6:38 This actually give credence to a theory of mine; that Velkhana actually started life as a Kushala Daora, before gaining its icy powers after consuming or absorbing power from the crystals left behind by Shara Ishvalda, and the Legiana lured by its song. That as it molted, it gained the icy powers imprinted on its shell, allowing it to form the ice armor it utilizes in battle. Additionally, I believe that Vaal Hazak was spawned when the effluvium fungus infected the cast-off molt of a Kushala Daora, gaining mobility and some wind manipulation powers as a result.
The Monster Hunter Orange manga has a couple of nice ideas that I'd like to see in the games, like the whip-sword and most importantly the wind attribute in weapons, either as just a new element, a status effect that slows down some of the monster's moves or even as a brand new kind of attribute beside elements and statuses
3:38 "the exoskeleton grants kushala an improved flexibility" That makes no sense, one of the trade offs of the exoskeleton is its rigidity, an endoskeleton offers less protection and more mobility. "This exoskeleton offers a large surface area for muscles to attach to" Without a joint these muscles would be useless and the need for a joint makes the surface area irrelevant if we talk about flexibility.
The exoskeleton bit was really interesting! Although I’d also like to point out that due to elder dragon bones in the quest rewards for Kushala hunts, this also implies they have an internal skeleton as well as an exoskeleton. So this guy has two skeletons, and one of them is made of metal. Just thought that was cool

I feel like you should have started this series maybe more than a week before a brand new monster hunter game comes out LOL, you guys are gonna have your hands full! Shame, I don't want you to sleep on this series, really enjoyed this first episode!
The inclusion of Nergigante adds an interesting dynamic to the tiers of elder dragon it preys upon, in that they are subjected to the classic predator-prey arms race that had previously been thought irrelevant to such powerful creatures. Kushala's metal armor would certainly make sense as an adaptation against the jaws of its predator. Of course, as said in the video, the disadvantage of this strategy comes into play when it has to molt, as then it is entirely vulnerable. No doubt a pivot of the relationship between these creatures is how competently a Nergigante can track a rusted individual, and in turn the rusted individual's ability to evade it.
Ive noticed with kushala's torso design seems similar to gills on fish im assuming its apart of helping kushala fly easier or more likely to suck wind internally to fire it back out? Possibly just how kushala looks and actually surves no or little purpose but the design of its torso looks fairly similar to gills
5 Fun facts not included, 1. If you pay attention to the Cathar Guru's Dialogue, he makes reference to the fact that the Kushala you fight in 4u is in fact the very same one from Dos, as with the help of his brother (the Jumbo Village Chief) he'd been warned of the coming Kushala after it had been fought off from Jumbo. 2. Kushala eats ore, this can be observed as far back as the second generation if there were ore deposits available in the jungle. 3. Kushala was technically the first monster in the series to have the Elder Dragon Classification, as it was invented by the guild in Gen 2. So even though Lao, Kirin, and Fatalis came first, Kushala is the first by classification. 4. Some varieties of Kushala native to the regions around Val Habar and other locales in 4u have exhibited the ability to naturally produce ice, this was a push by the developers in the 4th generation to establish Kushala as an ice monster. 5. The Scarred Rusted Kushala in 4u is the only monster in the series that we have not killed in-game, nor did it directly go to it's demise like Zorah. Since it's battle ended in a standard repel, and regarding the fact it has survived encounters with hunters before, it might very well still be alive.
@@kingofflames738 Sorry I needed to correct myself. In game they're still divided into the ED classification, but the Guild only really made it an official classification during the events of Gen 2. So it's the first in-canon monster to garner the classification.
Wind weapons would be interesting! I'd personally love if Elder Dragon weapons were differentiated with unique effects rather than standard elements. Using the Elder Dragons from World as an example, let's say that Kushala's weapons could have increased attack range, utilizing its horns to create dangerous wind pressure from a distance. For bows and bowguns, this could mean faster, or further flying ammo types. For Teostra's, it could mean the ability to utilize Fire and Blast at the same time, with every attack, unlike some Dual Blades which only have one element on one blade. For bowguns, perhaps this could mean enhanced Special ammo types, like Wyvernblast, Wyvernsnipe, and Wyvernheart dealing additional Fire or Blast damage. For Vaal Hazak, while weapons are drawn, you would be wrapped in a damaging aura that slowly eats away at a Monster's HP, while very slowly healing you at the same time. And for Nergigante, the weapons could slowly regenerate Sharpness, similar to how Nergigante's spikes slowly harden over time. Not sure what it could mean for ranged weapons, though. These are just random ideas, really. Felt like getting them out lol It helps that science is kinda loose in MH. It doesn't make sense how slapping a detached Kushala's horn to a weapon would make it control wind accurately, but then again, slapping a Fire T-rex's fur to a slab of bone somehow makes it set things on fire.
You forgot to mention the fact that kushala tend to molt in high altitudes. With examples being on top of mountains to have as little oxygen effecting their freshly molten layer until it hardens, as this can effect the integrity of the exoskeleton when initially hardening.

Good video. Here’s like one of the biggest secrets of Monster Hunter, except for Japanese readers only for other readers (for MH2 only came out in Japan), is of all the conversation text the NPC Jumbo Villagers (& Dundorma NPCs) says between from quest level progression to quest level progression. Like what the Jumbo Chief saying? Who’s the female wyvernian lady comes into the village later, that the MH wiki lacks info of? Like what’s her intro? Same for the NPCs in Kokoto village in Dos, like when first time going there what the first thing the Kokoto Chief says to you? Is he a grouch to the hunter for being from another village likewise in MHGU? (“Jaggi balt” & the diaper insult he says to the hunter in Generations) What does he say during night when he’s over where his sword is embedded at? Is he paying respect to his deceased fiancée there, & his conversation is likely talking about what happened to his fiancée during that time? Many questions!

Kushala is my favourite ^^ although not my favourite to fight at all xD would love to see a lore video about Dire Miralis :3
all the detail of monster is fascinating, looking forward for more!!
Did you know in ruined tower in MH freedom Unite you can find Decayed Dragon Scales when minning the tower walls? The same material you can find in kushala shedded skin on top of the snowy mountain.
I heard that tower was build by killing a bunch of Kushala Daoras just for their metal material.
I'd love to see more lore videos on some of the massive monsters like ラヴィエンテ(Laviente), Dalamadur, the Mohrans, Lao, and even Gogmazios.
Same. Gogmazios is a beast, the fact that it can fly is mind blowing
I'm so happy you included the Kushala Daora ecology video from freedom unite
I like this wind dragon
I would love to see some Fatalis lore, as well as information regarding the Crimson and White subspecies
"According to all laws of aviation, Kushala should not be able to fly, it's body is too heavy for it's wings to get it off the ground. But Kushala doesn't care what humans think, because he's an elder dragon."
A dalamadur story would be great
A mitte correction to your exoskeleton statement: Daoro must possess a skeleton like every other dragon. Just because you can receive elder dragon bones from him. So his steel exterior is an additional exoskeleton or just his harden metall skin
Omg I love this ! I learned so much ! Please make more of those ! 🥺🙏🏽
Still remember how finding the exoskeleton in freedom unite was such a mystery for me.
Nostalgia !
With all the talk about Kushala's exeskeleton we should't forget about the fact he still has a regular skeleton too
There was wind element in frontier as a mix of thunder and ice elements and the only monster that used it was the Garuba Daora, which looks like a golden kushala with crystals for horns and claws
