Kerbal Space Program - Career Mode Speedrun

- Starting a new Career mode save on Normal difficulty, I recover science from all five of Jool's moons in 290 days.
Inspired by a mission from @luigilain5692 completing the Jool 5 in 383 days. Link here: forum.kerbalsp...
I mostly followed his mission plan. The main optimization was sacrificing time spent within the Jool system (ion powered transfer stages and some landings to reduce mass) for a much faster trip to Jool and a slightly faster trip from Jool to Kerbin.
Final time is 290 days and 2 hours, though this could be much improved with better transfers between Jool's moons. The Pol segment especially was a big bottleneck as I had to wait multiple orbits for a good transfer window. I think 250 days is possible, but 200 days would require a pretty big change to the strategy.

Those poor kerbals being decelerated from 35 km/s to 0 in one minute.
honestly it's even funnier than that, the kerbals are stuck in the jool system
don't worry, a rescue mission is coming (but the space program blew all its funds on the outbound vehicle so they need to hang out for a while)
Absolutely insane aero breaking on both legs of the trip. I’ve wondered for a while if there was a speed run category based on efficiency of in game time. Simply splendid job!
I don't think it's an actual category, I just saw someone else's version of this mission and wanted to try it out.
@@proxima_fish who was it?

The video description has a link!
this is some macollo shit, well done
This is such an impressive mission, pretty amazing.
That is a very impressive machine!
I'd love to see more about that little Laythe ascender! :)
It's just a rocket chair in a fairing, and I gave it just enough fuel to reach Laythe orbit. Not too complicated. The Laythe lander in my somewhat recent low mass Jool-5 mission is a lot more interesting. I was optimizing for ease of use as much as mass here, since I knew I would set the record by a pretty big margin.
How odd it is to see some semi-normal looking rockets on this channel, even if it's just for the early career
I think my magic ladder Eve mission looked pretty normal until the fairing detached
jool 5 go nyoom

Really cool video. Guessing you didn't go for speedrun in terms of total missions cause bradley whistance squeezed every last drop out of that one :D
2 launches is absolutely not beatable, unless you want to take a creative definition of what counts as a launch. (I'm thinking science rover or something). Either way, not really something I want to do.
nice
First mission could have been suborbital with two wings radially attatched to the CM, pushing the center of pressure to the top of the CM, and SRBs on the bottom, using each other for staging,
That would reduce the total time by maybe 10 minutes out of a 290 day run. I didn't feel like it was significant enough to bother.
@@proxima_fish a 120 boost in science seems pretty significant but ok
@@GrilledCheeseSandwichReal It's not significant when I can just launch an orbital mission immediately after the first one, as I end up getting all that science anyway.
