You can't go wrong with Ms. James. And it's never too late to go down the rabbit hole. Such an immense talent. She actually wanted to be a Country singer when she was growing up.
Britt!!!! If you have not heard Etta James sing "At Last" you have not experienced Soul Music. Grown white men are moved to tears with this incredible song. You will need to pick your self up off the floor after hearing it for the first time. Trust me and everyone else who has mentioned it.
Great song, and Etta definitely sings the hell out of it, an unquestionable masterpiece. If you will entertain a cover version, you might enjoy Stevie Nicks rendition. I think she’s pays proper respect to Etta’s original.
Etta James was a great singer who performed in various genres, including blues, R&B, soul, rock & roll, jazz & gospel in the 50's-80's. She had an amazing powerful voice. She had so many hits such as "At Last", "Stormy Weather", "The Wallflower", "Tell Mama", "Something's Got A Hold On Me", "If I Can't Have You", "Spoonful", "All I Could Do Was Cry", "My Dearest Darling", "A Sunday Kind Of Love", "Fool That I Am", "Don't Cry Baby", "Losers Weepers", "I Found A Love" etc.
You need to check out Beth Hart and Joe Bonamassa doing their rendition of this classic. Beth is a 4 time Jazz artist of the year winner. Talk about storytelling! It is fabulous.
Etta James not only could sing, but she knew what to sing. I love that you feature so many of the great female artists of the mid to late 20th century. I feel so fortunate to have grown up in an era in which all I had to do was turn on the radio and sounds like this came out. You should sample a little Sarah Vaughn.
Etta James was the first Lady of Rock and Roll. She came out in the 50s. Beyonce played her in the movie Cadillac Records and covered this classic. Etta also did the song At Last, it too is a classic.
Please do the live version of this if only for yourself. Miss Etta played that audience like a violin. Half the time she didn't even use her microphone she just belted it out. She also had a wicked sense of humor. Love, love, love this woman. "At Last", was another favorite of mine by Miss Etta James. Thanks for the time and thoughts you share. Peace✌
Legendary Etta James RIP. To be honest it was Angelina cover this and “Something’s Got a Hold on Me” that introduced and had me going back and experiencing this Awesome Lady’s work. Thanks for this reaction 🤠
You should know more about Etta James, but she was a little before your time. What a voice and no auto tune, not sure they even had reverb back then LOL Love to see you add some of these old classics, we all could use the education.
Etta James the Queen of the Blues, another one of the greats gone to soon. Why do we lose so many iconic performers to drug and alcohol abuse? So sad when you think of all the amazing artists we have lost. Thx Britt.
This song was the inspiration for Chris Stapleton's arrangement of Tennessee Whiskey, which was originally recorded in 1981 in a very tradtional 4/4 country arranmement. Brilliant!
This is an amazing studio rendition of this song, but you really should watch her perform this in the live performance at Montreux, 1975. It will blow your socks off!!
ALL I COULD DO IS CRY, SUNDAY KIND OF LOVE, & FOOL RHAT I AM, are just the best of what Etta James can bring to life with her voice. She has a way of connecting with the essence of a song that pierces the soul. Over and over. Great singer. Enjoy
I would love, love, love to see you take a DEEP dive into this era of music. So much good music including doo wop and Motown. Please continue to do these fabulous reactions. ❤
I saw Etta James in concert just a few years before she passed. She had obviously aged quite a bit but then she opened her mouth and sang! It just seemed totally effortless for her. It was like singing came to her as easily as talking.
My favorite blues hit that Etta James sings is "Tell Mama" POWERFUL.. so powerful that the song was covered by Janis Joplin which also became a big hit for Janis! If you like Etta James' Blues, you should also react to KoKo Taylor, another GREAT BLUES singer who sings with power! :) I strongly recommend you react to KoKo Taylor's big blues hit "i'm a Woman" and experience that power for yourself :)
The world and his wife have covered this song . . . but Etta and those backing singers are just delicious! if you're looking for another rabbit hole, try Sister Rosetta Tharpe. ❤❤❤
This is to be watched in a life version. Her facial expressions are great. When my 5 year old daughter watched her for the first time, she was totally mesmerized and mimicking Etta's expressions. Like she felt every bit of pain and despair.
Such amazing artists back in the day, such powerful stories. Yes, you listened to Angelina Jordan sing this song, she is introducing the sounds of the 40's, 50's, 60's and 70's to the new generations. I guess encouraging young people, like yourself, to look back at the original artists - there are so many to look into, explore the past and feel the passion...
Hey Britt... I see you did indeed react to Angelina's cover (not my fave of hers) of this gorgeous song... and you also reacted to it with Beth Hart and Joe Bonamassa.. now that cover I adore.. and Beth is one of the best blues singers of our time and Joe the king of Blues guitar. Etta singing this song.. is my ALL TIME FAVE song.... ever!!! I loved that you loved it. I know the subject matter is a bit dated.. but that takes nothing away from Etta's pure magical artistry!!!! 🤩😍 I do also love Holly Miranda - I'd Rather Go Blind (Etta James Cover) (@Super Bock Super Rock 2010) ... it's sooooo good.. so natural.. and she makes it her own.. I can't get enough of it for real!!!🥰 lol The vid quality is not great.. but it's live and soooo good! I do agree with you... I"d rather not go blind for any one.. ever.😅 Times were different back then.. and well.. it is what it is. Etta's delivery of the song though..... pure perfection!!! 😙
A good movie is Cadillac Records, where Beyonce plays Etta James. Also the film depicts Muddy Waters, Little Walter, Howlin Wolf and others, and how black artists were financially exploited. Try Little Walter's "My Babe," and Howlin Wolf's "Smokestack Lightning."
Britt i'm amazed you got the studio recording rather the LIVE...since you love LIVE! Because the LIVE is better this time...which is rare! You often get the just okay LIVE but you missed a great one here.
Please react to Etta James and Dr John doing this live! Their chemistry is just…. Wow!! As a 35 year old, I was lucky enough to have this music playing in my house as a child. Etta, Luther, Sinatra, Dr John, and many more were a staple in my household. ❤
Etta James is one of my all-time favorite female singers. Yes, AJ sang it on the blue sofa. I knew the words so not a problem. Etta articulates with perfection...thus, still my favorite version.
Hello Britt you look so awesome today love the song another great reaction by you again like always thank you so much for sharing your video with us love it Britt.🤗👍
Britt, Ms. James is a legend in soul/blues music and you're correct that Angelina covered this song. Etta was a big inspiration to her and many many more! If you watched the movie Cadillac Records Bejonce sang a great rendition of this! thanks so much!
Etta James had some personal struggles that affected her career over the years but was considered a bridge between the blues and rock and is identified as a major influence by artists from Christina Aguilera to the Rolling Stones to Beth Hart to Amy Winehouse. Try "Something's Got a Hold On Me", "At Last", "Tell Mama", and "A Sunday Kind Of Love".
When I hear Etta sing this song, I believe her, that it happened to her, her pain is real. When I hear others sing this song, they sound like they're trying to imitate Etta and her pain.
Chris didn't write Tennessee Whiskey. It was written by Dean Dillon and Linda Hargrove. It was originally recorded by American country music artist David Allan Coe for his album of the same name Tennessee Whiskey, whose version peaked at number 77 on the Billboard Hot Country Singles chart in 1981.
Fleetwood Mac had a song (pre Stevie Nicks) with lyrics something like this: If I could sing like Paul McCartney, get funky like Etta James, I'd never change.
While I always have respect for original versions, in my opinion there are two covers that outshine Miss Etta’s version. First would be Beyoncé from the movie soundtrack, and my favorite by Beth Hart an Joe Bonomasa. ♥️✌🏼😎
It's just a classic song. I first heard it when Rachel Crow sang it on the X Factor. If you haven't heard that version you should check it out. Imagine a girl 13 or 14 years old singing like Etta James.
Etta James is a legend!!! One of many powerhouse female blues / jazz songstresses. You need to dig deep into her catalog as well as Nina Simone, Sarah Vaughan, Billie Holliday and others who moved your soul with their voices
You need to React to Morgan James! She has many covers (her Aretha Franklin Series is killer) or her first Album ""Morgan James Live, a celebration of Nina Simone". However, her Original Music brings you back to 60s/70s Motown. I'd suggest the song "Ranson" as a start.
To anyone who recognizes how good this is, I recommend listening to Etta doing "At Last" because her original album recording is, I believe, the perfect combination a voice, song and recording.
You should go down the Nina Simone rabbit hole, too. Etta is pure magic.
You can't go wrong with Ms. James. And it's never too late to go down the rabbit hole. Such an immense talent. She actually wanted to be a Country singer when she was growing up.
A truly classic song performed by a legendary singer. You can feel her emotions coming through in a strong manner.
Britt!!!! If you have not heard Etta James sing "At Last" you have not experienced Soul Music. Grown white men are moved to tears with this incredible song. You will need to pick your self up off the floor after hearing it for the first time. Trust me and everyone else who has mentioned it.
LOVE LOVE LOVE that song!
Great song, and Etta definitely sings the hell out of it, an unquestionable masterpiece. If you will entertain a cover version, you might enjoy Stevie Nicks rendition. I think she’s pays proper respect to Etta’s original.
Another hit recorded in Muscle Shoals, Alabama's Fame Recording Studio
I think muscle shoals is just about a sacred place.
The best and bad thing about Etta James is that she went through it. And you can feel it when she sings.
You need to check her live performance of this song at Montreux 1975

You have got to hear Ettas "All I Could Do Was Cry"
Her voice and her ability to deliver this song is out of this world. She's is the best!!!
You need to check out Beth Hart and Joe Bonamassa doing their rendition of this classic. Beth is a 4 time Jazz artist of the year winner. Talk about storytelling! It is fabulous.
Beth & Joe doing this song, Live . . . . is AMAZING!! After listening to it, it WILL be on your playlist!
Their version is incredible.
one o my favorite songs no cap
Yet another masterpiece out of the FAME studios in Muscle Shoals, Alabama.
Etta James looks like my grandmother whenb she was younger. Just gorgeous.
Gen Z: "What's a radio?" 🙂
Etta sang so awesome, and I could relate to her pain. She had a voice that gave me chills. Such talent!!! ❤❤❤

You absolutely have to hear Beth Hart and Joe Bonamassa's cover of id rather Go Blind
You should know more about Etta James, but she was a little before your time. What a voice and no auto tune, not sure they even had reverb back then LOL
Love to see you add some of these old classics, we all could use the education.
The LEGENDARY Iconic Ms Etta James
A great Etta James song that you hear at weddings a lot is “At Last”
Etta James the Queen of the Blues, another one of the greats gone to soon. Why do we lose so many iconic performers to drug and alcohol abuse? So sad when you think of all the amazing artists we have lost. Thx Britt.
you have to hear Beth Hart and Joe Bonomassas version it even blows this away imho
Her live in Montreux.... One hell of a Performance
The peanut gallery! Oh, that's a perfect way to describe the background vocals in a lot of the songs from this era.
One of my all time favorite voices. The best version of any song she sang is always her version. No one is even close.
ALL I COULD DO IS CRY,
SUNDAY KIND OF LOVE,
& FOOL RHAT I AM,
are just the best of what Etta James can bring to life with her voice. She has a way of connecting with the essence of a song that pierces the soul. Over and over. Great singer. Enjoy
Britt, of you haven't rected to it yet, Midnight Train to Georgia is another beautiful love song
great music. You also might want to give Peggy Lee a shot, Jazz and Blues from early 1940s to end of 20th Century
I would love, love, love to see you take a DEEP dive into this era of music.
So much good music including doo wop and Motown.
Please continue to do these fabulous reactions. ❤
Excellent, excellent. The live at Montreux version is a killer! It will knock your socks off!
I saw Etta James in concert just a few years before she passed. She had obviously aged quite a bit but then she opened her mouth and sang! It just seemed totally effortless for her. It was like singing came to her as easily as talking.

YES! from the album HEART OF A WOMAN
“A Sunday kind of love “and “At last” of Etta James are couple great ones too and Betty Wright’s” no pain no gain’ and “after the rain”
This is to be watched in a life version. Her facial expressions are great. When my 5 year old daughter watched her for the first time, she was totally mesmerized and mimicking Etta's expressions. Like she felt every bit of pain and despair.
I absolutely love Etta James 💯 🔥
Another good tune by her, "Leap of Faith". At Last is probably her most known tune
Unbelievably soulful ❤️🔥
We're listening to her music not interested in what her past keep it to ur self.here for this great🎉🎉 voice Stella performance
Now re-listen to the opening notes of Chris Stapleton's version of Tennessee Whiskey and see how much she influenced him... 😊
Yes!! He sampled the rhythm of this song for his cover of Tennessee Whiskey originally done by George Jones.
@@mikem957 I think it was originally David Allan Coe, but I may be wrong...
Such amazing artists back in the day, such powerful stories. Angelina Jordan covered this song perfectly ❤
Etta is in my heart as well.
It doesn’t get much better than Etta James❤️
Etta james said her favorite cover of this song is the one by Rod Stewart
The good thing about finding Etta James at your age is now you really appreciate how good she was.
oh the voice of this woman, she has one of the best voice ever!
Britt i'm amazed you got the studio recording rather the LIVE...since you love LIVE! Because the LIVE is better this time...which is rare! You often get the just okay LIVE but you missed a great one here.
Beautiful lady and a great song. I personally would be more likely to blind him than rather go blind myself 🤫😉😂
More Ella Fitzgerald, Billie Holliday even some modern ones like Beth Hart.
Please react to Etta James and Dr John doing this live! Their chemistry is just…. Wow!! As a 35 year old, I was lucky enough to have this music playing in my house as a child. Etta, Luther, Sinatra, Dr John, and many more were a staple in my household. ❤
Great old music
Best of Etta James is the CD in my car right now. So good, so good.
I LOVE Cadillac records and seeing behind that songs meaning. 😊
Etta James is one of my all-time favorite female singers. Yes, AJ sang it on the blue sofa. I knew the words so not a problem. Etta articulates with perfection...thus, still my favorite version.
Pure classic music, love Etta James
Hello Britt you look so awesome today love the song another great reaction by you again like always thank you so much for sharing your video with us love it Britt.🤗👍
Watch the movie Cadillac Records, Beyonce played Etta James and covered this song and nailed it.
Britt, Ms. James is a legend in soul/blues music and you're correct that Angelina covered this song. Etta was a big inspiration to her and many many more! If you watched the movie Cadillac Records Bejonce sang a great rendition of this! thanks so much!

Listen to Christine (Perfect) McVie and Chicken Shack covering this. Different vibe....
Rod Stewart also covered it.
Yeah, as you delve into this era of music, you will find too many incredible artists to mention. Nice journey.
This is maybe my favorite Etta track. The lyrics are too good and her voice. Thanks for this one 😊
Fabulous talent!
At 78, I grew up on jazz and rhythm and blues. I can tell you she did Etta justice, as no other has. Just consider her age!
You need to bump her rendition of the Staple Singers CLASSIC “Respect Yourself” live!
There is a movie called "Cadillac Records" where Beyonce plays the role of Etta. Worth seeing and hearing Beyonce also singing this song.
❤MISS ETTA❤
There's a sensational live version of this from the Montreux jazz festival, early eighties I think
Chris Stapleton Tennessee Whiskey melody is almost note for note this song I would rather go blind.
Thank you for noticing this. I've been telling people this ever since i put it together.
❤❤❤❤❤❤more
Also you can hear the influence she had on Chris Stapleton’s Tennessee Whiskey.
Another classic from Etta you might enjoy is "At Last," which was her highest charting single on the R&B charts and became her signature song.
Fleetwood Mac had a song (pre Stevie Nicks) with lyrics something like this: If I could sing like Paul McCartney, get funky like Etta James, I'd never change.
Another 🔥 reaction
Etta was brilliant but her heroin addiction destroyed her career. Her classic At Last became a standard at weddings for decades.
There's a really good movie about Chess Records early years, called 'Cadillac Records' (2008). Beyonce plays Etta James in it. Worth checking out.
🙏🏽🙏🏽🔥🔥
While I always have respect for original versions, in my opinion there are two covers that outshine Miss Etta’s version. First would be Beyoncé from the movie soundtrack, and my favorite by Beth Hart an Joe Bonomasa.

I actually really enjoy the Beyonce version from the movie Cadillac Records. Check that one out too!
Etta .. the one and only.. original.. I’d rather go blind is her song!!! Always… but Beth Hart.. now a treat to the ears
Wonderful. There's a great Rod Stewart cover of this too.
You should watch the video with Miss Etta James and Dr John doing this sone. A-MAZING!

listen to the bass line and lead you will get a feeling you're hearing "tennessee whiskey" Chris Stapleton
You need to react to the movie Cadillac records. Beyonce did a great job portraying lady Etta
I wish you did the live version amazing please do lt
♥♥♥♥♥ Great reaction, Britt 🙂
Now a blues standard, it is one of the best blues songs ever
