Bro, they launch AIM120 at me from 40 km. What "over 20 km" are we talking about? Reliable kill distance of R27ER from 5.5km to ground is 25 kms. Beyond that it is pretty dodgeable while still slaving you to the radar lock unlike Fox3...
The aim 120 is still probably the best all around missile, it out ranges everything (except the aim 54), but out ranges everything and out energies everything, it’s easily the best in bvr, but yes it might not be the most maneuverable compared to the r77, mica, derby, etc, but it’s still plenty of maneuverable to hit any target, yes you can’t hit off bore missile shots or super close range shots, but that’s literally what ir missiles are for, there is no difference basically between 35g and 50g if both missiles will hit the target, the aim 120 is best at keeping an arms length between you and the enemy, the aim 120 is still imo the best all around missile in game, and is clearly the best bvr missile in game
@@ododkurzacz6873 yeah, it being heavier allows it to carry more fuel and gives it more inertia in manouvers. But you can only carry 4 of them max and you have to grind Japan for them.

Ehhhhh. The R-77 while having more manuverability gas 18nm compared to the 20nm of an Amraam. Not as good as the Aim-120 for bvr, however still pretty good especially paired with the R-27ET. The Mica imma say is the secind worst one in the game (Aim-54 is the worst missile considering 2 turns and it misses), I've been evading them at 3nm and they have the lowest range. It's basically just a new fox-2 that doesn't go for flares. I think I've only been killed once or twice by it.
Something to note, If you let an aircraft that outranges you launch without returning a missile, you are going to lose that fight pretty much every time if the other player understands bvr. It is always better to climb and get the best range out of your missile and return a missile when the enemy launches at you before going defensive. You win bvr with positioning and situational awareness 99% of the time. By not launching a missile in response and letting your opponent just get closer and closer you essentially let them get better positioning and eventually you’ll be in the MAR, dead. I run down so many players because they just refuse to launch at me with low probability of a hit. I just launch every time they attempt to get nose hot and they eat one eventually.
@@gerkadas I only have stock MiG-29 SMT with 2 R77 and I have to admit he is right. If you side climb there is a high likelyhood you will only be engaged by a single enemy. So letting them off the hook is just inviting them to spam more Fox3 until you've run out of altitude.
@@DzinkyDzink i've spent too much time of my life playing war thunder (over 2k hours in total), and speaking from my personal experience, 90% of all my deaths are caused by a 3d party. and to clarify, I side climb every single battle up to 5km, just below the contrail alt so I'm not seen by the entire enemy team and even then I'm almost never engaged by a single enemy. not for long, at least, since as soon as I start engaging someone (even in BVR) some 3d party appears out of nowhere and all those fancy bvr tactics become irrelevant almost immediately. that's why I stopped playing 13.7 in general. i have American, soviet and Japanese top tiers and none of them are interesting to play. if I want to sling fox-3s in BVR I would rather hop in a tomcat. rn 10.0-11.7 (and some 12.3's but there's few of them) are the best BRs and no one can change my mind.
the MICA isn't a dragy missil in the sens of aerodynamics, it's only that he overcorrect a lot and wobble (gaijin issue, it don't do that IRL) , if he was realistic he should at least be on par with the AIM120A (in game) or even better

NGL I am having some much fun in the south African Gripen with the R-Darters, The Auto Loft at the beginning helps shooting at targets at higher altitudes, while at lower altitudes, its easier on preserving the G manoeuvre but diminishes a chunk of energy.
Been flying the Barak, I just love the F16 FM and how it feels, and can I just say, what a turn around for the Derby/Darter. Going from one of the worst to arguably the best, and if not the best, definitely 2nd best. Them and the AMRAAM are very close performance wise, and though the AMRAAM does have more range, as long as you know how to notch and close the distance a bit, the Derby/Darter are lethal

It says it on the radar, the brackets, if you launch closer to the no escape zone the higher chance of the missile hitting, the derby has an alright range, more range than r77 and mica, but less than the pl12 and aim 120, so anywhere between 10-15 miles should be plenty to hit AT HIGH ALTITUDE, you can launch further but it will have a lower chance of hitting
I’ve found that 10 miles is almost guaranteed for a kill, 5, unless they are pre notching, is guaranteed, and 15 miles are pretty high chance, _IF_ you’re at high altitude. Altitude is a significant factor in the range of the Fox 3s, and the Derby is no different. At altitude, the Derby can and will hit at around 20 miles, but if they notch and go cold and make the missile lead a lot, an AMRAAM wouldn’t even hit that, so a Derby won’t. Kinda depends on if the target is braindead or not. Hope this helped, I myself have been having a blast in the Barak

Its still not in its complete form, it has a bigger radar albiet not the B version but its a 1999 missile so thats a hint. And it still doesnt reach its expected speed which is mach4-5, in tac view it just maintains 2.8m for quite a while but doesnt reach a top speed more than mach3.2

No, you absolutely cannot do it all with the r-77. Play it like a mica, you do not outrange anything OTHER than a Mica but it’s not by a whole lot. Do not climb
R-77 is a sort of short to medium range off bore sight missile… MICA is more capable in that regard but other than that I wouldn’t hope for a kill with the r-77 beyond 15km

You get access to the fastest missiles in the game on top of one of if not the best IRCCM missiles too. TLDR USSR is good. Commit to Mother Russia Uraaaa 🇷🇺🐻

Especially the jets that used to be the meta, are definitely still competitive, they just aren’t curbstomping anymore. Take the Netz for example (unfortunately not now, seeing as it’s IR only at 13.0, and has 60 CMs), up until this update, it was very competitive, even without IRCCM missiles. The Python 3, even now, still has exceptional performance, and I use it to this day.
