Since CAS is such a recurrent problem in War Thunder realistic battles, one of my favorite things to do is act as a dedicated anti-air player. With the Air Defense Anti-Tank System or ADATS, you can engage both aircraft and ground vehicles with success. Though Gaijin have nerfed the ADATS somewhat, it is still a great tool to have on your team. The only issue is that Russia is so dominant at top tier that your NATO teams will often crumble around you, leaving you to fend off hordes of T-80BVMs and T-90s by yourself. I was able to eventually get a nuke with the ADATS, but it was an incredibly close call.

The AGDS would still get shredded by CAS more often than it would shred CAS.

Am in the process of making a replacement to WT because you all are pointless in boycotting the game.
I forced myself to be good in fighters just to spite the cas players, even though I don't even like playing planes. I could have got better with spaa, but planes are funner and a better counter imo.

The only way to beat Russian top tier is to single handedly hold out against the entire team and call in a nuke. Gaijin moment.

@@connoissuer_of_class stop at 7.x. at that point you have some atgm which imo is the last new technology that makes the game better, not worse, and you dont yet have drones spawning above you and destroying your antiair.

Just the front alone is like three angled, spaced NERA plates, the top with the Hedghog armor isn't so much better and the sides are even worse for chemical rounds, there you have ERA, spaced plates, Composite and or Nera plates (depending on the exact location), base armor. And the turret is also covered in spaced plates and Nera plates over the base armor.
Although I don't think the Puma ingame has all off this armor and just compensates this with volumetric, lol :P

As a player who has never reached top tier (yet) , I want to ask, howcome flairs seems not effective in jets or helicopters?
Flares are only effective against infrared-seeking missiles. The ADATS is a laser-beam riding SACLOS missile, meaning it simply goes wherever the gunner directs it to.

most people guide rockets manually against helis. also the way you fly affects flare reliability. like flying toward someone with no afterburner and shooting flares minimises your real heat signature, but you still need to evade the missile to cause it to loose track and pick up a flare. flares work the best pre-emptively.
with chaff its the opposite and flying away or perfectly perpendicular to whatever is locking you will work the best, but much the same it still works best pre-emptively.
Plus some IR missiles have system that can ignore flares, but there aren't a lot of them.

Dunno when you made the video, but planes crash cause gaijin raised people's graphic settings (so you have to reset them) and lot of computers cannot support it, people usually discover it the hard way (happened to me and some friends, we crashed a couple of times because of freeze before realising our graphic settings were on "cinematic mode")
for me it crashed 2x and it said that i need to update my graphic cards. there is no update

Hey Spook, I saw a video not too long ago (cant remember the name), about SPAA. ADATS was in it and they mentioned that if you shoot the missile in third person, it will track the reticle of where youre aiming, not the highest point of your gun. That means that you can shoot down planes from 90 degrees above yourself, but youre not able to radar lock them. It works, tried it myself in few games and got kills.

Hey spookston could you do a video on the CV90-105 some people I know claim that if the BMP2M and the 2S38 get moved up that it should also be moved up claiming the CV90 is broken and overpowered and I say it isn't. So I came to realize this only a couple weeks ago, after playing for so many years. When using the shturm, you can guide the missile in 3rd person practically any where, including straight up(it only has like 60° elevation when using the sight). It's VERY effective.
This also more or less works with the swingfire. Added “benefit” of it being able to automatically launch over cover.
Something I find funny is that russia won't get nerfed. When Germany and Sweden dominated for 1 patch and got slapped with the reload reduction nerf. Now when Russia has been dominating for almost 2 years and still no sign of balance anywhere

That used to me me everyday in war thunder being anti air is just fun lol. But I use pre radar anti air. That’s more fun
A solution for the CAS issue could be like capturable AA points on the map. Put 3-4 per map so its balanced where one team can't easily take all the points and dominate AA. And make it to where the AA point isn't perfect, just makes CAS more difficult.
Or just remove cas from ground RB or even just make it two separate game modes. One for exclusively ground vehicles, one for combined arms. And if the queue times become so unbearable for both gamemodes (which I doubt it will but plenty of people like to throw that argument around), just remove the one that is less popular after a month or two. Then we'll get what the majority wants, might even see a lot of people come back to the game if they get to play ground RB without the chance of being removed by the sky gods. Nobody likes just dying out of nowhere by something that they have no way of countering. Especially with helis that spawn at the start of the match and make it to the enemy spawn with a full load of rockets before anyone has made it to an objective yet.
CAS just makes players want to do badly. If you're not a massive threat to the enemy team, you're less likely to be bombed. If you're not capping objectives, then you're less likely to be bombed. If all you're doing is hiding and playing as safe as possible, you're less likely to be bombed. If you kill someone who has a plane or heli ready, then they could very easily come back to revenge cas you.
Or just make it more expensive (for example a 27K cost like 1200-1500sp and an A7 and other comparable cas planes the same, especially since those things can be very game changing)

With the ADATS you can guide the missile in third person view up to the 85 degrees shown on the stat card bit tricky but allows you to hit targets almost directly above you but I sure wish I could look with the gunner view!

You can 3rd person the adapts missile as the targeting pod can go 90* but not the gunner sights themselves.

Hello, Spookston. Long time watcher first time commenter. As an Italian main i'm always looking forward to new vehicles to help out the Italian war effort. A supposed rumor that is all but confirmed is there'll be a Hungarian sub tree added to Italy like the new Finnish to Sweden. There is quite the controversy on if Hungary should get added to Italy and what rank 5 and above vehicles should get added. What is your opinion on that happening and what rank 5 and up/modern esque vehicles do you think gaijin would add if this came to fruition? Thanks and sorry of the paragraph.
ADATS is fine, the one that is subpar is the M113(ADATS).

Vehicle suggestion: The Strv m/42 DT, because a 3.9 second auto loaded 75mm that has the same pen and more explosive mass than a 76 Sherman seem pretty good at 5.0

hey, have you done a video on the AMX-10RC yet, it's one of my favourite armoured vehicles in general. Plus it has hydraulics and is an amphibious so like, you can teabag then hide in the ocean
Hey Spookston! I have a great idea for vehicle to play that definitely won’t make you suffer. What about the very overpowered and fair and balanced centurion mk 3. That thing does get a stabiliser at 7.3 but it also gets sabot to finish it off which goes up to 285mm of blank range pen and cuts through the Germans very well.
Do a Stug III. That was the tank I played most, and was semi-decent at.

IT-1 can fire on the move and shturm cant. they are both semi automatic.
Khrizantema cant fire on the move and bmp2m can. they are both beam riding.
Its not a matter of convenience but a matter of systems used.
And IT1 having fire on the move is a documented fact and not random chance. go look it up

You should try playing the Tor. It's insane against jets at long range

This AA is so frustrating to play, with only 65 degrees elevation, when the British one has the correct value of 85 degrees. That, and with drone revenge cas happening pretty much every other game, i just don’t even use it anymore

trouble with cas is they can so high up that radar does not even pick them up. Its like gaijjn did add that extra to let air surivive .

It's insane the panzer IVs got down tiered so much. I take a g and an h in my 4.3 line up with the hetzer and they do fine
The panzer H should not be 3.7
Literally anything with chemical as a primary shell can’t penetrate it anywhere but from directly in front
And if you are in front of a Panzer 4 H, he can shoot you literally anywhere and kill you
It’s a mini tiger, as it’s armor, while not that advanced, is extremely good, allowing for bounces from t-34s and M4s, all while having a gun that’s straight up better
Someone once made the point “yeah by the m4 will get a shot off first, so it’s better” but it doesn’t matter cause the Panzer 4 will likely survive, and get the first killing shot, which matters significantly more then the first shot taken
With the T-34’s the issue isn’t as bad, but it’s pretty bad
Because the good 75 is at 3.3-3.7
Any armor meta doesn’t exist, cause the panzer 4 will delete it
80mm just doesn’t matter cause you can shoot it from 500 meters away at 30 degrees and it still goes through and 1 shots cause it’s a filler round
I have the panzer 4 g in my Italian lineup for 4.3, and it does better then the m4a4
It’s even more useful then the base firefly that sits at 4.7
Cause filler with 30-45 mm less pen is infinitely better then solid shot that has no post pen
But German players are bad, so it sits at 3.7, it should be 4.3

@@bornonthebattlefront4883 the panzer IV is good but my panzer IV in my 4.0 swedish line up consistently does worse than my T-34. The panzer IV has a good gun and okayish armor with subpar mobility. It's not an overpowered killing machine

the only reason he got a nuke is because TDs get bonus SP per kill/assist/hit. Good luck getting a nuke with an spaa class that doesn't have anti ground capability.

It’s an anti-aircraft gun, classify it as an anti-aircraft gun. I would say this the same with the flak 88 if it were actually equipped with the anti-aircraft model. It’s not like it’s overpowered or anything here mr 80% win rate.
