Which model Ego did you go with? There is a commercial model and homeowner model of Ego’s string trimmer. Does the Line IQ and powerload work? I’ve read mixed reviews on Line IQ. I like the idea of no bump. I bought a Stihl FS 111 R and can’t use it because the 27.2 head broke the line and wouldn’t release line on bump! It was assembled at Ace Hardware and I bought it assembled.
I have the DeWALT DCST972X1 60V MAX 20v/60v Flex volt battery powered trimmer and it came with a 9AH battery, the battery is bigger than a brick, I can do my whole front and back yard with only using 30% of the battery, and I also changed the line to Max power twisted 0.95 trim line and this thing is so much better than my gas one x10, no gas, no engine noise, no pulling, no mixing oil, no worrying about the carburetor, no filter, no gas lines and no smell, no trip to the gas station, no smoke, no burning 👀👀
Man the run time test was genius, way easier than the electric lawn mower run time test too. Ego is just light years ahead of other lawn care tool companies.
Bad way to test with different battery volt and a.h. and change. If this was a fair test all the battery would be in the same range and the charger too. But this is mix up test and only show how bad he is
@@jasonlyijnen84 Thanks for your feedback Jason! However, virtually none of these weed eaters are packaged the exact way. They all have different Ah and V's. I spent a lot of time trying to figure out the best way to compare these.
@@TheLawnReview easy buy tool only then get battery to match. Or buy extra batteries to match all. Like said before volt is power and a h. Is the tank size. But comparing a 5a.h. to a 12a.h. yes the one would running long but take long to change. So how fair was your test. Maybe you should watch some of projects farm and how he does his test
I just read thru all the comments. Don't let the whiners get you down. You did a GREAT job and it is exactly what I wanted to see. The chicken test was HILARIOUS! You keep doing what you do as I think most prefer your methods.
I own the exact EGO used in this video. It is powerful, basically as powerful as my gas powered trimmer. The one thing that took a while to get used to is the automatic string feed - the unit senses when the string is short and automatically, without the user having to do anything, feeds new string. Its amazing at how well it works but takes a bit to adjust to because the string goes from short to suddenly full length, increasing it length 3 inches or so. Thus, depending on what you are using it for, such as edging, that sudden additional 3 inches of string will initially dig deep and kick up dirt until you adjust the distance. I've learned to anticipate it when the string gets to a certain length. Its a great feature because the string literally never gets tangled but it takes several uses for the operator to adjust to the autofeed. Its a great product and very powerful.
Hey man! Thanks for the comment. Honestly as I've continued to use these tools you're exactly right. It's totally cool when you're using it to reach hard to reach areas but can get you in trouble when using it as an edger. Great feedback!
@@nevermindme8922 All trimmers can be used as edgers including this one. You just have to know how to use it. A dedicated edger is quicker and less work but a trimmer gets the job done in a pinch.
My only issue is that you used the old model Dewalt Flexvolt trimmer DCST970 and not the Flexvolt DCST972. So it's not really a fair comparison to use the older weaker model. The Flexvolt DCST972 has been reviewed plenty within the last couple of years and has been shown as a really strong trimmer but you chose an older model. Why is that?
Hey Trey - you make a good point. My goal here was to find and compare the most popular ones that were all relatively similar. This one was the most popular one sold at Home Depot. I’d love to try that newer one, though. I’ve always been a big Dewalt fan.
I know which one I’m getting! (Ego) Thanks for the in-depth reviews/test/comparisons I love it! Really helps me out since I’m a new home owner and have no clue about any tools or yard maintenance!
Great video, you went further in the testing than I expected. My interpretation of the test results were a little different. Think Milwaukee looked the strongest on straw trimming and the time the m18 lasts is a big win IMO. In my eyes EGO and Milwaukee we pretty equal over all. However considering the only tools and batteries I currently own is Milwaukee and Ryobi means I'd end up having to spend more to get backup batteries if I needed them if I went with the EGO. Ego is cheaper than Milwaukee but Milwaukee also has a bundle with an edging head to give it a little bonus. Anyone who has no Milwaukee tools or batteries already would save a good chunk of money by going with EGO But Ima go with Milwaukee on this. Liked and Subscribed
Thank you. It was honestly close. If you already have Milwaukee batteries then I would definitely stick with Milwaukee. Appreciate you watching and commenting!
@@TheLawnReview I actually bought a second Ego tool as an edger. It came with the removable head, so it can be used with other tools. When I use the trimmer, just as a trimmer, the trimming line last MUCH longer. I can use the same 2.5ah battery on the edger tool, the trimmer and hedge trimmer all on the same day and battery has rarely died doing all three on the same day. I bought the same trimmer with the auto loading trim line and carbon shaft, when it first came out 4-5 years ago. I love it. Definitely worth the $260 spent on string trimmer tool and battery. The other tools I bought at a cheaper price without an included battery. I have 6 Ego tools with only 3 batteries. Two 5ah and one 2.5ah with one high powered charger and 2 regular chargers (only one being used). The 5ah battery is for my lawn mower and chainsaw. I also have a polesaw (10" chainsaw) which works well with either battery. 5ah is more powerful but also heavier to hold and carry and 2.5ah battery goes through 2" branches very easy and is easier to use.
I bought a 40V blower and trimmer pack together 4 years a go plus and am just now putting new line on the trimmer. The GreenWorks customer Service fellow said the GreenWorks is the same machine as Kobalt....
Hey, quick observation of that mic quality here. The quality from 3:37-4:17 was far superior to the voice-over quality. I would consider using that same mic or turning up the mic volume during voice-overs. Great video quality though and content. Thank you!
Thanks Kevin! I noticed that after it was filmed and I think it has majorly decreased the views on this. I fixed it on my newest video with mower comparisons. Can you let me know how the sound is on that one?
Bought the 56V EGO when it first came out...in the years Ive had it, it has been a Beast!! I'm still on the original battery. Its down to 30 minutes of run time, but still works like new....the best trimmer I've ever had.
Picked Milwaukee FTW before watching the video. Turns out my Ego purchases 2 years ago were on point. Loving all of them. Thanks for the entertainment.
My absolute favorite trimmer. I have the t242x... and it's very clear why they stopped making them. They were too good. Starts 1st crank warm, or 2nd crank cold (one choke, one open), EVERY TIME. Most dependable trimmer I've ever had. Most power per pound. Super light, but powerful enough to edge or run any blade attachment. Very little vibration. Spins super fast... most of the time I only run about 1/4-1/3rd throttle.
On the Ego, you used a rapid charger that didn't come with the trimmer. It looks you charged it using a 550 W charger when it comes with a 320 W charger in a kit. Using the kit charger, the charging time will be longer.
thank you for doing this amazing test! I will be going for the Milwaukee, originally I would of defaulted to DeWalt because I have a DeWalt drill that has served me well for years of use. But I'm happy to be purchasing something based off performance rather than brand name. if you guys usually do power tool reviews like this i'll be SUBSCRIBING, this is awesome. Thanks!
That’s our bread and butter! Thank you for the kind words - appreciate you taking the time to comment. Tomorrow we are releasing a video about different types of pressure washers.
Same for me...Thought I would end up with a Dewalt too...getting 2 Milwaukees based on this video...AND...I'm a previous Milwaukee Sales Rep...hahahaha...TRUE.
Calling BS on this review seems like he purposely didn't use the DeWalt DCST972 which is the best according to many other trusted reviewers. He didn't assemble the 6 best battery powered trimmers as he states at 0:23. Something doesn't smell right here...
I have an EGO for 3 years now. Mine has manual loading, not auto. But I am very happy with it. I think I spent around $100 on sale on Amazon, basically got the tool and charger for the cost of the battery. I use it for flip edging, regular trimming, and controlling my neighbors hedge that grows throw the chain link fence. I was a little reluctant going from always using 2 stroke trimmers but I would never go back. It is so nice not to mess with the maintenance issues, just charge it and go. I do store the battery indoors when the weather is cool and for the winter.
Much appreciated. Currently shopping weedeaters for my ten year old son, who is wanting to pick up a few yards next season after practicing this season. Battery really wasn’t on my radar. I run two Stihl 56s, but they’re a little big for his smaller frame. Wanting to keep future uses in mind, so Milwaukee may just be the answer, due to battery compatibility with other Milwaukee applications.
I never really comment on UA-cam videos but THIS ONE was very creative and entertaining!! Best trimmer review I’ve ever seen. The chicken segment was incredible 😂 “Kobalt doesn’t even get a number”
Nice review. After watching your review, and a few more from other youtubers, I just bought the EGO trimmer (the 16 inch version). Seems like the best choice overall. I have Makita XRU13Z 18V LXT, but it is not powerful enough to trim some tall and dense weeds that grow in the far corners of my backyard under the trees, so in your review the winner of the straw cutting contest, which incidentally was EGO, is the kind of trimmer I want to have, to battle those dense weeds. Plus, EGO trimmer now comes with the battery and charger for $224, and in your review of lawn mowers, the EGO mower also is one of the top winners, so if I decide to switch to the electric mower, I may now actually consider EGO, since now I will have both the battery and the charger. I will still be using my Makita for quick and easy trimming, since that trimmer is light and quiet and does a nice job for thin grass, but I am looking forward to unleashing that EGO on my overgrown mean weeds. Thank you!
the ego trimmer is what turned me on to that brand about 4 or 5 years ago and I was so blown away is the brand I go to for everything now. Still using mine with the original 2.5 ah battery with no issues but got bigger batteries now that came with other ego tools I got over the years.
Outstanding test AND video IN EVERY WAY. New subscriber! Thank you. Buying 2 Milwaukees for different locations based MOSTLY on your video here. Milwaukee SHOULD throw money at you. I didn't expect these results OR such an honest test AND video. Thank you.
Random question. What is the difference in shaft diameter in the milwaukee and ego? I want to use the milwaukee packout long tool organizer for my ego; but sounds like nothing bigger than the milwaukee trimmer will fit. Wasn't sure if there was a difference between the two
Best to use the smallest batteries to make the tool easier to maneuver. I would use a 2.5Ah for the EGO and a 2Ah for the Ryobi to keep them light in the hand because these motors arent sagging voltage anyway. Couldnt care less about charge time if you have a few extra batteries for that system by 2024. The EGO is damn smooth, powerful, power load head is nice to have. Gas is a hell no due to the unneccessary extra noise, carb maintenance and mess.
Really trying to convince myself why I would want to change my battery platform from Ryobi to Milwaukee, but you totally showed how the red rocket is superior to the Ryobi mediocre machine. Thanks, quite helpful.
Is there an electric that is made to handle blades for "woody" weeds and such ? I hate messing with string and I hate small carburators. I'mm thinking maybe a 4-in-one combo but one tough unit with blades on would be much simpler and do the jobs I want.
Thanks for making this video! I've had it with my Greenworks 60v line trimmer. The battery and charger are fine and last long enough. It's the bump feed and string reload process that raise my BP. Bump feed simply doesn't work, and that's even with the Greenworks pre-strung replacement spools! String gets worn down to nubs cutting anything near asphalt, wood, or concrete, and it takes me 15 mins to open it up and feed out more, then put the cap back on, which would be easier if I had two extra hands. I also bought Greenworks blower and chainsaw so I could use the same 60v batteries on all. Those work fine, but this bump-feed nonsense is the worst. My old gas trimmer used thick, 10" straight plastic inserts which worked great, but I went electric cordless when that broke down. Why don't any of these cordless trimmer companies have trimmer heads that use those?? Looks like the best solution for me is the Ego trimmer with the auto-load and auto-line feed system. Nice to see how well it performs in all the other categories of your comparison, too! I'll migrate to all Ego tools as my GW tools wear out and need replacing. BTW, you're a naturally witty guy. You should try your hand at standup comedy, or take some comedy writing classes, or read a book or two, and make your videos even funnier. I laughed several times watching this!😆
-- Huh, my experience is the exact opposite with the DeWalt. Soundly first place over all and I went against my buddy's EGO (which the head broke - and it costs as much as the trimmer) the Milwaukee and my own Stihl gas trimmer. Personal experience there. But when Project Farm comes out and says DeWalt is the best, as well as 90 percent of all the other DIY reviewers. Gotta question this. No offense, what you got is what you got. In fact I was so curious, I went ate the last of my pork ribs and went out and broke one in half with the DeWalt.
Interesting about project farm. There’s a difference between specifications and features and actually using the tools and putting them through the same challenges. Maybe Dewalt would be best with other challenges, but I doubt it. I’ve got 10+ electric string trimmers and have tested dozens more. The EGO is the best.
@@TheLawnReview The Dewalt model you used in your testing is an older model 970 and has different specs than their model 972, which is the model that Project Farm tested. User comments online about the 972 as well as other testing sites generally view the 972 as a much better trimmer and is probably why your conclusion was different than others.
My first "real" string trimmer was a Kobalt 80v (kst 2580-06). It had the option to set the string diameter at 14in or 16in. But the weed eater head wasn't the most durable, and Lowe's was always out of stock of replacement heads. My second string trimmer was the Ego 56V (st1510t). It was permanently set at 15in. It had the auto feed head and it honestly impressed me over the Kobalt. I currently have the Ego 56v commercial (stx4500), which has a string diameter of 17.5in. Thing has the power of a bull, and on high is the equivalent power of a 35cc gas weed eater. I got my mom a Kobalt 24v weed eater a while back, but it was the (KST 2224B-03) model. So far, it seems to run perfectly fine for her, but she doesn't put it through the mill or edge with it. However, it does seem to burn through the batteries pretty fast in comparison to my weed eaters, but that's probably because of its high RPM with only a 24v battery.
@@TheLawnReview So far, the Ego Commercial (stx4500). It's incredibly powerful, and very well balanced to hold, especially with a sling. It's also the best one so far (for me) to edge with. I still need to test it with my 10ah battery and see how far it can go on high. Although, I do kind of have to learn how to weed eat all over again, because of it's power and string length. It's also the first weed eater I've ever used that spins counterclockwise. It also has the drawback of being $299 without a battery. A close second however, would have to be the Ego (st1510t). I've used that for almost 2 years now, and I love it.
I do not know if we can use it for comparison, but DeWalt has some attachments you can use. One of those attachments is an edge trimmer. And I suspect that their brush cutter attachment might be kinda rough on chickens. 🙂
I don't use one much, but got fed up with mixing gas/oil and being hard to start next season, so I bought the 80V kobalt, it seems to have the power of the gas, easy to refill line and a fast charger.
I have 1.3 acres consisting of almost every strong weed known to our region. My EGO wipes them out without fail. However, I’ve never carved a chicken so I cannot rate it in that department.
How tall are you? You're bending quite a bit with most of the tools, that's exhausting if working for more than a few mins. Are any of them adjustable for length?
The one thing i am curious about and maybe in your individual reviews you cover this is how heavy they are compared to each other as well as grip balance of that weight. Also i guess attachments that are actually useful. Other than that a solid quick video to compare then all.
Is the Ego the 15" or 16"? Below in comments looks like you said 16". Links still shows the 15". Awesome review, sooo helpful. Will buy the Ego, please advise on model and size. Thanks very much!!
Are you sure you linked to the right EGO trimmer? To me it looks like the one you use has the Line IQ head and the 1511 you linked doesn't seem to have that.
I got the Milwaukee because I already had a ton of batteries from other tools and it was a deal for it, the blower, a 6.0 and 8.0 battery for $400 at Home Depot and it absolutely rips. My brother has a gas husqy and he was hesitant to but admitted the Milwaukee was stronger
On your edging test, it looks like you were nearly resting the DeWalt trimmer head in the grass. I'm guessing you had really short line or something. In any case, that DeWalt trimmer if used normally would have smoked the edging test.
I used the Dewalt trimmer many times outside of the video too. I put the head near the grass because it wasn’t actually cutting it up close so I tried to get SOMETHING. It was weak.
One thing that wasn’t compared, was the weight of each unit. Overall it was a great comparison video. It was definitely helpful with the fact that I’ve decided to upgrade my weed eater / blower combo. I may be biased towards the Milwaukee, since I already run some M18 equipment.
I have a 40v kolbalt trimmer and I like it better than the echo and homelite gas trimmers that it raplaced. Also have 21 inch mower, hedgeclippers, 8 in pole saw, blower and 14 in chainsaw. All work well.
@@TheLawnReview I was just curious because of your review was a bit different from a Project Farm video I saw which some of the same trimmers were reviewed and he had a completely different review of the DeWalt trimmer. I do realize that the reviews can be somewhat subjective but I thought I would ask if you ever saw that video. I believe he reviewed DeWalt as the best.
Great video. Would have been interested in comfort particularly Vibration. Milwaukee you linked was the wrong model. You have the 2825, but linked the 2828 which has the motor on the head.
The 60V Greenworks is part of their "Greenworks Pro" series as well: www.greenworkstools.com/collections/60-volt/products/pro-60v-brushless-string-trimmer-2122802 @@baseballdude8491
I am uncertain about the validity of these tests, as there seems to be a complete lack of discussion regarding the pricing of each model and the additional cost of an extra battery. In this current economic climate, such considerations should be included. Furthermore, I strongly believe that gas-powered equipment should not have been included in these tests, as it is an entirely different entity. However, since you have already included a Stihl gas weed wacker, why not also incorporate a corded weed wacker?
Allow me to provide an example to support my argument. Recently, I had the arduous task of taming a rather sizable lawn that had grown to waist height. It took me a considerable three-plus hours to complete the job. Utilizing my trusty greenworks CORDED 18-inch weed wacker, equipped with a sturdy .95 cord, the task was surprisingly effortless. I must say, it was an awe-inspiring experience. No need for gas, no requirement for oil, no obnoxiously loud gas engine, no bothersome batteries, and no tiresome recharging. Simply plug it in and commence your work. Moreover, the versatility of this tool is remarkable, as the head can be easily interchanged to accommodate different cordage and various other tools.
I have had 2 ego power load string trimmers and both had the power load feature failed. Which is unfortunate since that is kind of the main feature on it.
Great video. I was very surprised to see Milwaukee rise up there as it seems to be a forgotten brand with the battery operated tools. That said, I'm picking a battery powered string trimmer based also on the battery sharing with a new drill driver (did not purchase yet), so Ego is out. Is Milwaukee the winner here?! I would have thought Dewalt or Ryobi...
If you don't have a platform yet I would reconsider your thinking. I am a contractor and you will never see one of us using a 12 amp Milwaukee battery in a drill, circular saw etc.makes the tool way to heavy and bulky.at the same time if you put a four amp battery in the string trimmer the performance drops alot.just my opinion I would go with a separate platform with yard and power tools
@@bretsmith1094 Thank you for the input here! So far, the Milwaukee trimmer has been great. Wish it had a wheel on the top so that when I flip to edge I can rest it and roll on the wheel to have a consistent depth. Anyway, I didn't purchase the drill yet, but I hear what you're saying. At the least, I can share the charger though, even if the batteries have sep. amps?!
Instead of wasting the chicken meat I would have rather seen how well they did with cutting weeds. I need one that is good with cutting both grass and tall weeds. I have been looking at Ego and this made me lean more towards that brand but still wondering about cutting weeds.
Not very fair for the gasser on the time trial IMO. That trimmer has an 11.6 oz tank, or about 1/11th of a gallon capacity. I'm assuming you don't go out and buy 30 cents in gas when you need to weed eat. You probably buy a gallon of it. So you can legit cut that "trip" to the gas station into 11ths (or an average of 2 minutes). Sure it takes 22 minutes to go to the gas station... once every 11 fillups. Every other time it just takes you the time to walk to the garage. I'd have loved to see a Stihl battery trimmer in the mix, however.
In a way that was fair. If you have an extra battery, you can just pick it up and exchange it while you charge the worn down battery. That also takes up almost no time.
@@frommatorav1 Partially. My Ryobi doesn't charge as fast as I use the battery, especially with a push mower, so I have 3 batteries. I have to have 3 batteries because it takes about 2 discharges to charge, if that makes sense. I stick #1 on the charger, and by the time I've used #2 and #3, #1 is charged. But at that point you have to include the cost, which is not small. Ryobi 40v 4 ah batteries are $180, $360 if you have 2 extras.
@@smitty2jones I use the 56V 5ah battery with my Ego push mower. I can almost mow my entire lawn with one battery. I do have one extra battery. I can swap in the original battery to finish the small amount left. Sometimes I do the front or back yard only, then put on the charger and rest 30-45 min for it to charge on the fast charger. I do understand that batteries are expensive. The Ego 5ah batteries go for $200-250 but I bought a Ego chainsaw that came with one because my original was getting noticeably weaker after 5 years. It was around $350 three years ago and it came with a better battery than my original. The original still works but not as good as the newer one.
@@TheLawnReview I appreciate that quick reply. I was just on Amazon and they have a deal where you get a 4 and 2.5 amp batteries. So that 4 would probably run for 90 minutes? Great video. I like it when you give stuff away to people who need it. That is cool for you to do that.
I picked up the 15 inch model. Past 5 years I've used the 80 volt kobalt. Loved it big the 6amp battery was getting heavy. This lighter ego is better so far
What is with the hate on the ryobi? I own the 40v and 18v versions, mega easy to load, lots of power, great run time... i have no idea what could be missing while using it lol. Get some nice trimmer line and youre golden. Thing is a beast. Maybe you forgot to flip it into high mode bro 😂
@TheLawnReview can't hang to do what exactly? You trimmed everything with it very quickly and easily. I've used them in my yard for years and there hasn't been a single second where I felt I was lacking power, if anything I feather the trigger and run it on low. You trying to cut down trees with it or what 🤣
@TheLawnReview maybe you should rewatch your own video, 5:17 for about a minute.. the only actual relevant test you did when you used it as intended. You literally had to sprint with the ego afterwards to beat the ryobis time.
First problem with your test. The mix of battery volt. That is your power(hp). The ah in battery is your tank size. Should have kept them in the same range
I think it was actually good though it’s like walking into a store and you have all these options and wonder which one to buy. They’ve all been compared so questions have been answered.Plus on the occasion you can’t find a knife we know which is more productive carving a chicken 😂
@@TheLawnReview but the mix of battery type and size does not give a real world test. Just you bis test. I know with Milwaukee they have about 8 different battery and 3 different chargers which would change everything. And in you test you say one thing then in the next test say the complete difference. So how can I believe this test was fair.
Not surprised by the results. I thought the the Dewalt would beat the Greenworks though. How does the Milwaukee manage keep up with Ego at only 18v? I prefer the shafted Ego. More balanced and takes the attachments. Great video!
He had the wrong dewalt weed eater. Looked like the 20v version and used a flex volt battery. I have the flex volt weed eater and swapped the head to echo quick feed and is a monster. Also have the edger attachment with gator blade. Also a monster. Check out project farm and you’ll see the weedeater im talking about
I have the Kobalt 40volt, hate it,but it would have been a closer comparison to the other models. Mixing battery size kind of ruins the accuracy of your tests.
I have Ego blower, Trimmer (non multitool), hedger (non multi tool) and Edger….(all purchased when they had “sales” and a 60v greenworks pro mower. I love ego products, but when it came to the mower, it’s just really expensive and too many people want to dump their mowers when the batteries die. I bought the Greenworks for $330 bucks..with battery…and it cuts pretty darn well. Better than an Ego? Probably not, but it’s also half the cost. And if I get the same lifespan out of it than I would with an Ego, it’s a win. I get a s load of leaves and have lots of bushes, so having the “higher end” utility tools make sense… but who knows. Nothing lasts anymore in this throwaway, planned obsolescence world we live in.
I've had my Ego mower for about 8 years now and the original battery still works. When that battery stopped working at full efficiency, I picked up a Chainsaw which had a 5ah battery 3 years ago. It came with a better battery than the original and I use it for the mower and of course the chain saw. It still feels like it's as good as new and I can swap in the original battery to finish up now, instead of waiting for 35-45 min for it to charge.
Most of the videos never throw in the price im using the ryobi and it chews through everything and that with a battery and charger is half the price of the Milwaukee (tool only) and ego is even more for the difference in price its just not worth it (im in canada by the way) loved the video tho
Great video demonstration. I like the chicken for fun and laughs. I'm glad that Kobalt makes a good drill and that I avoided the brand for a weed eater! Yikes! Lol

I just read thru all the comments. Don't let the whiners get you down. You did a GREAT job and it is exactly what I wanted to see. The chicken test was HILARIOUS! You keep doing what you do as I think most prefer your methods.
Thanks for the encouraging words, Danny! Appreciate you watching.
I'm glad to read your confirmation. my local hardware store has one and I'm gonna grab it tomorrow!
Ego sells an edger. The trimmer isn’t designed to be an edger
@@TheLawnReview most popular? You state the 'BEST' at 0:23.
I know which one I’m getting! (Ego) Thanks for the in-depth reviews/test/comparisons I love it! Really helps me out since I’m a new home owner and have no clue about any tools or yard maintenance!
You are the exact reason we created this UA-cam channel and our website: thelawnreview.com/
Anyone who has no Milwaukee tools or batteries already would save a good chunk of money by going with EGO
But Ima go with Milwaukee on this.

Thank you this was great funny and informative.
Thank you! Hope it was helpful! Appreciate you watching both videos
at the 8:15 mark, I'm thinking "this guy's neighbors must love him."
Hahahahah yes let's just call it payback
Hey thanks for all the time you spent on this and equipment analysis. Made my decision a little easier. Keep up the great work! EGO
Thank you!!!
Bought the 56V EGO when it first came out...in the years Ive had it, it has been a Beast!! I'm still on the original battery. Its down to 30 minutes of run time, but still works like new....the best trimmer I've ever had.
Love it - it’s a great one!
Picked Milwaukee FTW before watching the video. Turns out my Ego purchases 2 years ago were on point. Loving all of them. Thanks for the entertainment.
They’re both great
My absolute favorite trimmer.
Man I wish I could grab one of those
On the Ego, you used a rapid charger that didn't come with the trimmer. It looks you charged it using a 550 W charger when it comes with a 320 W charger in a kit. Using the kit charger, the charging time will be longer.
Good catch! You’re a true expert. I’ve got the rapid charger for their mowers
thank you for doing this amazing test!
Love it! And you got a great deal!
Where is the 80 volt 5 ah Kobalt string trimmer?
Greenworks makes Kobalt so it’s in the Greenworks one
Much appreciated. Currently shopping weedeaters for my ten year old son, who is wanting to pick up a few yards next season after practicing this season. Battery really wasn’t on my radar. I run two Stihl 56s, but they’re a little big for his smaller frame. Wanting to keep future uses in mind, so Milwaukee may just be the answer, due to battery compatibility with other Milwaukee applications.
Yep that’s a great way to approach it
I never really comment on UA-cam videos but THIS ONE was very creative and entertaining!! Best trimmer review I’ve ever seen. The chicken segment was incredible 😂 “Kobalt doesn’t even get a number”
🤣🤣 thank you! I try to have fun with it
you have the wrong EGO trimmer linked in the description. In the test you used the 16 inch one with line IQ but your link is for the old 15 inch one.
Thanks! Let me fix it. Appreciate the attention to detail!
Thank you!
EGO is a great battery system all around so you can consider it a good investment towards a mower and blower
I got the makita too but after using a lot time, it gets to hot and won’t work.
the ego trimmer is what turned me on to that brand about 4 or 5 years ago and I was so blown away is the brand I go to for everything now. Still using mine with the original 2.5 ah battery with no issues but got bigger batteries now that came with other ego tools I got over the years.
Glad you like yours! They’ve got some great tools
I want to see how ryobi new edge battery compares to these heavy hitters now.
Oooh I need to check that out
Why didn't you try the Green Machine trimmer
It isn’t one of the most popular. I think that’s a Home Depot brand?
Outstanding test AND video IN EVERY WAY. New subscriber! Thank you. Buying 2 Milwaukees for different locations based MOSTLY on your video here. Milwaukee SHOULD throw money at you. I didn't expect these results OR such an honest test AND video. Thank you.
Wow thank you for the kind words, Jerry! You will be very happy with your purchase.

Random question. What is the difference in shaft diameter in the milwaukee and ego? I want to use the milwaukee packout long tool organizer for my ego; but sounds like nothing bigger than the milwaukee trimmer will fit. Wasn't sure if there was a difference between the two
I'm curious about the performance of the Senix X6 product
I’d love to try it
Best to use the smallest batteries to make the tool easier to maneuver.
Yeah I agree with you. Thanks for watching!
Agreed, I too use the 2ah 40v for my Ryobi trimmer and use the 6ah 40v for my Ryobi mower.
I’ve used ego products. You can’t go wrong with them. Their trimmers self feed and work great. Their blower’s are top notch as well
Amen to that
That was fun to watch! Now I understand the chicken short!
hhaha it makes a tiny bit more sense now.
How do these compare to the 60V Toro?
I’ve been generally underwhelmed with the Toro 60V platform honestly. Looks good but their runtimes are pretty bad honestly
Really trying to convince myself why I would want to change my battery platform from Ryobi to Milwaukee, but you totally showed how the red rocket is superior to the Ryobi mediocre machine. Thanks, quite helpful.
Haha i like the nicknames
This is the best review video I've ever seen!!
Thank you so much!!!
Is there an electric that is made to handle blades for "woody" weeds and such ? I hate messing with string and I hate small carburators. I'mm thinking maybe a 4-in-one combo but one tough unit with blades on would be much simpler and do the jobs I want.
Yeah you can get a brush cutter attachment
I laughed several times watching this!😆
wow - i've had similar experiences with really powerful trimmers that have the weakest, worst string. THat's why we made our own lol!
do the battery powered ones actually cut through a decent size weed or brush?
or are these for the pristine manicured yard?
Probably better for pristine manicured yard. I’d stick with gas for thick brush
Great video! I actually have been using green works for years. I understand they aren’t as good as EGO but for the money I think they are solid.
Yep they’re very comparable and great for the money. Thanks for watching!
Which has been your favorite so far?
@@TheLawnReview
So far, the Ego Commercial (stx4500).
Yes haha it would be great for carving turkeys though
Your science teachers would be proud of you understanding how to set up this sort of comparison.
I don't use one much, but got fed up with mixing gas/oil and being hard to start next season, so I bought the 80V kobalt, it seems to have the power of the gas, easy to refill line and a fast charger.
NIce! I haven't tried that one but I imagine it is similar to the Greenworks once here. Glad you like yours!
I have 1.3 acres consisting of almost every strong weed known to our region. My EGO wipes them out without fail. However, I’ve never carved a chicken so I cannot rate it in that department.
Heck yeah! Glad to hear it. If you’ve never tried it on a chicken then you don’t really know what it can do…
How tall are you? You're bending quite a bit with most of the tools, that's exhausting if working for more than a few mins. Are any of them adjustable for length?
Fab content, very detailed, entertaining and educative, thanks and keep it up
Thanks so much! How did you find our channel?
Great video! Honestly, that chicken was the most helpful (and entertaining) test for me to make a decision😄
Hahaha glad it was helpful! Appreciate you watching.
The one thing i am curious about and maybe in your individual reviews you cover this is how heavy they are compared to each other as well as grip balance of that weight. Also i guess attachments that are actually useful. Other than that a solid quick video to compare then all.
Thanks I’ll need to include that in my future reviews
Is the Ego the 15" or 16"? Below in comments looks like you said 16". Links still shows the 15". Awesome review, sooo helpful. Will buy the Ego, please advise on model and size. Thanks very much!!
Either one is good. Line IQ is good but can also be annoying. The 15 inch base model without line IQ is probably best value
Are you sure you linked to the right EGO trimmer? To me it looks like the one you use has the Line IQ head and the 1511 you linked doesn't seem to have that.
Hmm let me go back and correct it.
Nice to see you back at it! Been a minute since we saw a full review
Thanks, Spaghetti! Appreciate it. Winters are HARD
test of phyiscal use, weight and ease of doing? which is best for seniors?
Probably the EGO since it automatically feeds the string
I got the Milwaukee because I already had a ton of batteries from other tools and it was a deal for it, the blower, a 6.0 and 8.0 battery for $400 at Home Depot and it absolutely rips. My brother has a gas husqy and he was hesitant to but admitted the Milwaukee was stronger
That’s exactly my experience. The Milwaukee tools mean business!
Can any of em use the Blades I got the Greenworks one but don't know if it can use the Brush Blade
It should be able to. I haven’t tried it
On your edging test, it looks like you were nearly resting the DeWalt trimmer head in the grass.
It was weak.
did all the trimmers come stock with .095 string?
I think all but the Dewalt which came with .08 but could hold .095.
One thing that wasn’t compared, was the weight of each unit.
Overall it was a great comparison video. It was definitely helpful with the fact that I’ve decided to upgrade my weed eater / blower combo. I may be biased towards the Milwaukee, since I already run some M18 equipment.
The M18 line for lawn tools is darn near the best in many categories. It’s not just you!
Just bought my ego power load with line iq! Can't wait to use this bad boy!
Let me know how you like it!
Love my Ryobi! It didn't come with a 6ah like you tested with only a 4ah, but I can trim edge and blow my property and still have 2 sometimes 3 bars.
I’ve had good success with Ryobi trimmers and blowers. Not as much the mowers
@@TheLawnReview I haven't tried the mowers, my Honda just won't die so I didn't have an excuse to purchase one.

That’s a great point. I actually don’t think I’ve used a corded weed eater
I have had 2 ego power load string trimmers and both had the power load feature failed. Which is unfortunate since that is kind of the main feature on it.
It wouldn’t be the worst thing since it can use up too much string sometimes
I bought the EGO with the carbon fiber shaft 3 seasons ago. It has been pretty amazing, I would recommend it also!
Awesome - glad you like it
Been using my ego for side jobs a lot the past 7 months, it’s amazing
love to hear that! do you have this model?

Great video. I was very surprised to see Milwaukee rise up there as it seems to be a forgotten brand with the battery operated tools. That said, I'm picking a battery powered string trimmer based also on the battery sharing with a new drill driver (did not purchase yet), so Ego is out. Is Milwaukee the winner here?! I would have thought Dewalt or Ryobi...
Yeah I’d take Milwaukee. I’ve heard mixed things about other Dewalts but this one was bad
At the least, I can share the charger though, even if the batteries have sep. amps?!
Bro you do know kobalt makes a 40v right?? I can do a whole 1/2 acre and its really not hard to restring them...
Yes it isn’t as popular as their 24V. Greenworks is also their manufacturer so you can get a glimpse there
The electicWeed eater battle is for battery operated NOT corded timmers which I typed in to see, where is it?

1:14 “nothing”. So freaking funny!
hahahahah thank you for watching and commenting!
Excellent Review!
Thank you very much! You have any of these?
Instead of wasting the chicken meat I would have rather seen how well they did with cutting weeds. I need one that is good with cutting both grass and tall weeds. I have been looking at Ego and this made me lean more towards that brand but still wondering about cutting weeds.
Wait these are supposed to cut weeds?
@@TheLawnReview Good ones do.
The test with the straw is about the equivalent to large weed cutting. I think the chicken was to add humor mostly.
Thanks I can see your point. Stihls battery trimmers are mostly pretty weak and cheap
I use gas but watched this for fun. Isn’t the Dewalt the one that Project Farm named best for battery trimmers?
Not sure what he did but man I was disappointed by it.
What amp hour battery is in that Ego? That is probably the one I'll get.
This is a 2.5 Ah. It’s pretty slick!
Nice - let me know how you like it!
Haha I don’t think so! It’s not bad but compared to the others it can’t really hang
@TheLawnReview can't hang to do what exactly? You trimmed everything with it very quickly and easily. I've used them in my yard for years and there hasn't been a single second where I felt I was lacking power, if anything I feather the trigger and run it on low. You trying to cut down trees with it or what 🤣
@AlexKunstar it’s not as good as the others. Pretty clear in the video
@TheLawnReview maybe you should rewatch your own video, 5:17 for about a minute.. the only actual relevant test you did when you used it as intended. You literally had to sprint with the ego afterwards to beat the ryobis time.
@AlexKunstar give it up!
Yes! This is exactly why we made it. Thank you!!
The goal was to show the top sellers and most popular, not the most comparable.
@@TheLawnReview but the mix of battery type and size does not give a real world test. Just you bis test. I know with Milwaukee they have about 8 different battery and 3 different chargers which would change everything. And in you test you say one thing then in the next test say the complete difference. So how can I believe this test was fair.
@@shanerogers787 so you watch youtube then go to store to wonder?!?!
Not surprised by the results. I thought the the Dewalt would beat the Greenworks though. How does the Milwaukee manage keep up with Ego at only 18v? I prefer the shafted Ego. More balanced and takes the attachments. Great video!
I think the Milwaukee has a really efficient REDSHIFT systetm or something like that that makes the motor really powerful. Thanks for watching!!
He had the wrong dewalt weed eater. Looked like the 20v version and used a flex volt battery. I have the flex volt weed eater and swapped the head to echo quick feed and is a monster. Also have the edger attachment with gator blade. Also a monster. Check out project farm and you’ll see the weedeater im talking about
@floatingturdgaming nope sorry. 60V
hilarious and helpful. Thanks for buying all those rotisserie chickens.
Thanks for watching!
I have the Kobalt 40volt, hate it,but it would have been a closer comparison to the other models. Mixing battery size kind of ruins the accuracy of your tests.
What would the point be of comparing a bunch of tools with the exact same specifications? The Milwaukee is 18V and is one of the best on here.
So happy I jumped into EGO a few years back. All my tools are EGO.
Glad you like it! They’re a top tier tool line
Greenworks, all in bro.
Do you like it?
What about the husqvarna 525 ilk ?
That one didn’t make the cut unfortunately. It isn’t all that popular and Husqvarna’s got some catching up to do in the electric space.
If I ever need to shred chicken with a string trimmer, I know which to get but my Ryobi 40v string trimmer edges and trims nicely.
Hahaha valid point I suppose. That was just for fun. Glad you like yours
@@TheLawnReview I enjoyed the vid no doubt! 👍
That was surprisingly entertaining 😁👍🏼 Tired of fighting with gas weedeaters and considering trying battery powered
Thanks for watching! Which one will you go with?
You must be using older generation Kobalt. 4 gen works great for new and fixed restringing issue.
Maybe so - not sure which one this is but it was one of the most popular
Yeah that's a great perspective and I agree. Pretty close to just as good but way cheaper.
Does the greenworks have a selfie in head
A what?

Most of the videos never throw in the price im using the ryobi and it chews through everything and that with a battery and charger is half the price of the Milwaukee (tool only) and ego is even more for the difference in price its just not worth it (im in canada by the way) loved the video tho
Thanks!! Yeah Milwaukee stuff can be super expensive.
Great video demonstration.
I like the chicken for fun and laughs. I'm glad that Kobalt makes a good drill and that I avoided the brand for a weed eater! Yikes! Lol
Thanks for watching! Yeah the Kobalt one just felt so .... weak.
Thank you for doing a comparison video. I would have rather seen how they did in real grass, tall weeds etc. Instead of straw and chicken?
Thanks for the feedback
