Another, really OLD vet here. I saw your question about whether soldiers regret going to war. I was only 19 having spent 2 years elsewhere and I was at the Atlanta airport waiting hours for the flight to my next post. I had $1.25 in my pocket and I had been travelling for almost a day. I had enough for a hamburger and coffee and when it was delivered the waitress took the top bun off and spit on the hamburger to emphasize her contempt for me and what I had done. This was after the screams of baby killer and worse sent my way as I walked the airport. It took me years to feel like a part of society again. Some had it far worse than me so I am not complaining. I volunteered and I keep my oaths so I did what I had to do and though I would do anything to go back and save some brothers, I can live with my deeds. I plan on taking this song with me the next time I go visit their graves so I can play it for them. Thank you for your kind words and your wonderful reactions.

Wow , I’m sorry for what you went through 😔 some people seem to only focus on the negative and some people are so naive. The lady from Atlanta clearly doesn’t understand what America would be like if we didn’t have any soldiers. Thank you for your service I know it’s hard but I’m glad you eventually began to feel part of society again. ♥️🇺🇸🗽🫡

I served eight years in the Marines and Desert Storm combat veteran.when we came home there were so many people with signs of support and much love for us,especially in the airports.
All I could think of is what the Vietnam veterans came home to and was treated like and just walked past.
People who have never served can’t understand we are sent to war but we fight for the brothers at our side.
