I'd read that she really pissed Etta James off. I laughed cos Beyoncé thinks she's the bees knees... Then Etta James happened to her ... 🤣 Something about a live performance she did in front of Etta and was dismissive/not crediting her when she's sat right in front of her.
At the risk of getting cussed out..... Beyoncé as a pure vocalist is a better singer......... However her covers of all things Etta..... fall far short
My girlfriend put on the Beyonce one and I didn't realize and got excited, and then I heard her voice and was like wait wait what the fuck is this shit? And she said what this isn't the original? And she put on Etta's version and she agreed that Beyonce doesn't even come close to coming close.
Her voice is SO powerful and controlled. She gives her soul when she sings. I swear Etta James and Janice Joplin are spiritual musical goddesses of the same mother.
This song was originally recorded at the famous Fame studio in "muscle shoals Alabama " They have a documentary about all the music played and recorded there. It's on Netflix and it's called Muscle Shoals. Check it out.
You can't sing like this unless you've been through some hardships, and broken relationships. This woman has been hurt plenty of times. Rest in heaven Ms. Etta James.❤😇🙏💔
She was high as hell but it made no difference!!! She indulged heavily during this time in music but still sang her ass off though!!! Talent in spades!!!
Just listen to that voice. Etta was a fireball when she got to rolling. Just check out her covers of Tell Mama, Do Right Woman, Do Right Man, and Purple Rain.
Such a powerful voice! So expressive, so emotive! She was a beast! She was looking at that audience saying "Do you hear me? You better be hearing my pain!" Thanks I never saw this video before.
You weren’t ready for Ms Etta were you? Love this song. Listen to At Last.. another great one. Who’s the black and white pic of on your wall there. Great reaction.
I saw her in the mid-1990s at a free show in Baltimore. They were just set up in the hood on a rock slope near the railroad tracks. Her and this fantastic band layin' it all out. It was killer.
Yass! Ms. James with through a lot of things in her life! At Last and All I could do was cry! Check out Ms. Billie Holiday if you want to get more chills!
She’s giving me goosebumps - she’s singing from raw emotion and deep deep down from her gut. Love it. 😎 I liked when she nearly knocked out the guitarist at 9:25 🤣🤣
I've loved Etta's music for years. Very sad day when she passed in 2012. My fave song of hers is her cover of Trust In Me. Other great ones include All I Could Do Was Cry, Pushover, Something's Got A Hold On Me, Tell Mama and Security. Would love to see more reactions to her music. Such a powerful vocalist!
Etta owns this song, there is no doubt. But or all the others who have covered it, Beth Hart’s version with Joe Bonamassa is the only to come close to the passion and soul this song deserves.
Born Jamesetta Hawkins, her voice was so earthy and soulful! ‘At Last’ was her biggest hit. Multiple Grammy awards, and inducted into several Halls of Fame, Etta ‘Sweata’ James (as I call her) was a master of craft. ❤️
Queen Etta, one of the best blues singers I've ever heard, so many great songs! Try Like a Rock, What's Done in the Dark, worth a trip down the rabbit hole.... lol
Listen to the music of this and the music of Chris Stapletons Tennessee Whiskey and tell me it ain't the same song!! 🤣🤣 Etta's voice though...so amazing
Happens a lot. The riff to "mannish boy" by muddy waters is used in at least 5 songs.... also, the most popular song structure ever, is the 12 bar blues structure...... literally hundreds of songs with that exact structure.

We Miss you Ms. James
We respect this talented lady, not just for her great voice but because, in spite of her many mountains to climb, she came out on top, time and time again. She had many health issues, beat several serious addictions, had a very troubled personal life, yet always came back and succeeded. Her fans loved her because she played around with the audience and got them worked up. Her song At Last was sung by Beyonce, who played Etta in the movie Cadillac. It was based on her time at Chess Records while under contract. You should try that song and My Dearest Darling, All I Could Do Was Cry, Something's Got a Hold on Me and anything she recorded. I saw her in concert a few years before she died and she blew the audience away even though she couldn't stand for very long and was seated most of the time, her voice was as strong as ever!

As much as I love Etta.. koko Taylor gives me life on this song
And her musicians, backing her up so smooth and perfectly.
How have you lived this long without hearing this wonderful voice? She’s one of the BEST ever.

Look out, the great Etta James is on fire . Love her.
I was lucky enough to see her perform at Chicago Blues Festival a little more than a decade ago. RIP Etta.
Anyone else notice the mic down at her waist at 10:50? Holy moly that’s power!
I always feel that she reminds me of Janice Joplin... The emotional expression..
Janis adored her.
I was gonna say the same thing! They have the same kinda connection to the music... Bone deep... Soul deep.
Joplin was one of her biggest fans
