Kerbal Space Program - 51 ton Eve SSTO
Single stage from Kerbin's surface, to Eve's surface, and back to Kerbin. Mass on the runway is 51.7 tons.
As far as I know, this is the lightest such craft that doesn't use magic wings. Previous record was 57.4 tons by nonRO-tesseract. A bit of lateral thinking here - this can go down to sea level, refuel, and then climb a mountain before refueling again. So technically this can be a sea level Eve SSTO as well.
With the xenon drained this plane becomes pretty hard to control so I just did a water landing. I am impressed at the capabilities of the KSC recovery crew.
Not all gravity assists and ion maneuvers are shown in this video because there were a lot of them and it would be boring.

KSP - Probe to orbit in 462 kg
Переглядів 4,6 тис.Місяць тому
I flew this mission a while ago and never got around to making a video. Recently I remembered this, improved the design a bit, and put this together. This craft made it to orbit on my first try with a good amount of margin, so there's absolutely room for improvement. Iterating on this design can probably go as low as 425 kg with a good ascent profile. The engine ignition with the propeller stil...

First day of Nova Drift 1.0 beta. Probably not an optimal strategy by any means but it's really consistently able to defeat the final boss, so maybe there's a better chance to reset for good waves. My pace going into wave 200 felt pretty good, as did the boss fight. I don't expect this record to stand for super long.
Kerbal Space Program - The Magic Ladder (to Eve and back)
Переглядів 17 тис.6 місяців тому
A kerbal on a ladder has its mass and drag ignored by the parent craft, which is obviously very powerful for mass optimization. This craft can do an Eve return in under 4 tons. Mass without kerbal and without cargo is 3996 kg; mass with cargo but without pilot is 4061 kg. This is very similar to, but distinct from, the ladder kraken drive. The only force exerted on the lander is from propellers...

Landing a kerbal on every solid surface in KSP, and returning him safely home, with a craft comparable to a single Thumper booster. Mass with cargo and without kerbal is 7673 kg. About a year ago, I uploaded a 14.4 ton grand tour. I thought it was pretty good, but a couple months later Ultimate Steve knocked a few tons off the launch mass. We decided to work together to see how small a Grand To...

A 5.2 ton technically-a-spaceplane lands our Kerbal on all five of Jool's moons and returns safely to Kerbin. The craft's mass on the runway is 5208 kg without pilot, so the total mass including the kerbal is 5253 kg. This is a pretty big improvement over the 5.8 ton previous record. Most of it is in the Laythe and Tylo landers, which were both significantly redesigned. I had an entire tank of ...

Different build this time! This build used to be meta for a different category and a different version, in which I held the world record of 7:15. In that old version, siege had a really powerful interaction with charged shot that let you fire way more quickly than you should. Siege got nerfed since then but the build is still very strong. Sub 8 might be possible but would require great luck wit...

Better run than last time. Same RR hullbreaker strategy because it's durable and all the boss fights after wave 20 are super easy. It's really slow in the early game however, if I get a lucky first few waves I could potentially get sub 10.

Do not pay attention to the Kerbin Environmental Protection Agency report. All nuclear materials in this mission were disposed of in a safe manner. Kerbal Space Program - 5 tons to Eve and Moho
Переглядів 1,1 тис.Рік тому
I realized that the Eve lander in my previous video was lighter than the Tylo lander in my 4.6 tons Tylo mission, so naturally I wondered if I could do an Eve return in under 5 tons. The Eve lander was physically larger and thus required more fairing mass, but it wasn't that much more. I then packed on xenon until I was just under 5 tons, and found that it was enough to do a Moho landing and re...

    • @proxima_fish

The 250 kg ion engine is almost the mass of my entire upper stage (300 kg), and since it doesn't have gimbal I'll need a 50 kg reaction wheel. So it's already just as heavy, before adding the probe core, power generation, batteries, fuel, etc. The propeller is optimized for static thrust so it will barely give me any horizontal velocity.
