    About:
    Please check out • This Almost Killed My ... about the design flaw (for aquarium use) on the Inkbird Temperature Controller.
    I received a comment about instruction on setting up the Inkbird 306 Temperature Controller I showcased on a previous video. This video explains the process on how I set it up. Please note in the video, I may be off on any Celsius units. Sorry, I'm an American and we typically use F and I use F to keep things sane for me.
    -- Setup of the Inkbird ITC306T Temperature Controller --
    Settings:
    TS1/TS2 = Temp Set Value 1/2
    DS1/DS2 = Heating Differential Value 1/2
    CA = Temp Calibration
    CF = Temp Unit
    TR = Time Setting
    TAH/TBH =Time A(1)/Time B(2) Setting Hour
    TAñ/TBñ = Time A(1)/Time B(2) Setting Minute (NOTE: "ñ" is supposed to be "M". On device it shows as "ñ")
    CTH = Current Time Setting Hour
    CTñ = Current Time Setting Minute
    Important Notes for setup:
    1. If you use Fahrenheit, I'd recommend adjusting that setting first.
    2. To save, press and hold "SET" button for ~3 while in edit setting mode. If you let it timeout, it will exit mode and NOT save anything.
    How to setup:
    1. Press and hold "SET" button for ~3 seconds
    2. Adjust TS1(Daytime temp setting) to desired Temp
    3. Adjust DS1 to amount of degrees below TS1 you wish heater to turn on at.
    4. Adjust CA to calibrate the temp if needed on thermometer probe
    5. Adjust CF to desired Temperature Unit. C for Celsius and F for Fahrenheit.
    6. Adjust TR to desired setting. 0 for only one temperature set. 1 for running a different temperature during the day than at night.
    7a. If choosing 0 for TR value, move to Step 10.
    7b. If choosing 1 for TR value, repeat steps 2 & 3 for TS2 and DS2 then move to Step 8.
    8. Set TAH/TAñ for daytime temp start setting and TBH/TBñ for nighttime.
    9. Set CTH/CTñ for the Current time.
    10. Press "SET" button for ~3 seconds to save settings.
    I hope that helps you.

    I know this is an old video but I'll comment anyway, I have been researching these ink bird control units and there's two things that I just can't grasp.
    #1 what if the temperature probe comes out of the tank, then the ink bird will kick on because the temperature probe will be sensing room temperature making the heater run constantly, thus cooking the fish which is what the ink bird is supposed to prevent.
    #2 what happens during a water change? Wouldn't the ink bird kick the heater on when the water level drops in the aquarium? the only thing I can think of is you would have to have the probe low enough in the tank so that it's not out of the water.

    • @AquariumThoughts
      @AquariumThoughts  2 роки тому +1

      #1: if you are using a heater with it's own thermostat as well, you set it at a temperature that won't cook your fish but still higher than what you set the imkbird
      #2: have it low in tank. I also wrap it in items like filters going into water instead of using the suction cups and at a level where I don't go below in water charges. You can also unplug them if you have extreme worries on this and probably would be suggested if you have heaters that would break in water change situations if the turn on during said event.

    Hey my ink bird keeps going above the set temperature I have it set to 23c but it is going to 38c

    • @AquariumThoughts
      @AquariumThoughts  3 роки тому

      Stainless steel tip or the rubberized tip?
      When you say it goes above the set temperature, are you saying it's keeping the heater on above that level or just reading that the water temp is going above that point?
      I've had it read Waaaaay higher than the set tenp but heater was off and temp in my tank was actually fine. The probe itself went bad. If the heater is staying on beyond the set temp then there might be something else wrong or heater is accidentally plugged into to "Cool" plug if you have a model with a heating and cooling option.

    • @AquariumThoughts
      @AquariumThoughts  5 місяців тому

      It was most likely the probe that went bad. I had the same issue. I actually did a video on replacing the probe, but if you don't feel comfortable working with electrical stuff, you might want to buy a new one, and look for one of the Inkbird versions that have replaceable probes as that seems to be the weak point. I replaced one of mine and worked fine afterwards.

    Thank you so much for this! I bought this after having another heater fail and fry my tank, and went to set it up last night and it might as well have been in Greek. I don’t know why they can’t put instructions that actually makes sense! Appreciate the explanation, I wanted to do a watch through first as this was the first video I head on, and when I have a bit more time later I’ll go back and do the programming but it looks like everything will be so much simpler.
    The one question I do have, I see how to set it to turn on The heater if it drops a degree or however you specify below the desired temperature. But when I bought this I had been told that you could set a max temperature that would set off an alarm or something, is that a different model than this? So say I want my aquarium to be 80°, and I said it to kick on at 79°. But isn’t there supposed to be a way to set it so that if it goes up to 82° an alarm goes off or something like that?
    Thank you!

      Thanks. It should be easier. Wish it was easier. They do have a wifi version but I've never played around with that.

    • @AquariumThoughts
      @AquariumThoughts  2 роки тому

      @Charleston Reiki & Well Be-ing Center I got a chance to look through the device as well as reading the manual. There is option to setup a high temp warning on the 306t I have.
      A few options: The wifi version apparently have the option to set up a hi temp warning.
      you can get an inkbird with a heat and cool option. Plug in heater into the Heat plug and set the temp for the heater. For the Cool plug, plug in a siren/light/alarm or whatever you want to inform you if it reaches a particular high temp.
      I may have to invest in a wifi version if I ever need to replace any of my inkbirds.

    Surely a differential of 1c is to much? That will allow the water temps to continually drop and rise by 1c. I'm not sure what the heaters themselves are set to do but I think it's less than that.

    • @AquariumThoughts
      @AquariumThoughts  4 роки тому

      On mine it's in F, but I don't think a 1 degree F or C differential would matter much for most fish as they will see water temp changes in nature. We aren't talking about sudden shifts of water temps here.

      Yes, you can plug two heaters in. As long as you have the model that does not label one plug hot and the other cool. 👍 If it's the 306, you're good
      As far as temp goes, I believe I do mention that in the video but I set it to the max I feel the fish will be comfortable at. I think I have most of mine set to 84-86. Always set it up in a way that if the Inkbird sticks on, the heater will turn off.

      @AquariumThoughts  5 років тому

      It should work for the itc-306 as well. I'm pretty confident to say only difference between the 306 and the 306t is the probes. 306 is stainless steel probe and 306t is plastic probe. I'd recommend coating the 306 stainless steel probe with silicone or replace the probe itself. I've had a number of those fail as water seeps into probe. Coating the probe will be cheapest and easiest as a lot of us probably already have Aquarium safe silicone already. But probe replacement only cost me $11 and was pretty easy when it failed

      What model is the Inkbird you have? There's a version that has cooling and heating options. Check the plugs. If one side says "heat" and the other "cool" it isn't going to work how you want it. If that's not the case, switch the plugs to the heaters around and see if the same one that isn't working works or not. If it starts working and the other doesn't, it's the Inkbird unit. If the heaters both work the same, it's the heater, which in that case check the temp you have heater is set to. Just a few things I could see that could be wrong.
      If you want two heaters setup, you should have the itc-306t, not the 308.

    • @AquariumThoughts
      @AquariumThoughts  4 роки тому

      On these models, there are no ways to run two different heat mats running separate temperatures. The 306 series does have two outlets that run at the same time to bring the temp to the same temp. You'd have to run multiple controllers or find one that had multiple probes that allow you to run multiple devices to different temps. I have seen one model that has two probes but it is to operate plugs to the same temp and only use multiple probes for a more accurate effect. Maybe someone knows of such a device that you are looking for.

If they are in different ones, then I'm guessing the one reaching your desired temp is also the one with the probe and might be reaching temp faster than the other. If that's the case, you'll need a separate controller for the other enclosure and should be anyways. If they are in the same enclosure and one is stopping before the other maybe the inkbird is defective or the mat is defective or the temp controller in the mat is set up wrong or not accurate.

    MAN, If your explaining to people who dont know how to use this thing, you are going way way way to fast. your pushing buttons up and down so fast that you are more confusing then the manual.

      Thanks for the input. I can be bad at going too fast when talking and explaining things. I might just have to try this one again. Part of it was also trying to get through this without the device timing out which is why you see me pressing buttons randomly as well.
