Scramblers in the Rockies! Ducati Scrambler vs Triumph Scrambler | ON TWO WHEELS

- Опубліковано 28 вер 2024
- Before there were ADV bikes, enduros, or even dirt bikes, there were Scramblers. Simple, versatile bikes that you rode everywhere, including off road. In this episode of On Two Wheels, Zack and Ari take on the Rocky Mountains aboard modern-day Scramblers from Ducati and Triumph, to see what motorcycle adventures were like before the advent of the modern ADV bike.

As Tolkien said, "Short cuts make for long delays."
What they won't tell you: the cameraman rode a scooter.
Won't doubt that one bit, you need at least one pair if wheels capable of hauling ass in such terrains when the rest are just overpriced pussy-bikes.
Krzysztof Bosak lol
Honda sells an adventure scooter where I'm from.
@@jerdasaurusrex557 Are you from planet earth too?
@@jerdasaurusrex557 Honda x-adv eh?
This was one of the best "review" videos I've seen. I can get all the specs from the company website and when people doing a review focus on the minutiae the personality of the bike gets lost.
From this video, I feel as if I have a good understanding about what it's really like to ride those bikes. You showed where the bikes worked well and where they reached their limits while at the same time coming across as regular guys who are reasonably good (competent) riders. Well done! I subscribed and I look forward to more videos like this.
I started riding in 1972 on the old enduros and those were great days.

Well said

@@dreyn7780 Tell that to the trial bikes :)
GOD DAMN!!!! FINALLY a worthwhile motorcycle video on youtube! You guys are FAR better at this than those who pretend to be seasoned motorcycle journalists...and you capture the TRUE spirit of adventure in this video!! Jealous?...damn straight!! Impressed? ...ABSOLUTELY!! You just gained a new subscriber!!
I wouldn't call you guys idiots. I think you're right, that's the true spirit of offroading. Bikes are supposed to be fun, and you guys once again showed that you can have fun on these bikes! Awesome video.
7 years later and this is still a great video. Especially because it shows the actual limit of what these bikes will actually do - knobby tires included.
How can you not love this sort of video? These guys' personalities, the retro throwback bikes and gear, awesome scenery and terrain! This is living, these guys got it right.
The best thing about the video is that they didn't compare the bikes like in the other videos. They showcased the true nature of the bikes and showed what they are capable of!! Keep up guys!!
Hands Down best Review ever.I Never understood the scrambler Hype. Now i Need One.
LOL when the Trumpy’s muffler came off. Props for living the real ADV spirit: it’s not so much about picking the machine itself, as much as what you choose to do and where you choose to go with it. You guys now have some epic stories, pics, and video.
The Triumph sounded great without the silencers...
One of the best motorcycle videos I have seen in a long time. I suppose Ducati Scrambler is a better one of the two considering the fact that it a full 48 Kgs lighter than the Triumph and 18 horses more with the almost same torque. Some Skid plates and upswept exhaust with some tuning to the suspension would make the Ducati a really good offroader .
The Ducati would be incredible with some longer suspension travel and an engine guard! The look of it is also really cool, modern yet classic. And good size tires too
Ducati desert sled :)
You should have invited one more and taken the RnineT scrambler with you. Would love to see how it coped.
Would have lost a cylinder head going down like the triumph did many times.
Dude one drop, and they'd crack the cylinder head cover and be stranded
Yeah that would have been interesting.
I could smell the dirt, grass and mountains in this video.
I really enjoyed watching this episode! It’s great to see the extent of these pretty bikes’ ability to “rough it out” off road in nature. I myself ride the Cafe Racer version of the Ducati Scrambler outside of its “pre-destined cafe norms” ... 😬 with clip-ons, and stock Pirelli Diablos on 100+ mile trips with unexpected off road routes, but NOTHING like this video. Great video guys!!
I love the scrbler style coming out but haven't seen many people out to put them to the test. great to watch you guys having fun and getting muddy.
I wanna see these guys try this again with the new Scrambler 1200. I'm still excited as hell for that bike.
Best episode of the season so far! Keep em coming
This was really cool. I grew up hearing stories from my dad about Triumph Scramblers from the 60's and this makes me want to sell my Speedmaster and get a Scrambler more than ever.
UN vídeo genial!!! yo tengo una Urban Enduro (Ducati Scrambler) y la meto por todo tipo de terrenos, es una moto divertida y ligera. Vss!!!
Wow! You guys are living the dream. And thanks for showing us how beautiful Colorado is on bikes.Great Video!
I bet you guys were happy you had TKC80's! Keep it coming guys!
The triumph without the muffler sounds soo good!
You'll have a cracking story to tell the grandkids in 40 years from now. Bravo!
Great job guys! I'm totally one of those 300\250 2 stroke guys who rides in the rockies, and you were doing so great on those machines! and then ride them on the road again, so awesome! brilliant video!
These are the same bikes being sold on Craigslist with “never been dropped” in the description. Lol
Looking at getting a triumph scrambler 2015, and 100% not going to go this heavy offroad. So glad to see the bike actually did pretty well seeing it was not meant to do this kind of riding.
This looks fun as hell. A lot of respect for tackling those double diamonds!
Very generous guys, all the hard work and looking silly was a pretty good time for me! Thank you good job.
No sorries! Great job! Great cartoon music to match the excellent 'fun at any cost' bouyant attitudes! You guys rocked it!
that bike sounds so sexy with no muffler
When I first bought my Multistrada I believed the hype that it was an adventure bike. I took it on Owl Creek Pass west of Gunnison to Montrose. Not terribly difficult, but certainly taught me the adventure part of ADV should be in lower case. I wouldn't even consider riding it on the trails you guys took. You both have a big pair of brass ones!
Great video, would've loved to do this with ya. The triumph sounds better sans exhaust, haha.
Suddenly that muffler coming off is the best thing ever. sounds proper !
That was a real challenge for man and those machines. Much tougher than l was expecting.
Reminded of me of taking my Bonneville down the fire fighting trails of the Brown County Forests during the mid-60's, often at night, in all kinds of weather. I didn't know anything about off-roading and I never saw anyone else on a bike off the road; I just did it, because it was fun.
These are my favourite type of bikes, and I think what I got into riding for. A little two wheeler that is versatile, looks good and can take you most anywhere.
Awesome video guys! You really fueled my recent fascination with scramblers. I'm 6'3 300lbs and currently ride a DRZ400S, do you think they make one that I could adapt well enough to fit me? I'm afraid of a broken back and dead suspension.
+ColoradoDualSport I want to do this rally with you and Hermit some day. Looks so fun!
I like the Triumph sound after the exhaust fail :-)
Props for the treck ~3min mark on those scramblers. The whole trip looks like a great time!
Now I’d REALLY love to see a redo on this but with a Ducati Desert Sled to see how that fares!
This vid came up in my recommendations. It would have to be the best ive seen on UA-cam.
One point to think about is that most 1960s and 1970s Scramblers were anywhere from 100cc to 500cc with the most popular being around the 350cc until trail bikes like the Honda SL 350 made them obsolete ,, 800cc and over as a scambler is a bit nuts and a bit heavy IMO ,, They need to make some at about 350cc ,that would be worth a look ,, but I think an XR400 R or a hair raising Maico 490 is a bit more practical ( well maybe the Honda anyways ) lol ,, or you can do as other's do and custom build a scrambler from old CB Honda's and such ,, : )
+Steve O'Hare yeah im wondering why triumph doesnt do a 675 version of the striple for offroad that would be a 107cv 160kg moto it will be the perfect scrambler this one is too heavy and not handling well at all
+Steve O'Hare I rode a BSA B40 as a trial's bike in the '70s and it was great getting through places where other bikes struggled.
I rode a 1972 Yamaha TY 80 Trials bike as my first bike ( for Trials ) ,,A wee bit smaller lol
Michael Fulks Wow ,,Love those old BSA's ,, bet you wished you had it now ,, I had an old Montesa Trials and a TY 125 ,, lots of Bultaco's back then too where I was : )
+Steve O'Hare .. BSA's, Bultaco's, Montessa's and lots of other off road bikes bit the dust when the magazines started doing dynos and showing how little HP they actually had... too bad they didn't upgrade their products so we'd still have lots of companies to choose from... of course, it was also difficult for them to compete with 40c/hour Asian wages...
What they won't tell you : the cameraman was riding a bicycle
This is the kind of terrain I was hitting every day in the summer on my pieced-together 90cc, '74 Honda. Then on my 200 cc Yamaha dual sport.
That is probably one of the better reviews of a pair of multi purpose bikes. It looked fun. I did that on a1971 Triumph Tiger for sixty thousand FUN miles mostly east of the Mississippi. More fun than any other bike that I owned, from a nifty thrifty Honda 50 to a Suzuki GS1000 Rocket.
This is my favorite motorcycle UA-cam video full stop. Excellent
Seeing that Triumph in action makes me want one more
Best comparison Duke and Triumph both are famous brands. Nice to see they are back to the market and still keep their popular name.
Guys didn’t bring any tape, ratchet strap, wire, or jb weld?
Never been so jealous in my life. This definitely beats the streets of NYC.
by far the best video on the 2 scramblers. way to go guys you're the best
Just wondering how the royal enfield himalayan will do on this route!
hahahhaaahahahahahahahahaaaa
hahahhaaahahahahahahahahaaaa
the idea is not that crazy, royal enfield are incredible bikes, it has a 410cc very utlra mega reliable engine that runs forever, is the adventure bike for india... or you just can go for a new 2016 KLR that will do the same but cooler
This episode needs to be 10 minutes longer lol I was so disappointed when it ended. Good stuff
ordered a scrambler on ebay for $40.39.....
Whattt 😂😂😂
Come to watch this video again, the Triumph sounded pretty nice with half of the exhaust fallen off
great vid! We could do without the woo-ing.
+jakobreid79 Sorry, we'll tell the boys to have less fun next time!
+Motorcyclist Magazine seriously...some nerve! ;-)
+Motorcyclist Magazine Could you tell me what jacket ari henning is wearing, I can't seem to find it online. Thanks!!
The Scrambler 62, yes!
What a fun video. I definitely added doing a ride through the Rockies to my bucket list. Thanks guys!
Ive not ridden off road in 35 years but Im surprised they didn't do better. The tire upgrade helped Im sure.
I would have struggled on my old crf450x on some of those trails. Amazing you guys got scramblers down them!
You guys are my heroes. It's like taking the little shitsu puppy up a 11K peak, seen crazies do it.
It's so cool that you guys did this! Awesome video!
Awesome - Be great to see you guys with more experience and DESERT SLED VS. TRIUMPH XE or XC SCRAMBLERS
Thank you guys for this interesting test. Like the others comments here, I appreciate to see those bikes on mud, but I was really impressed when you go on the rocks. The reliability of the Ducati is unattended, I will never have bet on it.
Now I want to buy one !
Keep going !
LOVE this type of adventures!
Great video. Low front fenders and mud - I knew from experience that part wouldn't end well, but hey, it was an adventure! Reminded me of some good times back in the 70s with my brothers and our Hondas of that era.
You guys took 2 motorcycles and did the max ... great video !!!!
I’m impressed with this video! You guys really rode these things past their capabilities
I've prob watched this video 20 times. Its a oldie but goodie! You guys should pick two mid size adventure bikes and do the trip again a try to defeat that single track trail. It does happen to be one of your most vied episodes!
Great video... and much respect to Robert Spencer! It must have been a challenge shooting this around all the mishaps and adventures. Great job!
I am totally obsessed with the triumph bonneville and this only furthers it great video guys
Awesome ! Just Awesome !! Loved everything about your video reminds me of the sort of thing I did with my 74 CB550 , I just didn't have the knobbys . That was in 1974 and lots of "Woo-ing "
ace...i came 2nd in an off road event on my ducati scrambler!!..just put a lighter termi exhaust on...good to c u having fun...
Very cool rides. I had no idea Colorado was so beautiful.
I was all impressed these bikes could handle that until they fell apart LMAO
u guys are great, I really enjoy watching this video to show this 2 café scrambler to its extreme limits, and u guys show its with details from the videos.Millions thanks and god bless u 2!
That triumph sounds amazing without the muffler!
This was a great ride!! Super fun to watch!! Thanks
Hardcore. It's a THOROUGH review when parts break.
Loved the video! great.
Lol you’re right there are people out there who are laughing at you off roading. It’s pretty cool to see that you could do a lot of this though
Guys, pleaaasseee, do another video, this time with the new Triumph Street Scrambler and the Ducati Desert Sled. It would be so awesome! Sure looks like a lot of fun. 😬😃
With the mufflers off the Scrambler the noise nearly made this old Triumph rider cry...it sounded nearly exactly like my '64 Bonny (with mufflers ha ha.) That's what Brit twins used to sound like.
Such a good video, and no hipsters which was refreshing
As a dude who rides an MT 07, I have to say, these bikes looks sweet, I like the look of the Triumph Scrambler. It has that sweet, classic, industrial look.
Looks like such a blast!
XL sized adventure and balls! Thanks for the brilliant video...
You rocked it Gents!!
Those who are asking about a good beginner bike, I would recommend a Honda Grom, it's a 125cc that tops out around 60mph but a hell of a lot of fun! A used Grom is around $2,000 but it's totally worth it as the the Grom gets about 110 mpg!!
Well done. This has me thinking about a bike change. The challenges of this type of bike is almost as enticing as a fully capable bike.
+azdesertdog
A scrambler would surely be good fun for milk-runs and for tooling to work, on a chilly morning.
Truly a beautiful video guys! Thumps up!
I loved the honesty of the content
I would love to see the look on some of the other riders faces seeing these two motorcycles competing with them.
Awesome video !! Enjoyed watching it
This makes me want the Ducati scrambler even more.
WooW! Young Christoph Waltz on the Ducati ! :D
Thank you guys for this epic video, brave men!!
That black and gold helmet would totally suit my bike :)
You should redo this challenge with the new Triumph Street Scrambler and the Ducati Desert Sled.
I've pretty much been going through and watching all of your available content all dang day long. Lots of likes for ya today lol
