    Another 8:46 Mins I'll never get back. So you have options. Choosing one takes less time than this video. Choir boy is my personal favorite. The standard collage setup, a wet paper towel and they now sell tip cleaner on Amazon.. so you have that. use the proper solder for the job. use flux and keep your tip clean the entire time your working. dip and clean between joints. Teach yourself to blow over your work while you work. don't inhale. Use exhaust fans. Hot iron is a good start. I let mine sit for at least 10 or 15 minutes before I attempt any work. - That's the 101 stuff I knew before I burnt my self with the iron for the first time. Good luck.

    Wan't to know the real secret here? This is 9 mins 46 seconds that millions of people will never get back. What's not a secret is upon heating your soldering iron, tin the tip immediately at melting point. Use brass tip cleaner to wipe off oxidized junk, now with a clean, hot, tinned tip heat the joint you wish to solder. When it's hot, touch solder to joint. Once the welding is done, clean the tip of any contamination and tin the tip with solder. Wipe, repeat. When you're done, before your iron is cool, leave a blob of solder on the tip. Next time you heat up your iron, just wipe the blob before heating the first joint. Knowledge son.

      @@HelloKittyFanMan Sorry but that's just not true. For one I have a degree as an industrial electrician, and we sure did learn how to solder, and work on electronics on the component level, and although much fewer, there are devices with parts that when at fault can be fixed and do not need the entire device replaced. Add to that it's still a thing that some companies that make circuitry and devices for process control, still supply full circuit plans, and even repair guides, which until the mid 80's many household devices came with! Now even that is not common, and the maker of a tiny black box can bring an assembly line down, and for days even weeks because their makers, also make it so they cannot be easily repaired, come with contracts that you must use their repair/replacement system, or else lose a contract on all devices of their make... so you are at their mercy!
      John deer has so many coded parts in their farming equipment they essentially could disable a thing or two at any time and at will, and make you get in line for service, telling you it will be two weeks, knowing fully well you have a crop that must be harvested within the next few days, or else it may be what puts you out of business, and since John deer used the GPS's and what not to also gather information on who has what fields where for decades already, and on the side just so happened to have started what has now become the largest farm land real-estate firm in the world! You can't even replace some of the most simple and cheap parts because even if they fit, are the very same make and model, they will not work until a "John Deer approved" service tech takes under 5 minutes to put a new part in, AND code it with a click on a phone or notepad, so it will be recognized and work!
      Louis Rossmann, other activists, a few senators and congressmen (Nearly all democrat), and law firms are trying to get stricter right to repair bills and laws passed where companies cannot lock you into their Eco-system, by controlling parts and repair, tethering vital equipment to the company via the internet, software, or info they retain and can use, but you can't use without contract or them serving you your own data, and under terms they can terminate on a whim... must allow for and even make available plans and other servicing info available... Shit they are pulling this shit on hospitals and clinics, with highly specialized and critical medical equipment and many people have already suffered greatly, and some even died over a company "Protecting their patents...".
      Any which way, the guy in this video needs to get a Hakko soldering station! Mine is wicked good, and better than anything Weller has ever made, and they went to shit not a decade ago for being sold to a few morons, who thought they could rely on the name of the brand alone.

    2. Reinsert the tip into the iron.

    4. Flux will clean the tip.
    5. Apply solder.

    Well 😊 the heat of the iron tip should be cleaned with Abit of sandpaper..
    Don't solder on the knife blade u distributing the heat away Fr the wire ..
    Lift the wire up and use the correct gauge solder..
    Should you want the wire attached to the blade rather use a fine torch ..
    Solder seperatally..
    Then heat up slightly hold together and!!
    Wallah UV got a perfect solder joint . .✅😁

    38 year Service Technician here and my 30 Second Tip:
    Most of the Solder you use in the core has Tin/Flux in it for a Purpose of tinning every time you use the Hot iron, You just need to scrape the oxidised iron tip with Grit, or Grit block to allow the Tin and Flux to Stick/Flow, this should not take more then 30 seconds as time is a valuable commodity when doing service or repairs. if you use this above method you just playing around too much.

    those blades have a coating of oil to prevent rust, which is why it wouldnt solder to wire. also you need both objects at solder melting temperature to successfully solder them together. easy way to keep soldering iron tip clean is using fine steel wool, whilst it's heating up. for difficult solders (but when surfaces have been properly prepared) use solder with flux.

    • @GausDIY
      @GausDIY  4 місяці тому

      Wow, that's a lot of steps to take! Thanks for sharing the tip with the steel wool, will definitely apply it soon.

    • @Chris-op7yt
      @Chris-op7yt 4 місяці тому

      @@GausDIY : soldering 101: both things clean, especially clean of grease/oil. both things heated up to same temp to melt solder onto. you dont solder by melting solder onto not well heated parts. if this is too much to ask, as it's basic soldering know-how, then maybe you're not cut out for soldering.
      solder with flux is a well known helper. you can probably find other aids to difficult solders but, failing basic soldering procedure is not recommended.

    • @robertjaramillo6346

      @1-Hitter go to the hardware store and buy some flux. It's like 2 or 3 dollars and you find it in the plumbing section with the copper pipes. It comes in a small tub. Get your iron to temperature. Dip tip of hot iron in the flux and then tin the tip with solder. Use a toothpick or cotton swab to apply a small amount of flux to the contact you wish to solder. Then solder as usual and wipe up any excess flux when your done. You'll notice your work will look a million times better. No need to electroplate your tip or any of this extra stuff. Just use flux and make your life easier. You can even buy flux pens that work really well but I think you have to order them because I haven't seen them in the store.

  • @Disciple888
    @Disciple888 4 місяці тому

    You can also just use rubbing alcohol to clean the tip and object soldered. No flux necessary and the solder will flow from one to another.
