I would agree these are just street machines done up to look like the old scramblers but, Motorcyclist magazine took two of these in an adventure rally and they held their own pretty well from the looks of it, and unless they changed a lot about these bikes from '15-now i would say for anything outside of rock climbing and deep mud bogging these would do what you needed them to do off road

  • @briananderson2219

This is such a great episode! It’s not always about peak horsepower. People need to remember a lot of motorcycling is about how the motorcycle makes you feel about yourself while you’re on it. That has nothing to do with peak horsepower, whereas these bikes all three of them would most certainly make you feel good in an urban environment

Agree with comments saying they should've used a Desert Sled, and I'm a big R9T fan (and the Urban G/S is even more "Scrambler" than the Scrambler!), but I'd have the Triumph, in green. National pride aside it's absolutely stunning and thankfully also a great bike.

    • @Trex531

I agree Desert Sled is more “Scrambler”, but for this comparison, Ducati Scrambler is perfect.

I have the BMW and it is a fantastic bike to ride and easily the best looking Scrambler. Mine also has the optional Rev meter with the gear indicator on the second dial.

BMW: again another big heavy beast from Germany. However, this one looks gorgeous with its traditional air cooled twin. Probably the best BMW available for me, but this is NOT a scrumbler in my opinion.
TRIUMPH: the best scrumbler looking among the three in everything, for me. It also performs like a scrumbler.
DUCATI: it is the only one among them that can be called "scrumbler", beautiful and iconic.
    Conclusion: three beautiful bikes!!

    • @MybeautifulandamazingPrincess

And what is your opinion based on? BMW is the company with the most off road experience between these 3, and the most successful overland line of bikes (the GS). I'm pretty sure they know how to make a scrambler

The Triumph looks and sounds nice. The 1200 variant has more than enough power for the road which is where these bikes would spend most of their lives. Bit pricey though, especially to take offroad where there's a higher risk of dropping them! That BMW's tank is far too big though, for me it just looks out of place. I wouldn't mind having that Triumph in my garage.

    • @Trex531
      @Trex531 3 роки тому

I agree. But nevertheless I would not buy the 1200 Scrambler, unnecessarily big for the purpose. I have the Triumph Scrambler 900, the one before Street Scrambler and it does its job pefectly aside of being a beautiful retro bike.

The BMW weighs the same as the Triumph with double the horse power. The Triumph weighs 203+12 litr petrol=215. The BMW weighs 220 incl 17 petrol, 203-17=203.

I’d buy the Ducati because it’s the lightest, then upgrade the suspension with some Öhlins.
Can’t believe that no one hauls Ducati over hot coals for making a dummy fork leg. Only one of the fork legs has a shock absorber, the other one does nothing.

I put Fox Shox and Shinko 804/805 tires on my 2018 Triumph Scrambler and have taken it the same places as my Tiger 800XCa here in Colorado. Hagerman Pass from Leadville and the likes. The T Scram is a perfect all a rounder for most guys who want to do some 80/20 riding. These clowns make me laugh by going down a gravel road a half mile...such "experts" are a dime a dozen...but they're getting paid and I'm not so they're the obvious "experts".

V-twins are 45 degree engine hence the naming.
L-twins are 90 degree engine hence the naming.
It is the most basic of geometry vs alphabet. There is nothing anal about it, a 90 degree twin even tilted forward is not a 45 degree twin. Therefore L-twin and V-twin are indeed two completely different configurations and as such deserves to be differentiated. Likewise a boxer engine also called flat twin is a 180 degree engine. It is not rocket science. And then there is the parallel twin like the ones find in certain Triumph models.
The reason bike testers should be able to make the difference is that surely the manufacturers have chosen the said configuration for a reason that dubious or not should be translated onto the road whether it is the behaviour of the bike itself, its overall design, its sound, vibrations, weight distribution or whatever. One would expect a proper bike tester to know the difference and explain what could eventually make one configuration better than the other and under what circumstances, terrain or driving style. It is like knowing the difference between 2 or 4 strokes, mono, twin, tri and four cylinders. This is the sort of criteria (other than look) that would definitely drive my decision to buy a bike or not as long as it is properly explained.

    • @richardguy8879

Talking shite. The Ducati is a 90 degree v twin. The term L twin has always been a poor choice to describe the configuration as an L has two different length arms, implying two different length stroke on front and rear cylinder ... Yes? V twin much better. V twin come in lots of different included angles motoguzzi made their v8 with 120 degrees. Harley's use 45. Moroni did theirs with 47.5 . Honda built one with with 60 . Plastic maggot I think had 55. The reviewer is using the correct descriptive term rather a marketing term. If you want to be a complete pedant you should say it's L twin with the L tilted at 15 degrees!

Just going to jump into the "V-twin" argument. A "V" has two equal arms and a less than 90 degree angle. An "L" has one long and one short arm and a 90 degree angle. In brief, the Ducati engine is no more an L than it is a V.

At the end of the day if you want to off road you would not buy any of these three, rather you would go for a proper off road motorbike. These are as the reviewer say, just roadsters with a scrambler look. With this in mind, there is no rival for bmw r9t scrambler, the most beautiful and most agile, and mind you by some distance, among the three.

There is no way this is an fair review, i find you are always biased toward Triumph in your reviews, it is not a good plan we can see through it🤷🏻‍♂️ i happen to love the Triumph scrambler but just be honest about its shortcomings, it suits an older larger rider that doesnt want to go fast, just say so, no need to make excuses, that is the market for it, it is also easy to modify, but it is overpriced for what it is, the R9 has very little off road capability, is more of a cafe racer and is very expensive, the Ducati has several varients is by far the quickest and probably the best value for money if you want to actually go off road, but it lacks style, so buy the Triumph if you fit the user group, there review done for you

lol that bmw... yeah with the low profile and teh engine covers all open what could go wrong. Damn yuppies ruind everything (or hipsters'). These "scramblers" are total crap. The off road ability of those is just as much as any other bike not meant for that, I´d feel so pretencious riding one. Bikes are not for everyone, they never were, they never will they need to stop pandering to the casuals, like the HD street rod, its stupid, they are just throwing money out the window on RD instead of making something actually good (like a less cheap looking street 750 would had been better)
