I’ve watched this video every spring for 3 years. I have no idea what I’d do without it.
I'm so glad I'm not the only one lmao. this video saves my life yearly
Same here, rewatching for the spring season lol
At least 3 times a year I pull this video back up as a reference and for that I am very grateful for you making this video. Sincerely, a random guy on the internet
This is my second time watching this video. Thanks from a second random guy on the internet.
Me to 🏴
Another random guy that was baffled . Thank you!!
Exactly thank you so much
Thanks Nate now hopefully I can find it in the creek now from when I threw it.
Exactly
I am about to throw mine too. Glad to know I am not the only one with problems with this trimmer.
@@jameslouis1627 the 60v is awesome
Mine is currently looking like a banana because I have hit this thing more than weed eat
FOR REAL!!!!
Such simple instructions. Even the photos in the Dewalt manual are foreign. Thanks for your video. The trimmer has never worked this well.
Nate circumstances beyond my control have me having to do my yard work. I figured how hard can it be? Well this trimmer had me ready to cry cause i couldn't figure out how to reload the string. A great big thank you for taking the time to show me/us how.
LOL! Not at you, but with your plight. I have rheumatoid arthritis and have had a yard man do my mowing and edging for the past 3 years, because I simply could not bend over or stand all that long. Well, he passed away with a heart attack this past week and I ended up having to get a riding lawn mower and a new trimmer. Heck, I just had a whole new front yard of sod lain, so now I have to water twice a day or more often, as well. I got this particular trimmer, as the batteries also work in many of my DeWalt tools. Also, it is light weight and that helps keep my arms from hurting when in use like my old trimmer did. Yup, life's circumstances can change in a heartbeat for all of us. When my yard man passed away, I lost a very good and trusted friend. I'm back to trying to beat the heat and humidity in Texas and get my yardwork done on my own these days. Some days it is easier than others. Glad to have viewed this video as the manual is pretty bad in my opinion.
My grass trimmer sat in my garage for over a year, before I found your tutorial, massive help... thank you
I keep the link to this video as an instruction manual for my trimmer, everyone in my house uses this video lol. Good stuff, and thank you
You don’t have to take the cap off. There’s an arrow on the top of the rotor (between the rotor and the guard). Line that up with one of the holes and slide the string in until there’s an equal amount on each side and then twist the cap until the string is the right length.
I wish my late father-in-law had the benefit of your helpful video. It would’ve saved a lot of cuss words from flowing from his mouth. Thank you!
Thank you so much for this. My dewalt is a DCST920 and a type 4. The type 4 is the important part to look for when getting help because there are various DCST920's out there. After no success watching other videos I realized the head was different and then realized it was a type 4. Your video was right on the mark and your Dewalt was exactly the one I had. Great instructions!
Upgraded my Dewalt 20V DCST920 with an Echo Speed Feed 400 from Home Depot (local, here in Collingwood, ONtario). Easy to switch out directly, no need for all that included washer/spindle/nuts/bolts interface set that’s included. Most happy and grateful. I owe it all to the youtube content experts in this forum. Biggest thanks!
Thank you. That was very helpful. There is always a trick to these things. I think I would have been trying for awhile until I found out about that nail holding the head. Thanks again.
Thanks Nate, I just searched my entire house for the instructions and fortunately found your tutorial for the exact same model I have. The only better thing that can happen now is if you would come and trim for me. Thanks
I watch this video every year when I pull the strummer out 😂😂😂 thanks man
I bought mine about 3 or 4 years ago and struggle to get it restrung. I contacted Dewalt and they suck with this particular weed trimmer. They finally found what I think are the right directions. It says to use 25 feet of string but I can't get mine to turn to wind that string on. I suspect there is gunk in there somewhere but can't find directions to get it apart to clean it. Your directions are great!! My weed eater isn't.
I had a mess and decided to see if anyone had a UA-cam video. Thank you so much as it took me just a few minutes after I watched you do it.
Thanks! I tried spooling it two times before I went back to watch a video. I’m glad I came yours. Now I have a nail in my box for a tool. Lol. It worked great.
I use to use DeWalt trimmer line before and the trimmer line cuts great
For the last 18 months I've not let the lawn crew edge or use a weed eater in my back yard. ua-cam.com/users/postUgkx_rBCFuDW1zD6blTGhLkvAkxU657uR_lG I didn't like the fact that they just kept cutting the edge of the lawn further and further from the rock lining the flower beds and leaving bare ground. And the grass was trimmed or scalped several feet around trees, etc. It was a constant battle with them so I told them to just mow and no trimming. I have Zoysia grass so it grows pretty slow. Obviously after a while it could use some trimming. I'm in my 80's so I can't do much of it myself. Finally I decided that if I could find a lightweight battery powered trimmer I might be able to do some light trimming. I decided to buy the LST201 20V trimmer. And it works great for my needs. I have back yard with about 150' of flower beds and several trees to be trimmed. I can lightly trim the whole yard with a single charge! The grass I trimmed was only a few inches high but the trimmer was more powerful than I expected.
Thank you for such an easy tutorial! I was successful at restringing my trimmer for the first time😊
Like the rest of you, I was extremely confused when I first tried to add new line. Confused, then frustrated, then angry lol. But this tutorial was perfect. It is very simple to add new line once you know how. Just takes a couple minutes. Thanks for the video!
I’m an ass, I have to watch these videos every time I need to refill this sucker. Thank you for getting to the point. Mow on!
I’m a dummy when it comes to stuff like this. This video helped!
Had to borrow my sons weedeater and of course ran out of string. Instead of calling him I found your video! Thanks for posting! Got it resolved and finished my yard!!!
Glad I could help!
Thank you, thank you! It took a while, but your video made it possible for the first time!!
Thanks for the kind words, Linda! Thrilled I could help out.
Thanks for the help. Stupid of dewalt not have a video on how to do this.
This may be an "old" video but I want you to know it helped me. I think I got mine restrung in just under 4:20 seconds. Great help, many thanks!
I had this in the garage, but never had the manual. I've had to look at about five different videos to even put the head back on, but have just found how to string this thing! I love the Lithium battery, but hate this spool! Thank You very much!
Thanks this was so helpful! My husband left me a year ago and i am slowly learning to do these types of things myself. Kind of rewarding! Wish he left earlier lol
I ain’t gonna lie you just saved my ass at work
I have a similar DeWALT model and this really helped me out, thank you!
Pretty darn easy after watching your video 3x
Took me 15 mins to change it with confidence I was doing the right thing, thanks!
Maybe it’s because I had a simple gas one that had a removable head for like 15 years since I bought my house but this design seems pretty crappy to me.
At any rate, thank you for your time! It really helped!
Thanks Man. Loaded it up in 3 minutes after watching your video!
I was really dreading replacing the string today. Your video made me feel much less anxious about it 😁 Thank you for sharing this video
Follow this step-by-step and you’ll be up and running in 5 minutes. This was super helpful.
Thanks. Going through a divorce and it's been some time since I've restrung a weed eater. Thanks for the refresher, made it a lot easier.
Who are the people that give it a thumbs down.. this video is short and to the point, and easy to follow.. those people have nothing better to do but be trolls. Thanks for the video.. keep it up..
This is why I love youtube. Thank you man.
Im 28 and I've always been frustrated AF with this and nobody in my life ever wants to teach me anything so thanks for helping. Honestly I don't know what the point of life is it's pretty awful and I'm losing faith that there is even such thing as a god
Great vid , short ,to the point and accurate. I'm working on my neighbors and he lost the manual. Thank you Nate , WELL DONE VERY WELL DONE
Yeah short and you couldn't see half of what he's doing.
Not all hero’s wear capes. Thanks man 👍🏼
Thank you Sir - very clear and easy to understand - was able to do it after watching video with no problem
Thanks for your excellent how-to, I ended up with one of the dreaded 'Type 4's, with undivided spool, and after a season it did get all snarled up and tangled between layers, but I think a lot of that was just old line, I replaced with some genuine new DeWalt black and yellow braided line, nice and relaxed, and followed your instructions... seems to be working perfectly again.
Thanks a ton! I was ready throw this thing in the lake! Kept unspooling on me!
I’m going to have to rewatch this every summer lol
You made that look easy .! Worked just like you said.! Thank You.!
Thanks for that video! I couldn’t get the thing figured out.
Thank you!! I put new string in my trimmer, with you great help. You explained it just right. I was successful. I don't have to wait on my husband.
Thank you so much, Nate! My father was pissed at me because I tried to get more slack and eventually the cord became a tangled mess. Your video was so helpful and informative! My father is not pissed anymore! He and I are thrilled to have watched this and learned how to re-spool our weed whacker! Thanks again !
Your a lifesaver. I was soo doing it all wrong. Thank you for making this video.
MAN!!! That was sooo easy compared to a lot of sites. Thank you very much. Going to follow you for sure
A lot of people are doing this the same as in the video but it's a but extra to do it this way. If you just place the cap back on after putting the string thru the holes then you can just hold the whole cap assembly and spin the base plate to wind the string. That is why everyone is arguing all over the internet about clockwise vs counter-clockwise. BOTH are correct. you can either rotate the head clockwise while using your nail trick or holding the base plate with your other hand or you can hold the removable cap once you snap it in place and spin the base plate counter-clockwise. Holding the cap and spinning the base counter-clockwise is easiest imo since you don't have the string constantly going around while winding it up.
Make a video please look
F.Y.I. The manual that came with mine (DCST922) says to: "Secure the spool cap from moving with one hand. Using your other hand, wind the string on to the spool by rotating the spool grip cover counterclockwise ..."
This is the DCST920 Rev 4 NOT the 922. I have tried both clockwise and counter-clockwise. If you use my method and wind it counterclockwise, IT WILL JAM, So be sure to go clockwise as I did. As Michael mentioned, there are other ways to do this. Thanks for your input!
Thank YOU. Ive had this thing for a year and i didnt know how to so this. Yourea lifesaver
Thank you for making this video. Made re-stringing my DeWalt fast and easy.
You made it simple! Thanks man.👍🏻
Wow awesome I just bought my first dewalt battery grass trimmer and always wondered if changing the string was a pain but your video sure helped thanks alot 👍🏽👍🏽.
Awesome and helpful video! I used the next size up on string, .095 IIRC, and was still able to spool about 10 feet of it with no problem when it came time to feed it out. You may be shorting yourself by several months worth of string.
Smash that like button!!! Thank you so much. Finding anything on this particular trimmer is not easy. Saved me a lot of frustration and money!
Thank you mate, saved me throwing my strimmer in the bin out of frustration! Well done tutorial.
Hey I just finished following your direction on how to restring my weeder and it went perfectly a described thanks for sharing this video.
Thank you. Simple and to the point. Cheers
After watching & re-watching several times, I was able to get it done. The guy at Ace Hardware where we bought it had no clue how to do what you showed us how to. Thanks very much!
Thanks for the nail trick, been trying to figure out how to grow a third hand!!
Great video. Explained perfectly. Worked for me. I was looking at getting a whole new spooky assembly. This video saved me $20
You just made life so easy
That was wonderful. Done and done
Thanks so much for sharing! I was one search away from returning this thing. Was so pissed off trying to figure it out. There are zero DeWalt technique guides available. It was simple once I identified the secret notch. I have a 60v which has worked so far so this was my primary pain point.
This is great 😅. I couldn’t figure it out so got a new spool which didn’t fit. I just followed this and it feeds the line again with the bump. Really helpful, I’d never have figured it out.
Great to hear!
This is the best video I’ve seen!!! Thanks so much! There isn’t a lot of information on this kind of head!!!! Thank you
Thank you. Your video showed me exactly how to re-string my trimmer!
Thanks for the video. Made putting on new line easy as pie. Put some stuff I had laying around from my last trimmer. Force 0.095 line. This things a beast now & hurts if your wearing shorts. Cuts through thick weeds almost like a solid blade. Gotta admit though, factory line lasted a helluva long time. Hope this last even half as long. BTW I spooled on 12 feet.
Thank you for putting this tutorial up for all to learn what could have been a nightmare was easy peasy I’m a hands on visual learner thank you so much
Thanks for the kind words, Cynthia! I am thrilled I could help you out.
After you put the string in put the cap back on and turn it clock wise and the base counter clockwise and the string will wind back up,it’s much easier than using the nail and everything
Thank you so much for this video it was incredibly helpful. I was struggling and getting stressed out trying to figure it our
Your video and instructions were perfect. I am spatially challenged and had to figure out why my trimmer wouldn’t bump. I could never figure out how to get the thing apart until I found this. Thank you!!
What a great video. Thank you! I recently inherited this wonderful product with no manual, In this video is super helpful!
Thanks. You made it so much easier than the owners manual
Big help! Thanks for posting this.
Great video. I am NOT good with these things and you made it very easy. Thank you!
Thanks Man!! I used a small screw driver to hold the unit in place. Worked great!!
I never comment on videos but you just saved me hours of frustration! Thanks for this!!!
thank you for the tutorial! I fight with mine every year to get the trim line installed
You made this 100% easier. Thank you sir!
Thanks. I didn't even realize this was a two string trimmer. Or whatever you want to call it. It only came with string out one hole from DeWalt so I assumed that's how I had to be used
Thanks, Ive always been baffled by how to wind the weedwacker string so it actually comes out and quantum physics
Thanks for the great tip I was pull my hair trying to figure it out thanks again
Very helpful video. Had my string on in no time
First time restringing this bad boy, thanks bud!
Thank you for the share man!! Awesome video
Thanks, first video I watched said counterclockwise and it wouldn’t give me anymore string when I tapped it. Now I know why ... lol
Thank you! You explained so simply.
I put off weed whacking for like 2 weeks because I thought this would be a bitch to do. Thank you so much. Can't believe how easy it was.
Thank you so much for this video. It saved me from a big headache. Thanks for the help.
This is what I needed. Thanks!
Thanks, super clear instructions and helped a ton
Thank you, this was very helpful!
Thanks i got the one with the changeable shafts and just put my husqvarna shaft on because I couldn’t figure it out 🤣
Sounds like it solved the problem hehe. right on.
Thanks! I needed this info!
Thanks man for your help, it made it so easy!
