Not really. I’d like to see what his settings are to get 320 out of 160s ball speed. That is nowhere close to real world unless you are at high, hot courses.

Very motivating to see it can be done after years of swinging one way. Changing grip itself is difficult. That horrible feeling when you go strong and smother straight left.

Yes, I definitely remember the #262 days. I'm curious whether there had to be any "non-golf" components to achieve this speed? Is it all technique and mental or did he also have to make body changes? Stretching, diet, strength, etc.??

Done this myself. Started with my coach in November. I was a 5 handicap getting no better. I was bored. Wanted to improve. Never had great rotation. Worked so hard with vertical forces and now seeing the improvements. I was 98 mph with driver. I’m now 106 and rising. Improved rotation. Better strike. First time in ages I’m really looking forward to a new season. Totally get the intent point and not playing it safe.

Exactly my story. Was off 4, now out to 8 (recent family loss etc.), around 100 mph and feeling like I'm not likely to get below 4 (bit of work to do to get back there however). Big motivation in the form of a 13yo son (only 36kg and 150cm) who is now singles and hitting his driver 200m at around 85% fairways hit. He can beat me off the stick, but I can still outdrive him and I want to keep it that way for some time yet! At 55 I hope there is still hope. Great to hear of your success Mark. Cheers from Sydney - Dave

I've followed your channels since 2013. I avg 208 on the course (SS data) - due to mishits and the ball going errant (smother hook) - trees tend to shorten drives. When I go to the driving range I spend about 20 balls with my driver and swing out of my socks. It actually helps me keep distances up with all clubs especially as I age.

I've been watching your channel for years and you have absolutely transformed my game in that time. I've gone from mid 90s to low 80s in about the last 4 years. I've gone from hitting a MASSIVE slice to bringing it into a fade that misses right from time to time. Every time I watch a video of yours, I pull a club out and start swinging away in my living room (much to the chagrin of my wife and cats) to see if I can incorporate the new information into my swing. That being said, you blew my mind with the wall analogy. My hip sway is gone (been trying to fix that for months) and I feel so much more stable throughout the swing. Thank you for that, Mark. Keep going and thank you for your content.

I have been completely changing my golf swing looking to gain primarily consistent and more accuracy while having distance as a secondary goal. I was swinging extremely hard and still only getting 105mph club speed really giving it everything I have. Only when I found 3 videos, this being one of them, am I putting all the pieces together and realizing the problems. Everything in your "before" is what I was doing. I've increased my accuracy significantly, increased my club speed to 115, while hardly swinging the club (at least compared to previous). I'm excited to put it all together and get out on the course this year. This video seems to put the whole picture in perspective. Great job mate. :D

From 2005-2012 I could shoot under par on any given day. A severe back injury put a stop to all that and I lost all interest in golf. I tried to play a few times but I'd lost all feel of the club and my power was gone. It wasn't till you that I started to find all that again. I still bag a set of Mizuno mp-32's I bought brand new. This video makes me happy inside. I've been following this channel for years. It's been my stable go to for entertainment and a source of things to think about. All this time, the one splinter in my mind has been your distances hit Mark. I'm in my mid 40's and I comfortably sit in the late 160MPH 300yard drives. I'm not bragging. I've just wished for years that you would unshackle yourself a little and hit bloody thing harder. And today the day has finally come where I see the golf swing I've believed for years that you could do. The next step might be to slide that front leg out of the way a touch to slam some mighty 300+ bombs. It's a drug. Once you've gone 300 you can't go back. Love your work, mate! Now get yourself down under! There are hordes waiting to have a round with you.

I enjoy watching an established and knowledgeable person journey through changes that challenge "old" ways of thinking and embrace trial and error (using quantifiable data in your case). I know I've picked up several nuggets from your videos that have helped me in my attempts to get better, specifically since early 2020. I can proudly say, with the help of one lesson (iron striking/compressing the ball) and committing to getting better (well, as much as a weekend hacker can), I have seen big distance gains across my bag--at least 2 clubs with irons and ~30 yards in performance average with the driver (according to Shot Scope--244 yds in 2020, longest 278 yds, pre-lesson, vs. 273 yds as of today, longest of 330 yds). Even better, I finally broke 90 last year and have 2 rounds of 86 under my belt this season! This is huge for me!!! I can't count how many times you've recommended getting lessons, but I'm happy I finally listened! Cheers Mark 🍻

Mark this is excellent content. As a ‘safe’ scratch golfer growing up with the end of persimmon and balata in the 90s hitting fairways was my skill. Distance, not so much. As I’m now mid 40s I want to unlock my potential and gain yards. Working on my body I’ve lost 6 stone in weight and with a physio/trainer ensure I’m injury free and mobile and improving swing mechanics with Damian Taylor. I’m working on exactly the same as you to unlock that distance puzzle. Makes so much sense so anyone else watching … Mark is on the money here. I’m a 150 ball speed wafter and working on 160 and then 165 as my goal for next summer. The ‘intent’ you emphasis … is key. Thanks Mark. Fantastic content. 🎉

Inspiring. I've started messing around with my son doing some speed training stuff. Just getting started and I've gotten up to 102 SS. The great thing is being able to dial it back into that controllable swing on the course and getting a solid 8-10yds. deeper on a lot of holes. Already have seen it on several par 5's last month. My old "max" is my new average and my new average is getting that 1.5 smash sending it out to 250 carry range. I'll check out more videos. My goal is to crack into the 150+ ballspeeds and stay there. Get my new max to be my new "average" swing by next spring.

Excellent. Someone finally explained why I’ve gained 30 yards to my drive. I am usually happy with a 260 drive. So I adjusted a few things that you mentioned on vacation and hit a session on the driving range, Felt solid. I forget my launch monitor at home. So no idea I gained distance. Step up to a par 4 with water at 300 about 70 odd yards from green. Blind tee shot over a hill. I’m expecting my ball 260-270 roll out and I’m in the water. So now I’ve got to get to the launch monitor and figure things out.

Honestly I have seen this because I went to a facility where it had a Toptracer bay, but not using the standard balls that come with it. What i noticed is that the harder I tried to over swing, i actually started to (mostly) hit the ball straighter than i ever have when I am just trying to swing within myself. i was getting up to 167 ball speed with driver and carrying it easy 290+ and it would easily hit a 60-65 yards window that I block practice for. Great vid Mark. Congrats on the 320. 😁
Had a recent lesson on the same thing with posting on my left leg. With my irons it felt at impact that I was flipping my hands but the trackman numbers showed that I was actually 1.2° down and was hitting it 8yards further than before I made those changes.
Shows how important that measuring is to prove that you are doing the right things but that also feel is not real.

Congratulations Mark! Years of watching your videos I developed a similar slide across swing with driver which helped me loads with hitting target and not blocking shots. With your most recent videos I have made a slight adjustment to focus more on rotation and straightening left leg and trying to take off and while I am not yet measuring to the level you are I have been hitting longer drives on the range and course.
More practice and a lesson needed. Thanks for the insightful videos and information

Good video Mark. Love the "intent" part of the process. Used to be close to 120 mph when I was younger man. Now at 65 I am still swinging 105-108 but maybe posting up earlier and letting it rip with less concern about fairways may just be what I need to get to 110 and hit it 290-300 vs 275-280. Interestingly after 40 years of overlap grip I went back to interlock this spring. It causes my left hand to naturally be weaker. Maybe I will try and make my left hand a little stronger-like it was when I overlapped, and see what happens. FYI-first time in 15 years I went to Srixon irons(ZX7's) with Steelfiber 110's and hitting the ball little farther but little flatter window than I am used to. Getting used to the way my ball acts when landing on greens in NE USA(Long Island-Bent or Poa greens). Makes hitting 3/4 shots harder to judge as they fly flatter and with little less spin. LOVE your channel!!

Having played this game since 1957 and marveling at the "new" technology, it is obvious you are on to something very old. When I was your age we used the term "hitting into a firm left side". We didn't have launch monitors, graphite shafts and 460cc drivers. We used wound balls that refused to go straight even for the best golfers. We used steel shafts and small persimmon heads. Nobody, not even Jack hit it 320...at least not very often. I played many tournaments with Johnny Miller and even he didn't hit it 300 ... but his technique was great. I would say the only thing you can do now to add clubhead speed is to "crack the whip". Anyone who has ever snapped a towel in the locker room knows this simple move can add a tremendous amount of speed to your swing. Your strong grip is spot on. Give "cracking the whip" a try. It's done when your hands are past the ball and if you do it correctly the head of the clubhead speeds up like you won't believe. Great video. I can see another 20 yards once you get this move incorporated into your swing.

Love the enthusiasm! Really interesting, I’m going through this exact thing at the moment. I had an old school teacher, who preferred particular teachings (which has been great for so many factors) but I wasn’t seeing much gain or game improvement, so decided to see a different coach who had this approach. In just one lesson they had completely changed my idea of how to swing the club and I’ve never played so well since. Balls going further, more confidence, easier feeling swing and hitting greens in regulation and most importantly beating my mates 😂 Thanks Mark, great video.

Great content as always Mr Crossfield , plus possibly the best advice on YT which starts at 10.20 you need to get it wrong ( the only way to get better is doing it wrong enough times to work out where better is ).. I can't tell you how much my game improved once I embraced that concept many moons ago , funny thing is we are told all our lives to keep trying . and when we fail, try try again , funny that !

Regarding intent. I always have the mindset be agressive, If I hit it in the next fairway so be it I have confidence to hit the next shot on the green. It doesn't always work out like that but I play better overall being fearless.

One of my fav vids Mark, currently struggling with said distance off the tee. Averaging 200-210 max with 5 wood, Driver be lucky to get to that. Holding back my game although only been playing 5 months. No facilities in my area (West Suffolk/Norfolk/Cambs) allow driver to be hit at the range so hit a bit of a brick wall and seem to be accepting hitting fairways but leaving myself a 5 iron in.

10:19 - This is huge. As a good-ish amateur, I think a trait that higher-level players share compared to other amateurs is that ability to swing with the "wrong" feeling (but correct technique) for long enough to groove it in and make it feel "correct." It's unpleasant to un-groove bad habits because the wrong way feels right, but it's well worth the bad feeling to do it correctly.

In the 2022 US Open words of Brandle Chamblee...I want to hit it far and be "sneaky straight" lol...at 41 years old, I lost about 10 mph of swing speed BUT with better golf balls and clubs, its almost a wash from 15-20 years ago...love it...long time viewer Mark, I marked you needed to be at least 115 to get to the 320...but you did it with 114 wonderful strike on the upswing..., when I used to play and practice on course I would have my normal ball off the tee and my "scramble" swing...and I was.always amazed that my scramble swing only hit. Few less fwys but was often 30 yards longer...just gotta be sneaky straight!

Few of us have any place to go where we'd have affordable access to a force plate and a Foresight. But a lot can be accomplished cheaply with a PRGR launch monitor. You can use it to monitor swing speed even with a practice swing. You can film your swing or use a LiveView camera. You can overtrain pushing your limits.
It seems like the key to focus on is driving the ball of your left foot into the ground as early as you can on the downswing. This will post your leg up and keep your hips from just sliding. The idea that you can increase power with your left leg is a bit of a revelation for me. Just hitting into a firm but passive left side with your right side is not enough, you have to use your left leg to generate greater vertical force before impact. The PRGR can tell you if you're getting it right.
Some drills and feels from Mr. 320 would be great for those of use just scuffling along.
Edit: Just found the Salted Smart Golf Insoles on line. Anyone have these?
