Yet another big shout out to my mate Ashley for loaning me this Steiny! My first Steiny, and I must admit no real surprises. The photos of this watch suggest that the hands and bezel insert are cheap, and they are! HA! A few niggles, but none that could not be fixed by picking another watch from their line up. A serious contender this one. Cheers, Jody

"If you don't like homages, you probably shouldn't be watching the video."
You charming, naive child. Many people track down videos about things they don't like, precisely so they may complain bitterly about them.

I have this in the 39 GMT and along with my Moonie, this gets the most wrist time. I love the silky smooth winding when it is off my wrist - I smile every time I wind it. For the money, this can't be beat. They also have a very lovely pink mother of pearl 39 diver for that special woman in your life.

I also have the 39mm version on the jubilee. My favorite watch. Super comfortable; keeps time with in 2 seconds per day and everything lines up perfectly. Took a while for the stiff bezel to break in, but now it's super smooth. For the money it's also my best value watch by along shot.

Great Review! My Steinhart GMT hand lines up perfectly and keeps time, since Christmas when I received it, at +2 seconds per day with the ETA movement.. The lume is excellent with night adjusted eyesight and the Jubilee bracelet on my version is very comfortable. So far no complaints whatsoever. If a 42mm lumed ceramic replacement bezel were to become available for this watch I'd definitely be interested just because I'm a lume junkie.

The GMT hand lines perfectly. Take my word sir. Yesterday I was in the steinhart boutique in Aachen (A town here in Germany) and I had them all in my hands. I watches your video bevore and so I did not want the GMT version whe I entered the boutique. But when I was in the boutique and checkted them out. They lined up PERFECTLY. I asked the holder of the boutique about that issue and he told me if such misslineing should happen he would send this particular piece back to get a propper one. In the end I bought the black GMT with ceramic insert for under 500€.

Yeah. I was at Mr Engelen's store in Aachen last Saturday and bought a 39 Vintage GMT Premium. I also had the 39 Batman Premium GMT and the 42 Titanium Batman GMT on the wrist and before I bought my watch, I checked the alignment of all three pieces with a loupe. None of them were misaligned.

Love the work Jody! I've had the watch bug on and off for years. Had my Dad's simple Omega 1970's automatic restored for him 20 years ago.. he then gave it to me.. Dad's passed now but I often have that baby on my wrist. He also gave me a hand winding Benrus that many returning soldiers had. Mom worked for Bulova with my aunt.. so I have a nice Bulova tank style. Recently bought a Baltic Aquascaphe and have been loving it. Anyway, my two boys, 11, and 15 love your channel as well.. best from the Rocky Mountains of Colorado!

Just picked up the 39mm GMT Pepsi jubilee. Lots of the 5 things Jody didn't like are taken away... Smaller size, bezel insert actually looks pretty good (mostly due to the metal on the edge of the bezel is thinner), GMT hand lines up. I do have to agree the cyclops is not super magnifying, but it is better in person than in pictures. The lume though is dull, but lasts the night.
The 39mm is well worth the money!!!!

Thank you for reviewing a Steinhart & thanks to Ashley for his generosity - sharing it with us and the JOMW camera. I have been tempted SO many times by the Steinhart catalog. They sure do look good on paper! They offer so much and they are priced well compared to some other homage watches. I just never pulled the trigger because 1) I was waiting to see one thru the JOMW lens, and 2) I did not think much of the flat design of the case & lugs. My wrist is curved - shouldn't my watch also be curved? Anyway, thanks again for getting one for review - it was worth the wait. I look forward to hearing what you think when you get a Steinhart 39mm on your world map! (I can see the Steinhart staff nudging & elbowing each other, saying, "See! We were right to ignore his e-mails!") Maybe so, but I thought it was a fair and honest review.

    Fantastic watch and review...
"alot of people are complaining about the GMT not lining up on the dial? WAT?!?!?
    😂
The GMT lines up with the bezel markers not the dial markers..
    - readjust gmt again for it to land on the bezel marker between 10-12, of which is 1100 hrs.
The dial time is 1:55pm and the GMT 24hr scale time is read on the bezel, of which is 1055hrs.
It's working as it should! 😊

I will also say, I do love my 39mm models, they feel much more refined than the older larger sized models. Well worth looking into as they have a much truer vintage aesthetic. In a way they feel a bit like a divers 65 with how Steinhart does the case. But I can say at a reduced size, their tapered 20mm oyster style bracelet is a dream to wear, very similar to my air king.

I don't get why people with larger wrists don't think they can wear normal, yes, normal sized watches. Nobody on this planet can't pull off a 40mm watch.
This whole ladies wearing larger watches thing is really cutting into men's insecurities.
Any gentleman, no matter how big should be able to confidently wear even a 38.
Can't go by size alone either, many watches wear larger or smaller than their physical dementions.
Nothing is more of a factor than lug to lug, and case height. I don't really put much consideration into case diameter below 44mm.

  • @A_Dude_And_His_Watch78
    @A_Dude_And_His_Watch78 4 роки тому

I have been waiting for you to get your hands on a Steinhart. I agree with you about the 42 being a bit big with these due to the straight lugs. The 39mm Batman GMT is one that I have my eye on. That cyclops is one of the reasons I went with the Squale 1545 over the Steinhart OVM. I think one of the best Steinhart watches is the OVM 39. I have that one and with that and the Squale, I have a modern sub and mil sub for around $1000 total. I often use Steinhart as a point of comparison with other watches. If a watch is in the $400-$500 range and it only offers a Seiko movement or Miyota, I think there is better value with a regulated ETA or selita in a Steinhart. For example, NTH or Zelos. Anything with similar specs in that price range with less than swiss movement and I am less likely to buy. Great review!

The lume on the bezel is bright and matches the hands and indices perfectly and the ceramic enhances the looks of the entire watch considerably. Mine is still running at +2 seconds per day after 3 years and I've experienced no issues with it whatsoever.

Well I must be the lucky one I have the same watch in my collection I have a larger wrist and the 42mm version fits nice also the gmt hand lines up perfectly it has a eta movment .I spend some time in Germany every year and the last time I was there I asked if I could visit the factory for a look round and purchase a jubilee bracelet as I fancied an up grade they were quick to respond and offered me a tour but as my time was limited and the factory was a day drive from Padderborn I didn't make it ,my only gripe with this watch is the clasp the fold over part is very tinny to the touch and I must say my loom lasts much longer than the one you reviewed but having said that I thought you did a impartial review thanks I also appreciate your wide range of review's thanks again for a informative review.

    Thanks for video!
Steinhart seem to be great watches for the price. But I read that some people felt that the lugs are too flat and makes the watch too flat on the wrist. And when I look at Steinhart website all 39mm divers with window on the backside have GMT hand.
I am not interested in that and only find it another unnecessary feature and detail on the dial.

i know im a year behind seeing this video but, i have owned a few steinharts over the year including the rare "Great Barrier Reef" (only 111 made) the ceramic GMT coke, ocean one premiums, and now the 500 Titanium GMT Premium. i have had only one that had a misaligned GMT hand and when i messaged Gunter Steinhart himself he told me to send back the watch and he will have it re serviced and sent back. about 2 weeks later the watch came back with the hand fixed and no problems after that. they've stepped up their QC control since then and haven't had a problem since. a great place to get to direct message Gunter himself is the Steinhart Fan Page on Facebook since he is a member himself and is a regular on there.

Nice review mate...enjoy your holiday. Got to say that I’d go for the Parnis version (think theirs is 40mm with a jubilee bracelet as an option), and maybe throw in a better movement when the Chinese movement stops, and may still be cheaper than the Steinhart.

Watch arrived today. Ocean One ‘Pepsi’ with a Jubilee bracelet. GMT hand is spot on - as far as I can tell. As each second mark on the dial represents 24 minutes, the GMT hand is not a precision indicator - have to use the minute hand for that. GMT does allign with an hour mark when minute hand is at 12. Interestingly, Steinhart took almost two days shipping my watch after order this time - perhaps your video did have an effect on their QA process.

I owned both an Ocean One ceramic and Ocean GMT Pepsi for around 4-5 years and loved them for what they were...BUT I always hated the case shape and what they did with the end links. I even have a 7.25-7.5" wrist, and they always felt too big. I just bought a San Martin Pepsi GMT, and I love everything about it. I wish it were Swiss Made with a 2893-2 elabore for $200-400 more, but you can't have everything. Between the SM GMT and the Tisell Marine Diver, I think they are a perfect homage pair.

Yew, my GMT hand did not line up; I bought the 39mm with the charcoal-grey ceramic bezel. I had my watchmaker re-align the hands for me, and he said it was very fiddly to do so because the watch was so thin that there was, of necessity, a very limited clearance for the hand-stack. He advised me that a hard knock could easily put them out of alignment again.

having said that, the brand is one that I have looked at seriously on many occasions but finally never found the love enough to actually buy one.

Hey Jody (and everyone), if you go for the ceramic insert, I would advise against going for the black bezel version. The website's picture is misleading - the markers are much more grey and blend in with the glossy black bezel. Aside from that, I really dig my Steinhart Ocean One 39. Definitely my go-to Subby homage.

I have a 6.75" wrist and the 42mm works very well for me. I also have this watch and the Premium blue with a ceramic bezel and their ceramic bezels are a bit too reflective. The Aluminum bezel might be the preference till the start engraving their ceramics. I actually like the dial. Cyclops could be more magnifying, not sure why brands don't do better in this respect (does Rolex have the corner on magnifying glass?). I don't have the issue with the GMT hand and I like the dial fine. The hands might be more distinctive but it doesn't bother me that much.

I have the 39mm gmt 500. It is superb with none of the issues related here. Also, being 39mm is really fabulous on a jubilee and is not a homage, unlike this one. It would be good to see Jody look at the gmt 500 for comparison. A huge improvement IMHO.

I love my Steinhart GMT. 39mm, black ceramic Bezel (though the numbers are "ghosty" - depends on the lighting), GMT Hand aligns perfectly... still dont love that flat Lugs on my 6.7 inch wrist. Gets the most time on my wrist, even with my suit.

  • @RyanHarris77

I have the jubilee version on order. I haven't received it yet, but there are a few things I don't like:
    1. Underpowered cyclops
    2. Not a Maxi dial
    3. Aluminum bezel (would prefer non-vintage ceramic pepsi)
    4. Printed bezel numerals (would prefer etched/engraved)
    5. Dial could be blacker (black enamel please)
If Davosa produced a Ternos Professional GMT with a ceramic non-vintage Pepsi bezel, I would have that in a heartbeat. I confirmed with Davosa customer service yesterday that they have not developed a red/blue ceramic bezel.

Yes, Jody. I completely agree with you on your 5 things good & bad. a year ago, I had bought this watch from Gnomon, but as you said, I really hated the cyclops, and dull looking dial and boring clasp. So I had to sell it and buy something else.
As for Cyclops, I believe it is an easy fix and shouldn't cost much if Tisell and even Pagani sub can do it right. And for the dial, at least they can make it shinny black. For clasp, it is a mystery to me. Not just Steinhart, but so many micro brands / mid priced watches use exactly same clasp over and over again. There got to be something else more functional and interesting clasps around... Thanks for the review Jody.

The Steinhart Triton 1000 used to have (what looked like on their website) an impressive mix of orange and blue lume. They seemed to have toned the lume down on their current website, which is a shame
