"I'd Rather Go Blind" is a blues song written by Ellington Jordan and co-credited to Billy Foster and Etta James. It was first recorded by Etta James in 1967, released in 1967, and has subsequently become regarded as a blues and soul classic.

@@remital6834 Agreed, but there is some solo etiquette to follow, she could have pause before of after to please the requirements, but instead she cut into it 3 times and spoke over it, no matter how important she thinks the comment is, it can wait til after the solo. This is what annoys the purists.

Thank you. She does remind me of Etta. In the bad old days when there was no money in music, even if you were a star, you could go and see Etta for a cover charge that was less than the cost of a beer, but she would still sing her guts out for the audience. When the snow was blowing outside, and the roads were nearly impassable, the five or six of us that would show up early in the week would sit at the bar with the band and hear stories about the abuse coming from the booking system that made it difficult for such great musicians to make a living. Albert's Hall in Toronto would book her several weeks per year. I would finish my nap and take the subway to the venue and meet friends or coworkers a few nights of the week. I would leave before the last act and get to be so that I could get to work by 5:30 am. After I put in my 10-12 hours, I would go and take the nap and do it again.
She once asked me if I was gay because one of the players noticed that I left before the 'red dress' or 'blue dress' ladies at my table. I had to explain that some of us had to work very long hours because we had mortgages that we were trying to get rid of before we could get married and start raising families. Being a young idiot, I never considered how insensitive that was. While the musicians appreciated the fans that showed up over and over again, some of us were able to earn a great deal of money than they could. The young guys I would go to see her with were not particularly well educated but were very skilled mechanically and worked at a place where they could work as much overtime as they wanted. Three or four years of sacrifice would set up a person for life and would mean a comfortable life. When Etta died, she had a net worth of about half that of the kids I used to see her with. In my case, I paid off that mortgage in six years and finally chose to find a good woman and raise a family that I would be with as much as I could. Many of the great players that entertained us remained broke and never got the chance at a life of stability that most of us have. Some of the bad outcomes were due to cultural and dependence issues, but a lot came down to the environmental conditions created by a system that had too much control over artists.

Beth Hart and Joe Bonamassa are two of the most talented musicians in the blues rock world. Their music is a powerful combination of Hart's soulful vocals and Bonamassa's virtuosic guitar playing. They have released two studio albums together, Black Coffee (2018) and Don't Explain (2011), as well as a live album, Live at Royal Albert Hall (2013).
Hart's voice is a powerhouse, capable of great emotional range. She can belt out a bluesy number with the best of them, but she is also just as comfortable singing a tender ballad. Bonamassa is a master of the blues guitar, and his solos are always technically brilliant and emotionally charged.
When Hart and Bonamassa combined forces, the results were explosive. Their music is raw and passionate, and it always hits the mark.

All I know is if I ever want to clear out my tear ducks this is one of the songs I need to listen to. No matter how many times I listen to this or one of the other versions it happens.

Before you begin. You are about to experience what is arguably one of the greatest live blues performances in history. Enjoy.

When I recently heard this song on the radio, I thought someone tampered with Staples "Tennessee Whiskey" but this song is much much older back to Etta Jones

Angelina Jordan covered this song when she was 12. I love your little smile when you're pleasantly surprised in the beginning.

Britt: If you want to see the hard rock side of Beth, react to her studio version of her cover of Led Zeppelin's Black Dog. Also, Joe Bonamassa is an excellent singer too on Redemption and Going Down Live at the Greek Theater (and elsewhere). Now that so many greats have passed away in the last two years (BB King, Jeff Beck, Aretha, Etta, and others) if you look at their entire body of work, Joe is, arguably, the world's best LIVING blues/rock guitarist, and Beth is, arguably, the world's greatest LIVING blues/soul singer. For more Beth AND Joe, I'll Take Care of You.

Yes, Tennessee Whiskey is a literal new lyrics, same melody cover of this, Etta James' I'd Rather Go Blind. Good catch.

My favorite version of this song is actually when Beyonce did it as Etta James in the movie Cadillac Records.

Ive had the pleasure to see Joe 4 times and Beth only once. Alone they are blues Icons I believe Joe has the record for the most #1 blues albums by a long shot and Beth is probably the best blues singer since Janis but together they are a force of nature hoping to see them together sometime soon Joe can also sing with the best of them so checkout his solo work as well and Beth has a new album out covering her favorite Led Zep songs also a must listen This is 1 deep rabbit hole here with nothing but incredible music

I have to recommend Joe Bonamassa Live at Carnegie Hall with cellist Tina Guo. His guitar playing mixed with her cello playing is incredible.

Great reaction, Brittany! Beth worked up this sweat from her performance on the song before this one. It was truly a performance to behold.
