    Couldn't agree more as I bought into the brand by purchasing the gmt 500 39 premium as well. The renderings you gave should be taken seriously by Steinhart as I also want to buy the more original pieces and would love to see the black/red 500

      I see we agree 100% on Steinhart 😉 we both love this more unique style and would love to see more of it. What do you think, it doesn’t really look like that is going to happen though?

      @@TheWatchScientists No, I agree that it doesn't look that it will. A simple expansion of the 500 Premium Line like your renderings would be amazing though and I think lots would buy. I see that our choice (500 P) sells well and a big following on Gnomon so you never know? Hey, if you're in Germany swing by and talk Gunther into it!

    Love the one to one homages from Steinhart! It's not a Rolex, but has the classic Rolex style at a fair price. The nail in the coffin for me is that Rolex doesn't want to sell me a sub, they want me to get in line and buy other watches from them first before "I'm worthy" to get a steel sports model.

    You hit the nail on the head with this. I keep telling one of my friends here that Steinhart is so close to being a gigantic player, they just gotta leave the homage game behind. They make absolutely solid watches and they have a name that just sounds as good as it reads on the dial. Im really hoping for the best for Steinhart

The first one I picked up because of urban gentry like you stated the ocean one titanium 500 then I ordered the vintage red 42 and I just purchased the Ocean One 39 ceramic black. For a vast majority of people, spending 600 EUR for a watch is a lot of money. Most people wear and buy watches costing around 50 EUR, so this is 12 TIMES! more expensive. Rolex is an absurdly expensive watch, which was previously copied for very cheap, or homage'd for a lot, but with significant differences in design. Steinhart did what people wanted. They made a high quality look-alike, with a good movement, that is simply an amazing value. Now all the posh Rolex owners feel somehow offended by it, because they don't feel so special anymore. It's ridiculous. I am glad Steinhart does what they do, because pricing your regular watch at 30k EUR is stupid. No other industry, has such huge price differences, between basically the same products. Being expensive, exclusive and charging extra for it is cool, but when you charge 1400% extra just for a logo, then it stops making sense.

    Watching this in 2024 and bought my first Steinhart. I bought my first Rolex when I was 21 (1999) and I wore it for a good 10 years then just stayed in its box since. Bought tons of homage watches since then, Invicta, Phoebus, Loreo, etc… Steinhart is the best out there and I will buy again.

  • @gurtana
    @gurtana 3 роки тому +8

    I agree. More individual character and refinement of their own pieces would be welcome at the 38-40mm range. But I think that buying their historic homages of watches which are simply not available today , eg their 70s Rolex Milsub homage (which Steinhart call Ocean One Vintage Military) is probably more tasteful, because it's a nod to a different era of watch that Rolex don't make today - and the original time pieces are basically unobtainable.

    • @TheWatchScientists
      @TheWatchScientists  3 роки тому +1

      Yes that is also true, some of their vintage homages do look very tasteful indeed.

    • @kopite1967
      @kopite1967 3 роки тому +1

      Totally agree, I have the Steinhart 39mm Military Vintage from Gnomon, it is a beautiful watch and very well respected by collectors, because the Rolex 5517 which it is a homage to was never meant for commercial sale anyway and if you can find one now for sale, it would cost £75.000 upwards.

    • @gurtana
      @gurtana 3 роки тому +1

      @@kopite1967 Definitely. I've actually purchased their exclusive with Gnomon watches called the Ocean 39 Marine Blue - this is basically the homage to the Tudor Mil-sub 9401 from the 70s. It's a lovely watch in 39mm, sold with a sapphire domed crystal now.

    • @kopite1967
      @kopite1967 3 роки тому

      @@gurtana That’s a beautiful watch, I wish Rolex still produced tool watches like these and not the current so called Submariner tool watches they produce now, Rolex now are ridiculous you have to go on a waiting list for a year or more for an £8.000 watch, or pay double or more on the grey market to get it sooner.
      Tudor watches are now what Rolex used be, affordable and obtainable unlike Rolex which are now just an advertisers and marketing executives wet dream!

    • @gurtana
      @gurtana 3 роки тому +1

      @@kopite1967 Thank you. I am also considering the Steinhart you have, as again, it's a homage to a watch you just can't get today from Rolex. What drew me to the Tudor homage was partly due to the recent release of the blue Black Bay 58. The Steinhart Ocean 39mm Marine Blue seemed a good alternative because it had the classic square hour markers (which Tudor only have on their bigger Pelagos diver) and the OceanBlue Marine had the faux patina on the dial (in contrast to the Blue bay 58's stark white markers). I already have a proper Tudor Black Bay 58 in the black dial and I felt this would be good compliment but also a different thing. I agree, that Tudor is basically what Rolex was a few decades ago. They are making some modern classics that are still relatively affordable and obtainable without as long wait lists. And Steinhart has brought back one of their classics. And that's what appeals to me about homage watches - getting something that is a copy or inspired by pieces that are simply discontinued or unobtainable now, for brand new, with modern movements and warranty.

    When I got my first Rolex years ago, and worked where most peers in my office wore even higher-end watches, an homage watch owner would have been laughed out of the building. But these days, my crowd knows nothing about watches except the Apple watch. Plus Rolex is not anymore like it was decades ago. Even if I could get my hands on one of the hottest new models today, I would sometimes be hesitant to wear it, especially when travelling to some places domestically or internationally. I wear my Rolex when I can, but my Steinhart Ocean One 42 GMT, while still unique in its own way, fits my comfort zone so I can enjoy it when I don't want to wear Rolex.

    I think that was a fair assessment; with a brand like Steinhart who has proven to be an incredible watch maker they have the opportunity to do greater things through brand innovation and creativity. But I also understand from a business aspect they are filling a critical gap for those folks who cannot afford and even for those of us who can afford a Rolex own something quicker and more efficiently. 19K for stainless watch is crazy...industry leaders are saying it’s ridiculous to pay more 8K for stainless steel without complications and precious materials like gold or platinum. I don't get what the fuss is about... Rolex-homages seem to sell very well at the moment, so Steinhart are simply meeting that demand.
    Plus with my preference for their vintage models (I own the 39 OVM, Marine Blue and GMT Ceramic Premium), I tend to ignore their homages to more modern Rolex-models.
    BTW: The 39 and 42mm Batman might look less like obvious Rolex-homages, but when you look at them closely, you'll find that almost all elements come from Rolex - just not from the GMT-Master or the Sub. The only thing distinctly un-Rolex (AFAIK) is the raised rehaut.

    I bought a Rolex a few years ago, but that will be my last purchase from them. Current pricing, waitlists and AD bs are just not worth it to me. Steinhart makes good watches at fair prices- and they are available at list price. I have two now and will likely get more.

  • @afarooq9086
    @afarooq9086 3 роки тому +1

    Well I personally think we are going through an era where every company is copying the other to an extent. Whether they're watches, smart phones, cars, bikes, gadgets, etc etc,,,, list goes on and on.
    I have owned three Steinhart watches so far with an exceptional build quality and for exclusively fair price and they all are homages. So for me it doesn't matter if you're copying others but what really matters for me is, who does it better, how he does it and for what price. And if we take a deep look into everything, Steinhart always keeps its own DNA in its styling, like Rolex doesn't normally do matt finish dials in their similar models as Steinhart does, Rolex cases are never as thin as Steinhart's are, Rolex always have curvy lugs whereas Steinhart keeps them straight, deployment locks are different, bracelets don't taper down in exact dimensions either in all homages, screw down crown housings are completely different as well, see through and engraved case back on Steinhart whereas Rolex keeps plane, despite having so many differences if Steinhart still finishes their watches in a similar manner like Rolex does, I think Germans deserve a big applause for that.

    • @TheWatchScientists
      @TheWatchScientists  3 роки тому +1

      Yes that is true we see it everywhere.
      We also both owned other Steinhart watches and don’t have anything against homages. We just personally like “more unique” watches in their lineup. I kinda like both of their worlds. Their own stuff and their homages (I think I own 6 of them, all in 39mm, including the 500 gmt 39mm). Actually, I prefer their homages to Rolex because of the larger mercedes hands (it gets wider from the center to the mercedes logo), the size/casing of their 39 mm watches (particularly true since Rolex is going for the 41mm route) and the option of jubilee/oyster on all their models. Also... Rolex did not make a ceramic coke yet ;)

    Steinhart is some of the best watches under $2,000. I’ve had $500 Steinhart be just as good and possibly better watch than my Omega triple calendar and Tag Aquaracer. Excellent watches, amazing quality, good customer service. Reliable Swiss movements. Good looking watches that are not copies, they are inspired by Rolex but who cares? They’re not replicas. Rolex has a terrible business model that only Cuck losers will bend over for a Rolex.
    Also, I love my seikos. 80% of my collection is seikos but even their $1,000 presages with a very basic and undecorated 6r35 cannot come close to a sellita or eta in precision or looks.

    My Ocean One Vintage GMT is my daily wear and it's not a 'one to one' which you repeat way too much in this video. I do not like specifics on watch it's patterned after the 1970's Rolex Explorer II 1655 due to it being 39mm and having the cyclops. Steinhart's hour- and minute hands are larger, water resistance of 300m vs 100m on the Rolex and at 42mm for a big mans wrist at 8.5" it wears well. As other have stated here get what 'you' like and that's all that matters. Honestly if I had both I would probably sell the Rolex for an Omega or put to a Patek. Also the small staff Günter maintains lends to a more personal touch to me.

I’m not going to drop $10K on a Rolex (in my opinion it is only that price due to market manipulation, and Rolex have been doing that for decades) however the Steinhart latest Coke GMT has caught my eye due to the quality so they will get some Euros from me. Should they focus on new pieces and drop the homage watches you may see the end of the company so they need a balance.I think that is what they have on offer, to enable them to produce unique pieces they need to retain and continue to perfect the homage.
