I was a Teamster for 20 years. I got involved with union stuff when I first started. It didn’t take long to discover that the union was nothing but a clique; if you played golf, or rode motorcycles, or hung out with the right group of guys, you could get a grievance filed for little or no reason. If not, it was a bunch of double talk about the “language of the contract “, etc. In the long run, I was just a guy who came in did my job and went home. The company I work for now is so PC that you’re afraid to even joke around for fear of hurting someone’s feelings and have them run to HR.

HR are the scum of the earth, that's for sure.

Some of the nastiest people ive met was at work, But also some of the nicest and most genuine. Alot of lessons learned from the nasty ones but it made me for the better. Nothing beats meeting and getting to know the very few good ones that have your back through the rough times. They are like a breath of fresh air. All in all, be friendly, wholesome, genuine and authentic. Learn from your mistakes and other's mistakes. Don't be afraid to make friends.

I was once wrote up and I was doing my job but I refused to sign it because I knew I was innocent. I asked my boss what happened if I did not sign it and she said I am sending you home until further notice.I stayed near the phone for days and no calls from her. I then tried to collect unemployment and they believed her and I was rejected. I feel I was wronged but it was her word against mine. Could I have had grounds to sue her company?

No one who works for a corporation is on the employees' side. Corporate goals are to get as much out of human beings as possible for as little money as possible. We are commodities to corporations, not people. NEVER complain to anyone at work about anything. It will come back and bite you in the ass. If you have a legal complaint, get a lawyer.

Daily harassment in the workplace is collaboration with boys in the field.

You don’t get your regularly scheduled pay raise when you’re supposed to. They start denying any FUTURE DATES for requests off. They suddenly don’t issue a “disciplinary action” for something that you NORMALLY WOULD HAVE received a “write-up” for (because they plan on firing your ass in a few days, anyway).

This is why you need Unions - my co-workers and I have stood together against our employers plenty of times because we had that protection. I think some of the friendships you form at work can be real, but I agree, most are just situational.

I got a 7-day suspension for being late. Pending termination. Union saved my job on 3rd day. The company allowed me to come back while still in suspension. Day 1' 2 and 3 I tried to clock in and rejected, no schedule, needed override. They end up firing me, I couldn't clock in on time cause I needed an find a manager for override but I'm not schedule so how am I late. Plus, 11pm start. I'm there 1103, and the cut-off time is 1107. They said that regardless of the 1107 rule, technically, 1101 is late. I get there before half the crew, and im the only one late. My union shop stewards are managers, so they sided with Company decision and my union rep went MIA. She told them to tell me she's on medical leave. Union took my Union dues and then stabbed me in the back. 9 years on the job. No one told me about the 2 week file grievance deadline either

Sorry. I could not disagree anymore with this. Some of the best friends I've ever made in my life I met at work and have remained friends with for many years after I no longer worked with them.

Most companies take your access badge away or just turn off access you keep the card.
