably knew someone was stealing but your complaint just made them focus on you and kick you out. Fumbled the bag. Can't be stealing or slacking on a job then bring attention to yourself haha! Hope you learned from it.
Little tip here Ladies and Gents. Don't ever let HR know you are more intelligent than them, you will be fired for denting their ego's. It happened to me at shAMAZON UK.
Rule 1 in life: Don’t talk to the police. Rule 2 in life: Don’t talk to HR. Rule 3 in life: Get a good lawyer even if you have to sell something to afford it. I had to hire one for a speeding violation earlier this year and it honestly felt like cheating in the courtroom😂. They handled everything and I just had to stand there and look innocent.
At 3:54, while I agree that HR can be shameful in its lies, it's also noteworthy that some HR offices (or at least some HR generalists) are just plain incompetent. I've seen HR offices lacking in basic knowledge of admin leave, payroll processing timelines, and other separation logistics. Heck, these HR folks would love to lie and wish they had enough process and legal knowledge to do so, but, alas, the best they can do is start to run with the ball and then take a tumble.
I had an HR manager do this while I was on medical leave. I checked in weekly as supposed to and they took notes, but then when they threatened to fire me for not being on medical leave because they didn't approve it, all the notes were 'lost' and they had my manager tell their narrative. Fortunately, I kept paperwork and was able to prove it was approved but they harassed me so bad I quit. Found out later I should have let them fire me then I could sue.
The worst hr ever was I complained about a employee who called out all the time then I got fired for being a stellar employee but 5 years later they were all fired never use hr at all great video

Somebody needs to get their shit together Protecting u as an employee is protecting the company from catching lawsuits That's so stupid Get rid of the problematic worker so they sue We have to change these slave master ways
The thing is, you can sue but all they have to do is make up a bunch of reasons why YOU were a bad employee and that was why you were let go. The second they see you as a problem, they watch every single move you make. You took a minute longer during break? That's getting written down. You forgot to write the date on a document? That's getting written down. They won't tell you they're watching you. But they're watching you and building a case against you. Even though you went to them because you're being sexually harassed.
you are right in America their is no legal federal law protecting workers from confidentiality. In Canada however HR must keep things confidential or they can be fined and or lose their job under the (PIPA) Personal Information Protection Act
I have experienced all of these everywhere I have worked busting my behind going the extra mile and giving my 110% and most of all, being observant of rules and regulations of the company and obeying all chain of command. Like if nothing can go worse, not DOL to defend me
I learned that just before I retired from a hospital I worked at and and a job I once loved for 36 years. An HR person was assigned to our nursing unit to "be there for us and our needs and address our concerns" but she was actually helping the unhinged manager abuse the employees. All 50+ us have resigned or found new jobs.
Let it progress to the point where your abuser at work physically harms you, you immediately report the physical harm to police that day to get the abuser arrested, then contact lawyer to sue the company for $400,000, then look for another job, let’s go !!!!
Same dynamic with “advocates” at medical places… they are on team “paycheck” and are effective at protecting the provider/company, and the patient is the problem… especially with federal employee facilities… like the VA Hospitals that vets are required to use and are too afraid to use…it’s damn near impossible to get a federal employee fired. The money linked to veteran healthcare has to be channeled first thru the VA providers… and to use a civilian provider? Got to use the VA channels for approval. Can’t get away from the VA… and their advocates are on team “not a snitch”… advocacy should not be seen as snitching, but it is…

It’s a government subsidized position for undesirables
I only deal with HR when I sign/verify a contract, when I need a proof of employment, and when I resign. Else, I stay miles away from them.

Obviously I quit, because I couldn't morally reconcile my conscience to what I was supposed to do to get payed... and I detest anyone working in HR to this day.
thanks for doing so
This is also what I learned when I studied HR. And I have wondered since where this other thinking is coming from.

This video is so right. HR is not for the workers, but for the company.
So basically work is just a terrible place to be.
That would be just if it was true but unfortunately it isn’t, they only protect companies and management!
@@bmoshareholderappleshareho855 consider yourself a migrant worker.
HR is not the friend of any employee. Anyone that tells you any different, is simply just lying to you.

HR staff are the disgusting blue falcons of society.
why they are called Hopeless Resources
My managers and supervisors drove me to severe suicidal ideation which began to form plans and behavioural actions.
Took what they were doing to me, massive documentation list and recordings, to HR.
My managers got promoted.
I quit the next day and no one asked why I was leaving. Yet I was always the one they called when short staffed. Every time.
Yah um wat
If you can afford a lawyer. Which most people can't. That's why HR knows they can do anything they want to you because you can't do shit back.
@@SonicDeeHedgehog Seeing a lawyer for a letter of representation is just a few hundred dollars. It's just saying, this is my client. Treat him well, and I won't have to take legal action. Companies don't like legal action. It cost them too much in legal fees and bad publicity.

What if you and the HR director literally become super tight and like friends. HR ppl usually done get anyone to see them unless it’s work related about complaints, but if you come and see them daily from the moment you get your job and gradually grow a close friendship I feel like it could be a potential safety net down the line.
That’s my plan for the next place I go to. Or I need to Revamp my business- I gave it all up for a 2 hour pitch about a job that’s so amazing and all inclusive w housing etc so who could turn that down ? My tiny consulting was actually doing well and sustaining after I left my previous job to tend to my medical needs. I gave all of that up for these mfs lol I am so angry w myself for being once again naive and believing that owners have best interest at heart.
If I am ever employed by a company again me and the HR director will be bffs - watxh lol
HR works for your boss, not you. This is why everyone needs a union
@@HostileWorkplaceEXPOSED
So the correct statement is "no one protect the workers but themselves"
Unions are for losers I’d never need any of this
Unions do nothing more than protect the weakest link.
HR is there to protect the company from the employees. full stop.
HR is literally the government’s kommissar, political, office within companies.
Unions are also not there to help you.
Who ever thought HR is a friend? The only time you should ever interact with them is when they hire you
never go to HR. well maybe to ask a question about health benefits or the time of day. but when I asked about my health benefits, I was handed a brochure, and then she just stared at me.
In office job, no one in the workplace is your friend. No matter how friendly they constantly may appear.
Subscribed! A coworker of mine made a complaint to HR about a problem and i decided to do some research on HR departments and came across your channel!
I had to threaten to call the police twice on my job, on 2 separate occasions for human resources for them to take me seriously.
You gotta treat HR like an enemy, they are the number 1 threat to your job! Even if you ever witness anything at work and they ask you about it always deny it and never go to them for help!
Your manager will be told before you can get back to your desk. Been there and had it done to me.
so truth , I totally agree with your sayings . I have witnessed that .truth that .
HR does come through sometimes. A leader was fired at my job was fired after all of their direct reports complained to HR about their behavior and huge amounts of evidence was collected. They decided he was more a risk than losing his whole team.
Exactly. HR weighed up their options and decided this was the path of least resistance.
40 years ago a complaint "I dislike my coworker" were dismissed, but nowadays taken seriously.
another excellent video, thanks ! yes, HR is definitely not what it feigns to be. revealing is that X number of years ago (decades) there weren't any HR departments, this is a newer invention, and it was not made to support staff.
Yes, I have seen that. HR always identifies with management. Workers must NEVER go to HR. The best thing is to belong to a union.
This and the video about your coworkers are not your friend, should be required viewing for every single worker in America.
3 months before I left company manager of department 2 told head of department I, they want me working for them full-time,
I won't be going back to department 1.
This is shot for shot what happened to me. Great work. Wish I had known and seen this before.

We have to change these slave master ways
The thing is, you can sue but all they have to do is make up a bunch of reasons why YOU were a bad employee and that was why you were let go. The second they see you as a problem, they watch every single move you make. You took a minute longer during break? That's getting written down. You forgot to write the date on a document? That's getting written down. They won't tell you they're watching you. But they're watching you and building a case against you. Even though you went to them because you're being sexually harassed.
