This was the song my sister chose for the first dance with her husband at their wedding. I had the album. She "borrowed" it. It's almost coming up on 25 years and I still have yet to see that album. 😐
But thank God if you still got your sister,as a man from a family of 10 children, things are meaningless as your siblings start to go see mom and dad in heaven
This is truly a classic! From Etta's heartfelt vocals to the beautiful musical arrangement, this was superbly done!! Love ya'll's reaction and comments too!
Etta James is part of a group of tremendous female songstresses-Dinah Washington, Judy Garland, Ella Fitzgerald, Sarah Vaughan, Rosemary Clooney, Ernestine Anderson, Carmen McRae, Keeley Smith among many others-who were masters (mistresses?) of lyric interpretation and were able to find and express the meaning of every song they sang.
I saw Etta James live about 30yrs ago. It was the 25th Anniversary of the lowrider club The Dukes out of 38th street and Cental , Ms James was one of the greatest. Got a chance to meet her, it was cool.
Etta james is one of those legendary blue singers that you accept all of who she was it was part of the package. And she seemed like an artist who stood up for herself in the business the legendary blue singer etta james thumbs up.
Aww one of my FAV!!!💯❤️💯 My baby sister sang this when our eldest sister passed away... Forever in our hearts ❤🫂❤️ Such a beautiful song🥹 LOVE IT!!! LOVE ETTA!!! Thankyou🥰
Ah yes, this song is MAJESTIC! This was a case where the music and the voice were so in sync and perfect that no matter who tries to cover this song will always always pale in comparison.
My mom and stepdad played this as thier first dance for their wedding. Ive also watched them dance to it in the grocery storw and hardware store.....basically anywhere they hear it! 💜
Etta James is the real deal. You have to. Have to listen to these great songs from her catalog. ALL I COULD DO IS CRY, A SUNDAY KIND OF LOVE, SPOONFUL, & FOOL THAT I AM. You want her best songs in her best voice. Here they are. Asia will be hard pressed not to sing these to you, BJ. Enjoy
This was my wife and my song. We would slow dance every time, in the kitchen, lounge room, and enjoy each other. I lost my wife in May 2024, and i miss her so much 😢 RIP beautiful 🙏🏼😍 Love you forever
The first time I heard this song I was hooked. She captures the heart. She feels it and makes you feel it too. In this way she reminds me of Patsy Cline. Totally different styles but soooo beautiful and captivating.
For met, it's everything about her-- her depth of feeling, her voice, her phrasing, her soulfuness...everything. For me-- again-- there's never been anyone better. Etta James, Aretha, Ella Fitzgerald, Nina Simone, Bonnie Raitt, Phoebe Snow...they, and other all-time, nobody's ever done it better, greats are just out there all by themselves in an eternal shrine (there is, of course, one for male singers as well, with Ray Charles, Michael Jackson, Frank Sinatra, Stevie Wonder, Luther, James Ingram and some others). We all have our own lists, but any list that doesn't include Etta James is bogus, to me.
My folks loved this song and I've loved it since I was little. Etta James is an icon! This also turned me on to Beth and Joe. One great thing leads to many more.
Etta James, for a long time I would occasionally see a Cadillac commercial and a few bars and lyrics were in the background of this song. Finally I heard the full song. Loved it ! She was well respected in the Jazz Community. I have become a Jazz enthusiast. Once you Jazz you never go back. Steely Dan - Peg, Babylon Sisters, Kid Charlemagne, FM(No Static), Show Biz Kids, Only a Fool Would Say That, I Got the News.
Here I am up at 12:30 in the morning on a Sunday night, just flipping through my phone. And then.....that voice (Etta James) AT LAST COMES INTO my living room. I listen......and am taken back to the first kiss from my Husband (Labor Day weekend, 1970). Now 53 years later.....that song still brings me the same joy of that kiss. Thank you
At Last" is a song written by Mack Gordon and Harry Warren for the musical film Sun Valley Serenade (1941). Glenn Miller and his orchestra recorded the tune several times, with a 1942 version reaching number two on the US Billboard pop music chart.
This song was released in November of 1960 and was immediately huge. It became an extremely popular song at weddings. It was also a huge “crossover” hit because it was equally popular with black and white Americans, and this was during the civil rights struggles. Even more impressive is that Etta was only 22.
small (high) is the violin medium(tenor) is the cello and large is the upright bass (bass) is on the floor. other instruments come in families too, soprano, alto, tenor and bass saxophones, Piccolo, g Flute alto flute and bass flute, clarinet, alto clarinet, bass clarinet etc
Asia and BJ, This song was written by Mack Gordon. Harry Warren for 1941 movie "SUN VALLEY SERENADE". 1942 hit the charts at number two on the Billboard charts. This rendition came along in 1960,other versions include Lou Rawls, Austin Brown ( of Home Free ), Nat 'King 'Cole and Beyonce just to name a few.
I really enjoy you two...The song you may have heard was "Sunday kind of Love":...a slow dance masterpiece. I have had that album probably 50 years and it is still a favorite of mine. Pls dance to it on your next anniversary. You will feel it!
My mom has a record that i listened to over and over it had this song and Otis Redding Sitting on the dock of the bay and i fell in love with both songs.
MORE MOTOWN....TAMMY TERRELL AND MARVIN GAYE, SMOKEY, TEMPTATIONS "MY GIRL" , MARY WELLS "MY GUY", AND TONS OF GREAT MUSIC!!! I WAS BORN IN THE MOTOR CITY, MY PARENTS WENT TO CLUBS AND SAW MANY FAMOUS ACTS WHO WERE JUST STARTING OUT!!😍😍😍❤❤👍
Nobody did it like Etta! I really don't believe she had a bad song, and I love each and every song I've ever heard her sing. Something's Got a Hold on Me is one of my favorites by her, followed by this one.
She jammed with the Grateful Dead 12-31-82....She's amazing....NEVER get tired of listening to her...my personal favorite is "All I Could Do Is Cry" & "I'd Rather Go Blind". Thought it odd that the Obama's wanted Beyonce to sing "At Last" but not Etta who was alive at the time
This song is one of those classics that just command attention. It has this beautiful , sexy , dreamy quality to it . I can't claim to know her catalog of music well but this one is amazing.
I again implore y'all to look for vids about Muscle Shoals, the town in AL where a ton of the best music of the last century was made. First one, then another studio made miracles happen.
This is probably my favorite song of all time. Whenever I hear it i'm reminded of the movie Pleasantville with Reese Witherspoon and Toby Maguire. This song features heavily in the movie. The funny thing is that the movie takes place in the 1950's and this song didn't come out till the mid 60's I just love continuity issues in films.
Here's a group you never of called The Flirtations, the song "Nothin but a heartache." This group, is on the same page as the Supremes! This song came out in the late 60's, never got the recognition it deserves here in america. It was big hit in the U.K. please everyone google this song and tell me if I'm lying!
Etta James was a great singer who performed in various genres, including blues, R&B, soul, rock & roll, jazz & gospel in the 50's-80's. She had an amazing powerful voice. She had so many hits such as "I'd Rather Go Blind", "The Wallflower", "Tell Mama", "Something's Got A Hold On Me", "If I Can't Have You", "Spoonful", "All I Could Do Was Cry", "My Dearest Darling", "I Just Want to Make Love to You", "A Sunday Kind of Love", "Fool That I Am", "Don't Cry Baby", "Losers Weepers", "I Found A Love" etc.
Check out Ronnie Spector and Ronnettes...Phil Spector, music producer, created the "Wall of Sound" type of recording. You can hear it in Donor's songs, Righteous Brothers, and many more!!!!
This was the song my sister chose for the first dance with her husband at their wedding. I had the album. She "borrowed" it. It's almost coming up on 25 years and I still have yet to see that album. 😐
Oh, and I can imagine Asia saying "Hahahaha! She kept it!" 😀 and BJ saying "Yeah, and she's probably listening to it right now!" 😁
But thank God if you still got your sister,as a man from a family of 10 children, things are meaningless as your siblings start to go see mom and dad in heaven
You've got to hear Etta sing All I Could Do Was Cry. That lady can sing with feeling. One of my top five.
Back when they really sang. No autotune, just pure vocal talent.
This is truly a classic! From Etta's heartfelt vocals to the beautiful musical arrangement, this was superbly done!! Love ya'll's reaction and comments too!

My daughter-in-law had this played at their wedding instead of the wedding March. It a beautiful, beautiful song…❤
Chills from the moment Etta begins singing....everytime I listen to this song.
❤ This song... everything about it is Superb the music ...her singing its seamless... beautiful. Love the range she moves through.
Her range, her tone, the emotion she brings - she's just incomparable.
I saw Etta James live about 30yrs ago. It was the 25th Anniversary of the lowrider club The Dukes out of 38th street and Cental , Ms James was one of the greatest. Got a chance to meet her, it was cool.
Nothing extra, nothing missing. Etta James and the song are one. 🤷🏻❤. She was magic.
Etta james is one of those legendary blue singers that you accept all of who she was it was part of the package. And she seemed like an artist who stood up for herself in the business the legendary blue singer etta james thumbs up.

This song so romantic!! No one does it like Etta James!!!
One of my favorite Etta James songs since it first came out in 1960. I was 12.
Sparking tears! This was on my playlist for my wedding reception 19 years ago. Others may have covered this song, but they can NEVER do it like Etta.
One of my all-time favorite songs. The way she sings this song expresses so much. She is simply Etta. She is simply great.
Etta James is the real deal. You have to. Have to listen to these great songs from her catalog.
ALL I COULD DO IS CRY,
A SUNDAY KIND OF LOVE,
SPOONFUL,

And that is how you own a song forever!
The first time I heard this song I was hooked. She captures the heart. She feels it and makes you feel it too. In this way she reminds me of Patsy Cline. Totally different styles but soooo beautiful and captivating.

Unmatched to this very day!! Pure magic timeless class
I remember this when it first came out and hit the charts, yes I grew up with this type of music and with this singer, memorable and iconic😊
Asia & BJ, you'll love Etta's "All I Could Do Was Cry", "Something's Got Ahold On Me" and "Trust in Me"!!!!
For met, it's everything about her-- her depth of feeling, her voice, her phrasing, her soulfuness...everything. For me-- again-- there's never been anyone better. The solid gold standard. Romantic dreamy perfection.🌟❤💫
There cannot ever be another Etta.
Etta. I love her. When I am cooking etc, enjoying the weekend…..she has sang many songs for me.
Now this is true classic, Etta had the voice of gold, this song is definitely my favorite song of Ms. Etta

I love the two of you together listening to the music and reacting so honestly with your own emotions! ❤
About the smoothest, slickest song I've ever heard. Just had that undefinable quality that put it at the top of the heap. Man she nailed this.
If we were to send only one song out to the entire Universe ... this could be the one.
Asia and BJ, This song was written by Mack Gordon. Harry Warren for 1941 movie "SUN VALLEY SERENADE". 1942 hit the charts at number two on the Billboard charts.
