I’ve popped some Dank Woolies on my street scrambler, and I’ve been ran off the road and had to jump the curb with no other issues than bending my front rim a little. I’ve had it off road on everything from loose gravel roads to single tracks and spent all day touring on it as well. I’ve found it’s super comfy and pretty capable on and off road. Even with all that said I like the benefits that the Ducati has.
I have a ducati scrambler icon and i want to put a Sled suspension on it so bad. That being said, i also really want to at least ride a triumph scrambler to see the difference
You absolutely deserve your large number of subscribers! In depth and fair analysis, especially since you own one and could have been way more biased. I enjoyed my Triumph, and it suited my Noob status and shorter height. As you say, does forestry roads well but standing for any length of time was uncomfortable due to outward stance of right leg needed to clear high pipes. Would get lots of attention!
"it feels a little wrong doing it." Of course it does. The SS is just a Bonneville with nobby tires and a high exhaust. More for flare than function. Offroad aesthetic on a modern classic.
Hard to find neutral? Back-in-the-day we'd do what we called 'break the clutch' before we even started the engine. Put it in gear and with the clutch lever squeezed to the handlebar, rock the bike back n forth until the clutch sticktion breaks free. Now you're ready to go. When you come to a situation that dictates a full stop, click it into neutral before you are stopped by 2 to 5 feet. Your previously 'freed' clutch won't drag you through the intersection as you look for neutral. Love your videos, I have a Desert Sled, and started dirt riding with a '67 TR6C.
Well consider me your hero then. Key West to Prudhoe Bay Alaska, and then back to New Orleans on the Street Scrambler. Dalton Highway, plenty of off-roading in the desert, etc. But yeah, the Desert Sled is way better off the road, easily. Don't forget Henry Crew took one around the world. The 1200 XE will be my next Triumph. I love my Street Scrambler and it won't be going away, but I need sometime more aggressive off-road. First serious rock steps and I decided I won't be doing that again. Good thing I got a beefy skid plate...
As many have pointed out, the comparison is very flawed. You either compare the Street Scrambler to the normal Ducati Scrambler, or the Desert Sled to the Triumph 1200 XE/XC. Different tools for different jobs.
The statement you made about the difficulty in finding neutral; I had the same problem until I found out the little screw just on the inside of the clutch lever, can be used to adjust the clutch. What's really happening is that your clutch is not fully released it's still pulling a little bit. That's why you think that you aren't getting high torque when you go above 7000 revs per minute but actually that's when the true power kicks in on your Ducati. Your clutch needs adjusting because it's not fully released. You should have a little bit of play, and when you pull the clutch after half a centimeter or so you should hear a tiny little click. Once I calibrated that properly neutral it was instantly easy to find, and the bike started performing better at high reps which is how the bike is supposed to perform in the first place. It's able to perform hi power low revs and high-power Hi-Revs. Get your clutch fixed man. if you are losing power at high revs and I heard you say it doesn't seem to have much power at high revs, that means your clutch is not completely released it's too tight
Noon, I moved to Austin from New Mexico, a little under three years ago. I was there for about 20 years. Would love to hear where you went on your New Mexico trip.
I am considering a scrambler but am leaning to the standard Ducati Scrambler Icon, looks to be more comparable to the Triumph. Also, costs less. DS is longer and heavier, suits taller riders. But I do like the DS, I'm conflicted.
Haven’t had any issues with my sled’s gearbox since new. Shifts well and can find N quite easily. But It’s definitely not Honda smooth. And I am used to Guzzi transmissions.. so there’s that.
yeah naah... the ducati sled is definitely comparable to the triumph 1200 xc/xe. and not the street scrambler that would be the ducati icon maybe. You said it, but still!
Just from the looks the desert sled is more off road capable but you have the least off road Triumph scrambler. You are too use to 6 speed transmissions, you don't need those on most bikes. If you are rev'ing the nuts off of a sport bike going for 180 MPH that's a totally different ball game. These bikes have torque in a much lower rpm range. No need for 6 gears, 4 will do with 1 highway gear.
Just came from your triumph review so i knew your choice lol still watched . great vid think the word street compared to desert is the giveaway for me love from wales uk
Aww man! I wish you would have compared the Triumph to the Icon Dark or a Nightshift. Those are more comparable. I would not take my Icon Dark or my husband’s Nightshift off road.

definitely ducati. not saying the triumph doesn't look good but the ducati is just so much more functional(at least based on the looks). plenty of ground clearance, better suspension, etc.
Woulike to know the servis intervals on the desert sled and costs, nice bike and I like it but I'm steering towards thr Triumph XE scrambler as I want to carry a pillion. After seeing what Ernie Vigil can do on one makes me want one more, especially as I used to motocross and enduro on four strokes.
I'd like to have seen you compare them on windy mountain road. How do they compare for cornering? I just got a '22 Street Scrambler and live in the mountains at 8,000' and work up a windy mountain road at 9,000'. Although it's no sport bike/crotch rocket, it's a blast on the mountain roads. Just wondering how the Ducati does in the curves.
Comparing ANY modern bike against a 900cc Bonneville is really punching down. They are slugs. Review a Speed Twin. It's the best version of about a dozen different bikes Triumph builds on the Bonneville platform.
I had it and I liked it in the first month but then I put off the rose-coloured glasses. Power is a little too less, brakes are a little too bad, sound is too small, suspension is just okay, ... so everything was not really bad but too far from great. Now the KTM 890 makes me smile on every rid but if I look at it - damn - the KTM is so ugly. Maybe I should give the big Scambler a chance.
Wrong comparison, you should have taken the Scrambler 1200 XC, this one the Street, is a plain road bike with totally road specs and hardware and a poor 65cv engine, no match at all.

I love that desert sled. It seems that finding neutral on an Italian bike It’s pretty normal! It’s sort of reminds me of the old XTs. I have road and scrambler to play with. Oh! And can I win the Ducati sled please! Much prefer it 😂😂😂
this isn't a great comparison tbh. Should have compared the triumph with a normal ducati scrambler. Or compared your ducati with the Triumph Scrambler 1200 XC
Was going to say this, the street scrambler is a scrambler in name and looks only, while the actual rally package seems to be pretty boss and lives up to it's off-road stylings
The Triumph is a nice styling exercise. But the mighty Desert Sled! I love this bike for 2 reasons: It's dead serious and in that regard a real alternative to the dualsports. And the looks! Can't help but finding the Desert Sled one of the most beautiful bikes on the market.

Hey Papa Yams, just letting you know, you've got a frozen/stiff chain link on your desert sled at 05:40 ... might be time for a new chain! ride safe, you beautiful memelord
Although I'm a Triumph fan-boy - just looking at them you have to say the Desert Sled is Streets ahead. However compare it to the 1200 Triumph scrambler with the fancy suspension and 21in wheel - then the decision would be reversed.
The Triumph is for the guy with a house on two surveyed acres down a one mile gravel road... The Ducati is for the guy with ten acres of wildlands down a five mile gravel road.
As much as I like the looks of the triumphs. It looks like they think, " I'll take the same frame, same engine, same suspension etc, call it something else. By throwing different pipes, little more aggressive tires and like you said, a plastic skid plate. And poof! You have an adventure bike. NO! you don't. Now, the Ducati. You put all those true off road features on it and add turn signals, and other road necessary features on it,,, and it's street usable. Triumphs are sweet, no doubt. But don't call it a scrambler by tossing it a few off road tidbits.
@YammieNoob sorry to say but you should have compared the Triumph scrambler XE or XC to the Ducati Desert Sled. I'm in the market for a scrambler and it's between those three. Any suggestions y'all? I'm leaning toward the Desert Sled.
Can't say say enough about how much I enjoy your reviews. Your intelligence, detail orientation and customer focus effectively differentiates you from just about every bike reviewer on UA-cam, with the exception of a few gentlemen who share your passion for riding & reporting on the abundant new products coming to market. Well done! The question asked @ 31.57 ought to seal the deal for most consumers; the honest answer ought to be unpacked a tad more to include access to quality dealerships and other cost of ownership issues.
The ducati 748 front sprocket fits straight on and gives the sled proper Ducati acceleration without sacrificing top end and also enables you to get into second gear earlier on dirt roads as I always found the first gear too tall.

Can someone tell me if this bike is a good deal: 2006 Triumph Daytona 675 Trip w/ 29k miles listed at $3,200
You keep comparing the sled to a sumo, how about your sled vs spites smc r?
@The Moby Thicc My suggestion (given your Body Mass Index statistics) is a Peleton. Seriously.
Yammie could you please do a ergonomics check on the desert sled with josh....p.s. Love from india
You should do a video on the 1100 scramblers.
I think the scrambler is way better than the scambler.
Well obviously

It’s literally called the STREET scrambler. Price shouldn’t be the determining factor for the comparison
Well this should settle it. Is yammie more of a triumph simp or a Ducati simp
