It just doesnt sell that well.... With each hommage they can lure in NEW customers while satisfying the rolex addicted old customers with yet another model for the watch box. The big problem would be to pull off a design that would be more lovde than a hommage .thats not an easy task. Imagine you can ruin your buisness with just one really bad own design .You might just stick to the hommages after all
@@watch_a_mod354 I understand that. However, I know for sure that I'm not the only one who downright refuses to wear homages (aka carbon copies) and while we may be a minority I'm pretty certain that they'll lure in another group of potential clients who wouldn't be caught dead wearing a Rolex clone.
This watch, and variants of it, have been in existence for years. There is definitely a reason why they keep selling it but also why they continue to make homages. I think they’ve done what is trending by the market while putting their DNA in every watch
@@AlexTalksTwo True but isnt that what you criticized? Not enough own DNA? I guess we can both agree that steinhard will eventually find its way. one war or another but it wont be a drastic quick change as the past has shown us already. Steinhards policy is pretty clear from the start
Huge fan of the channel here, I have the gmt version for five years now and it’s a solid watch, no problems with the clasp and it shouldn’t be a problem because contrary to what the majority o people think titanium is harder and stronger than stainless steel, the “scratches” you see on a titanium watch the majority are on the oxide film that titanium develops to protect it. Just rubbing it with a pencil eraser ✏️ you got rid of it. As I said I have one for five years now and it’s an amazing watch for the money!
I own that watch for a few years, I love it really, it's one of my most worn watch. After a few years, a few very faint marks on the flat of the clasp and a couple invisible ones here and there. I don't know what you're going on about the clasp tho, it's perfect. It has eased off just enough really. Sure I would MUCH prefer one in the style of Zelos with a quick adjustment, but otherwise this watch is just great.
I own a Steinhart Ocean One Black Ceramic that I love, but have for years been eyeing this one. I LOVE the look of this and think it's almost the perfect watch. The only thing I'd prefer is a stainless steel version (and have emailed Steinhart several times stating my desire. So far to no avail). I personally am not a fan of Titanium. I think it feels too light and therefor cheap (to me) and don't like how susceptible it is to scratching. I don't mind (dare I say, even prefer) a heavy watch. If Steinhart ever release this in a SS version I'll buy it that day! Thanks for another great review Jodi!
The Ocean 39 GMT Premium also follows the same path. Case style, very Rolex. Differences are the hands, date window at 6, no cyclops, and a display back. An absolute bargain if you can find one. The Batman colourway that I own appears to have disappeared now, and has been replaced by green on green.
@@augustinf I like the way they mix things up. I visit them every few months to see if anything new has appeared. I'd like a One Premium with the same design as the 39, but in a Coke scheme.
This is one of the most appealing automatic divers I've seen on your channel. I like that its sub styled but not a straight homage and of course I'm a sucker for titanium! Great review as always.
Now that is a good looking watch. Very clean and so good to see Steinhart going to their own designs. Having said that Jody. my favorite Steinhart is your favorite Steinhart "Rolex classic".
Glad you had someone send you this to unbox and review! Coincidentally my Ocean One GMT in titanium with the Batman bezel is the one I've been rocking for the past couple of days. It was the first GMT I added to my collection and one of the best. And it was dead flat when I put it on the timegrapher. Keep the great content coming!
I was wearing my steel Ocean 39 GMT version of this piece when I saw this video! Love the differences that stop it being a straight Batman homage.... No Cyclops, baton hands, 6 o clock date and different font on the lumed bezel. Awesome piece.
An exceptional (but brief) review of a cracking good watch! I have the Steinhart Ocean One Vintage Military (yes a Rolex homage) with the same elabore movement, but no date, and I love it!!
My most worn watch is my OVM and like you I’ve been looking at this one for years, Steinhart had a flash sale so I couldn’t resist. Their shipping is one of the best in the watch industry to the US, not my first Ti watch but I have an idea it will be a favorite. Thanks Jody👍
I’ve seen this on their website and remember just loving the dial and handset. Maybe Steinhart should make original designs like this a larger part of their line-up. I mean their Rolex knock-offs are nice, but this is a legitimately cool watch that an enthusiast might really want on its own merits.
I own a Steinhart 500 Ocean One ceramic 6 months. It is my favorite watch. It looks so ... crisp, clear, different, clean, sharp. I have noticed many people looking at it, which I am not used to. I definitely will buy another Steinhart.
The Titanium clasp is perfectly secure. It just feels a little lightweight because it is made from Titanium, but it is just as robust as a steel clasp. Let’s face it, the spring pins will break long before the clasp or the bracelet, as they are designed to do.
most titanium alloys approach or exceed the hardness and durability of steel, but with a much better strength to weight ratio - I would not be concerned about the durability of a titanium bracelet.
Nice looking watch!! Exhibition case backs,I can take or leave/ make them practicle by having a power reserve indicator on display. Grand Seiko have this feature on some models. Always a great review Jody!
Thanks for the video. As usual, the main concern with titanium watches for me is whether all metal surfaces were coated with some scratch-resistance assuring coating. Titanium is softer than stainless steel used to make watches. And we all know that even the stainless-steel watches are not scratch-resistant unless they are subjected to special hardening treatment.
Nice watch , no doubt about that. The 42 (not sure whether Gnomon has a 39mm) is quite long. Despite the female end links, needs a min 7.25". I heard their titanium is quite sensitive/soft and prone to scratches/marks. Personally I see Steinhart Ocean One quite different from Sub. Very different case geometry, very different crown guards and crown. The l2l is way different as well. Unless we are talking the first Subs, nothing is at 39mm and definitely there ain't no sub or sea dweller at 42. Quite well builds, reliable mechanisms, affordable pricing and prompt customer service. Why not, a must imo for every watch enthousiast. Edit: I agree 100% for the clasp, not just for the 500 but for all Ocean One that have a 300m rating.
Does the Titanium have a coating to reduce/ prevent scratching ... my understanding is that titanium without the coating scratches much easier than stainless steel.
I have the ocean 2 premium as my beater watch and honestly it's great. 2892 elabore always within 2 to 3 seconds per day and the build quality is really something else. for the price? Good luck beating that !
Great review as always Jody. This one does look good. Although the sizing is a little on the large side for my liking. I think if they ever made a 39mm they would sell really well. The lume is surprisingly good, considering it's printed.
@@JustOneMoreWatch Steinhart has a wide range of watches that has nothing to do with Rolex designs. I've owned this watch for several years now and wear it regularly. Its a really well built solid watch which isn't flashy, yet catches your eyes, thanks to the lovely ceramic bezel and hits of blue. It can also take a beating. You can take it with you anywhere without much worry. I've taken it mountain biking, white water rafting, scuba diving and even golfing 😁 No problems at all...only drawback is since it's a matte titanium finish, scuffs are more obvious. Another Saturday, another fab review from Jody. Really like this watch but a lot of flecto from the double dome crystal isn't great (flat crystals are my bag). Would love one of these but only if they made it slimmer, lighter and about 15% smaller in size (I have a 1980's TAG Heuer 1000 and that's 37-38 across the bezel and for me the perfect size. I've got Casio Duro but it's just too big for me personally. Got what it's worth I have a 7" wrist.
Steinhart timepieces are truly 5-star but this Ocean One is really outstanding and beautiful. Ordering one now this very moment, can't wait to have it on wrist!!!
Thanks Steven and Jody! The missing paint from the three minute marker on the bezel would drive me bananas, which is a shame because this watch is a beauty otherwise. The blue accents and that great handset really work well here.
There’s not a lot NOT to like as long as you’ve got the wrist for it. Sub 7 inches would be pushing it. However, original design it most certainly is not: Although these days there’s few divers released that aren’t a re issue of something earlier. Looks like a nice watch if there’s a hole in your collection for a big light well made diver. Thanks for showing us this one Mr M !
Value for money wise Steinhart offers incredible VFM. The original(ish) design and titanium makes it stand out, my only reservation is that so many of them wear very flat. Great Review as always Jody!
Bought this but in GMT version for my dad for his 70th. He loves it! Highly legible, light abs robust. My only criticism is that the GMT hand is light blue and gets lost. A poppy yellow or red would have been better.
They do make a belting watch if you don’t mind homage look. Used to own an Ocean one vintage, very good quality, in fact one of the best bracelets I’ve ever worn
Jody I’ve had the Ocean 39 GMT BLUE-RED Diver Watch for several years with no issues. It is a quality watch, and I would much rather pay for this than the over inflated price for a Rolex. Do I like Rolex’s yes, I have an Explorer ll but I bought it years ago when their prices were reasonable.
Great review - this looks like a value packed watch. That 51 lug-to-lug might be too much for. Hoping you can get “just one more Steinhart” review in, the Ocean 39 Premium. That’s the most interesting watch in the current catalog, even though the Submariner and Explorer cues are quite obvious. Thank you for another thorough and thoughtful review.
I think this one's discontinued. Along with the similarly styled 39mm stainless steel Batman-GMT they used to have. Only model left is the 42mm Ti GMT with the same handset and basic look. I still wish I could loan you my 39mm OVM ... would love to see you review that thing. Alas... postage from Germany to Australia and back would probably exceed the value of the watch .. :D Glad to see Jody warming up to the brand - although I do completely agree about the case-shape for us guys with smaller wrists than Jody's. I have a 17 cm one (6.7in) and none of the 42mm versions I've owned or tried really looked right on me. The 39mm still has that insanely flat case-profile, but with the smaller size it doesn't really matter all that much. The 39 O1s probably don't sit as snugly on wrist as more contoured watches of the same size, but they're perfectly comfortable to wear.
Good review, that's a great looking watch 👍. It would be better if it was made for 300m, no one dives deeper than that anyway, and you're right, a matt bezel would look better too.
I just received mine 5 days before this video was released. Loving it so far. Agree the bezel insert should be matte in finish. I would have rather purchased the GMT version but it seems to be out of production, and a one direction bezel on a GMT is unforgivable for me. I really love the finish and the handset on these. The weight is noticeably lighter than a steel watch (I have the Ocean Vintage Military in 42mm) but the Ti version still feels substantial. Thanks for reviewing this one.
I was fortunate to have recently picked up a second hand Steinhart 500 Ti and double fortunate as it has the Soprod A10-2 auto movement. Keeps fantastic time accuracy.
I found one of these recently on ebay and bought for a great price and I couldn't be happier. I've been a fan of Steinhart for a while now and for what you get, they are probably the best deal around. Swiss made and in this case titanium for $550. And this is really nothing and probably to save money, they have gone to a cardboard box now away from the substantial leatherette presentation case they used to have. But you don't wear the box, so...
I have this watch on the steinhart rubberstrap with a black butterfly clasp. Its my go to, everyday watch. Light and comfy. Its a good toolwatch for everyday / active use, but with that shiny bezel I also can wear it a bit more dressed up and on a night out.
Think this is definitely the right level of homage. Arguably beats the Sub in a decent few specs, titanium, 500m ... I'd argue a better looking handset. Winner for Steinhart
Helm Miyako Jody! We need a review. I got a blue and its my daily now! Very impressed, compares in build quality to Tudors ive handled. Some negatives like the fauxtina and clasp though.
Wearing the GMT version for a while (sadly discontinued). It’s a great piece, clasp no issue, wears great on the rubber strap as well and the lume lasts all night!
Love my SNE575 but I would totally be lying if I didn't wish it looked more like this one. Imagine this one with a solar quartz movement and scaled to 39mm just like you say Jody, would be amazing.
And in these times you can use the dive time bezel to track the progress of inflation dood 🥳! But certainly an interesting offer outside the Euro-zone right now, like you said. Thx for peeling off the stickers on this one, think I have to buy stone coal instead of a Steinhard though, alas 🙃...
So close to being my perfect watch! I love everything about it except that thickness. The other dimensions are fine for my 8 inch wrist but I very much prefer a thinner watch. Nevertheless I WANT ONE. Thanks for another great video.
I have a Casio Data Bank DBC-30. I replaced the battery and it's working fine. My problem is one of the pins for holding the band to the watch has carved out one of the pinholes enough (the watch case is plastic) that the pin, and therefore the band, won't stay in place when wearing the watch. Has this happened to you? Any ideas on how to repair it?
Hey Jodi , I bought the Steinhart ocean premium 39 GMT black/blue bezel. An absolutely fantastic watch, I was disappointed in the packaging. It was the same cardboard box you received with yours but mine was damaged, definitely different to the usual leatherette box they have. I was tied between the 39 and the 42 titanium but happy I went with the 39, that's a big watch!
@@chrisselders3548 definitely a downer after expecting so much, I sent them an email to complain and after lots of back and forth they agreed to send me one when they got them back. They really emphasized that it was a purely one off agreement and any further watches u bought I would just have to accept the packaging as protection for delivery and nothing more.
@@steveoshea1844 hmm, that would have been pretty annoying. I just ordered and received (Late September, 2022) an Ocean One 39 with the green ceramic bezel. Happy to report that it did arrive with the leather case. Deleting it would have been a deal breaker for me, because I like to keep my watches in their original case, and these are particularly nice.
@@seayakI got my leatherette box in the end, after only one month of wear the lume numerals fell out of my bezel. I returned it for warranty and it was returned to me in it's proper box, pretty disappointing overall but I love the watch now it's fixed.
Like the look of this, right up my street size wise. Can't get on with the titanium bracelet though. Not keen on rhe look of the bracelet, and it would be too light for me for that style of watch. Love the dial and bezel though. Great review as always.
That is the perfect size for me, I own 2 Steinharts in steel and I don't mind the weight of the steel either. I would really like to have this titanium model partly because it is titanium and partly because of the hand design and the high legibility of the dial.
I've got the GMT-version of this watch, it is one of the watches that get the most wristtime. For me it is one of my more expensive watches but nevertheless one of my favorite daily beaters!
I think this one is a winner. Agree about the clasp. Long term durability of titanium on titanium friction is a question mark. The gloss bezel I rather like.
I was so close to pulling the trigger on this watch a few months ago. The only thing stopping me was the stainless steel bezel and the colour difference between that and the titanium of the rest of the watch. Why they did that I have no idea but it was the only thing that bugged me so I didn't buy it.
If Steinhart would make this exact version in 39 i would buy it hands down. I don't like Sub lookalikes usually but this one is very appealing. Yeah i know they make the 39 gmt, but i don't want the gmt complication.
Coincidentally, I'm wearing my Titanium 500 while watching this video. It's a non-premium non ceramic bezel one with cal. A10-2 by Soprod (ETA 2892A2) that I got second hand. I really like it, it's my go to summer every day diver and the lume is indeed fantastic.
I own this watch and love it. In addition to being toolishly-handsome, it is very smooth to the touch which makes it a pleasure to wear. Believe it or not, I sometimes wear it to sleep at night, it's that comfortable and pleasant on wrist.
I wish more companies would use higher grades of Titanium; higher grades are more resistant to scratches and can hold a bit of polish if so desired. But low grade Ti is a cost cutting measure as it is less expensive to machine. While out of the price range for the budget minded Sel Instruments produces an epic tool watch via grade 5 Ti.
The bezel at noon looks misaligned to my eye. I too am a sucker for Steinharts with four of them in my collection. On a different note the Steinhart Nav B Uhr doesn't seem to be homaging anything, particularly not a Rolex.
Decent looking watch. Great bezel, big bold clear hands for great visibility and still very much Subby homage. The clasp oh dear, such a common gripe with most of these homage type brands, they do a lot to get the watch looking good, but fall badly when it comes to either the bracelet or clasp. Overall though, I like it
I do have an older Ocean One, but I wish they would make it without the crown guards. When younger, I thought crown guards were the cat's pajamas but they do get in the way.
They should do non-hommages more often- they clearly know how to make a decent watch!

Glad to see Jody warming up to the brand - although I do completely agree about the case-shape for us guys with smaller wrists than Jody's.
Very nice ..like the blue touches as well.
Just recently picked up the Ocean 39mm 500m GMT in stainless steel and it is incredible!
39mm Two Hundred ft water resistant and thinner you've got a winner
Love it!!🥰 I just need to convince my wife that this is my “last watch”!! 😜😁😅😂😎
Nice enough Jody but the OLKO has captured my heart and i am on the waiting list for that reissue. Thanks for the review
What olko
Are the number on the bezel yellowish / creamy white ?
Great watch for the price. I wish steinhart used more matte finish bezels as mentioned.
I had an ocean 1 ceramic some years ago. I'm kind of sad I sold it on as the build quality was superb but I recall the lug to lug was an issue for me.
For second video in a row i am wondering: what is Jody wearing on the right wrist threw the intro? 🤔
The blue, black, white combo is excellent.
Yeah, they both wear larger. Good choice!
I was also disappointed with the new packaging. I won’t think about it after awhile, but the unboxing was a downer.
Alright, now I'm checking for a Steinhart. Thanks Jody. 😼
Great video Jody keep up the good work
I used to own this watch. Nice watch for sure. Worth the money. A little too much blue on the dial so i moved it along.
Had one of these years ago, was a pretty nice watch
No deployment clasp on the bracelet?
I've always wanted one of those, beautiful!
What site did you buy it from? Thanks!
That’s a great looking Steinhart! Just out of curiosity Jody, how many watches do you have in your own private collection?
Needs to be a little thinner with more lug downturn, a little shorter end to end and just bulk up the clasp with a dual push button release feature.
I had my ocean one ceramic since 2015 and its still just as brilliant
I own this watch and love it. In addition to being toolishly-handsome, it is very smooth to the touch which makes it a pleasure to wear. Believe it or not, I sometimes wear it to sleep at night, it's that comfortable and pleasant on wrist.
I wish more companies would use higher grades of Titanium; higher grades are more resistant to scratches and can hold a bit of polish if so desired. But low grade Ti is a cost cutting measure as it is less expensive to machine. While out of the price range for the budget minded Sel Instruments produces an epic tool watch via grade 5 Ti.
Gotta love a lumed bezel. I have 2 Steinharts and regard them very highy.
That is a beautiful timepiece.
Love your reviews, hope you do one for Stuhrling soon!
