Thank you for this video. I had to figure it out myself that a med I was taking was actually causing my A1c to go into diabetic range. Found studies that confirmed my intuition and confronted my doctor as well who also confirmed. Her answer was to weigh the risk. Needless to say, I went off the med, started losing weight immediately and my A1c is getting back to my normal level. Being keto, almost carnivore, for 2 years made me dig deep to figure out the culprit. Knowledge is so powerful! Thank you for sharing yours with us.

You are a hero to me, Dr. Berry. I've cut out processed sugars and changed my grocery shopping almost entirely. I educated myself on hidden sugars and am a hawk on reading labels now. I am eating fresh simple foods that I make and meats with no crazy sugar cravings and eating healthy. (I've lost 47 lbs in 8 months). I FEEL GRRRREAT. I walk but could do better. Hate the cold, rain and hills in my area. So I pick flat places to walk and on bad weather weeks, I go to Lowes and walk the aisles and perimeter for 30 to 40 minutes 2-3x a week. I grew a garden this summer. I lost my husband (a MD) to alzheimers a few years ago. He said things you say. I know he is cheering me on. (I'm 68 and enjoying my family). My dad and his wife moved her mother into their home. She made pasta almost every night. Oddly she lived to be almost 100 years old but my dad had a heart attack after a few years of cardiac events that were never completely explained and a Rx of Toprol. Because they lived in a rural area it took over 20 minutes for the paramedics to arrive. He ended up developing a form of dementia caused by a lack of oxygen called vascular dementia. I tried to tell his wife to feed him a low carb high fat diet but she didn’t listen. She ended up having to put him in a home and they fed him the carbiest crap I’ve ever seen. He died a terrible death that maybe didn’t have to happen.

I'm Italian and all the grandparents lived to be in their nineties. I believe alot has to do with GMO wheat. Interestingly enough, in Europe where GMO is illegal they do not have the same issue with their pasta, people from the US go there on vacation and say they eat alot of pasta and don't have the same issues as they do here. Ukraine is the bread basket of Europe and after the war, Monsanto has the contract to grow there; it will force the people of Europe to eat GMO and I predict they will become sick just like here in the states.

Why ?? It's all about the money and in many cases the Drs are there to support big pharma by way of recommending their drugs for you to take. It's the same game of treating problems and not a pathway to cure the underlying. Some Drs believe what they are doing. Many believe you can't cure your problem with a nutritional support.
The answer is take things into your hands. A few exceptions would be how far along you may be with a disease. They might be able to keep you alive longer if you are too far gone . Just my opinion.

This was a HUGE wake-up call for me so I started Keto. Within a few weeks I changed to an *almost* Carnivore diet, only eating avocado & olives with no other veggies. Yesterday I went to my PCP for a 3 month check up & my A1C is 6.7 in just 12 weeks! I'm ecstatic and my doctor is very pleased. He asked what I was doing so I told him KETO (cause I didn't think he'd agree with a Carnivore diet). He said to continue what I'm doing for as long as I feel I need to. I'm a life-long Keto/Carnivore/Ketoivore now!
Also, a few months ago, he had prescribed 2 Glipizide daily but I didn't take but 1 Glipizide daily. I told him I 'forgot' (which was true) to take the 2nd Glipizide. He asked how many days I forgot to take it - I told him "all of them". He said I was doing so well I could only take 1 a day. Now I'm thinking I'm only going to take one every other day... My total CHL is 295 as of last week. Yesterday, my doctor once again highly recommended that I take a statin. No thanks.
He disregardegood the better indicative ratios that are not on the lab report that I mentioned where my numbers are good.
My AC1 and fasting glucose are in the low IR range though.
He did prescribed a thyroid hormone which I did picked up but after reading the "fine print"..... don't think I'll take that either.

Your videos have opened my eyes after ending up in the hospital over blood sugar problems. I ended up with ketoacidosis and a blood sugar level of 800+. I also have renal failure and pancreatitis. Then I was getting sick and aspirated ending up with pneumonia and respiratory failure. I spent 12 days in the ICU bed ridden, 8 of which I was heavily sedated. When I got out of the ICU I could stand or walk and need assistance with most things. After 25 day, I was released from a rehab hospital maybe at 60%, but I was kind depressed about my diabetes and feeling a bit hopeless as I was still have sugar levels in the 200s and was having my insulin raised. I found your video and did research and have hope that I can use diet to change things. I been eating lower amounts of carbs for a week and have had to bring my insulin amount down to keep my blood sugar from dropping to low. Thank you for opening my eyes.

Something interesting is going on with my heart, I water fast 3 consecutive days every week, I started doing this since Nov. 22nd of last year.
I've lost 52 total lbs since last week's scale in.
That's great news for my over all health. But I've also noticed a dramatic drop in my resting heart rate. Normally or should I say, 'When I was fatter' it hovered around 78 bpm to 88 bpm resting. Now it's hovering around 58 bpm to 68 bpm.

I remember during the 1990s there was a great deal of controversy/upheaval in reference to Prozac. One of the possible side-effects of Prozac is rapid initial weight loss, because it (Prozac) can suppress the appetite. Physicians prescribed Prozac to people (mostly women) who wanted to get that rapid weight loss effect, but who did not ‘need’ to use a neuroleptic drug. This practice resulted in psychiatric side-effects including homicidal and suicidal ideation in many people, because they were prescribed, and used, a neuroleptic drug which their physician should NOT have prescribed.
Plus, the appetite returns to normal, and you ‘gain back’ whatever weight you might have lost.

My understanding is that it will lower it, I do know my A1c dropped 2 or 3 points when I started on it at my doctor’s suggestion, so that I was no longer in pre-diabetic range. Befeore I started my healthy Ketogenic diet and One Meal A Day intermittent fasting, i was 230 lbs, pre-diabetic and having hundreds of PVCs a day. I had a normal echocardiogram, normal stress test. My cardiologist prescribed Metoprolol 100mg to control my PVCs. But, the Metoprolol did not control my PVCs at all, i kept having hundreds of PVCs a day. Then i started the healthy Ketogenic diet and One Meal A Day Intermittent fasting on 6/2022 and 20 months later I dropped to 140 lbs, reversed my hypertension, reversed my stage 3 kidney disease, lost my central obesity, reversed my pre-diabetes, my A1C dropped to 4.8 and my fasting glucose dropped to 72, my
triglycerides dropped like a rock, my HDL skyrocketed but most of all, ALL MY PVCs DISAPPEARED. Not one PVC a day. I also eat one Florida Avocado a day. I believe the daily Avocado helped me treat my PVCs due to its Potassium content. Since i have no PVCs any longer over a year, and since you say Metoprolol causes insulin resistance, i will request that my cardiologist to take me off the Metoprolol 100mg. I have absolutely no need for it. Also i no longer take any medications because of the healthy Ketogenic diet and the One Meal A Day Intermittent Fasting. Thank You for all your valuable information on these subjects. You are the best !!! 😊

Back in 2013ish, I was put on Metformin for PCOS/prediabetes. My doctor moved away, and after some very frustrating experiences trying to find a good doctor that understood the benefits of low carb/keto eating rather than just handing out prescriptions for everything, I ended up taking myself off of all medications and just trying to eat healthier by lowering carbs. For various reasons, I didn’t do so well at being consistently low carb, and often didn’t eat much of anything (under 1200 calories regularly). Fast forward to now…I’ve progressed to Type 2 diabetes, per 10+ A1c when tested last summer via Everlywell. Have a better understanding of proper human diet/keto way of eating, and have begun that a few weeks ago. I’m wondering if it is bad that I’m not taking metformin, and if that would be beneficial to help prevent the diabetes from doing more damage before the change to eating keto has a chance to help heal my body and reverse the diabetes.

I got off all 4 of my hypertension meds after losing 40 lbs on keto but 8 months later my BP began to get very high so I had to go back on 2 of them, the Losartan/HCTZ. My BP is fine but my fasting blood sugar does not get under 100 and ends up staying above 100 all day. This when I've reduced my carbs to the point of almost being carnivore. If I lose more weight & my BP gets very low I will look to wean off it again. But high BP is just too much of a risk now.

I researched this 5/6 years ago when I discovered it and it seems that the liver is responsible for this, although I'm not positive about that. Gave him mineral water in the hospital and overnight his blood sugars were dropping.

With a medication such as zyprexa when used for it's specific labeled use and when other perceived equivalent medication doesn't work as well or has more negative visible side effects, what is the alternative?
My 36 year old son's primary side effect is weight gain but keto does address it when he stays the course. At his age he has lost over 100lbs on keto but gains quickly and derails from keto quickly if he eats carbs.
Also, it seems that the primary drugs used in place of zyprexa, all have weight gain and blood sugar impact with their use and some people cannot be without this type of treatment and zyprexa and invega appear to be among the best drugs with least side effects but invega shares some of the ingredients and negative reactions of rispoerdol.

Xyprexa is probably the worst of the antipsychotics when it comes to weight gain. Has your son tried other. For instance, latuda is often a very effective antipsychotic. It will still increase blood glucose (and insulin), but causes much less weight gain and has less impact on insulin. I am not a doctor, just a long-term patient.

WOW! All of my suspicions confirmed! Twenty years ago I clearly was NOT diabetic, but I lost my medical insurance and had to switch to cheap generic blood pressure control meds: Hydrochlorothiazide and Lisinopril. Within a year I had full blown diabetes two! I was prescribed Metformin and Glipizide for years, and had sleepiness attacks in the afternoons. My diabetes specialist recommended cutting the Glipizide dose in half, and I soon began consistent A1c blood sugar readings BELOW 6.5! In fact, I have to watch out for LOW blood sugar episodes, which have lessened drastically with a much lower dose of my two insulins! LESS INSULIN has produced LOWER BLOOD SUGARS. And significant weight loss! I am thrilled to have you confirm my ideas!.................................elsullo

Please stop taking that. They put me on that as well as methimazole for hyperthyroidism. The medication you named above cause my heart rate to go to a low rate. It caused me not to feel good I didn't have any energy I was so lost and hopeless as soon as I stop taking it I got back to my normal self. Now granted I'm not a hundred percent better I still have thyroid issues. Which is hyperthyroidism. The main thing I did was I'm still taking the methimazole and I'm eating healthier. Other than that I definitely believe we as patients in the healthcare field should not take every medication the doctor prescribes. As soon as you realize it's not making you feel better or your blood work is not getting better stop taking it. Once I found out that a lot of American's die every year from the medications doctors prescribe us or lack of Care on the doctors part and not listening to their patients concerns made me really take my health into my own hands. I'm realizing that the medical profession is just like any other degree you go to school and you learn how to work with insurance companies you learn terminology but you don't actually do the Hands-On work to actually learn what's going on in the human body and how to help human beings.
