I don't understand why people think it's a bad thing a watch looks like a Rolex Submariner. I wouldn't mind if my girlfriend looked like a supermodel, even if she wasn't actually one.

Thanks for the thorough review. My thing is that it is difficult to justify spending 20 times more on the rolex when it isn't 20 times better. Rolex does not own that design nor were they the first brand to have this design. To each his own, people should buy what they enjoy.

Thanks for watching and for the comments. With Rolex you are paying, in part, for the brand name. It's still a really high quality watch, but obviously there's a point of diminishing returns on what you get for the the price.

@@bobaker3456 The fuck are you on about. He wasn't claiming to be rich nor was he saying he had a Rolex. He was saying he can't justify spending the money on a Rolex. Which most people can't. Rolex is mostly brand name and exclusivity. Of course they're better in fit in finish, but not proportionality to the price. A Rolex isn't "the watch". Its just "a watch".

Great review, well done. I got the vintage red mk1, 2013 model, that is a stunner, and it gains half a sec pr. day. Im a member of 5-7 different Steinhart groups, and the CEO, meaning Gunter Steinhart often swing by these groups to say hello, not many in the clock world do that, so the brand also has a great community behind it, and....theres never any fighting like in several other groups, these people love their brand, no doubt. For me, Steinhart is a great watch, and they do keep their price good second hand.

A very informative video…I wear a Rolex Date Just two tone
black face with batons as a daily wearer for 15 years and was looking for
something as a daily casual off work watch…as a result of yours and other reviews
of the Steinhart 42, I purchased one and agree that it is a very well made
watch and have no qualms about the homage aspect…there a ton of them out there

Very nice review. I agree with your opinions on the watch. It’s great for its price point. It’s not claiming to be a $5,000 watch and it doesn’t stand up to that quality. My honest opinion on homage watches is that they have a place in the watch world. I’ve also found that the majority of people who can’t stand homages or people that wear them, are the ones that buy watches because they want to be recognized in a class group for being able to afford the watch more than anything else. People buy and appreciate things for different reasons.

    Nice review. Thank you!
It's interesting how Steinhart can afford to have the same attitude as Rolex, that is not bothering to send review samples. It means they have established their brand so firmly that they can afford ignoring youtube reviews because youtube reviewers cannot afford ignoring them - just as Rolex. I'd say that's taking the "homage strategy" to the next level 😏

This is a great watch on Its own merit , from build quality, precision timekeeping and toughness. Although rolex is tougher its really tough psychologically to beat and risk these pieces due to there value and high collectibility. For this reason I think Steinhart makes some real sense.

Steinhart was my gateway watch when I was new to watches and knowing I really wanted Rolex. I bought the Steinhart Ocean One in 2008 and wore it proudly for a couple years before I became obsessed with all things watches. I think I paid about $400 and for it and finally sold it last year for about $280 after it had been sitting in a drawer for a few years. Of course now I have my Rolex, Tudor, Omega's, and so many vintage pieces. But it was a great first buy. In fact I bought another Steinhart last year. The Vintage GMT with acrylic crystal. A great homage to the Rolex Exp. II Steve McQueen. I understand some people views about homage watches but it was a way to see and understand what I wanted in a diver first before taking the bigger plunge for more expensive watches. If you are debating going for a Steinhart I would say go for it. Wear it, enjoy it, and down the road you can sell it if you are looking to upgrade.

Watches like this make excellent starter watches and give people the opportunity to "try before you buy". For a small investment, like you have done, you can get to know a style and/or size of a watch before diving off the deep end and investing a ton of cash. Thanks for watching and for the comments.

Great review! My green 39mm Ocean 1 is in the mail from Germany. I'm getting it NOT because it looks like a Sub, but because I want a Swiss dive watch with a green bezel that isn't priced like a Rolex. The other option I could find was a green Oris, but its 44mm case is too big for me.

Thanks for the video. My personal view of homage watches in general (not fakes or copies, just homages) is that they are very much like a shelby cobra kit car. I will most likely never be in a position to genuinely afford a seven figure car, but I still love the style and the way it sounds. But a $30,000 kit car is a pretty good substitute at a much more attainable price point. I love subs not for the prestige of owning one, but because I think they are the most pleasing design for a diver. I can't really justify a $7000+ dive watch, but $500 for a pretty good substitute is palatable. As long as you're not pretending to be something you're not, it's perfectly fine.

    • @JustBlueFish
      @JustBlueFish  5 років тому +1

You rotate the zero marker of the bezel to where the minute hand is pointing. As time passes the minutes hand will point to a graduation on the bezel, indicating how many minutes has elapsed- up to a maximum of 60 minutes.

The fact that the cyclops does not match the 2,5x of the Rolex is made on purpose to avoid faking possible. Steinhart pays attention to Rolex patents (they have agreements on that), making approved and legal homages.

Great video. My thought.. is it a Rolex substitute..no...but as an entry level very fine quality timepiece no question. I bought the ocean one green similar to the one reviewed. A little too big for me as I’m used to
    36. I sold it about two months later for their 39mm and it’s perfect for me. Same fine quality . It’s my everyday watch and to the gym and pool. Had my 39 about 6 months keeps excellent time. Would also heartily recommend. Bezel is stiff but not a problem. I don’t baby this watch so it does have a few scratches. But as a daily watch it has never failed me. I hated when Rolex went to the "maxi-case" and the lugs no longer tapered down and sort of blended with the bracelet, so I never replaced my old Sub with a new one. However...I DID replace it with a Steinhart! The 39mm Ocean One with a ceramic bezel is a much better comparison. And honestly, price be damned, I prefer the Steinhart!

Unlike this "R A" kid who replies to so many of your viewers comments like the obvious child he is, I actually have had the SS/14k Datejust, the SS/18k Datejust, Submariner, GMT Master, and currently own an 18k Day/Date with diamond dial. Most kept decent time, however my GMT and my current Day/Date both kept horrible time. I'll keep my latest Day/Date due to sentimental reasons but rarely wear it due to its ineffective time keeping. I've had it serviced 3 times and it's never been corrected properly. I actually did a lot of research on the Steinhart Ocean 1 and ordered one from Germany two days ago before seeing your video. For the price, I think it's at the limit of what I'm prepared to pay/save for an homage watch. Though it won't be my priority.
Right now I'm saving for 2 solar quarts, a Citizen AT 4010-50E which is actually cheaper than the Steinhart. And even longer down the road is a Casio Oceanus OCW-G110T-1AJF. I think I have enough automatics, and I'd like to have some really accurate time pieces that mechanical automatics can only dream of. 🙂

Great thorough review. I agree... it’s obviously an homage but that’s the case with so many brands. Tudor, Seiko, Longines, Hauer and even Omega have all made diver utilitarian watches that resemble the Subs and the GMT’s. Yet they also have their own personality. Now this Steinhart probably walks the line of a flat out copy, but it’s not why I would call a “ fake Rolex “ . It is a legitimate Swiss brand with quality components . It uses the same movements that other brands like many of the Swatch group brands. Also when u navigate through their website, it’s only the GMT and the Sub that they get inspiration from, as their other offerings are their own.

I don't have any problem with homages simply because I can't justify a Rolex or a Tudor just yet :) I'm kind of new to watch collecting, so I'm not sure if it's a bit of elitism to hate on an homage. In the end of the day, I think if you have a Rolex that's amazing, but that has nothing to do with someone that doesn't have one but wants to buy something that looks similar for less money. That will likely be my first one. I think they're sharp. Seiko makes a nice one, but I think the Steinhart is "cleaner", for want of a better word.

For the money I would like a ceramic bezel insert and a 40 mil case. It's beautiful, has an interesting mvt and seems well made don't get me wrong but in all honesty not much to write home about in my opinion.

I am going to add a Good Milled butterfly clap to mine. And you can buy bezels straight and bracelets etc etc. from stienhart. With the STEINHART VTG RED MODEL I think the bezel with the Red Triangle pip will look great and contrast with the red lettering on the dial

Would indeed prefer a 39 mil case, but the U shaped Steinhart end-link helps it fit small wrists better than the T shaped Rolex one.

JustBlueFish Watch Reviews I’m selling my oris aquis date on eBay. Have had it for a year and a half. It’s beautiful and such quality but never felt comfortable on my wrist. I had the steinhart black ceramic ocean one and it was very comfortable. Going to pull the trigger on the green. Thanks for the info

Thank you for the video. I’m looking for a dive watch and came across Steinhart’s watches. They look great but the 50mm lug to lug makes me hesitate. I tried on an Orient Mako iii which is 41.5mm and 46mm lug to lug. Those dimensions are perfect for me. It would have been to see it on your wrist.

After researching the steinhardt. For the amount of times I heard homage it reminds me of the scene in pearl harbor when the two younger pilots get in trouble so ben affleck's character says they were doing it in homage to Doolittle.

    I have 2 Steinharts🎉
    Both eta 2824-2
    Flieger 44 mm B Type
    Ocean forty-four ceramic diver
    One is 8 sec acurate
    One is 12 sec
Love them both. Bought them second hand. Both older than 4 or 5 years.
Working perfect and i paid 500 euros for both. Unscratched and with their boxes.
Although i own several vintage poljot, sturmanskie sputnik, casio, seiko 5s, and a panerai
I still love the feel and looks of my steinharts🥰
Unbeatable experience for the paid price.
I will for sure buy steinhart no 3 watch. Maybe a different flieger watch with a transparent back case🥰🍀

Thing is - their prices are for EU, and include 19% tax that US customers do not pay (at least not at checkout), so this particular one is roughly $360, an even better price :) I'm definitely getting one for my next diver, just can't quite make my mind up on which one..

What movement does the Rolex Sub have in it? is it completely 100% their own, designed and assembled by Rolex in house etc , or do they buy in from another movement manufacturer, say ETA and make their own modifications and whatnot. Id really like to know.

    • @JustBlueFish
      @JustBlueFish  6 років тому +1

The current model of the Submariner has a Rolex Calibre 3130 or 3135 (Sub Date), which is a completely inhouse movement.

Thanks VERY much for your prompt reply, your a gentleman! I own the Steinhart, Defaufre & Grovana versions of this Watch and well pleased with all, but, can now appreciate the justification of the cost of a Kosher Rolex given that its all in house, therefore may I "consult" further if you will, I believe Brietling offer a watch to serve the same purpose as the Rolex sub, called the "Super Ocean" what movement does this watch have? same enquiry, bought in and modded or totally in house? thanks for your help so far ! (hint wanting to buy a Brietling) but if its just got a ubiquitous movement I may "backpedal"

"Stiff Bezels"--Do you guys actually use the timer under real-world conditions? I want a bezel that is "stiff" and not easily dislodged. Anyhow, GREAT Bezel shot and video of the action--I like the watch even more now--plus the "non-aggressive", sloping, medium spaced coin edge is another winner both in looks and bezel action--the damned bezel should not be easily moved!

The issues I've always had with Steinharts are: shit lume; mediocre bracelet; horrible, tight action/bezel ... besides that, it's a decent watch. Bezel is much better on Squale's and Glycine's at the same price point, but bracelets and lume on those are mediocre as well...

    • @JustBlueFish

If my dive watch bezel was a little stiff, I would hang my hand in the ocean to lube it with sea water. It would be fine.😇. I have long thought the Ocean One is a great value. Well done Guy.

    • @1SaG
      @1SaG 3 роки тому +1

With salt water, you'll eventually run into trouble doing this.
      1. Salt water is corrosive as hell - just ask any boat owner.
      2. The water will get under the bezel and eventually evaporate. When it does, it'll leave behind the salt, possibly blocking the mechanism.
As with all things metal you're using in/near/on the ocean, you should always rinse them off thoroughly with fresh-water afterwards.

Rolex manufactured over 1 million timepieces on 2021, however, shortage of timepieces on her own boutique and AD.
    What is the reason?
There is huge growth of Rolex order from USX, EuroXX and ChinX.
These places are highly influenced by KOL, yes, by those KOL.
Apparently, overprice for an unlimited version of Rolex ( 1 million manufactured in 2021, there will be over 10 million in the market after10 years) for basic function steel watch.
